Agreed, animals cannot sin, but can be defiled and perhaps interbred with deleterious results.
Revisiting this portion of Scripture is indeed helpful for us to realize how devastating unbridled sin is on our world.
And it serves as graphic reminder of God's viewpoint on it and how thoroughly he judged the world. we are to remember that there is a judgment to come as well as a tribulation. Jesus said that this time will be far more severe than ever before in history, so, as you said, make use of the time we have to speak the gospel to others, pray for them, warn them, help them as best we can, that some may be saved!
This genealogy also shows the lineage of Shem - Peleg at which time the nations were scattered at Babel, or, another theory is this is the time that the one major continent broke apart and began to separate into two hemispheres. Both could have happened at this time. Whether the drift of the continents was slow or rapid, perhaps the answer lies with geologists. I happen to think that it was slow and that facilitated to habitation of all of all areas of the earth. I don't think it was fast and abrupt. The major geological and climatic events of a rapid division would have been noteworthy and I believe it would have been recorded in the Bible.
Upon waking, Noah discovered what had happened. Maybe his wife told him what had happened, or Shem and Japhet.
The text doesn't say. But whatever happened, it was not brushed away as if of no consequence. He pronounced a curse on Ham's son Canaan and blessed Shem and Japheth. Noah was probably sad that he could not place a blessing on all of his sons, but in his own counsel, he felt he needed to give a curse to Ham's son, Canaan. Blessings and curses in the Bible were often given to children when a father was near death. Was this the case for Noah, since Canaan had been born and he would most likely be the youngest grandchild. Was this event at the end of the 350 years Noah lived after the flood?
We don't read anymore about Noah after this chapter. Be sad if this these were some of the last words Ham heard from his father. We don't hear anymore about this family after this chapter except in the Table of Nations in Chapter 10, so perhaps it was near the end of his life. 350 years had past since they came out of the ark after the flood. Noah would have seen many generations come from his sons. He died before Abraham was born, but his legacy of faith was passed down from Shem to Abraham, just like Adam's legacy was passed down to Noah through Seth's lineage. God always keeps a remnant!
There's another story where a king is told, set thine house in order; you're going to die. He repents and lives longer.
Type SET IN ORDER into the search box. It helps us study deeper, God who is a God of order.
Satan is a god of CHAOS. Whatever he finds that is in order, he tears at it until it's in sin and disarray. That is his FRUIT. know all of them. That's how we know he's trying to set our homes, work, friendships, etc, in Chaos. pray and get Church members to agree with us.
Let's be sensitive to order vs chaos. It's a pattern for success or loss. Titus learned that, traveling with Paul: as did the Disciples that traveled with Jesus.
Job had a great life until Chaos showed up on the scene. Job trusted God, despite the mess around him and "friends that Accused him of some secret sin.
Satan was around taking notes and spying on Jobs weak areas. Job sacrificed & made offerings for his partying children. Satan chose to attack Job, through his FAMILY. He wiped out everything Job had, with storms, sores, maybe depression.
Accuser, is another name of Satan. We all need to pay attention to the signs of his presence. Stay in the Bible and READ IT OUT LOUD. Satan doesn't want to hear it. Praise, and sing Jesus Loves Me if that's all you can think of, in the "battle."
When Jesus was facing a battle, He got away from the crowd and Prayed. Always. That's our Example.
When we see CHAOS in our lives, it's evidence that satan is involved. Know who your enemy is. Don't lose your faith and trust in God. Decree "IT IS WRITTEN"+ scripture, as Jesus did.
Go on YouTube, type in Spiritual Warfare sermon: Derek Prince or Charles Capps. Learn how to fight back; in the power of Jesus name, shed blood + Ephesians 6. Demons are invisible, but we see the chaos of their presence. Fight and don't back down. We are the victors, not victims.
And soon Noah became a farmer, just like Adam. We don't know if he was a farmer before the flood, but it was necessary for him too apply what he knew about cultivating plants to provide food for his family. Farming also requires a man to stay put rather that wandering from place to place hunting and gathering.
I find the fact that Noah drank the wine of his vineyards and became drunk pretty insignificant. i don't think it was wrong for him to do this. he may have been celebrating an ample harvest of food from his garden.
However, Ham erred in entering his father's tent without being invited. Each man's tent was his home. It also was his bedroom. The customs of that time were to guard the privacy of the tent because once inside, everything was able to be viewed unless perhaps the tents had divided parts with curtains. If so, then Ham not only entered through the door of the tent, but went to the place where Noah slept. His wife may have been there. They may have had relations and then Noah slept in the nude. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe his wife was also naked in the tent. Nothing wrong with that.
