Eric, I'm not aware of which discussion thread you're referring to: "stoning to death is just a spiritual death", so can't comment specifically on what was written there. But if that conversation was in respect of, for example, Stephen's stoning ( Acts 7:58), then it's clearly a physical stoning as all the verses depicting that event clearly show. Maybe, some people can't bear the thought of a person being stoned, as was done in those days & sometimes happens now under Islamic law in rural areas, & so they form their interpretation based on their feelings rather than fact. So please remember, those that offer their opinions, whether correctly based on Scripture or not, are doing just that (an opinion) & it's up to the reader to consider those comments & make their assessment - maybe even offer yours so that a good discussion can happen. God bless you in your journey.

    Dear Brother,

I have thought; prayed & meditated on the writing & meanings of each Book, Chapter & Verse - that I've studied as they've entered my life.

Starting this Bible study is my commitment to immerse my Soul in The Word of God!

I BELIEVE God is THE Author of the Old & New Testaments.

God spoke to each of the "Transcribers" & wrote what The Almighty "Dictated to them.

An example of this is Moses & the 10 Commandments; Moses being a "Vessel", filled with the Holy Spirit's Light, had to cover his head because, I Spiritually "See" Moses & I "See" that to look upon the Light of The Holy Spirit emanating from Moses' head would be like Looking at The Sun!

My point is this; if I had "Transcribed" for The Almighty, I would have written what I just wrote I "saw", KNOWING that most people would easily understand & experience what God had me Transcribe!

There were many "Transcribers", using their surroundings, customs & channeling of God's words to Transcribe accurately but understandably, God's Words for Humanity, for all time!

These were Holy Men (Holy Women, too!) Of God, FILLED with The Holy Spirit, who responsibily Transcribed in "The Books" God's SPOKEN Words into His Poetry, History- to Understand God for Fellowship with The Almighty & His Creation, MANKIND..

God's Laws, to be followed EXACTLY, For RIGHTEOUS Living; NO MATTER WHAT! So the Transcriber of each Book HAD to make sure "The Word of God" would be Understood & Followed, FOREVER!

Transcribers "INTERPRETED" The Prophecies; VERY IMPORTANT because to have TRUE FELLOWSHIP with Our Father, We Children must Trust & Live Our Father's Words; The Ten Commandments, His Laws for RIGHTEOUS Lives; to KNOW We Must give Our Will over to the Care of Our Father.

If We Live by Spiritual Law; God Will ALWAYS PROTECT US & if the God's Laws aren't Followed, what would happen- Warnrnings/inspiration to be Righteous!

About the Future of Mankind & Most of All - to give All His Children - HOPE!9

    My brother Adam,

Just to write a kind reply. Many people today believe and have proof of the earth being "flat"(simple term). Proving the curve of the earth to not be real, or exist, as would be on a "ball". The only proof nasa or anybody else has is word of mouth and pictures/TV. As I am not here to make anybody believe anything. We are all on our own mission as you know.

So to the Bible. As Gary stated about the "firmament". Saying to study the word maybe that it actually means a "solid expanse". A couple other things in the Bible on this in Genesis. How the great lights that were created, sun, moon, stars, were set "in" the firmament. Genesis 1:14-17. How Joshua made the sun, and moon, stand still. Joshua 10:12-13. Some people say God really made the earth stop rotating and spinning because they didn't know we were on a "ball" in space back then. Basically saying the Bible is wrong here. Or maybe how the Bible says in so many places the earth is "fixed and immovable". Is the Bible wrong here too as nasa claims we are spinning at around 1000mph and rotating around the sun over 66k mph? I believe the Bible.

Did you know they say the tilt of the earth is 23.4 degrees? Minus a right angle of 90 degrees it is 66.6 degrees.

As I'll end with Isaiah claiming God to sit on the circle of the earth. A circle is not a "ball" or "sphere". Isaiah also knew this as well. In Isaiah 22:18 he states "toss thee like a ball". Which is a different Hebrew word than "circle".

Anyway, again, I don't think us followers of Christ should argue over such things. Sometimes the truth is not easy to accept after being deceived for all our lives.

Jesus Christ our Lord is the way and we should all focus on Him. Staying strong in the Word. Amen.

    God Bless brother.

Sacha, thank you very, very much for taking your time to pray for me and encourage me. I printed it so I will read it everyday. It's that I know Jesus has healed me because by His stripes we are healed. It's the matter of the manifestation, a miracle. People will not believe of God's power in supernatural miracles if I look the same. Thank you very much and God bless you everyday.

