Proverbs 8 is an excellent chapter regarding wisdom. Jesus said in John 14:6,"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the father but by me." He is truth. He is wisdom. If you want wisdom, ask our Father! Christ is so gracious to answer our prayers!

Here is a beautiful passage with wisdom speaking This is from the King James Bible. Proverbs Chap9 is about wisdom too

    Wisdom's Call: Proverbs chapter 8.

    Proverbs 8:1-4

1.Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2.She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3.She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4.Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man....

    Proverbs 8:22-36

22.The Lord possessed me (Wisdom) in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23.I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24.When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25.Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26.While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27.When he prepared the heavens I was there: when he set a compass on the face of the depth:

28.When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29.When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment:

when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

    30.Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31.Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32.Now therefore hearken unto me O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my my ways.

33.Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.

34.Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35.For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

36.But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Dolores, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS WISDOM and HIS understanding.

Proverbs 8 explains wisdom: Read it in the light that Jesus Christ IS WISDOM and it will have a lot more meaning.

"Strive to enter in at the strait {narrow} gate; Lu. 13:24 (cp. Mt. 7:13-14) =

CHRIST used the present tense, imperative verb "strive" to describe the Christian's vigorous and strenuous struggles fraught with many temptation, difficulties. and dangers while living the daily Christian life. "Striving" certainly implies ever-present spiritual zeal, for "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" ( Mt. 6:34b). Of special interest, the Greek noun rendering of the verb translated into "strive" is (pronounced "ag-ONE"), and from which the English language derives the noun "agony".

I love Psalm 23 it is a Psalm my mother would recite this all through the day it was her favorite psalm, she taught it to me had me recite, taught me the true word of what this meant to the saved children of Christ. I now today read first before each bible study meditate upon it, and apply to every situation in my life. I may even find my self reciting through the day as well. Just wanted to share that,

Why is it that "people who talk about Jesus" can act worse than people who scoff at Scripture, calling it a fable?

People say "bad Christian," while I think no true Christian CAN act badly!

    Thanks for your comments!

To clarify, I am saying, you can use the word hell anytime you want, but that it is spiritually much better for people to greet other people with, LoveO, instead of HellO!

Subconsciously and spirituality over time it is better for both the sinners and the saints!!

I certainly do like people saying to me "LoveO",

Reminding me that I owe love to people.

If for the pass 200+ years, the sinners and the saints were greeting each other with "LoveO", instead of HellO, there would be a lot less 'hell' in the world today!

    --------------------------------

Also, if someone's name is Hellen, or some other word that has some negative overtones to it, then they can change their name to something more positive, if they want to! God changes peoples names all the time!!

    Look at Abram!

God changed Abram's name to Abraham, and then God changed Abraham's wife's name from "Sarai," meaning "my princess," to "Sarah," meaning "mother of nations". Genesis 17:5 and Genesis 17:15

God changes names of people for spiritual reasons all the time!

God The Father even gives Christ a "new name", and this is for "spiritual" reasons first.

    Revelation 3:12

"He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name."

Jack, I see that the figures I posted didn't come through correctly. Please disregard those figures. The 120 talents of gold would have weighed in at 9000 pounds, which equates to 264 million dollars at today's value. Sorry about the mixed up figures in the previous comment.

    Is this correct?
  • Jesse - In Reply on Nehemiah 8 - 4 years ago
    Anthony,

You are correct. 1 Timothy 2:11-15 gives us instruction concerning function in the church, how God has designed it to be. Verse 11 says "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection."

That is the number one command. What is the woman's role in the church? Learn, in all submission, or subjection.

In Verse 12 Paul says But I suffer not, that is I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man.

We're talking about doctrinal issues in the church. A woman is not to teach, nor to take the authenticity of man, don't take over for him, but to be in silence. That's just what he said. They are to learn in silence. The reason is found in Verse 13.

The church is to function in the order God has designed.

Now to the church in Corinth, Paul wrote this: But I would have you to know that the head of every man is Christ. And the head of the woman is the man. And the head of Christ is God.

There is a type of chain of command that God has established way back in Genesis Chapter 3. And that command is followed in the church.

It's not talking about women not having the same ability, or being better than a man or a man being better than a woman. It has nothing to do with that.

We're talking about responsibility of function. God has chosen the man to pray, and to teach. And He's chosen the woman to be the man's helpmate and to represent the church.

This is God's proper order for the church. Putting the woman in a position of authority over the man in the church would be out of proper order, and would go against how God intended the church to function.

We're talking about responsibility, not one person is better than the other. And God says that if the man functions this way, and the woman functions this way, the church will be fine, and the home will be fine!

Hi Jack. A talent of gold in the Old Testament days was approximately 75 pounds in weight. At today's gold price of USD 1830 per pound, a talent of gold today would cost USD 137,250. Multiplying this amount by 120 (talents) would be nearly 16.5 million dollars. At 9000 lbs of gold from the Queen of Sheba, plus the precious stones & spices which she gave, this was certainly a very large gift given to Solomon.

many churches women are teaching Bible today. Is this correct?

Hi Cam, If I may add unto some of the scripture S Spencer has already provided. The key to our faith and understanding is to read the KJV bible on a daily basis and a lot of our questions will be answered.

Mark Chapter 10:14-15, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

Acts 1:7-11, And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

    Hi Tamara.

