    Dear Sir,

I would like a commentary on The Wisdom of Solomon 5:12-16 so that I share it on my Face book timeline. Thank you and Peace to you all. David

12Or like as when an arrow is shot at a mark, it parteth the air, which immediately cometh together again, so that a man cannot know where it went through: 13Even so we in like manner, as soon as we were born, began to draw to our end, and had no sign of virtue to shew; but were consumed in our own wickedness. 14For the hope of the ungodly is like dust that is blown away with the wind; like a thin froth that is driven away with the storm; like as the smoke which is dispersed here and there with a tempest, and passeth away as the remembrance of a guest that tarrieth but a day. 15But the righteous live for evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the most High. 16Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord's hand: for with his right hand shall he cover them, and with his arm shall he protect them. 17He shall take to him his jealousy for complete armour, and make the creature his weapon for the revenge of his enemies. 18He shall put on righteousness as a breastplate, and true judgment instead of an helmet.

God has no grandchildren, each person must know him as Lord and Saviour for themselves. Other people cannot know your personal confidence with the same passion. Their understanding unto salvation will only come to them by the grace of God and that's what you must pray for. What you know is because God told you, and they also must hear God. The best truth you can tell them about what you know is "I know whom" 2Timothy 1:12

Sound doctrine was the commandment of God given in Eden, and Adam turned from hearing it, as also Cain turned from hearing God. So, since that time men reject God. However, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 God is faithful to sow his word in this world. Romans 10:8-11

What a mighty Scripture portion you've shared. Thank you Steven. And people miss that little phrase tucked away: "which are a shadow of things to come". The "body" might cast a shadow, but the "shadow" becomes insignificant when the body is present. Our focus must be on the "body" to which the things in the shadow point to.

Thank you all for the amazing support and the prayers.

If you have some time on your hands please uphold me in your prayers so that God can show me if there's a way out of the hell hole im in. In a way that suits me and is in his will. And to tell me what i should do.

Also to experience the least amount of suffering or agony while im on this Earth until the time comes that Christ decides to take me home. And that i would die in the least painful, least agonizing death he can grant me as i am in tremendous emotional pain, along with a ton of other physical problems that are just delaying my agony.

So please pray that he takes me home in the most unagonizing way, and without suffering as much as he wills.

As well as grace, peace, and mercy for everyone as much as he wills. And for Him to save my friends and family. And to not punish us for our sins as much as His will allows.

I agree with your understanding about the rebuilding of Jerusalem & its walls. But then, who is the Messiah referred to? I can't think of anyone that Daniel might consider to be a (type) of Messiah.
  • Chris - In Reply on Ephesians 2 - 4 years ago
2 Peter 3:8 is part of Peter's instruction to the Church, maybe the same as in his first epistle (to the believers scattered in Asia Minor). His warning that in the last days (i.e. the days after the close of the apostolic era), scoffers will arise raising questions & doubts as to when the promise of Jesus' coming will actually happen. Both Jesus & the apostles spoke of a believers' readiness & expectancy of Jesus' coming, & since this event had not happened, certain Christians were raising doubts that this teaching was false.

Peter then goes on to give two reasons why Jesus' coming will happen: 1. God's Promise is sure. Just as God waited till the extent of mankind's sins were too great & then enveloped the Earth by a Flood, so to is God holding back His Judgement against the Earth now until the appointed time. 2. God's clock & calendar is not human-based. God is not bound by or ruled by time: one day in Heaven is like a thousand years or a thousand years, as one day. There's no calendar, nor day or night or even an awareness of the passing of time. We on Earth can't comprehend such a state of being, but in God's Presence, time does not matter, as in eternity, time does not exist.

I would disagree with the statement that the days are prophetically years. Notice that it starts from the going forth of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. This was done in the times of Nehemiah and Ezra. To say the Messiah mentioned here is Jesus is troubling to me as I don't see him fulfilling the rest of the prophesy verbatim. It is much more likely that the prophesy was fulfilled literally as I believe a through study of the time will show/prove.

Romans 10:9-13 sums up what we need to do to become a child of God. If you first understand that you are a sinner (as we all are before God) & your sins have brought you grief, then your only hope is in the Mercy of God to forgive you, cleanse you & accept you into His Love & Kingdom. And God promises to do this because He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for your sins, in your place, so you don't have to face God's judgement.

Confess to God through Jesus His Son. When God forgives, He sends His Holy Spirit to be in you to seal you as a child of God & to minister to you & guide you in your life. Spend time in prayer to God, praising Him & just talking to Him, your Heavenly Father. Spend time in reading His Word, the Bible, to learn more of Him & what He requires in your life. Attend a Bible believing Church to help you grow in your faith & speak to the Pastor about being baptized in water as a public testimony of your identification with Christ & your personal testimony against Satan who will seek every opportunity to make you commit sin or have doubts. Please don't waste any time to get right with God - you don't know what the next day brings. He's waiting for you now, ready to forgive all who come to Him in faith. May the Lord God be with your spirit to reveal these things to you & help you.