Hi Gary, disbelievers usually refer to this as creation vs. science. However, it's really science vs atheism. Atheists are motivated to show only data that reaffirms what they want to believe, so they naturally have a bias against all scientific data that supports creation. It's not real science if it's biased. There are countless evidence of God through scientific data. There are many good YouTube videos and websites on this. For example, the fact that we even exist is a scientific data point supporting intelligent design. Tesla cars don't invent themselves randomly, but humans with even more features than a Tesla designed itself? That has never been seen or witnessed and can't be reproduced, which is why that's only a theory or a belief- similar to a religious belief, but with even less support.

Scientists often proclaim things boldly as indisputable facts and are often wrong, then they quietly retract the falsehoods and move on. Things like diet, how our body works, left brain/right brain assumptions, physics, animals and instinct, space. Nearly every topic people have been 100% wrong in the name of science, but they got everyone to believe it at the time. Al Gore said houses on beaches would be 10' underwater and that was supposed to be a few years ago. He even bought a mansion near the beach in Malibu so he obviously didn't believe it himself. So, there's a long history of people claiming to be scientists and being 100% wrong.

Now the firmament- you said there's a scientific paradigm that says the opposite. So, what? Do you believe one person's opinion over the wisdom of the Bible? Remember the world's smartest "scientists" used to believe the earth was flat, but the Bible said it was round- it called it the "circle of the Earth" which was written in Isaiah in BC. But scientists didn't agree or believe it until at least 1,500 years later. The Bible's wisdom has proven each time to be right on everything. Link

(Remember ye now O man and consider: The Fear of THE LORD, given of GOD by the Son of man on the Sabbath day: one thousand one hundred ninety and nine Sabbath days past: and forget not 2 Esdras 15.) Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. O people: If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, MICHAEL ISAAC, THE LORD THY GOD, even the CHRIST child; then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful and the plagues of thy seed: even great plagues and of long continuance: and sore sicknesses and of long continuance. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: I commanded all men everywhere to repent that your sins may be blotted out. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Man that dug down my alters and covered my memorials: and attempted to corrupt my Word to oppress my people; have violated exceedingly more than any copyright! I AM he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I AM alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Genesis came to mind. The creation account clearly gives us the earth surrounded by water, above the firmament and below. Of course we now have a scientific paradigm that tells us the opposite. They both cannot possibly be correct and yet for quite some time now professed bible believers have mutilated the inspired word in their efforts to conform with the scientific world view. If you have the courage study the word firmament, it reveals the true nature of Gods creation.

Sandra, I do agree with what you've said about the 'law of commandments contained in ordinances', that the reference here is not to the Ten Commandments but to those other laws pertaining to sacrifices, new moons, sabbaths, etc., but not just these only, but all the Law was fully met by Jesus & then abrogated at the Cross.

"The Law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good", but its usefulness, effectiveness & applicability became redundant at the Cross. For sin, taking its authority from the commandment, 'slew' Paul, because that was all the Law could do. What Paul hoped that the Law would give him life, instead only brought him death. So he said that "with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin."

Was Paul saying that he was still going back to God's Laws, obeying in them in his mind & allowing his flesh to sin? No. In the very next verses he says in Romans 8:1-4: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." The Law of sin & death (the Ten Commandments & not just the Law contained in Ordinances, but the whole) which slew him, he now rejected, but rather a new Law of the Spirit had taken its place & brought him freedom & power to fulfil the righteousness of the Law.

And Galatians 3:19, as you quoted, doesn't refer to the Ordinances but to the Law - indeed that whole Chapter 3 is devoted to pointing the believers from depending on the 'works of the Law' to the application of faith through the Spirit.

    Page 2.

Romans 2:14,15 clearly show that the Law was never in our possession & we've never been subject to them. And then when the Gentiles became believers, the only instruction given was, not that any of the commandments given to the Jews be followed, but as per Acts 15:19,20: "Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

Rather, our directive can never be from the Law given to Israel, because "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." ( Romans 8:2). If the Life-giving Spirit freed a Jewish Paul from the bondage of the Law, how much more to us Gentiles, who never received the Law, are only subject to the Spirit's directions in our lives.

Again, thank you for bringing up those very worthy points.