    Part 1.

Lets look at some history of the Jews to get an understanding what was the purpose for the tongues where it's first mentioned in Act ch 2.

The Lord says in the Gospels he come for the lost sheep of Israel.

Israel was dispersed all over the then known world after the Babylonia captivity and until that day many remained away from Jerusalem and had NO KING TO SIT ON DAVID'S THRONE. "THEY WERE SCATTERED" NO SHEPPARD.

    AND PICKED UP OTHER LANGUAGES.

So you see why the Lord said he come for the lost sheep of Israel.

    Around 600 years goes by.

""Plenty time to loose your way"" and some keys in the difficult Hebrew language.

Now we come to the cross and the mission of the Holyspirit.

The Lord sent his disciples to Jerusalem to do the work of the Father but wait to be empowered by the Holyspirit, and the spirit was poured out on everyone to RECEIVE/HEAR THE GOSPEL IN THERE OWN LANGUAGE.

( Acts 1:4. And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

( Luke 24:49. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 2:4-8. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with OTHER TONGUES, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of EVERY NATION UNDER HEAVEN.

Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that EVERY MAN HEARD THEM SPEAK IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE-

( You noticed they weren't unknown tongues? )

-And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

AND HOW HEAR WE EVERY MAN IN OUR OWN TONGUE, WHEREIN WE WERE BORN?

It seems here they were given the power to to "hear and understand" other languages.

The other gifts of the spirit was given as well.
  • S Spencer - In Reply on 2 Timothy 2 - 4 years ago
    Hi Tamara.

    Part 2.

1 Corinthians 12:4-18. Now there are DIVERSITIES OF GIFTS, BUT THE SAME SPIRIT.

And there are DIFFERENCES OF ADMINISTRATIONS, BUT THE SAME LORD.

And there are DIVERSITIES OF OPERATIONS, BUT IT IS THE SAME GOD WHICH WORKETH ALL IN ALL.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

    "FOR TO ONE" is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; TO ANOTHER the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

    TO ANOTHER faith by the same Spirit; TO ANOTHER the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

TO ANOTHER the working of miracles; TO ANOTHER prophecy; TO ANOTHER discerning of spirits; TO ANOTHER divers kinds of tongues; TO ANOTHER the interpretation of tongues:

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, DIVIDING TO EVERY MAN SEVERALLY AS HE WILL-

( You noticed these gifts is given and divided as HE/GOD gives. "Not all have the same gifts"

    ( continuing)

-For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

For the body is not one member, but many.

If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

ALL DIDN'T SPEAK IN TONGUES, AND ALL DIDN'T WORK MIRACLES.

-And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

" I believe the gift of tongues used in that way has ceased "

1 Corinthians 13:8. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

    Read 1Cor. Ch12 and Ch 13.

Considering how people speak to each other these days, I find this discussion on the word 'hello' a bit tedious.

Give NO PLACE to the devil.

In Texas we say Hi, Hey, Howdy, Hola, Nice to see you, Long time no see, Dude, Dudette, and numerous others.

I was saved out of the Occult. Satan loves for people to give him any kind of credence or glory. Isaiah 14:11 says that Satan is wormy. I saw a vision of hell. You don't want to see that! It's the definition of Terror; it is eternity of Waiting for the final Judgment and being cast into HELL.

Keep your eyes on Jesus and don't give "place" to Satan. If you think Halloween is a national holiday, you are deceived. If you have that stuff stored in your garage.. it's an open door for demons to make themselves at home.

If you're a Christian and you don't read your Bible; don't have a working knowledge of scripture, or are unable to memorize any scripture: demons can just walk into your house and torment you at your weakest points of entry.

Furnish YOU (your house) with deep layers of scripture. Ephesians 6. That's your SWORD!!

It's 2 edged. It cuts up the devils going in and coming out. It dispatches them to outer darkness IF you speak it? Believe me, "go on and quit picking on me", isn't going to get the demons out of your life.

Tearing apart a word like hello is not useful. Try ripping the head off a demon with a well placed "IT IS WRITTEN" (add a scripture).

They should run for the hills every time the feet of a child of God hits the floor each morning.

We have Jesus's AUTHORITY and Power to make them leave. Learn spiritual warfare. Parents Protect your kids.

That dusty Bible is the Sword of the Spirit. It's more lethal than any weapon available. To you gamers...spiritual warfare is the Real game of Thrones. Don't be deceived.

Has anyone ever done a Word study on the names of satan? Liar, Deceiver, Murderer, Adversary, Accuser, Serpent. Wicked One, Tempter, Afflictor

    Text: Matthew 24:1-14.

Theme: Christ's prophecy what is to come in the future.

Intro: Christ prophesied Matthew 24 when He was departing from the temple: the disciples

followed Him and asked Him a question that triggered the disciples' hearts, Jesus tells them that

Jerusalem including the temple shall be destroyed. False religion, false doctrine and false gospel

shall abound. False Christ including false prophets shall appear and seduce many, Nations and

kingdom shall rise up against each other, nation betray nation and kingdom betray kingdom.

Pestilence, natural disasters shall occur, believers shall be myrted, mankind betray one another,

and the hearts of many shall wax cold toward God, parents and friends. The good news is, Christ

    comforts His disciple Matt 24:6b.
