Just a further note: I had given some more examples of Imprecatory Psalms that you could look up, but they were culled, leaving only Psalm 7. So here they are again:

    Psalm 55; Psalm 58; Psalm 59; Psalm 69; Psalm 79; Psalm 109; Psalm 137; and Psalm 139.

Hi brother Richard. Thanks for the heads up. I found a video on YT: The False Messiah in Jerusalem.

One can't make too much of it but worth bearing in mind, if there are any developments or official proclamations ahead. It doesn't seem to be staged but one can only wonder as to how this 'manifestation' has started or the background of this character. For the moment, we should continue to pray for Israel & for their eyes & hearts to be opened to the true Messiah Who came for them. 2 Corinthians 3:14-17.

  • Good Morning Prayer on Daniel 2:43 - 4 years ago
This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it! Today I rest in the embrace of my heavenly Father's love for me. My father loves me. He spoke me forth from before the beginning of this world, and said this is my child, never rejected! I center myself in Jesus Christ, and I proclaim I am forgiven. There is now no condemnation for me because I am in Christ Jesus! For this day, I renounce all fear, doubt, worry, unbelief, discouragement, depression, pride, arrogance, gossip, [etc.], and in the strong name of Jesus Christ I repent my sin and I take back any ground I have given the enemy in my life!

Just to post this unless anyone else has seen. They are calling someone Messiah in Israel. They were kissing his hand and lots of people trying to get him on camera.

Matthew 24:5. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

This Psalm of David is seen as an Imprecatory Psalm. And that means it is written to call upon God to bring down judgement or curses upon one's enemies. There are several Psalms like this; if you read them, you can see a similar thought running through them (e.g. Psalms 7, 55, 58, 59, 69, 79, 109, 137, 139).

It cannot be ascertained the reason for David writing this Psalm; most believe that it was when David was being hunted by Saul & therefore elaborates 1 Samuel chapter 24, & specifically to verse 15. So the imprecation (call for justice) is not against Saul himself, since David had actually spared Saul's life in this incident, but was against those who stirred up Saul to have such a hatred & jealousy against David.

However, others don't see this Psalm as applying to that incident, but to the opposition David received by Ahithophel, or maybe Shimei, or even Mephibosheth's ingratitude or even Absalom's rebellion. Whatever the reason for writing the Psalm, & like many of the Psalms, one can break it down to understand the writer's thoughts & feelings that he experienced in his troubles.

So we see verses 1-10 as David's petition to the Lord for deliverance & bringing down of judgement upon his enemies.

Verses 11-16: David's lamentation over the unjust hatred he receives from his enemies.

Verses 17-28: his further petition to the Lord for deliverance & justice.

And finally, there is always a note of praise & joy in these Psalms, in knowing that the Lord will not withhold His Hand from evil doers.

That we can be made alike in Him as brothers in Christ to the point that separation in the flesh hurts brother Chris.

Again, thank you for your help in guiding our thoughts and the scriptures together.

  • Chris - In Reply on Ecclesiasticus 8 - 4 years ago
Thank you brother Carleton, for sharing that very deep, thought-provoking message; I had to read it several times to properly comprehend it.

The 'heart' of course is such an immaterial concept, so we who live in a see/touch dimension find it difficult to understand & identify. I can best equate it to the residence of our spirit and to which place, the Holy Spirit is also found in all those who believe. And even though the Spirit continues to affect our spirits in many ways to the end of forming "Christ in us", sadly our minds tend to run riot at times, entertaining fleshly pursuits, affecting our spirit. And so the continual urging to "be renewed in the spirit of your mind" ( Ephesians 4:23) & Romans 12:2: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" must be our constant pursuit.

And if being "carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace" ( Romans 8:6), our minds must be specially affected by the Holy Spirit - and for that to happen, we put away sins in the mind & invite the Spirit to replace them with all that is pure & holy. And even in our struggles in the flesh, we know that "it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure" ( Philippians 2:13) & that work will never cease for it is God's Will & for His Joy for our holiness & bearing His Son's Image.

