  • Chris - In Reply on Exodus 33:11 - 4 years ago
Hello Tony. I remember your question coming up a few weeks ago, so it remains fresh in my mind.

We know from Exodus 33:18-23, when Moses desired to see God's Glory, the LORD gave him clear instructions as to what would happen; i.e. His Glory (His Goodness) would pass by Moses but his eyes would be shielded from seeing God's Face, "for shall no man see me, and live" (v20).

So, if this is such a clear Truth that was given to Moses, & then we read "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend." (v11), how should we understand it? It seems correct to understand this ("face to face") as a metaphor to describe the closeness that Moses shared with the Almighty, as when a friend shares intimately with his friend. With that in mind, we can almost hear the words & tone of voice that Moses used to speak to God in verses 12-18: one of a special friendship, having liberty to speak from the heart. Just as we today might speak to God from our heart as submissive loving children to our Wise & altogether loving merciful Heavenly Father.

We have many other metaphors used in the Bible: e.g. 1 Thessalonians 2:7 describe Paul's special love for the believers there as a nursing mother feeds, cares & protects her children. Or, Matthew 3:16, showing the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus. Even though some Churches depict the Spirit as a dove (which is heresy: Deuteronomy 4:15-19), we see the Spirit's descent was observed in a special revelation to John, like the slow graceful descending of a dove - no bird involved here at all. So Moses speaking to God 'face to face' is given in similar fashion - a picture of intimacy yet Moses being shielded & withheld from instant death.

    Dear Richard,

What you claim as an 'error' in the Bible was just explained to you- did you read it? You claim you aren't discrediting the Bible but you double down and claim the Bible is in error. The Bible is not in error. Just because you don't understand something in the Bible doesn't mean by default you should just start attacking and discrediting it. If you want to understand something, don't you think asking a question or asking God is a better first step, before spreading your propaganda to others online about how you think the Bible is flawed?

This is a common misunderstanding and the explanation is easily found via online search on a number of different websites if you took a second to research it before posting your attacks. If you're closed off and have already decided what you want to believe, then what is your motive for posting your claims here? Your claim that a mysterious man found a mysterious text that said Joseph was Mary's father does not sound credible and why would that carry more weight than the many Bible verses clearly stating Joseph was the husband. The Bible is already translated accurately. Coming to a Bible site and making false claims about God's Word being in 'error' is beyond inappropriate.

    Wesley's Notes for Judges 6:26-29

    [some editing for space]

6:26 Gideon was NO PRIEST, nor was this the appointed place of sacrifice; but God can dispense with his own institutions, though we may not; and his call gave Gideon sufficient authority.

6:27 Ten men - whereby they were easily induced to assist him. He feared - Not so much, lest he should suffer for it, but he should be prevented from doing it.

6:28 Was offered - Not upon Baal's altar, for which it was designed; but upon an altar erected in contempt of Baal.

6:30 They said - Probably some of the persons employed in it.

6:31 Will ye plead - Why are you so zealous in pleading for that Baal, for the worship whereof you suffer such grievous calamities at this day? It is plain, that Joash had been a worshipper of Baal: but probably he was now convinced by Gideon. He that will plead - He that shall farther plead for such a god as this, deserves to die for his folly and impiety. It is not probable, that this was all which he said for his son: but it is usual in scripture to give only short hints of things which were more largely discoursed. While it is morning - That is, instantly, without delay. Let him plead - As the God of Israel hath often done when any indignity or injury hath been done him. But Baal hath now shewed, that he is neither able to help you, nor himself; and therefore is not worthy to be served any longer. This resolute answer was necessary to stop the torrent of the peoples fury; and it was drawn from him, by the sense of his son's extreme danger; and by the confidence he had, that God would plead his son's cause, and use him for the rescue of his people.

Mishael: the first bullock was for Gideon. God Sanctified Gideon to lead Israel into battle.

He was speaking to God as we would to a friend, Exodus 20 explains that it is impossible to see God's face and live.

the rest of chapter 33 explains what happened in detail.

Exodus 33:9 "And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses."

Exodus 33:11 "And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle."

Exodus 33:18-23 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

You can see the error in the way they said Joseph is the father: not Step-father, not body father.

This is how the Godhead chose to record this in the Bible.

You are skipping over the ANGEL that was sent to both Joseph and Mary; to Announce the Prophesy that was being fulfilled. Again later to warn Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt till Herod died. The Angel also prophesied to Elizabeth.

Consider all the available information before you make assumptions concerning THE HOLY BLOODLINE of Jesus Christ.

Insider the Prophesy way way back in Genesis 3:15. "IT" in that verse is the name of Jesus Christ. Romans 16:20, Hebrews 2:14, 1 John 3:8

The Rock we stand on is Jesus, the Word of God.