But Ham was wrong to enter the tent and to linger long enough to view what was happening between Noah and his wife or to see Noah naked asleep.
Some commented that perhaps Ham did something to Noah or his wife sexually. That could be a possibility, due to the scriptures people quoted in the Mosaic law. Ham then exited the tent and told his brothers.
Noah didn't lay out his plans for rebuilding a house, etc. He didn't sit down and have a meal. He didn't walk to survey the land. He didn't sit down in dust and sackcloth. He rejoiced in God! He showed God his gratitude. He showed that he was in harmony with God's choice to cause every living land animal to perish, but for those on the ark. He showed that he was going to continue to trust God to provide in a barren, flood ravaged landscape. His faith had prevailed through the long year of being shut up in the ark with the rain pelting the ark and the ark rolling on the waves.
God gave Noah a promise and a commandment.
The promise:
The world will continue in its normal cycling of days, months, years, seasons until the end of this era. God has set the last day. He knows when time is up. We don't decide. That is comforting.
The command:
Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. God knows when the earth will be filled to capacity. We don't decide. We should not be worried when people say that the world is overpopulated. Instead we should be eager to fulfill God's command here in Genesis. God has never rescinded this command. It is a good thing to pray for God to give you a pro-life heart like His. He is exceedingly generous in bringing forth new life in animals and humans. May those who love God also be for life in this anti-life society. Commit to being cooperative with God towards adding children to your family instead of working against him to prevent Him from creating new life in your marriage. Ponder what the world's view is about children, then consider what God's view is concerning this. The world view is opposed to God's view, in my opinion. The world does not advocate following God's command to be fruitful and multiply.
God also gave the animals and Noah and family the same command He gave to Adam and Eve. "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth."
When I was younger-around 18 or 19, I was considering how many children I'd hoped to have. Knowing that God had never rescinded this command, I had to ask myself, "How fruitful am I willing to be in this regard?" I am from a large family of 10 children and I saw how my parents trusted God to provide a way for each new child to be cared for. We were very poor, so this trust in God impressed me. We always had food and a home. My parents sacrificed more than most people of the day so that we would have these basic needs.
So, I remember considering these things and praying, "Lord, give me a pro-life heart like yours, not like the world."
I knew that one look at the world in both animal and human populations that God was exceedingly generous in bringing forth new life. So, I had to expand my thinking and consider having more children than most people my age at that time. A few years later when I married after completing college, my husband and I agreed on this subject and were willing to follow whatever God wanted of us. We ended up having only 3 children,( I had thought we would have had about 6) but I had serious complications with each pregnancy and/or births. We prayed for a year after our third child was born to get a lead from God. His lead was to stop at 3. Deciding to stop at 3 children was one of the saddest days of my life. But I am glad God taught us to be open to as many children as HE wished for us to have, not just what we wanted. It's a challenge to think this way and cooperate with God on this rather than against Him. But I highly recommend it. Pray!

Then God spoke to Noah with a promise. Amazing!
And I also believe that as sin corrupted mankind & his generations, so to were the animals subjected to corruption, yet not to sinful behaviour; not only leading to their death but also for their fierceness in many cases. Fortunately, animals still kill because of feeling threatened or for hunger - unlike some of us who kill them, calling it 'sport'. Indeed, one could even presume that the earthquakes, tsunamis, tidal waves, famines, & the like are all Earth's & its troposphere's responses to the general decay & corruption of civilization. And of course, these are painful, yet vivid reminders to all that there remains a greater judgement from the Creator of all flesh that is yet to come. But we press on unflinchingly & unperturbed, a lot like those in Noah's day. Yet, as did Noah, so must we continue to sound the warning coupling it with the Gospel of Grace.
1st around late August, September, October , is also when many churches do "festivals", community harvest festivals & alternatives to that.
2nd these numbers that are reported years past & today may be the majority of candy sales, Autumn decor, pumpkins. Which do not always consist of celebration of that. Moreover the huge sales of candy shows generosity.
3rd Christmas decor can last many years therefore most do not buy decorations, candy to celebrate Christmas, many celebrate with family, churches, friends without notable sales, potluck dinners aren't leaving a financial footprint.
4th Contrarily those who celebrate 'halloween' buy new costumes, decor etc. to be part of their celebration, disguises, etc. Numbers in sales don't equal people or households or uses.
5th several "Costumes" are actually clothing used for pajamas, winter hats & even jackets have been labelled costumes we have purchased.
6th I actually believe after this year if the churches would stop doing alternative events, it would dissipate. Several years I've witnessed a decline within several communities. With mandates, supply ship lockdowns, GOD may just use this time to eradicate it.
