How do I know not to fall into the mark of the beast 666, how and what do I look for so I don't take it?
Revelation 3:10 (KJV) 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
What is this great trial that is coming on the world? Jesus is saying, I will keep you that you shall not collapse under the trials which will prove a severe temptation to many when they will take the mark of the beast. When the beast and false prophet show up, most will worship the dragon which will be the hour of temptation and most will take the mark. This fleshly body is not what we are to save, because it is mortal, and "it is appointed unto men once to die".
The mark of the beast is said to be diverse things, a literal mark, a computer chip, symbols, and more. It may be like the Decian persecution in 250 AD. The decree ordered that sacrifices be performed in the presence of a Roman magistrate, it was a signed and witnessed certificate, issued to that effect, except for Jews, who were exempted. People had to perform a sacrifice to the Roman gods and the well-being of the Emperor. Nevertheless, a great number of Christians were put to death for refusing to perform the sacrifices, many others apostatized (falling away) and performed the ceremonies, and others went into hiding.
This picture language appears to identify those who had given either mental assent or extended the right hand of fellowship to this evil conglomerate power. These compromisers thus were able to prosper economically. By way of contrast, those who received not the mark were unable to buy or sell, hence suffered hardship, illustrated in the form of economic deprivation.
Clear all the preconceived ideas before you study Pray and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Hope this helps, Ron
But for accuracy, I would still nominate the KJV & NASB as the most preferred. Others here may have their own views.
Isaiah the Prophet preached between 740 BC and 686 BC to both Judah, the southern kingdom and Israel, the northern kingdom. His message from God has two sides.
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." Isa 1:18-20
God is willing and able to forgive their sin and give them blessings of plenty "IF ye be willing and obedient."
"BUT if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword"
And that's exactly what happened.
The 10 northern tribes got devoured by Assyria in about 722 BC.
The 2 southern tribes got devoured by Babylon in about 606 BC.
"for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."
Don't mess with God!
I agree. To REPENT is to change your mind...
About sin-acknowledging my sinful, rebellious hopeless reprobate state before The Holy Righteous God
About Jesus-acknowledging that Jesus paid the penalty for my sin in His death, burial and resurrection
One interesting fact that differentiates the Protestant and Roman Catholic view of REPENTANCE, is in the Douay-Rheims Bible (DRB) translation.
"And saying, REPENT ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Mat 3:2 KJV
"And saying: DO PENANCE: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Mat 3:2 DRB
"Bring forth therefore fruits meet for REPENTANCE:" Mat 3:8 KJV
"Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of PENANCE." Mat 3:8 DRB
In contrast to REPENTANCE, PENANCE is self effort in that "he who sins must repent AND as far as possible MAKE REPARATION to Divine justice." Catholic Encyclopedia
Eschatology has certainly divided many Christians. It shouldn't, but some hell fire, and brimstone preachers have elevated these secondary doctrines, issues of separation that I believe have harmed the Body of Christ. I'd like to proceed...
"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity."
I happen to look at The Scriptures using a historical grammatical method of interpretation, agreeing that there are various genres of literature, historic, prophetic, poetic, apocalyptic and there are figures of speech that should not be taken literally but certainly refer to something literal.
One of the main things that come out of this kind of an approach to Scripture is that the church, that is The Body if Christ, and Israel are meant to be two separate entities. For instance, God gave Abraham a promise that included a land: the land if Canaan, The Promised Land. Israel eventually got part of that promise. I continue.
But they disobeyed and were taken out of the land in 606 BC for 70 years. Daniel, in Babylonian exile, was praying about that 70 years, when he got a message via Gabriel in Dan 9:20. Talks about 70 Sevens. After 69 Sevens Messiah is cut off. Leaves one Seven remaining.
One more Seven, a seven year period, is left for Israel. Israel was set aside after the 69 Sevens when they rejected their Messiah. It is now the time if the Gentiles.
"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in." Rom 11:25
This last Seven, is directed at Israel, when God will soften their hears and open their eyes. It will be a time of God's Righteous Wrath and the church will be removed and delivered from the wrath to come. [ 1 Thessalonians 5].
Matthew 24 is Jesus' message to Israel, not the church.
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is ONE LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."Deu 6:4-5
The Hebrew word for ONE (echd) is the same word in this verse...
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be ONE flesh." Gen 2:24
So when God said, "Behold, the man is become as one of us," He was referring the plurality of The Trinity: God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit.
In The Bible there are TWO "In the beginning..." verses.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Gen 1:1
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."Joh 1:1
The Word was in the beginning.
The Word was WITH God.
The Word WAS God.
This is a way of saying that The Word (The Son) was involved with the creation with God (The Father). If you continue to read John 1, you will see that "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." This was Jesus!
The teaching about The Trinity is that God is ONE BEING comprised of three PERSONS: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Each of the Persons are fully God, but distinct Persons.
Hope this helps.
Galatians 1:11-12 "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, (Peter nor any other Disciple taught the Gospel to Paul)but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Jesus told Paul what to Preach to the Gentiles. On the other hand, Paul taught the Gospel which he preached to the Gentiles to the 12 Apostles, including Peter. Galatians 2:1-2 "Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain." And it was at least 14 years after the resurrection. THERE YOU HAVE THE SCRIPTURE, NOT MY WORD BUT GOD'S WORD.
We were conversing about mainly how you perceive that Paul preached a "different" Gospel or something extra that the other apostles didn't have. That Jesus "died" for our sins. In a previous post I stated how ( 1 Peter 2:24 has "Jesus bared our sins in his own body on the tree". Basically stating he "died" for our sins. Which the apostle Peter wrote this epistle first hand, at around the same time, to be fair, some may say earlier, than the Book of Acts. Showing that one book had this "teaching", from Peter, and the other didn't. So there is no way to say Peter or any of the original apostles of Christ did not teach this also. To state only Paul did.
Then you asked a question of what Gospel I was saved by.
Is this not what we were conversing about? My apologies if I am wrong.
it is a voluntary and sincere change in the mind of the sinner, causing him to turn from his sin, it should be noted here I said sin (singular) and not sins (plural). True repentance involves the turning from one specific sin, the previous rejection of Christ. Jesus spelled this out very clearly for us in John chapter 16. It is expedient for you that I go away: I will send the Comforter unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." As you can see, "repentance" is not being sorrow for your sins; it is the Godly sorrow that causes a person to Change his mind (Repent). picture this: a man does not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, someone tells him the Gospel that Paul preached to the Gentiles; the man is sorry he has rejected Christ, he repents (Changes his mind), and Believes that Christ died for his sins, according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose from the dead three days later, and receives Christ as savior the second he believes it And is sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.
Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, (that's the body,) and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; (that's the spirit, ) and man became a living soul" (body, soul, and spirit.) According to Luke chapter three, Adam was the son of God."
A son of God is a creature that is sinless at the time of his creation. So in the Bible you have "Angels" called sons of God, Adam is called a son of God, the nation of Israel are called sons of God, Jesus Christ is called the only Begotten Son of God, and when YOU get born again, and made a new creature, you are then called a son of God.
In Matthew 16:15-17 Jesus confirms He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
If you were wondering more specifically about John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth..." then Jesus Christ is still the answer for as it says in John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me:" So He was saying sanctify them through the truth (through Me) for I am the truth.
I hope this helps.
