After we believe and accept the Gift of forgiveness; we take steps to work out our salvation, with joy: also fear and trembling.
Satan doesn't want us to Feel Free. He comes immediately to ACCUSE us of sins past, present and next week. It'll keep happening until our faith in Jesus gets up off the floor and counters satan With Our Newborn FAITH in the finished work of Jesus. Satan always tempts us to listen to voices that accuse it wasn't enough. We even accuse ourselves! That is the flesh. It is NOT faith. fAITH stands up and screams, "I am the righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus."

16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; CEASE to do evil;
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Many people are easily confused (satan is the Author of Confusion), because as newborn Christians we still act sinful, Until we begin to absorb into our spirit, the Bible truths. The Life of Jesus. His shed blood over all of our sins: past, present, future.
When sin happens, repent from the heart, and forgive yourself. Don't give up. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you; warn you when you are getting off course. Obey His promptings.
Study the strength and wisdom of Jesus through the Gospels. He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Revelation). He is your faith.

Except for exceptional circumstances, (such as: Matthew 1:18.19, where Joseph was entitled to call off the betrothal to Mary because of her presumably being unfaithful, he was then visited by the Angel of the Lord to confirm to him that Mary's pregnancy was from the Lord & not because of any fornication), a betrothal was binding & could not be annulled.
From Genesis 1:2 - ...darkness was over the surface of the deep... This verse does make it look like there was a created world which then was covered by something (perhaps ice or water) and then at a future time we read the quoted verse about "the surface of the deep".
The Lord in His mercy has not given to us information about the earth before Genesis. That does NOT mean there was nothing before then. It simply means it is not for us to know now. So to answer your question: Yes, there could have been floods before Noah's flood.
The best thing to do is to love the Lord Jesus with all your heart; then, one day you will see Him, and at that time you can ask Him whatever you want.

v19: by this self-same Spirit, Christ went & preached to the spirits in prison. The reason for Peter to bring up this matter is as a lead-in to the next verses on water baptism. So, as Jesus preached to the spirits bound from the days of Noah, & as Noah was saved on the Ark on water, so our baptism in water (as the saving water under the Ark) also now also saves us (not by washing away sins but of an answer of a good conscience towards God).
I realize that we generally connect Jesus' preaching to the spirits in prison as an event after his death & resurrection. But I also see the emphasis on the preaching to them at maybe some other point in time & not necessarily at the resurrection. I can't be certain though. Others may offer their opinion.
Where were these spirits? The Greek word indicates that it was a prison & those that are under guard - some see this as Hell, Hades, Sheol, but the Greek doesn't indicate that.
Who were these spirits? They were the spirits of all those who rejected God's warning about the coming flood & they continued on in their wicked living & even mocking Noah during the Ark's construction.
And what was the message? We're not told, but it could have been an announcement of the reason for their chained up plight & that eight souls were found righteous from among them, whom God had chosen to save. Or, if after the Resurrection, that those spirits & all other spirits bound there, received the announcement that Christ's death & resurrection has brought victory over sin & death. We're just not told any more, but as I said, I think this is just a side matter: the real issue in this portion of Scripture is about baptism.
Those are a lot of questions. I recommend you read a freely available book called The Exposition of the Seven Church Ages. A quick internet search will get you the link. That book which is very well and clearly written talks about the first 3 chapters of Revelations, and answers your questions better than I could.

That is a very good question. We are only saved when we are in direct contact with God. The direct contact is called the Holy Spirit. A man is only saved when he has the Holy Spirit. That is the assurance from God that we are his child, and He is our Father.
So Jesus Christ was telling Peter that after he received the Holy Spirit he is to strengthen the Church. (There could also be an allusion to how Peter was going to deny Jesus three times.)

Perhaps James 5:16 - ...confess your sins to one another...
Or 1 Peter 3:15 - ... and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you...
Or perhaps John 20:23 -...whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them...
It could be Romans 1:16 - ...I am not ashamed of the gospel...