Think about it, if Noah alone was righteous in His generation, would there be anyone standing for God today if the flood had not occurred? Would today have even ever came? Praise the Lord for his mercy! Ps. 19:9 says that the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous. Do we trust Him to judge rightly? Do we believe that he will judge everyone pre and post flood in perfect truth and righteousness? He knows the hearts of everyone and the plans He has for each person. He will judge all of the babies that died in the flood perfectly.
As I read this chapter the most important thing that stood out to me was that Noah lived out his faith by doing ALL that God had told him to do. It must have been hard to endure 500 years in a world so full of evil and violence. Did this make it harder or easier for Noah to stay true to God? Did he set his face like stone in the Lord's direction instead of the world's direction? Did experiencing the reality of living in such a wicked world strengthen his determination to follow God? I think it did. I think He grieved over the wickedness as the Lord did. I think he hated the wickedness like God did. I think he desired that people would repent and turn back to God like the Lord desires. In essence, the Spirit formed in Noah the "mind of Christ"; Christ was formed in him by the Spirit. This, too, is for us. If you ever wondered about what the point of developing godly habits was if we are forgiven for all of our sins in Jesus, think about Noah and the challenges he faced. His faith endured to the end. May that be true of each of us, too.
Isaiah 6:8-10. You are called, dear one.
I'm blessed to know that. I'm feeling my age more. I don't walk in doubt. But It's great to see the younger generation coming on strong.
"They will know us by the love we have for the brethren". 1 John 3:14
I buy those little comic book tracts to give away to the little kids. They'll be around after the candy is gone. I like the one titled, Somebody Loves Me. You can see them all on, Chick Tracts dot com
I drop them everywhere :). Especially outside of goodwill stores where they sell Halloween costumes and fake teeth.
May God enlarge your heart for even more Love.
Peace
Once we have given our life to the Lord with a pure heart God will make his abode with you. John 14;23.
I would say start out reading and studying the word in prayer. Some make the mistake and read the bible as if its an ordinary book, " It is a collection of 66 books that harmonize as one authored by God himself and revealed to us by the Holyspirit that abides in us when converted. Study with faith and patience and often as you can and the Lord will reward you as he pleases.
KEYS: ( Trust in the Lord.)
Here is a few things worth mentioning:
#1. Its not how many times you have read the bible that opens eyes, It's the empty vessel and pure heart that you take to the Lord.
#2. Starting out stay away from studying viewpoints. Often people let a viewpoints shape their theology rather than letting their theology shape their viewpoints.
#3. Get a hold of a good concordance, and perhaps a King James study bible.
#4. Don't spiritualize all the text, And there is nothing wrong with asking questions, test everything in the light of scripture. FELLOWSHIP IS IMPORTANT!
#5. Don't be discouraged by the false teachers, and learn to mark them. ( Mathew 7:15-20. ) They should have the fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22-23.
#6. Start afresh. Scrap all the conceptions you have of the bible or that you have heard and let the Holyspirit guild you.
#7. Let your study be the main source of your revelation.
NOTE:
1 John 2:27. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. Also Read 1 Corinthians 2:10-16.
There is some great teachers on this site that I'm sure will be more than happy to help you as you go on your journey.
God bless.
Either way, these giant offspring were exceedingly wicked and powerful. It is likely they contributed greatly to the acceleration of wickedness on the then earth by the time of Noah. Perhaps this is when mankind began worshipping renowned men or predecessors, making images of them and temples for the idols to "abide".
I don't have any information on the time frame where this intermixing first occurred. Anyone out there with thoughts or info? How long did God hold back from deciding upon judgment? I believe after God told Noah to build the ark and announced the flood, He also said that the years of mankind would be 120 years. I think that speaks to the number of years between Calling Noah and the day the flood began, 120 years (not lifespan).
Some have commented why God destroyed the animals. The text says that ALL flesh had corrupted the ways God had intended for them. So, it seems the natural order of all breathing creatures was corrupted. It doesn't say how, though. God said that the world was filled with violence. It seems that anarchy was prevailing throughout the world. Perhaps governing systems had collapsed, and anarchy filled the void. It took mankind about 1600+ years to get to this point. Not really very long. God was grieved.
So glad God spared Noah and pairs of animals to replenish the earth. He was going to give the earth a new start instead of total destruction. He could have translated Noah and have been done with it. But the Lord had a plan that was too be accomplished no matter what mankind did. In the big scheme of things, the flood was a blessing to the world. The set number of humans had not all been born yet. The world was not filled to the capacity God had pre-determined. And, more importantly, the Redeemer had not come and rule and reign yet. There is an end to this world age. God knows when that will be. We can be assured that His plans will be accomplished because he is all-knowing and all-powerful.
Noah obeyed God.
