Though the statement within it, "which must shortly come to pass" has caused concern amongst some that the events of the Great Tribulation & the Anti-Christ have still not happened after all these centuries, we need to understand this Book as giving a revelation of the condition of the Church in these last days & the increasing deterioration of society leading up to this final judgement. In other words, unlike what the 'prophets of today' tell us, who give us hope that our lives are becoming better & the world is in much better shape, God's Word tells us that ever since Calvary, we have been on the decline, as the Cross has set the demarcation line separating those running to it in faith for salvation & those who violently oppose that Work. Technology & man's knowledge may have increased, giving us a more comfortable lifestyle, but his rejection of God's Love in Jesus, has marked him as very unwise & destitute of the Truth leading him to utter ruin, his judgement & the coming final closure of the age.
In Revelation, we are told about the seven angels with their seven vials & that they empty out their vials in succession, causing a great sore on those who received the Mark & worshipped the beast. The succeeding vials contained that which rendered the sea useless for life, then upon the rivers & streams, the constant burning heat of the sun, utter darkness, drying up of the Euphrates to open the way for the eastern nations to move westward, & finally the great earthquake & hailstorm.
I can't correlate any of these occurrences to what has taken place on Earth thus far affecting mankind, as they appear quite distinct in nature & affecting the coming Anti-Christ & those who follow him. And these, by virtue of their description, would indicate that the whole world will be afflicted by these 'plagues', which then gives support that those who have placed their trust in Jesus for salvation will not be around to experience this, which is otherwise called the Wrath of God poured out upon wickedness. Therefore, it's my understanding that the plagues that the world has experienced thus far are those that are part & parcel of the evils that come upon us because we are sinful people living in a sin affected world; but that which is to come will be different & coming in rapid succession as a result of God's Anger against the Devil incarnate & his followers.
"Asia" in the Book of Acts is modern day Turkey or Asia Minor. The cities of Phrygia, Galatia, Mysia, Bithynia and Troas are all in Asia Minor. In the beginning of Acts, chapter 16, Paul was already in "Asia" (Turkey) with the decree from Jerusalem. He had picked up Timothy in Lystra and continued in verse 4 to spread the news in southern Turkey. However, once Paul got to Phrygia (verse 6), the holy spirit kept him from preaching. So Paul and his companions moved on again and again until it was revealed to him in a vision in Troas that he was urgently needed in Macedonia (northern Greece). We believe that this was the main reason God forbade Paul from preaching in Asia Minor. It soon became clear to Paul and his companions that they would not have been where they needed to be had they lingered in Galatia any longer. Therefore, verse 6 is less about God forbidding Paul to preach in Asia and more about Paul's trusting God's divine timing.
One plows the fallow ground of our hearts in prayer; another sprinkles the see of Gods Word; next our intercessors rain on the seed with our prayer ministry; the Lord of the Harvest sends reapers (evangelists) to bring in the harvest. This is how Jesus planned it.
What are the current opinions of Biblical scholars on this?
God spoke of those He and Jesus were Perfecting in their flesh YOU are greater a prophet than John the Baptist who had not the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of God's indwelling presence with love, Knowledge, wisdom and Power after the evidence of Speaking in the Heavenly language of prophetic tongues which is God speaking in prayer to and through you for understanding and guidance.
John says Oh Generation of Vipers about these religious fakers in that day and in this as well because they preach No One Is Perfect while on the earth in his flesh. But here was the Son of God as our high priest in the flesh manifesting the indwelling presence of the Living God in sinless Perfection and God's Righteousness in His flesh as our example which God and Jesus said is our image when God cleans us and lifts us from our repented sins. Oh you generation of Vipers who has revealed to you the wrath that is to come. In Job God calls these False Religious men whom come before God in prayer whom he despises SATAN, and reveals their wickedness toward anyone who dares approach God without their approval and through their fake understandings and dead doctrines but not intimacy with God in His grand scheme to lift you suddenly into Christ so you can have a face to.
Never Leave You or forsaken You - iam
Proof of that - we are the ones that Leave him.
Because we take our eyes of Christ Jesus and Look
And Listen to the world. Read what Peter did in the
fishing boat in the middle of the strom when he called
to Jesus who was Walking on the WATER. WHEN YOU
TAKE YOUR EYES OFF CHRIST YOU FALL !!!
The word 'brethren' has a wider meaning than just 'brothers'. The Hebrew allows for it to mean, 'countrymen, kinsmen, relatives, etc." As well, Abram included not only himself but his herdsmen in this plea for peace. So by using the word 'brethren', Abram seems to come as a peacemaker to show Lot that "we're all here & in this together as one big family, so why should this matter cause us strife & division & pull us apart". As it happened, they did go their separate ways but hopefully, any anger felt earlier would have subsided.
In those early days, the garments of men & women were very similar, & not distinct as they are now. So in the aspects of style, cut & embroidery work, these would give them some distinction between the genders & general acceptability. Today, fashions are also clearly defined & acceptable even if it means that pants/jeans may be worn by women: so I don't see that this is what the verse refers to here.
It seems more likely that the Israelites are being forewarned as they come into heathen lands that this type of behaviour, unknown to the Israelites, were common among the heathen, particularly in their temple worship to their gods & goddesses. And later on, when transvestism became more common place among the heathen, even among the Romans (known for their debauchery), this warning became more applicable that God's people should never resemble the heathen in such practises & maintain a proper, relevant dress code. So I understand this warning in Deuteronomy does not apply to what is normal, acceptable, decent styles of clothing, but to those who pursue the wearing of such apparel of the opposite sex because of their depraved minds & sinful hearts.
As the Israelites in Egypt applied the blood of the animal on their doorposts so that the Lord would 'pass over' & not kill their firstborn, so through Christ's death, God's Lamb was sacrificed on our behalf & His Blood applied to our hearts & lives. By faith we accept that work of Grace & through faith the Blood cleanses us from every sin; the Lord seeing the application of the Cross in our lives, means He passes by us & we stand uncondemned & not face eternal death.
There is no reason for believers in Christ to commemorate Passover, if they do, they would bring themselves under the requirements of its intended meaning & application & that is no longer valid, as what the Israelites looked forward to (maybe, unknowingly), we have fully received through Jesus Christ. Their salvation from the bondage in Egypt is now our salvation from bondage to sin & condemnation.
