Genesis 49:27: "Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil."

As you know, Jacob, father of Benjamin, spoke these words of 'prophecy' before passing away. One would anticipate a word of blessing & comfort to his son & his progeny, but his words are what they are. In understanding them, Jacob is describing Benjamin as a wolf who is engaged all day long (morning and evening), in hunting after prey. He was fierce & turned out to be warlike in character and conduct (Judges chapters 20 & 21). As well to note, among Benjamin's descendants are Ehud, Saul, and Jonathan.

I would have great difficulty in seeing a personal application from this verse. Maybe, to not behave as Benjamin did: as he did wrong before God & the people and resorted to anger & had a propensity to battle. Rather, we should pursue righteousness, peace & holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord ( Hebrews 12:14).

    Joe,

First of all, he says my brethren. So these are believing Jews. Have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. So when it says my brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, that's exactly what it says in the Greek text. It is the faith of Jesus Christ. It is His faith. And we have it. We have His faith that He has given to us.

So it says to stop having the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. Now that term "with respect of persons," the Greek word literally means to receive according to the face, or in other words, outward appearance. If the judge recognizes you and wants to let you off the hook, he will. But that's not justice.

So what he is saying here is you actually have, continuously with you the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, but when you discriminate, that does not go together. God does not discriminate. He does not show partiality. And having the faith of Christ and discriminating against people, the writer of Hebrews says later on in Verse 9 of James Chapter 2 that it is a very evil sin.

Hi James. Ecclesiasticus is an apocryphal book, i.e. one of the many books that is used by some churches as part of the Bible but was not deemed worthy to be incorporated into the Canon of Scripture we have in the KJV. Many tests were applied to each Bible Book, however some were found wanting & therefore excluded - and these excluded books are known as the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical Books (or, 'Second Canon' Books).

This KJB Online website provides those apocryphal books for you to peruse. You will need to click on 'More' at the Main Page & then scroll down to Standard King James Bible Apocrypha & find the list of those books therein. However, on reading the reference you shared, what the Dean gave in his lesson, I was surprised by the portion that he chose to read at a funeral service; though he would have had his purpose for doing so.

    Sarah,

If I might add some more, Romans Chapter 13 gives us the institution of government, the doctrine of submission, and then what our participation should be. Romans 13:1 says, Let every soul be subject, or submitted unto the higher powers. That's a command. Be in submission to the higher powers, or authorities in government especially. It goes on to say, for there is no authority but of God: and the authority that be are ordained by God.

God originated authority. He originated organization in the sense of an orderly leadership and relationship amongst people. Being in submission means to be in an orderly arrangement, or to be lined up. In the New Testament, when it teaches on submission, it means to line up in an orderly arrangement, and Christ is the head with whom everybody lines up. Everybody is called to be in submission to Christ.

But being in submission whether to the government or anyone else does not mean to do everything that we are told to do. According to the bible, any time someone approaches us to do something that is a sin or illegal, the answer is no! That's not disobedience.

A good example would be in Acts 5:29 when the leadership came to the disciples and said "You cannot preach anymore in this man's name." They even locked them up. But an angel came and let them out and they went back into the temple and started preaching again. So they came and rounded them up again and they said "Didn't we tell you that you couldn't preach in this man's name?" Then Peter and the other apostles said, "We ought to obey God rather than men."

That doesn't sound too submissive to me but it is because they were in perfect submission to God. So we always have to line up with Christ. We do not submit to our government when they are not being lined up with the things of the Lord.

I don't think we live in a choice society anymore. It takes extreme love and sacrifice to raise children these days. I admire your commitment very much.
  • Carleton - In Reply on James 1 - 4 years ago
I know it is not possible for everyone but we drive 180 miles a day, five days a week so that our son can go to a self-funded Christian school (fortunately for our son he only has to travel half the weekly distance). We have also home schooled in the past with all three children.
  • The Bible vs Public Education - In Reply on James 1 - 4 years ago
Basically the Bible teaches us to love God, and HATE sin.

There is no fuzziness in what the Bible teaches in Romans 1, Leviticus 20:13, Deuteronomy 22:22

My kid came home from school upset because he had to take a test the next day: and agree that man evolved from apes. He knew it was blasphemy because I quizzed him. I told him that he had MY PERMISSION and SUPPORT to FLUNK THAT TEST!! We would make extra credits some other way.

If we don't agree with what public education is teaching our kids: instead of warming a church pew, teach in children's church what the truth is.

What did King David do as a young shepherd boy when he heard his God being cursed by the Philistines? He went down to the battlefield and took off Goliaths head!!

If a kid flunks a test find out how much it reduces the grade point average for the course.

Our children need to know they do not have to conform to something they do not believe in, MORALLY. Do your kids know what morals are? They aren't being taught that in school. Colleges beat in your brains with godless information till you cave in and say what they want on a test. Choose a Christian College!

