You've truly bared your heart to us Kelsey, revealing your agony for your own spiritual life & your husband's as well. I could easily suggest finding strength to cope through prayer & reading the Scriptures, for God does indeed speak to us when we truly search for Him with all our heart; yet, I sense that for both of you, your troubles are deep-seated & particularly with your husband, who is "lazy, lacking motivation", he may have become like this by carrying heavy mental & emotional burdens & hurts that are weighing him down, causing him to find his present state easier to bear.

The fact that he at one time encouraged you towards the Lord is remarkable given his present state. And this shows that he has some serious issues within. Do you attend Church? Or are you able to get some Christian help to find a Christian counsellor or Pastor who can sit with you both & try to guide you from under this dark cloud? Your husband may not agree with you doing this, as pride can take over & make one resistant, but for the sake of your well-being & marriage, you really need to pursue some external help along with looking to the Lord.

But don't push him into doing something - he may turn the other way altogether. Be the wife of understanding, compassion & help to him - let him see you loving him in spite of himself & you trying to get him well again. Can you get out of the house & enjoy even a simple walk in the park, a movie, a meal, sharing things that can encourage both of you, rather than bringing on sadness or anger? If he has become reclusive, then small steps might be needed to get him 'going' again. If Bible reading is too heavy for him now, maybe a light devotional book that shares a word of encouragement & guidance might be useful. He needs to have a fresh view of God, of His Love for you both, & that the life & marriage God has given you, can be made fresh & enjoyable. My thoughts & prayers are with you both as you seek God's guidance for yourselves.

  • Chris - In Reply on Matthew 19:23 - 5 years ago
I believe you will find your answer by reading the same account in Mark 10:17-25. In Mark, the added remark of "Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God" (v 24).

So wealth is not the problem, unless of course one is distracted by it or uses what God has given, unwisely. But the point of Jesus' remark was that He detected that this young man's heart was not right. He might have "kept all the commandments" as he said, but in fact Jesus noticed that he broke the very first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me". This man went away sad, as it wasn't just his wealth that held him back, but his love, trust & dependence that he placed on it, that relegated God into second place. And indeed, it doesn't have to be money that can cause us to put our God & Saviour into second spot. 1 John 5:21.

My understanding: the Sabbath was created as a day of rest for Israel ( Exodus 31:12-17), just as the Lord rested from His creative Work. This fourth commandment was blessed by God & sanctified (made holy) long before He gave it as a direct commandment to the children of Israel. It was a day of complete rest (cessation from the activity that occupied the other six days) & a day devoted to God. The other important sign given to Israel to set them apart from all other nations, was the act of circumcision. Both were for Israel only.

From the time of Israel's exodus out of Egypt, they learned which day was the actual Sabbath: Exodus 16:25-27, when they found no manna on the ground on that day. Ever since then, the count was on: 6 days work - 1 day rest, right up to the time of Jesus when He observed the same Sabbath, indeed He did 'work' in it, saying that the Sabbath was created for man & not the other way around.

So the Sabbath was a specific day of rest for the Jews. And it could fall on that day as well, or any other day, for non-Jews. The important point was that man took the day off to cease from his labours for both physical & spiritual recuperation. Where this observance becomes a problem for Christians, is the compulsion by some that we too are bound to a Jewish Saturday Sabbath, & by extension, full obedience to the Law, which none could keep. This Law was not a sign to Christians but to the Jew who was under the Law. Hear what Paul says pertaining to the Law & the Christian: Romans 3:19-22; Galatians 3:21-25; Galatians 4:21-26; Galatians 5:16-18.

If the Christian then sets aside Sunday, the Lord's Day ( Revelation 1:10) as a day of rest & worship, he fulfils the need for both. If he chooses any other day as a rest day, does it matter to the Lord? Colossians 2:16,17. If one believes that the keeping of the Sabbath does matter to the Lord, then he shows a misunderstanding of the Law engraven in stones & the Law of the Life-giving Spirit ( Romans 8:2).

