This chapter is essentially about the future of Israel & Jerusalem, specifically the glory that will again be theirs in Christ's Millennial Kingdom on Earth. Even though the Gentiles will be in darkness, God's Glory will be seen upon Israel (v 2). This will draw the Gentiles into God's Light (v 3) & they too, if they repent, will share in the Millennial blessings (v 5) & the nations around will brings their offerings to it (vv 6-11). But the nations that remain obstinate & reject Israel will be left to ruin (v 12). Where once Israel was hated & despised, they will be the one to be admired & drawn towards (vv 15,16). The Lord Himself will be there & there will be no more violence or mourning for Jesus will be their continual Light & Salvation (vv 18-21).
Interestingly, Isaiah 61:1 was quoted by Jesus when He was on Earth & when He ministered in the synagogue (see Luke 4:14-21). Jesus quoted that Isaiah portion, 61:1 to 2a, but He did not quote the second part of verse 2, "the day of vengeance of our God". Jesus sat down & said (in Luke 4:21), "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears", meaning, He made the claim before the Jews gathered there, that He was anointed by God to do all that God had ordained & prophesied in Isaiah 16:1 & 2 by His Coming to Earth. But for the future coming day of vengeance which will be prior to His Second Coming, culminating in the War of Armageddon, He won't come as the healer, comforter & deliverer, but to bring desolation to the world of sinners. And then comes the Millennial Era where Jesus rules from the Earth & what we read in Isaiah chapter 60.
If comments are backed up with a lot of scripture; you might be standing on quicksand.
Mishael
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Ecclesiastes 12:12
And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the Flesh.
1 Thessalonians 4:11
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
1 Corinthians 11:19
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
((My comment: that You will shine as gold))
Romans 14:18
For he that in these things serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
2 Corinthians 13:7
Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest:
See if your Church has mentoring classes.
Google, street ministry classes online; and see what all that entails. Evangelism is faith with feet. And a whole lot of scripture under the Belt of Truth.
My prayers go with you, Mishael
I didn't know who the Holy Spirit was. I had to read New Testament books to know who He is and what He is all about. I knew someone was helping me with deliverance issues. I just didn't really know it was the Holy Spirit helping me. Read the Book of John and underline Holy Spirit verses.
Read 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 which speak about tongues. Ask the Holy Spirit to Teach you about who He is, and who Jesus is. Pray for a Teachable spirit (inside of you).
Tongues is a heavenly language. It's not going to be in English. It edifies you're born again spirit. You'll hear it in your innermost being. Repeat what you hear. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you pray. Sometimes I just groan.
Certainly, pray with understanding in your human language; with understanding. Pray for people to come to Jesus and be saved. In no time at all your prayer life will bloom and produce fruits. Be assured that the Holy Spirit is undertaking your growing up in Jesus.
Get some place quiet and listen for the still small voice.
Anything the Holy Spirit speaks will be a healing salve on your heart. If a "voice' speaks and it scares you badly.... that was Satanic. Just say, it is written: get thee behind me, Satan! In Jesus Name!!
Gods blessings on you in your search for all He has purposed for you. Stand strong in the power of His might. Find wisdom in Proverbs.
Mishael
- I would like prayers to find a job, restore my marriage, regain health and be a good Christian. Be blessed !
This was another great event that took place apart from Jesus' Sacrifice & His Resurrection. Right at the time of Jesus' death, at the evening oblation, the officiating priest would have seen this spectacular event of the heavy veil (curtain) that separated the Holiest Place from the Holy Place in the Temple, was torn apart from top to bottom. If man had cut it, it would probably be cut from bottom to top, but God showed that He did it, from the top downwards.
This is significant for you & me as it is one of God's declarations that the Work of the Cross (that Work that was planned from the beginning of time for mankind's sins), was finally accomplished with the death of His Son Jesus Christ. His death not only was Jesus being our substitute to pay for our sins, but also averted God's Anger against us sinners. So the rending of the veil indicated that God also opened up the way for those who believe on Jesus, both Jew & Gentile, to now have access direct to God without the need for a priest to intercede or make sacrifice or oblation. Roman Catholics still go to their priest for confession, but the Way has been opened for us to approach God, through His Son, to talk to Him, to confess our sins, & to enjoy His Presence in our lives. Had Christ not died, had the veil not be rent, had not Jesus arisen from the grave, we would still be in our sins & stand guilty before God. Jesus' Sacrifice for us was truly great & for eternity & so we ever remain grateful to Him & growing in love & faith for Him Who has done it all for us.
1. Are you answering a call of God to serve or is it something you desire from your heart to do to serve the Lord?
2. Are you looking to serve in your own country or go into cross-cultural ministry in another country?
3. Is your calling, expertise, or interests lie in evangelism, literature, medical, translation work, other roles?
4. Are you prepared to support yourself/family, or trust the Lord for support from the Church & others? Or, even a tent-maker position (i.e. you do secular work to earn money but involve yourself more in serving others in another culture).
5. Is this for a short term or long term commitment?
6. Are you looking to use the ministry to learn & develop your gifts, or are you already a serving member in a Church, who wants to diversify & meet a ministry's needs?
Those are some questions that come to mind. I was in my early 30's when the Lord clearly spoke to me whilst in prayer, calling me to serve with a particular mission. That was a faith mission (we had to trust the Lord to provide for our needs) & it took me to France, the U.K. & finally to Pakistan to work among Muslims & also to build up the Church there. That didn't last long (less than two years), as our work was very forthright amongst Muslims, & we were soon arrested, etc. & thrown out of the country. Will you be prepared to face persecution & physical harm if it comes to you for the Gospel's sake?
Entering full-time work in the Lord's harvest field is a decision that cannot be taken lightly. We are all called to be His witnesses just where we're at, but much prayer is needed for a separate dedicated ministry & that you sense the Lord directing you in this way. There are many Mission agencies who need workers to share in spreading the Gospel to the unreached or unevangelized: you will need to contact them to learn more. Every blessing as you wait upon the Lord.
The two chief areas of disagreement we have, concern the Deity of Jesus Christ & Eternal Punishment of the sinner. The JWs assert that Jesus Christ was a created Being, & of Eternity, that the sinful dead disappear into non-existence while only the righteous will have part in the Millennial Kingdom.
On these two points particularly, I get passionately excited about, since belief in the JW understanding of these two doctrines (Person of Jesus Christ & of Last Things), I find that the JW's position is untenable when put under the spotlight of Scripture & God's Character of Holiness & Justice. If all sinners just disappeared into a state of non-existence, then why the need of Christ & His salvation? If to only grant us a hope of being with God in Paradise, then this brings little comfort of fleeing from sin's penalty of rejection & eternal fiery judgement. Our singular hope should be to flee the wrath of God because of our sins & into the Arms of a Merciful Saviour for salvation, eternal rest & worship to Him, Who first loved us enough to save us from Satan's domain.
The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD'S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. ( Psalm 11:4-7)
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. ( Proverbs 4:23)
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ( Matthew 5:8)
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? ( 2 Corinthians 6:14-15)
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. (Ephesians5:11)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ( Philippians 4:8)