Thank you for your comments Steven, on this important subject. If I may add some thoughts here:

    a. "They don't view the ten commandments as our schoolmaster to show us our short comings, and a need for a savior but rather they're instructions to salvation". Indeed, some do look at salvation in this way, but I think generally, Christians who have been taught properly, don't see that obedience to the Commandments are necessary for salvation, rather, that after being saved, they revert back to it, or fuse it with saving faith, believing God requires to almost use it like a checklist to be on track & to please Him. See how much of an issue Sabbath-keeping is with some. But as you indicated, all that does is bring us back into bondage to the Law.

    b. "Did Jesus struggle to resist sin as we do?" This may be difficult to answer but I rather believe that at his temptation with Satan ( Matthew 4:1-11) & very likely throughout His earthly ministry, Satan would have continued to come at Him: and this was to force sin upon Him so a sin nature may be born in Him. I say this, as we see that the first Adam was born without a sin nature, but he failed to resist Satan, & he inherited a nature given to sin & death eventually followed. So when we read that "as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" ( Romans 5:12), the fact we too die is proof of the sin nature being transmitted, rather than the import of any specific sins of Adam.

    c. "we were transgressors before the commandments, and when the commandments came we died because we became sin." I tend to make a clear demarcation between those given the Law & those who haven't received it. Certainly, we are privileged to have the Bible so we can learn more fully of God's requirements, but if we're not Jews, how are the Laws, then & now, applicable to Gentiles?

Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

The Apostle Paul's affirmation that to a child of God, all things (whether of good or ill) work together according to God's Plan for us, for our good & blessing. So, even if something appears hurtful or a tragedy in life, we know that God is mindful of our physical suffering but has allowed it for a purpose, maybe just to draw us closer to Him & trust Him more for the future. Gold can only be refined through extreme heat, but the refining process is not a single event but multiple, until all the dross is removed. As God's children, we have to accept the good with the bad, knowing that it's for our growth in Christ & for His Glory as we are witnesses for Him in difficult circumstances.
  • Chris - In Reply on Leviticus 23 - 5 years ago
One can't be sure how those people in the days of Noah understood the passing of years - maybe some sort of record was kept for each day of one's life, & though a tedious job, the information would have been carried forward to succeeding generations. Moses, who generally is considered to have recorded the events of Genesis, somehow gained information on the length of days of those who lived pre & post Flood. However, it wasn't until God's direction to Israel to observe certain rules, such as not eating leavened bread on a particular day (Exodus chap 12) & then concerning the Sabbath, the day of rest, did a type of calendar follow & this was maintained strictly, lest they suffered God's Anger for their disobedience.

Jews use a calendar based on a lunar (moon) cycle whereas we have one based on the Sun. So the amount of days in their months vary slightly but they still have 12 months in the year. Some of their months have 29 days & others, 30 days. Just as their day officially starts at sunset, these are important along with their calendar so as to strictly observe their religious holidays, feasts & festivals. But they have to abide with our Gregorian calendar as well, if they are to align their worldly affairs with other countries.

As to the date of Jesus' birth, no one can be sure as no date has been recorded or given. Suggestions of dates from as early as September to as late as March have been offered after considering various events, Roman govt. in power, Herod's rule, etc., but no one can find agreement on a date. Though interestingly, the early apostolic Church is never recorded as celebrating Jesus' Birth or Resurrection on any particular date: rather, whenever they met to break bread, they remembered the Lord in His Coming & His Sacrifice. Might be worth noting.
  • S Spencer on Genesis 4 - 5 years ago
We often get questions on whether Jesus could have committed sin, some believe he had a sin nature but was just obedient, and all we have to be obedient and trust in Christ and we shall be saved, ( In that order, SANCTIFICATION AND THEN SALVATION AFTER THAT. ) They don't view the ten commandments as our schoolmaster to show us our short comings, and a need for a savior but rather they're instructions to salvation. But how can they be instructions for salvation if they were impossible to keep being we have this cursed sin nature? If you can keep all the commandments why is there a need to be born again? If we are not born with a sin nature why are we baptized in Jesus death? Did Jesus struggle to resist sin as we do? Better yet did struggle with doing the right thing as we do? ""NO"". If we go to hell it will be because we didn't believe in he who was promised to come 430 years before the commandments, because we was transgressors before the commandments, and when the commandments came we died because we became sin. Jesus came to take the PENALTY of sin "which is death" off us and placing it on himself and defeating death when he rose from the dead! so if we was baptized in his death we should walk in newness of life by his resurrection, So sanctification comes after salvation. Man isn't a sinner because he committed a sin, Man commits sin because he is a sinner. ( EXAMPLE) You take a man biting dog and tie him up. he's now unable to bite is he still a man biting dog? The ability of man able to sin makes him imperfect and unholy apart from Jesus Christ. So if you want to be judged by your achievements you're still in bondage, if you trust in Christ you are freed. Thank you.