    I have a question

My problem is that I came across the Hebrews 10:26-31 and had thoughts that christ blood is unclean. So now I have thoughts that i regarded Christ's blood unclean and it will not be forgiven me. I am concerned what if I did that. I want Jesus in my life and don't want to be outside of God's grace. So i worry if I regarded such a thing. Do you have a advice, what do you think about it?

Assuming that your coded word can mean, 'reference' (to the end of time), we cannot be sure about Damascus' situation in the last days. Isaiah 17:1 declares that Damascus will be destroyed & verse 3 links it to Ephraim. This prophecy was fulfilled in c. 732 BC when the Assyrians attacked the city of Aram (see 2 Kings 16:5-9 for this account): King Ahaz of Judah sent messengers to the King of Assyria for help & deliverance from the invasion by the King of Syria (at Aram). The Assyrian king complied, attacked Damascus & captured it. And the King of Aram (Rezin) was subsequently killed.

So in one sense the destruction of Damascus was completed, but we know that Damascus was later rebuilt & became quite an influential city in New Testament times, becoming a flourishing major cultural centre with numerous synagogues and a large Jewish community. So there is no more destruction foretold of the city in the Bible, but one could expect that it would figure in the last days as the Anti-Christ sets up his throne in Jerusalem & that whole region will be subservient to him or else face his wrath. Though certainly that region, along with Damascus will suffer under God's Anger in the days of the Great Tribulation. In that case, the prophecy against Damascus is yet to see its ultimate fulfilment.

When I believe I know how God can work and what He will or won't do or what is even realistic and possible based off of my experience and understanding of the world I am actually learning on that understanding. One must discard what their senses, knowledge and experience tells them is possible for that is the knowledge and understanding of man. Instead know that anything is possible for our Father regardless of what we have been taught. He did drop meat from the sky and produced bread on the ground and brought water from rocks for the Israelites while they traveled through the wilderness. Those are what seem to be extremely unrealistic and impossible tasks in our eyes yet for God they were delivered daily as if no problem. If God wanted me could produce a brand new vehicle out of thin air and drop it in your driveway if He chose to do so regardless of what you may understand to possible. Place no limitations on God and what he can or will do and be amazed at the wonders He will reveal to you.

    Good Morning.

I have just woken up, and read Those precious inspirational verses and I thank God and His Beloved Son Jesus Christ. I am inspired by your diligence and commitment to the verse of the day. Let me begin with stating I am a welder by trade non the less I read God's word and study as best as I can.i pray for God's Holy Spirit to lead me into all truth.my question is this when the Heavens and the earth were created in 6 days God created the Heavens and the earth and on the 7 the day God rested from His work

..can you even try to imagine or fathom how God did creat the Heavens and the earth and specifically put aside one day ."The 7 th day Sabbath try to imagine the awesome event and the Adam and Eve were created and they were commanded to do the same to rest on the Sabbath day.now I cannot even try to explain the importance of the 7th day Sabbath .A simple analogy ,when a person is born can he change his birthdate to another day and if so why would he do so in the first place ? Fact is it can't be done and has never been done. So the same with creation .so why would God authorise the ,7th day to be substituted with the first day of the week as the IST day Sabbath the day of rest.there a verse in the Bible God says not one dot or tittle shall be changed in the Bible. Could you please give me your view point on the Sabbath. ,and may I ask further questions regarding the 7 the day Sabbath.

    Kind Regards

    Rodney Edwards

Im new to Jesus Christ and my mom was penticostle growing up later she became disabled and our family become so apart and angry at the world i am now 24 years old and i accepted Jesus when i was 23 years old, a couple months from today. There are so many spiritual battles i been going through including lust but i am trying so hard to be the best wife i can be as well as a woman of god. I live with my husband who is having a tougher time and having more spiritual battles than me he is lazy and he loses so much motivation to read the bible and to work. I tried so much with him and i dont know what next to do except trying to push him to god like he pushed me. By the way he is the one who helped me accept Jesus and as a woman with faith i have to as an obligation to god see this task through! I need advice what can i do when a man doesn't obey god! I know everyone's salvation is independent but that doesn't mean we have to be selfish and not help others especially our fellow sinners. Should i keep pushing him or let him fall? Maybe God needs to pick him up from his fall?
