    Tinashe,

There is a struggle we as believers go through. We are often faced with temptation. Satan knows our weaknesses and he attacks us that way. Some think that we have to fight Satan but we don't have to fight him because he's already been defeated.

James 4:7 says Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil,

There are two things going on at the same time. Submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and the promise is and he will flee from you.

Again, some people don't realize that we don't have to fight with Satan.

In Ephesians Chapter 6, when Paul talked about the armor of God, he says the purpose for putting on the armor of God is so that you stand, and that you resist the wiles, or methods of Satan. So it's resistance!

By the way, the word persecution in the bible means to chase or to pursue. When Satan persecutes us, he basically chases us.

And the whole purpose is to get us tired and discouraged until we make the decision that we don't want to do this Christian thing anymore because it's "just too tiring."

But you see, Satan can't stop us. He can only chase us.

So the bible says submit to God, and resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Just like with Jesus, when Satan came to Him, He told him no way, I'm doing it God's way.

Jesus quoted scripture and said this is the way I'm going to do it. And what happened in the end? Satan left because he couldn't do anything to Him. He tempted Jesus. That's all he could do.

So the first two commands, submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and the promise is he will flee from you.

The only way to overcome temptation is to resist. It is Satan that tempts, and it is Satan that will flee if you resist him.

Stay in the word. As the saying goes, "This book will keep you from your sin, or your sin will keep you from this book."

    King David in Psalm 51.

Clearly shows his own disgust over his past behavior and choices. A genuine repentance and desire to be restored into right relationship with the Lord again.

What the Bible says: Romans Chapter 13

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. [let your true character and inner resolves show].

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; [don't be sneaky and hide the vice or lust] not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering [hiding out in the house] and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make NO PROVISION for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Me: Our fleshly carnal natures spring up on us and make war with the Spiritual Man/Woman on our insides. If we don't feed that Spiritual Person with the Bible (regularly); we'll end up on all fours eating with the hogs. (No offense intended)

    See Prodigal Son story.

Make No Provision means: don't buy smoking products, don't buy "fermented" or alcoholic beverages. Don't dress in a way that tempts the opposite sex. If you wear a robe, neck to floor, someone will still be attracted to that wholesome, intelligent, happy person on the inside. It's the worldly world that screams we're prudes if we don't bare all and get arm-slinging drunk with them.

I've had wonderful fun with 6 Christian friends at a restaurant SHARING a gigantic platter of nachos smothered under meat and salad!! Everyone talking at the same time, telling funny stories, testimonies from that week. Maybe a group agreement prayer for an individual's request.

Christians don't have to provide anything; just show up. The "world" ought to see us as we are and not be confronted with shabby behavior. Our "Christ likeness" should be light and real.

I love to be at Christian Baseball Games, where both sexes are playing. All that cheering and running is energizing! Many more friendships are formed that way. Also, when a batter hits a ground ball all the way into the outfield :D

We learn tolerance, being a team player in the name of fellowship.

Spencer Raban perphes that is speculating??What brought us into it? The evil ways of the nations coming to fruition.

Genesis 15:16 shows how the Lord waits for evil to become fully complete before He acts to remove the people who cling to such evil.

  • It39s Not Our Fault They Will Not Believe Us - In Reply on John 1 - 4 years ago
Most difficulties understanding some scriptures, stems from a Throne problem. God does not quite sit on the Throne of their hearts, yet.

A lot of people are still in Romans chapter 1, trying to figure out Who made ALL this? If people made it, it would be on sale at Walmart.

PRIDE prevents us from bowing the knee, to Worship The Creator. Pride being the most toxic of the 7 deadly sins. We are endowed by the Creator with creativity within us. Many great minds have tried to explain John 1:1 through the lens of human perception. Everything CANNOT be explained through the lens of LOGIC. Logic is the polar opposite of FAITH. I often wonder what Steven Hawking thought when he was crossing the veil of Death?

God (the Godhead) exists outside the ticking of Time. When He created Time, he said, "IN BEGINNING." If our human brains reject that statement, our FAITH is ship wrecked. Worse yet, we try to find weak-faithed people to follow us, instead of God.