The reason your asking this, is the spirit leading you. i grew up the son of a tobacco farmer in kentucky. when we went to church on sunday, there was a 20 minute break between sunday school and church and most all the men were tobacco farmers, or associated with it somehow for their living. almost all smoked and that is what they did in this 20 minute break. the women would go out back by the outhouse. there was good christians men and women here as was my dad and mom.

you will not go to hell for but one thing: rejection of jesus christ and his sacrifice for your sins the scriptures tell us he died for all our sins and all our sins were future when he died 2000 some years ago. however let me say this, there is natural consequence for not listening to the spirit when he leads you in something, being a smoker myself for 45 years when i gave my life to and truly fell in love with jesus christ at the age of 44 i continued to smoke for another 8 years and like you i started to wonder if my smoking offended any portion of my relationship with the lord. then i started being a foster parent to teenage boys and taking them to youth groups and summer youth camps etc. found myself not wanting to smoke around these young people. so by the power vested in me broke out the nicorite gum ,made it thru camp,by the grace of god. got home took the right approach! prayed for deliverance from the desire, because i knew this wasn't good for me and i really didn't like it anymore. so as i smoked i kept saying, outloud to myself if someone was around: i am the righteousness of christ and after about a month or so one morning looked at that stogie as i put it out and said thank you father for delivering me from this. put it out and never missed it, again by the grace of god! here is where the natural consequence ,april 2020,took my bladder, prostate and 19 lymph glands. i am a very healthy survivor and praise him everyday for his mercies. and have a great ministry. his peace in you

  • Ivan - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 6 - 4 years ago
For we are saved by grace through faith ( Ephesians 2:8-9), receive the remission of sins through faith ( Acts 10:43), and became God's children through faith in Jesus Christ ( Gal. 3:26). As saved person, we are to glorify God in whatsoever ye do ( 1 Cor. 10:31) and be filled with the Holy Spirit ( Eph. 5:18). Lastly, God forbids us to continue in sin ( Romans 6:12-15). I am praying for you that you will be convicted that even God promised us about the assurance of salvation but He also forbids us to continue in sin and sin cannot please Him.

In Genjesus it says that after God had finished the work of creation he rested on the seventh day. It wasn't until the Law (ten commandments etc) was given in Exodus that God invested the Sabbath day with its holy day character, by giving to the nation of Israel a day of rest thereby separating them from all other nations.

When the Lord Jesus came and through his death instituted a new Covenant through His blood law keeping ended. And rightfully so because it was impossible to keep. Offense in one point was to break the covenant and incur the curse. Jesus lived a perfect life on our behalf and then died to put away our sin through His cross work. Now we have a righteousness through The Lord Jesus that God is willing to except. As the Bible says we are accepted in the beloved.

The Sabbath day is the only commandment not repeated in the New Testament. We do not keep the commandments to earn God's favor but because we are born of God through the New Birth that is being born again from above we desire to please Him and The Lord Jesus Christ and so we accept His desire in living a God honoring Christ exalting life.

Christ arose on Sunday which we refer to as The Lord's Day. We never find the Churches of the New Testament meeting on Saturday (Sabbath) they did meet on Sunday or The Lord's Day and were ceaselessly active on that day for the furtherance of the Gospel.

Here's what Paul states on the Sabbath Roman's 14: 6-6

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." "He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.

A Christian is a follower of the teachings of Christ and Biblical doctrines

1Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

    Romans 12:1-2

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Ask yourself am I being Holy.? Am I being transformed ?

To be conformed is taking on the shape of an object such as jelly in a bowl. To be transformed is taking on a completely new form such a catapiller being transformed into into a butterfly. Why would someone come to Jesus for salvation from the evils of this world and all that is sinful and still desires that which occupies the sinners world and mind.

If there is no desire in my heart to want the sincere milk of the word of God with a corresponding desire to follow and obey its teachings I would have to question the reality of my conversion.

Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God

Nor will he ever enter therein.

    Dear Steve,

God saves and forgives sin of those who genuinely follow and obey Him. But the fact that you're asking this says to me that you think it's wrong. If you think it's wrong why continue to do it? If you're a Christian why not do everything you can to please God and treat your body as a holy temple? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

    Matthew 5:30
