    1Thes. 5:2; 2Pet. 3:10; thief in the night = The personal and timing designations of this expression implies secrecy and un-expectancy. CHRIST's Coming will take the world by surprise. Even CHRIST suggested the world, and often GOD's own people, will have little or no expectancy of HIS Coming (Lu. 18:8). Review CHRIST's parable of the Goodman and the Thief (Lu. 12:39-40).

    At least six times, Scriptures compare CHRIST's Second Coming as "a thief in the night" ( Mt. 24:43; Lu. 12:39; 1Thes. 5:2; 2Pet. 3:10; Rev. 3:3; 16:15). The world will view CHRIST's Coming as a "thief" because thieves:

    + work secretly ( Mt. 24:43),

    + steal that which is not his ( Mt. 6:19),

    + most often work during the cover of night's darkness ( Mt. 27:64),

    + stealthily surprise their victims ( Jn. 12:6), and

    + are prone to resort to violence if/when discovered ( Jn. 10:10).

    The world will apply these same characteristics to CHRIST's Second Coming (the "Day of The LORD"). When CHRIST returns, HE will do so:

    + unannounced and suddenly,

    + taking the lives and possessions of the world from them which they consider their own,

    + during the world's most ignorant period of spiritual darkness,

    + coming as a complete and immediate surprise to the unprepared,

    + with great, indescribable, and unopposed violence.

    Comparing CHRIST's Second Coming to the "thief" also appropriately justifies CHRIST's treatment of the world during that Day. Those who arrested CHRIST did so as they that "come out as against a thief with swords and staves" ( Mt. 26:55; Mk. 14:48; Lu. 22:52). They also crucified CHRIST between two thieves, placing CHRIST as the most notorious of the thieves ( Mt. 27:38; Mk. 15:27).

    If the world treats CHRIST as a thief, CHRIST will rob the world using the same characteristics as a thief.

    (continued) 1Thes. 5:2; 2Pet. 3:10 = Obviously, the expression "in the night" does not confine the "Day of The LORD" to literal darkness of the night season, for half of the earth's globe is always experiencing daylight. The expression, "in the night", describes the general character of the secrecy and un-expectancy in which thieves work.

    Interestingly and thief-like, CHRIST linked the "night" season with many of HIS events:

    + JESUS CHRIST came the first time in birth "by night" unannounced to all except the shepherds (Lu. 2:8-11);

    + "HIS Star" guided the wise men to "the house (not to HIS manger!) where the Young CHILD was" ( Mt. 2:2, 9-10);

    + HIS parents spirited HIM into Egypt "by night" after Joseph's "dream" ( Mt. 2:14);

    + CHRIST often reserved the "night" for prayer (Lu. 6:12).

    + The Jews arrested CHRIST during the darkness of night;

    + "Darkness" overshadowed the crucifixions of CHRIST and the two thieves ( Mt. 27:45; Mk. 15:33; Lu. 23:44); and

    + CHRIST arose from HIS tomb during the darkness of night.

    One small thought on works. If Jesus lifts the burden and carries the weight then it is His work and we are His craftsmanship. However if we carry the burden and Jesus continues to let us carry this burden all by ourselves then we may find ourselves in our own works anew. A Spirit led born again Christian will know the difference.

    Brother Victor, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

    EVERYTHING from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 has HIDDEN in it TRUTH of SPIRIT.

    The Spirit of God wrote these words; therefore, the WORDS ARE SPIRIT.

    MOST only see them as thing that are natural, never growing to maturity in God's word.

    YES, definitely Genesis 1:6-8 has a hidden meaning that is SPIRIT.

    Revelation 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which though sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

    These are waters under heaven.

    Colossians 1:27 ...this mystery, CHRIST IN YOU...

    These are the waters above the heaven.

    1 Corinthians 15:38 But God hath given it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

    1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also celestial bodies (above heaven), and bodies terrestrial (below heaven, earth): but the GLORY of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

    Hebrews 2:4; signs and wonders = The Greek noun (; pronounced "say-MI-on") translated here into "signs" often translates into the noun "miracle" (23 times) in the New Testament. The reader may understand these "signs" as extraordinary events that defy natural laws which indisputably proves the results of supernatural powers.

    The Greek meaning of the word translated here into "wonders" (; pronounced "TER-as") literally means anything or any occurrence that is extremely difficult, or even impossible to explain, other than admitting its existence or occurrence happened supernaturally beyond human power.

    Attempting to distinguish signs from wonders proves difficult at best. In this context, one attempt may explain signs as literal, tangible, physical proofs which the eyes actually see, and realized by the rest of human senses. By distinction, "wonders" wildly stir human imaginative thought processes within the mind as to their interpretive reasons and purposes, especially in the realm of religion.

    Scriptures record the expression "signs and wonders" twenty-nine times (15 times in the Old Testament; 14 times in the New). With few exceptions, the majority of these references link "signs and wonders" directly to GOD as the PERFORMER, or performed indirectly through HIS prophets or apostles whom GOD empowered.

    John 4:21-23. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

    Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

    But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

    There's not a place or day we do this.

    Colossians 2:16-17 (KJV) Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

    Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

    The sabbaths was given to Israel.

    Jesus gave us rest!

    We rest in him.

    If you thriving to "achieve" something by your efforts Isn't that considered works?

    God bless
  • Philip Christian Parks on Hebrews 2:9 - 4 years ago
    Hebrews 2:4; GOD with divers miracles = The adjective "divers" is an obsolete Old English term which means "many", "various", and/or "different" kinds and types of miracles.

