Can a person who believes in God, believes in Jesus, believes the bible is true, and goes to church still be considered an atheist? I would love to hear some of your thoughts about who an atheist is before I share my thoughts on the word atheist.

    Ryan,

Very interesting! It does seem as though there's a contradiction there. Definitely one I never caught, not that I look for contradictions because I trust God's word, but I do realize that men can make mistakes. The great thing about it is that when we find something that is in contradiction, the answer can usually be found in scripture. In this case, the one you are sharing, we can figure out which age we should go with, because they can't both be correct, right?

Was he 22 or was he 42?

I'm going with 22, and here's why. If you go to 2 Kings chapter 8 Verse 17, it tells us that Ahaziah's father Joram was 32 years old when he became king. He died 8 years later at the age of 40. Guess who took the throne after Joram died at age 40? His son Ahaziah took the throne according to the bible. I'm not too good at math, but I think I can figure this one out. If king Joram died at age 40 and his son took the throne after his death, he could not have been 42 or he would have been older that his dad, and that don't work unless you're from Arkansas! (Dear Lord, I hope no one from Arakansas is reading this!!!). So I think it is safe to say that his age was 22, not 42.

I chose to answer you because you seem sincere. Someone else listed a whole slew of "contradictions" but never asked for help figuring them out. I'm not too sure what their motive was. But I believe we can find the answer to every supposed contradiction in the bible from the bible itself!

Hell is thought of as being a place. Hell is not a place where the wicked suffer forever. Ezekiel 18:20 KJV - The soul that sinneth, it shall die. Ezekiel 18:32"For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye."

Revelation 20:14 "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Matthew 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell." That hell fire is God's light, taking darkness away forever. Wicked see that light as vengeance - wrath. Hebrews 12:29 "For our God is a consuming fire." James 1:17

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Malachi 4:3 "And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts." No one will see God as the fires of hell, when death is no more. Revelation 20:5 "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. They are the wicked. I am working on reducing that number. The size of the lake of fire depends on the number of lost people and souls. There will be a lake of fire. Fallen angels will be destroyed." Eternal torment, made people to make tormenting laws against people. God says fear not, don't be afraid, and don't worry through people, and in person. Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the LORD God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. The saved will have charity, being prefect, not being offended by what is seen, being peaceful. 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 7, KJV. Giving unto the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house has nothing to do with the giving of money.

    Hi Dianne,

I think I'm agreeing with what you're saying if I'm understanding you correctly. I was "racking my brain" trying to figure out what "Hog good" meant but I figured out that you meant to say (how good) the true God is. You are telling me that "Suicide is not of The Will of the True God," and I agree with you completely on that. But what I am wondering about is if you're telling me that based on something I said in my post? I re-read what I typed and I said "I don't think God satisfaction in a person taking their own life." Were you responding to that? If so, I agree, that doesn't make any sense at all! What it was supposed to say is "I don't think God (takes any) satisfaction in a person taking their own life."

That's what I get for not proofreading before hitting the submit button. I'm such a nerd!

Hi Derek , I am sorry for your obvious distress , I come from a different place to you , when I was very young some of my elders would talk about the good old days ,that they were better simpler kinder times , my Grandparents told me the truth from a very early age , my Grandad volunteered to fight in ww2 , him and his relatives were on the brink of starvation in the north east of England in the 1930's , there was no money no jobs no food or even coal to light a fire , he joined up thinking that he might at least get fed , he almost starved to death in a p.o.w. camp , when he finally got home he wondered where his little sister was ,he was told she had died aged twelve years from a broken heart after her mother died , it was many years before he found out that she had died of an ectopic pregnancy at twelve but it had been hushed up , there weren't ever any good old days , we have always been as horrible as we are now ,it's just that there are more of us now and we all know each others sins as well as we know our own , please don't dispair , imagine if we could see all that God sees every day , it must make for hideous viewing , I've never , even as a child ,had much faith in humanity , my faith is in God and in Jesus ,they alone are good , they love us , me and you and they want us with them for ever , just give your heart and mind and faith to them , they will never ever let you down , please don't let the horrors of this world overwhelm the joy of God's love and mercy and plan for you , where ever you see any beauty or kindness you are seeing God's love in action , you can be an agent of His ,bring a bit of God's love with you where ever you go and let us all wait patiently and excitedly for the return of our Saviour . He is coming !

    Michael,

Revelation 20:8 says that Satan shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. So we're talking millions of people.

And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, meaning the entire earth.

Gog and Magog, we call it May-gog in English, but it is pronounced Mah-gog. Gog is the word that the Jews use for all people who are the enemies of Israel. This is all taken from imagery in Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39. In that picture, the kings of the east will come through the dried up Euphrates River and attack God's people. Magog is the god, or idol of Gog.

S Spencer Sir I never said attack and never intended or implied, satans already lost but perhaps she won't be. This is Spiritual we do not fight against flesh and blood, I will always hive benefit of doubt to the lost. Also this was never anything against gospel or you.

Cherry Here's some items non contradictory if the Bible is not true than around the world every year twice a year celebrate the birth death and resurrection of the Son of the Author of the Book. That many people by sheer logic and reasoning can't be wrong. Also just some stuff about creation, did you know that what a humming bird does in flight is aerodynamically impossible, did you know that on earth nothing is ever lost it just changes in structure organically, did you know that if the sun Got less than a football field closer to the earth we would be toast, did you know that a womens left lower arm bone is curved and stronger than a mans to carry children, did you know that way before columbus discovered the earth was round the Bible calls it a sphere. That's the tip of Gods words Iceberg so to speak. Just some stuff to think about. P.S. One other thing He created man because like any Father he wanted and needed to have something to love.