In 1962, the Lords Prayer, the Ten Commandments and the Pledge of Allegiance to our National Flag was removed from schools. That was bad... but now they are forcing our kids to be gay, so they can belong. Even 6 year old kids who don't even know what sexual acts are. Do they know what sexual diseases are? That they are itchy, ooze, and cause irreparable harm to the body, so they can't have children later?

It takes guts to stand up for your kids and say NO to the gay education reformers. You'd fight back if someone tried to muscle you out of a parking place.

Teach your children & grandchildren about God. One day we will give an account to Gods Face, what we personally did about His Word - the Bible! There's no reward for cowardice or APATHY!

Speak up before it's TOO LATE.

Joe, may the Spirit grace you with HIS wisdom and HIS knowledge.

This verse can't contradict other scripture. Since he addressing the brethren let see if a pronoun helps.

James 2:1 My brethren, have (you) not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

    Hope this helps. GBU

  • Carleton - In Reply on James 2 - 4 years ago
Hi Joe, I think there are a lot of things that we should not mix or confuse with our faith in the Glory of Christ by our partialities that are so much a part of us as weak vessels. We need to lay these weights aside by the grace of God in our lives.

Just a question, if we continue to help those that are so call in need, are we hindering them to call upon the Lord in times of trouble, in times of need? At what point do we stop helping them out of the pit they have dug for themselves (not all) so they can call upon Him instead of man? When they choose not to even pray for help.
  • Genesis versus Old Earth Heresies by Mishael - In Reply on James 1 - 4 years ago
I'm Holy Spirit educated. He's our Teacher and I prefer to sit at His feet.

I'm going to make this real short. All sciences show something was on earth before Adam. It's been proven there were earth wide "kill" events, like when dinosaurs died.

Those things happened before the first 2 words were spoken in Genesis: IN BEGINNING.

What had existed, existed OUTSIDE of Time. God first created TIME. The clock started ticking.

Only the Godhead existed. Also as we read of the battle between God and the rebellion of evil, in the Book of Revelation; also in Isaiah and other places (word search, Lucifer). There were CREATED beings, i.e. angels and demonic beings.

Genesis actually can skip forward a few chapters, and go backwards to where the skip started. It works better if you take NOTES on each event.

You MUST have a reference Bible with CENTER OF EACH PAGE references. It will send you forward or backward, to other RELEVANT information.

Since John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is the WORD, and He is God. A member of the Godhead: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

The things that existed before God created time, are not mentioned in the Bible. There was never a Book with chapters included in the Bible about what was in the universe before Gen. 1:1

Why?? Because this Bible is a story about ONE person. The Son of God. It's his story. He is the Savior of the world. No other person can own that Title. Name ABOVE all other names.

If you've read of "Old Earth Theories", then you are reading false religion and being contaminated. Do a google on that. Those are theories!! Not one of them is WRITTEN in the Bible.

Time started when God spoke, IN BEGINNING.

You need to make your mind up WHO you are following. JESUS or...something NOT in the Bible.

Note: Satan and all his followers are destined for Hell and the Lake of Fire.

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. To confirm TRUTH. Jesus is the WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.

    Choose.

I do not understand verse 1: "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons."

The part I don't get is "have not the faith" - sounds to me as though James is saying our Lord Jesus Christ has NOT the faith with respect of persons - which is totally opposite to what the rest of the chapter says.

I know from reading the rest of the chapter (and other scripture) that we believers should not have respect of persons based on outward appearance, positions of power, political influence, etc. to the detrement of persons of ordinary stature.

When you first come into the website, all of the books of the KJV Bible are listed as links. Just click and read.

On the RED link page you'll see one for the Apocrypha.. which is the one you're reading.

I only read the KJV and don't study other versions. It aids memorization, I think.

I'm not sure if the Commentary Box, makes comments on Apocrypha.

    You can Google the books of Apocrypha;

And type one of these to get what you want to study: history, teaching, commentary

This sounds like the Roman empire expanding and conquering the ptomely. They don't conquer the edomites or ammonites or moabites? The empire got the coast of lybia but not the entire nor the Ethipionians.

More meditations following these thoughts from Daniel.

Perhaps then, while these times were fulfilled by the Gentiles as mentioned in Romans 11 , there was a period of mercy for the root of Israel to grow branches in the New Covenant and this mercy was and had to be first as Israel was the first born, yet only a remnant came to the New Covenant and filled the branches while many branches were broken off by unbelief. Yet by mercy again in the New Covenant, these broken branches allowed the grafting in of the True believing Gentiles. Together they became one church and one baptism.

I was trying to get information to teach a lesson against this to the children that are being exposed to this in public schools. It makes me sick that this has just become an acceptable way of life. We must love the sinner but hate the sin and it is so hard for these kids to understand this when they are being taught it by people they are suppose to respect and believe.