What was the Judaizers message? Circumcision was the 'big thing' ( Gal 5): one could never be a true Christian unless he was first circumcised. They also needed to adhere to the various rites & ceremonies as prescribed by Law ( Gal 4:9,10).

Thirdly, with the above in mind (the limitations & brevity of the Law and to be warned about wrong teaching entering in), Paul then asks, "Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?" ( Gal 3:2). Did the Law, whether found in the 10 Commandments or in the strict observance of religious days, events, sacrifices or ceremonies, ever minister to them the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus? With the limitations of the Law & by its design & expiry date, why would a believer ever appeal to that faded Law when the Life-giving Spirit because of Jesus Christ, was their possession: from the Spirit Who speaks & ministers to the heart & not by the letter of the Law? ( Romans 7:6; 2 Corinthians 3:6).

You ask: "What then is the overall message we need to hear and understand?" The pressing message from the apostle is clearly in Galatians 5:1: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage". Though most of us don't have a Jewish heritage hanging over us, yet how many other believers still want to appeal to the Law (maybe not as the Judaizers did), but certainly when it comes to the strict adherence to each Law, even the Sabbath in particular, lest they fail from the Grace of God. If that were the case, then as Paul would say in Romans 11:6: "And if by grace, then is it no more of works (conforming to the Law): otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."

What a life & a liberty that Jesus has gained for us - yet so many Christians today desire to place a yoke of bondage upon us thereby weakening or negating the liberty we have through faith only, in Jesus.

Fred, I think you may be referring to my earlier comments to the enquirer about why Paul wrote to the Galatians. If not, & your comments here are of a general nature & not directed to me, I apologize.

But if could write a few things to what you've written. It's probably good to stay with Galatians, since Paul is quite thorough in his teaching of the Law vs Grace. And this was so, as you noted, that the Church(es) there were being infiltrated by these proponents of the necessity of keeping the Law in all its forms coupled with embracing the freedom that the believer has in Christ.

Firstly, the Law can never complement the Gospel of Grace - they are opposed to each other in both meaning & application. If searching hard for a connection, it would have to be that both are from the same Author: given at different times & for different outcomes. The Law by its very nature & objective was given because "of transgressions till the Seed should come" (3:19). The Law was given to Israel so that they might know God's requirements for them, to be made aware of the nature & effects of sin ( Romans 7:9) & the compulsion to deal with it with sacrifices which diverted God's Anger & Judgement upon them. This was a continual offering because sin was a continual burden to the soul. The sacrifices & odours were acceptable to God in view of the One great & perfect Offering made & given by God that would be offered once & for all people ( Hebrews 10:10,12,14).

Secondly, Paul's dealing with the Judaizers was very stern, because any fusing of the old Jewish Law with the New Covenant through Jesus would never work. Paul even appealed to Abraham ( Galatians 3:6-18) to show that God accepted him for his faith, & the blessings to the (gentile) nations could only come based on that faith alone. If what we inherit came by obedience to the Law, then it would no longer be "by promise", as what was assured to Abraham.

    Colossians 2:13-17. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

    Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

I don't think that Bible teachers avoid such passages; maybe those passages just don't come up in their course of studies or preaching. If you look at a commentaries, I'm sure you will find detailed comments about such issues.

When I consider them (such as 1 Samuel 15:3), or when God commands that the heathen be driven out of their lands, or to kill the males & save the women & children, I understand that God is exercising His Authority & right to do what He wants with His creation. Do we feel the same way when only 8 souls were saved in the Great Flood & many thousands of men, women, children & animals were destroyed? Or, when tragedy strikes us today (e.g. a Tsunami, earthquake, virus) & again an innumerable number destroyed?

Jeremiah 18:1-10 teaches us that God, the Potter, has the full right to do as He pleases with His creation. If God decides to strike me down today, does anyone have the right to ask Him, 'Why'. The problem then arises, when referring to those OT Scriptures, is in regards to whether any of God's appointed leaders, such as Joshua, Saul, etc., did actually receive God's Commands or were prompted by their own lust for war & destruction. I'm in no way suggesting this as I believe that God did speak & directed His servants in how they should deal with the heathen, but I only suggest this because people will query the authenticity of the Divine Command & therefore the issue needs to be dealt with them.

In this vein, I think of the Islamic prophet, Muhammed, who too claimed to be called by God to destroy the heathen idolators living in the cities of Mecca & Medina. Did He call him to do so, or was it done of his own volition? In the NT, we're never told to go out & slaughter anyone, but sadly it has been done in the name of Christianity (e.g. the Crusades, etc.). Ours is always the Gospel of love to all people. Yet, God hasn't finished with the World: millions more will yet be struck down by God through various means for their sins.

you are absolutely correct and this is just some more scripture to support your view, and if I may add read our bible (KJV) on a daily basis. Thank You

Mark 10:15 "Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein."

Luke Chapter 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when [his] disciples saw [it], they rebuked them.

16 But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