Hi Ryan ,we read in 2nd Chr ch21 v20 that Jehoram king of Jerusalem was only 40 years old when he died , so Ahaziah could not have been 42 years old when he began to reign , so the narrative in 2nd Kings which states that Ahaziah was 22 years old is very likely correct , it can get a bit confusing as the families of the kings of Israel and Judah did intermarry and pick the same names at times ,this does seem to be a genuine error in translation .

Christs enemies thought they were not born of fornication, being born of fornication. Christ's enemies thought they were of Abrahams seed, not being of Abrahams seed, even when they were the literal seed of Abraham. How they thought made them to be born of fornication, not being of Abrahams seed. Their mind was married to Satan. Fornication has to do with the unseen realm, not the realm that is seen. The church has been blind for a long time. Jesus wanted his enemies to no longer be born of fornication, when he wanted them to be born again. Our financial system will completely transform from what it is, when God's mind comes into the minds of people, making them to be reborn.

    Hi Sister Dianne.

There may be minor error in the text some is because of translation, I can give you an often used verse that's not in the original, But the verse is correct and doesn't change the narrative. The truth is not compromised!! You can discard John 3:16. out the bible and the remaining scripture will cover for it. God message is spread a little hear a little there, line upon line. The Holyspirit have his way of bringing out truth if he had only one word remaining!!! The rocks will cry out. Balaams donkey spoke!! God is not depending Mans faithfulness to do anything!!

Besides we say he Loves us, We say he's all knowing, We're saved by grace through faith and faith comes by hearing the word.

Why would loving God stand by and watch little feeble man derail his Whole program!!

    If so Satan wins.

Every thing I mentioned is being attacked.

We know we wrestle not against flesh and blood but what's behind it. She need to Know that too. We are to take a stand!

Jesus says in Matthew 12:30. He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

You can't be with the Lord and attack hi word by which we gather.

She must turn from such attacks and ask God for forgiveness.

    God bless.

Cherry , if you are counting typos then we are all in big trouble ! Also , as the Bible was written down by many different scribes living at different times , I think it would be very suspicious if there wasn't an occasional inconsistency , if everything matched exactly it would look as if it was contrived , have you ever asked three or four people who work in the same office to give a detailed account of the same day. ? Have you read the four gospels ? The very distinct personalities come through very clearly , my guess is that you have not read any of the Bible but are quoting some one else ,please forgive me if I'm wrong , if you think you have shocked or upset any of us Christians on here I'm sorry to disappoint you , it has taken me 27 years of reading the Bible to get my faith where it is today ,you will have to do better , very much better than that if you want to even put a dent in it . Try reading the whole thing with an open mind and heart . If you need any help with that you can come on here and ask any of us any time and we will help you gladly , that's what Christians try to do .

    Hi Trudy.

As Brother Jesse said I believe a verse to consider is Revelation 19:8.

Garments is often used as an idiom for our righteousness. In Revelation the Lord clothes us with Revelation 3:4-5. Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 3:18. I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

The Lord clothes us with his righteousness.

Our righteousness is as filthy rags

Isaiah 64:6. But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Our effort to cleanse our self apart from Chist is as filthy rags.

    God bless.

    Trudy,

Sounds like the Pastors were combining parts of scripture to make a point that every one will have different rewards, some more than others. Some lights will shine brighter than others. Maybe they were considering lights as clothing.

Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

    God bless,

Cherry P.S. Years ago a world famous russian mathematics professor who happened to be an atheist made it a lifetime commitment to prove the bible was mathematically imperfect. About 5 years in his research work he got born again, he never got through the whole book because its perfection blew His Mind. At least if you want help you at the right source, try looking at the gospels for your answers. God Bless

Hello, looks like you might have copy pasted this list from an atheist website or somewhere. Look up the phrase 'confirmation bias' as every one of these so called contradictions is based on a false assumption leading to a false understanding. People will sometimes end up seeing and believing what they already want to believe rather than what is actually true.

If you want to discuss each one at a time that is welcomed, but I'm sure you're aware that people before have shared false information before. This list is one of those. If you're genuinely interested in what the Bible says you can just read it and post any questions you have here one at a time. But your posting can be viewed as atheist propaganda for people afraid of the God's truth and the real implications it has for their life.
  • Dianne - In Reply - 4 years ago
P.S. Cherry if you have another way out of all the stuff happening around us and a better explnation of who authorized creation, please let me know, not saying I'll believe it we we have with Gods Word and the guarantees are too good.
  • Dianne - In Reply - 4 years ago
S Spencer I will not deny that a post pointing out that the Bible we have supposedly has a ton of error which I and you know is not true. But here's a true story for you, years ago a world famous Russian professor in math and to boot atheist at the time set out to disprove that Gods word was not mathematically perfect. In the middle of his studies he got Born again. It got so deep it blew His 5 senses cork, perhaps she's looking for answers or in a spot in her life where she needs real help and right now its her way of searching. I don't know her heart only God Does.

Since according to you God's word is so compromised. And you took it upon yourself to research this.

Can you give us who trust on Gods word for our Salvation can you give us an ALTERNATIVE? Our souls depend on Gods promise to preserve it!!!
  • Dianne - In Reply - 4 years ago
Wouldn't be incredible to have Gods word as it was given originally when Holy men of God spake, but I'm thankful for what the KJV translators accomplished by Gods Grace was a monumental task and I choose to believe they Got a vast majority correct. God covered it all as He always does. God Bless