    Here, "miracles" translates from the Greek noun root (transliterated "dunamis"; pronounced "DOO-nam-is"), meaning inherent raw strength, ability, and prowess. "Dunamis" derives the English noun "dynamite."

    Dunamis also translates into other terms as well in the KJT New Testament: "power" (77 times), "might or mighty" (17 times), "strength" (7 times), and "miracles(s)" (7 times).

    From the human perspective, Dunamis power is that wielded by a muscularly strong person. The one who possesses and exercises dunamis power potentially does so with all other types of power.

    Relating to GOD, HIS miracles are supernatural, far beyond any human comprehension, much less any explanation from man.
  • Philip Christian Parks on Hebrews 2:9 - 4 years ago
    Hebrews 2:4; gifts of the HOLY GHOST = The Greek meaning of the word (; pronounced ("mer-is- MOS) translated here into "gifts" literally speaks of "The LORD" (v.3) "dividing" the abilities of performing super- natural miracles (or "powers") among HIS prophets and apostles to prove and confirm the truth and legitimacy of the Gospel of Salvation (v.3) and Doctrines of LORD JESUS as HIS CHRIST.

    The dividing of these different Gifts speaks of The HOLY SPIRIT's distribution, not of the actual "Gifts differing according to the Grace that is given to us" ( Rom. 12:6).

    Additionally, in First Corinthians 12:4-6 (cp. 1Cor. 12:11), Paul qualified the "dividing" of these Gifts with the adjectives "diversities" and "differences":

    + "diversities of gifts, but the same SPIRIT" (v.4);

    + "differences of administrations, but the same LORD" (v.5); and

    + "diversities of operations, but it is the same GOD Which worketh all in all" (v.6).

    Brother Deshawn, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

    Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, SAITH GOD, I WILL...

    Is GOD a person? Do you know anything that can speak other than a person? Saith God, I will pour out MY SPIRIT ( John 4:24 God is SPIRIT); is not he saying that he will pour out HIMSELF?

    1 Corinthians 2:16 KNOW YE NOT that ye are the temple of God, and that the SPIRIT OF GOD (God is Spirit) dwells in you....

    Philippians 2:5 Let this mind (God's mind) be in you, which also was in Christ Jesus:

    Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the FORM OF GOD, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

    Psalms 82:6 I (GOD SAITH) have said, ye are gods; and all of you are CHILDREN of the MOST HIGH.

    John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I SAID ye age gods?

    John 10:35 If HE called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (GOD POURED OUT HIMSELF ON YOU), and the scripture cannot be broken.

    S Spencer,

    I don't recall exactly what it was but it says "A new commandment I give unto you, and I'll share with you a technical Greek point. He says "A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another;

    In the Greek text, there is what is called a "HINA clause." In the Greek, where you see the letters ina, pronounced hee-na, that is what is called a purpose clause. He is not saying that is the command. He's saying "I'm giving you a new command (in order) that you love one another!"

    The command hasn't been given yet. The new command will be in Chapter 14 Verse 1. This is why diagramming the sentences from an original language perspective gives you a heads-up on the context of sections. There is no command until Chapter 14 Verse 1. "Love" is not a new command.

    But I'm giving you this new command in order that, purpose clause, that you love one another according as I have loved you, in order that you also love one another.

    In comparison, how did He love them? Well, He showed them the extreme love by washing their feet. He is showing them the love of God by voluntarily laying down His life for them. That is the message and impression that He is leaving for them.

    Hopefully this is what you were looking for? Or maybe it had to do with the command to love the Lord thy God, and to love your neighbor as yourself which in the Greek text is really not a command for us to do?
  • Jesse - In Reply on James 2 - 4 years ago
    S Spencer,

    I agree. A person cannot have the Spirit of Christ living inside them and at the same time have hatred in their heart for a fellow believer.

    If a man says, I love God, and he hates his brother, his Christian brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

    And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loves God, and notice the factual statement: he that loves God, loves his brother also.

    It doesn't say should. It says loves his brother also. That's a factual statement. And again, the love is AGAPE. Man cannot produce this type of love. Only God's Spirit can produce AGAPE love. And that is why a person who has God's Spirit WILL LOVE another believer.

    Yes here we can see the One God clearly as head , sending the Spirit and speaking the Word .

    The One God and father of All , the Spirit of God and the Word of God are sourced out by GOD himself who is in total control by using them to create and do His sole will and purpose .

    It's not 3 it's One GOD , simply explained to a degree .

    All blessings to the true God ! Amen .

  • S Spencer command to love the brethren - In Reply on James 2 - 4 years ago
    Jesse.

    I believe the emphasis here in John is not just the love for the brethren is evidence of

    Christ in you,

    But also the hatred for the brethren is evidence Christ is not in you.

    1 John 2:3-11. ( AND HEREBY WE DO KNOW )that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

    He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

    But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

    He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

    Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

    Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

    ""He that saith he is in the light, and HATETH his brother, is in darkness even until now.

    He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

    But he that HATETH his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.""

    1 John 4:20-21. If a man say, I love God, and HATETH his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

    ( And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.)

    THIS IS LOVE WE CAN'T COMMAND THE FLESH TO DO, THIS HIGH ORDER OF LOVE AND COMMANDMENT SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKE RECOGNITION AND VIRTUE OF THE SPIRIT.

    1 John 4:20-21. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

    And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

    IF we're not in the light we may hear

    "I NEVER KNEW YOU"

    Abide in the true vine.