The rocks we fall over and hurt ourselves on, are lies or misunderstood truth. Always search the prophesies recorded in the Bible.

If your Bible DOES NOT have 'center of each page' reference columns; get one. (Not side or bottom columns). It points you to those prophetic statements.

  • Righteous Judgment and the Legal Process - In Reply on 1 Timothy 3 - 4 years ago
'PEOPLE', is very large blanket kind of statement. Instead of naming a person, you accuse the entire group. These are just a few of the 5700 scriptures that deal with judgment. Mishael

    John 7:24

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

    2 Peter 2:8

(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds

    2 Thessalonians 1:6

    Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

    Revelation 22:11

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

    John 12:47

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

    Matthew 7:1

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

    1 Corinthians 11:31

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

    Luke 6:37

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

In your prayers, forgive. Then petition the Lord Jesus to be judge between those who offend your conscience and understanding of scripture. Jesus...is our go-to person in such matters.

    Book of Job 1:

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God (evil angels) came to present themselves before the LORD (on His Throne), and Satan came also among them.

7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Comment=they show up when they have someone to accuse. Satan=Accuser

Always take your "legal issue" before the Lords Throne first. He has the best ATTORNEY, JESUS CHRIST.

Regarding Heresies, or things expounded on that do not agree with what is clearly recorded in the Bible. Even a Geneology that is recorded in the written Word of God.

    Read very slowly...

    REVELATION 22

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

    Hello Richard,

Are you claiming that the Bible is wrong simply because you don't currently understand the genealogy?

That seems like quite a logical leap and most Bible readers would disagree with such an assumption. When something isn't understood is it normal to only focus on 1 verse, and disregard what dozens of scriptures consistently say?

The Bible clearly says Joseph became the husband of Mary. That is an undisputed fact as far as I'm concerned and says this in Matthew 1:20, Matthew 1:16, etc.

It sounds like the question is who was Joseph's father? Jacob or Heli? Luke 3:23 or Matthew 1:16.

It's evident that Joseph is Heli's son-in-law. In Jewish culture it is not unusual for the son in law to be referred to simply as the son of his father in law. This custom is used in other scriptures in the Bible too where calling someone a 'son' is an endearing term, especially son-in-law.

Also, the genealogy in Matthew wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list, but a subset. Luke gave the complete genealogy and traced Christ's lineage through Mary, while Matthew traced it through Joseph.

Rather than assuming everything we don't understand is an error and spreading this around like poison, wouldn't it seem prudent to first pray and ask God for wisdom for things you don't understand, research it further and ask open questions, before trying to discredit the Bible in public based on false assumptions. Just like the fake news we see in the media today, the corrections and retractions never get the full coverage as the original falsehoods, so just like here, people likely read your remarks and drew a negative conclusion in their heart based on a false assumption and that is really sad to see this especially on a Bible website where we should be seeking God to understand the truth, not spreading lies.

Brother Richard IN CHRIST, if verse A says one thing and verse B says the OPPOSITE; then one is NOT TRUE, YET both are God's WORD. This is impossible. They have to be judged by other scriptures to come to truth. A literal hell and Christ being saviour of the world don't agree with each other. If the lake of fire is spiritual judgement IN CHRIST; and that judgement eventually brings forth righteousness, then the scriptures don't contradict. Why is it so offensive to Christians that Christ will save everyone. We ALL MURDERED CHRIST; we believe he saves us; yet most want believe he will save Judas. That' s CONTRADICTION and a LIE.

None of these words should be taken out of context that WE LOVE EACH OTHER AS WE LOVE OURSELVES; but for edifying of the brotherhood.

Brother Adam, May CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

You are going to say that God gives us FREE WILL and it's up to us to ACCEPT this FREE gift of salvation and the ones that don't accept it will go to HELL.

    This ALSO contradicts GOD'S word:

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us into the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the GOOD PLEASURE OF HIS WILL (no free will; but God's will).

Ephesians 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fullness of times (ages) he might gather together IN ONE ALL THINGS IN CHRIST (no free will in that scripture)...

Philippians 2:13 For it is God that worketh (no free will) IN YOU both to WILL and DO of HIS GOOD PLEASURE.

    Philippians 2:10 At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaves, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Philippians 2:11 And that ever tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I know the Christians arguments with God's WORD; for years I argued the same way.

    Brother Earl,

I really don't want to go back and fourth about this with you as I know you have your own beliefs.

The one thing that is making me post is this in your comment "therefore the ones that believe this are calling God a LIAR." With all humility and humbleness I beg you please do not write things like this. This is FALSE! I also believe in a "Heaven" and a "hell"(weather gehenna, hades, outer darkness, or the lake of fire).

A place for the wicked that Jesus Christ preached about many times. Telling us to "fear God who can destroy both body and SOUL in gehenna." Matthew 10:28. Also stating in Matthew 25:46 "everlasting (punishment)" The same Greek word used for "eternal (life)".