The Bible has to be read through the lens of Faith. Everyone is born with enough faith to see from creation; that SOMEONE made all this. The human body is so complex, that even scientists and doctors admit they cannot make a human from scratch. Frankenstein is a Hollywood movie.

Like Genesis 1:1, in the book of John, God restates, "IN THE BEGINNING". If we reject that statement again...we are a ship in a storm without a rudder. It will crash or sink.

Before The Son of God was born human through Mary; His name was The Word. Before conception He was in Heaven. He was speaking our world into existence. He was on earth, showing people what the Father was like, 33 years. People saw God wrapped in human flesh. Jesus didn't hide anything. He hung on the Cross for people. He didn't have to do it. He did it because, GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD. He did it so that on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit could come into the World and continue Jesus's Ministry to those who would Believe: with signs following.

Lamentations 3:40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

1 Corinthians 11:27-32 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

May the Lord bless our walk with Him. May we go forth bearing precious seed into the world we live in and obey the great commission by making disciples. Let us pray for the authority over us, for God ordained them ( Romans 13: 1-5; 1 Tim 2:1-3)

My prayer is that no one be lost, and that all find the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ. ( 2 Peter 3:9)

May we all abide in His Word. For His coming is nigh.

Lane newell... 1 Timothy 3:1-5 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

    2.A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

    3.Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

    4.One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5.(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

(A bishop is referring to elders who take on the role of teaching)

(A deacon is a service person, taking care of the physical things in the church so that the elders can concentrate on the spiritual teaching)

(A deaconess is the female version of a deacon)

Mike- The god you know is indeed anthropomorphic, because you characterized it as so. The god you know is of human origin as you implied. In addition, the god you talk about is a false god, I agree whole heartly. But the God of the scripture Who is referenced here, in these discussions, is Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent. I challenge you to find out more of this god you talk about and the God we know from the Bible. Test your premises, your facts, your arguments. Will they hold up in court? I am reading your post 6 years later. I pray that you have found the true God that you are looking for and need. May your heart be soften to the things of God before it is eternally too late. God bless you Mike and all in your area of influence.

    Hi Reginald.

    Here's another possibility.

Genesis 22:14. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, IN THE MOUNT OF THE LORD IT SHALL BE SEEN.

Jesus was crucified on the same mountain Abraham offered Issac. "His only begotten Son. And you also see faith in the resurrection as well.

Hebrews 11:17-19. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

    God bless.

Mishael ,i wholeheartedly agree with you ,i know that i belive some things that other people on here dont belive and i know that some people on here belive things that i dont ,ive thought long and hard about the different beliefs of different churches and i came to the same conclusion as you ,i musnt judge ,i ask myself : if i am in the wrong regarding a doctrine does that mean that God will totally reject me ? Does it mean that i will loose my salvation ? Does it mean that i dont have a relationship with God at all and im only fooling myself that i do ? If i am correct and everyone else is wrong does that mean that they are all not saved ? Does it mean that they dont have a relationship with God but they just think they do ,the answer to these questions is : God knows all of us ,intimately He knows who is His ,i dont and i dont have to ,oh some times i feel the need to say what i belive and dont belive but we all have the right to do that on here and we can and do help each other understand things ,ultimately we all come on here because we want to learn from and help each other learn and enjoy each others company ,thats got to be a good thing ,may God bless us all and bring us all even closer to Him in His Love and Truth and Righteousness .
  • Chris - In Reply on John 1 - 4 years ago
Hi Mishael. I'm not sure that Lillie is seeking help on that passage, rather affirming her understanding of it. But I would affirm Jesse's clear understanding of John 1:1 as written in Greek: that there is no indefinite article there to suggest that 'the Word was (a) god'. I had written more on this but there must be something in my comment that is causing it to be rejected. So I just submit this.

Do not believe this claim of a rapture before the resurrection. "Millions will be Left Behind after Jesus removes His Church from the Earth."

This is a massive lie. Jesus seals His church to survive the terrors of that day.

What did Jesus say about the great tribulation? Matthew 17:34-37 Jesus says the "taken" are dead, not raptured.

Divine intervention occurs at the end, not before. The second coming of Christ happens after the great tribulation, when times up.