Also I will bring up what I've read in 1 Enoch. How all shall come before "the Son of Man(Christ)" on His throne and worship Him and beg for His mercy. Though they will nor receive it. Just because all shall worship the Lord one day does not mean all shall be saved. That is up to God alone who shall be saved and receive mercy. God's ways, thoughts, ability, wisdom, is so far beyond us we cannot comprehend.

We are to fear God as is taught in the Old and New Testaments. This is the beginning of wisdom, to depart from evil/sin, serve Him with a pure heart and fervently love Him.

Please my brother. Do not say we who believe in "hell" are calling God a liar as that breaks my heart. I would never say that to any other brother or sister in Christ. Just as you have Scriptures to uphold your "belief" or "interpretation" so we also have Scriptures that plainly say "hell" is a place we don't want to go.

I will end with the most important thing as there will always be different views. May we all focus on the ways of Jesus Christ our Lord following Him to do the Will of our Father in Heaven. With a pure heart producing good fruit in the Spirit loving one another. Putting all our faith and trust in the Lord.

I won't fill the page with verses. This was from the heart.

    God Bless.

Brother Adam, may CHRIST IN US grace us with His wisdom and HIS understanding.

The first verse in Revelation says that the words are SIGNIFIED (they represent something out than what a dictionary defines them).

Christians don't have a problem BELIEVING that the Lamb of God is not a literal lamb, but represents Christ.

Eyes are a flame of fire

    Mouth with two edged sword

    Candlesticks

    The beast

    The living creatures

    The elders

    Scorpions

    Frogs

There are hundreds of words in Revelation that are REPRESENTATIVE of something ELSE. Christians by the thousands are willing to BELIEVE these are symbols; YET when you come to THE LAKE OF FIRE, Christians by the thousands SCREAM IT IS LITERAL.

If it is LITERAL then it contradicts hundreds of out scriptures, but if it too is representative of something ELSE; then it does not contradict these other scriptures.

Brother Adam, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

John 6:38 For I (the word, Christ) am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him (Father) who SENT (the word) me (Christ).

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father has SENT the SON (HIS WORD) to be SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD.

Most Christians DON'T BELIEVE GOD'S WORD.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my (Father's) word (CHRIST) be that goeth forth out of my (Father's) mouth: it (word, CHRIST) shall not return unto me void, but it (word, CHRIST) shall accomplish that which I please, and it (word, CHRIST) shall prosper in the THING (to be saviour of the world) whereto I SENT IT (word, CHRIST).

A literal lake of fire and brimstone that last for ETERNITY make the words above a LIE.

Brother Adam, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Most Christians believe that at the judgement of the world the wicked will be cast into LITERAL FIRE for all ETERNITY.

If this is true then it make those scriptures that say ALL will OBEY and WORSHIP GOD a LIE; therefore the ones that believe this are calling God a LIAR.

Revelation 13:8 And ALL that dwell upon the earth shall WORSHIP HIM, whose names ARE NOT WRITTEN in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 15:4 ....for ALL NATIONS shall come and WORSHIP before THEE ....

Revelation 3:9 ...I WILL MAKE THEM to come and WORSHIP before thy feet.....

Psalms 22:27 ALL the ends of the world shall REMEMBER and TURN (repent) unto the LORD, and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass .....shall ALL flesh come to WORSHIP before me..

You can't have an ETERNAL LITERAL FIRE torturing God's creation and a SAVIOUR of man exist together: be careful which one you chose.

Most believe hell wins: FEW find the way!

Brother Adam, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

I BELIEVE, Christ is the BOOK OF LIFE just as he is the tree of life, the lamb of God, etc. If you are IN CHRIST and CHRIST IN YOU, then at that point you are in the Book of Life and being made ONE IN CHRIST you become a book of life, ALSO.

Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: the SEED is the WORD of GOD.

If you take a SEED and plant it; the part that emerges looks nothing like the SEED that was planted.

But at MATURITY when it is HARVESTED and put in the grain bin; it is EXACTLY like the SEED that was planted. We have the SEED; Christ himself, the WORD planted in us. Now we look nothing like the SEED; but at HARVEST (death of this body) we will be put in the grain bin (Christ body, immortality) and we will be like him; we become SEED to be planted, ALSO.

Matthew 12:37 For by my WORDS (CHRIST) thou shall be justified, and by my WORDS (CHRIST) thou shall be condemned.

If you are IN CHRIST and CHRIST IN YOU; you are being judged NOW.

John 12:48 .... the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him ...

1 Corinthians 11:31 If we would judge ourselves (by the word), we should not be judged.

1 Corinthians 11:31 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

1 Peter 4:17 For the TIME IS COME that judgement must begin at the house of God ...

Hebrews 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we...
