But to experience life on Earth & death, he took on the nature of men & not angels (v16). And this death was necessary not only for payment for our sins but a complete identification with us (vv 15, 18). So verse 14 tells us that just as we are 'flesh & blood', so Jesus took on this type of body of flesh, that by dying for us, the power of the Devil might also be destroyed.
While mankind (Israel) was subservient to the Law, they were required to obey it but had no power to gain deliverance from its penalty & Satan's influence to keep them powerless & bound. Christ's death made full payment for our sins, made us acceptable to God & His Blood & Spirit in us gives us victory over Satan, releasing Satan's power over us. However, as we give into sin, we allow Satan to gain a foothold into our lives. And those supposed 'Christians' who engage in rampant sin, show that they count Jesus' Sacrifice & Power over Satan as naught, & in fact have invited Satan to have control over them rather than having the Power & Efficacy of Jesus' Blood over them.
However, your comment about God being both good & evil concerned me. Ordinarily, I could pass this off as a person's use of the word 'evil' may not be what I'm thinking of. But that comment triggered in my mind, one of my last conversations with an uncle before he passed away some years after we talked. He too used that phrase about God being both good & evil, yet his was an angry, fist in the air blast against God, because of certain 'evils' that had come to him through his life. Even when talking about this with him, about his accusation against God & that God is not a God of evil nor can He do evil, my uncle was adamant it was so till his death.
Your Mother's death was long & very painful & heartbreaking to read. My Mother too died, suffering horribly for two years with lung cancer. Even after our family's pleadings with God & cries from me, her 14 yr old son, did not move God's Hand to spare her. Why didn't God listen - is He evil for taking an innocent life? I had to learn early on that God wanted her Home & there would be events in the future that would fall into place - into His bigger Plan.
All I can share here is that God does allow things to happen to our lives or loved ones for reasons unknown to us - this does not make Him evil, it shows us that He is God alone, our Creator, the One Who is entitled to do what He wants with His creation, & in His Plans He does what is right & best for us. We can't see the end of it all - we just feel the present disappointment & sorrow. But in our ignorance of Him, He requires a complete trust & faith in His Work & that "we (should) know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." ( Romans 8:28). The Lord strengthen you.
So Mercurius, or Hermes was a god of travel, commerce, communications, eloquence: to which Paul was likened for his speech. And Jupiter, or Zeus was the king god of the sky, thunder, lightning, law & justice.
Other Greek gods: Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hermes, Dionysus, etc. These names I gleaned from the Web. And these gods would also be included in their religious & family practise.
And to your point: "where I am spiritually, without sin in the present or future, as after salvation I have not sinned". If I could develop that: if 'sinlessness' is indeed your present joyful position, then would you understand if I could describe your spiritual state as that of Adam & Eve before their fall? They were pure, sinless; had they remained that way, they would not have faced spiritual & physical death, as both these are products of sin. They would have lived on eternally in an incorrupt world.
You are now sinless: would physical death finally overcome you, as it would for us? Of course, the Rapture (though I understand the a-millennial position of the Church of God) might prevent death from happening to you, but in biblical reality, you should as a sinless man never experience death. For the rest of us, death is a sure thing as in spite of our new justified position in Christ, our past sins that have corrupted our nature & our bodies guarantee our physical death.
If you should say that you would still experience physical death because of the past corruption of the body, then that only shows the Truth of Rom 6:23, that the sin nature is still evident (maybe, not reigning in you), & the end of it must be a physical death; the spiritual death being averted through Jesus Christ. So with the removal of sin & the sin nature, there must of necessity be no further corruption of the physical body leading to physical death.
David, I see that we are considering the same precious Scriptures yet with a different understanding. Of course, this is not the medium one can use for a detailed exposition of the Scriptures, so we're limited to a proper development of what was written & how we are required to understand it. Suffice to say, in respect of this matter, I see Romans 6:1, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?" as the thrust of Paul's discourse. There were those in the Church who had a warped view of God's Grace (for past, present & future sins). Since God's Grace abounded towards them ( Rom 5:20, 21), then "why worry about sin, as all sin gets forgiven under God's abounding Grace". Paul had to refute that with Rom 6:1 & following verses. It is from here we disagree, as you understand that our "body of sin destroyed" (6:6), "freed from sin" (6:7), "dead to sin (6:11), etc. are all referring to both past, present & future removal of the sins & the old nature. I understand Paul was referring to the Law that only pointed to the fact of our sin, & that Law was now removed/cancelled by virtue of Jesus' death, thus enabling the believer to stand before God as righteous & justified based on the Perfect Sacrifice & no longer to be a servant of sin (which is of the Law).
Then in the Rom 7 passage which you believe speaks of Paul's 'previous life' before God, which has merit, except as said before, in verse 25, after all his introspection & abhorrence of the old nature, he exclaims (now, in the present), that through Jesus Christ he serves God (the new Law), but in the flesh (the old nature) he serves the Law of sin (the old Law). For us to include this verse 25 with the preceding verses as Paul's witness of the old life makes this verse meaningless if we're to keep the same 'past tense'.
can you elaborate and clarify why?
thank you
When I was a very sinful person I experienced horrific things I never wish on anyone. Was it God himself? I don't believe so. I believe God allowed these demons to present themselves due to my sins. With what I saw and felt I can't even contemplate nor even want to imagine what hell would feel like.
I don't blame God. I don't think God is evil. I'm thankful he has shown me things that have changed my life and brought me closer to Him.
I hope you are able to change your view or understanding. Telling people God is evil is not using the correct lense.
10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our TRANSGRESSIONS from us.
13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembers that we are DUST.
15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him (HONOR), and his righteousness unto children's children;
18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
Comment on verse 12
As far as East is to West is an INFINITE line.
That's how far God throws our sins. He remembers them no more.
It does not give us a license to sin willfully.
Mishael
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
**17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
If God is the Alpha and the Omega: He saw our sins already. But we live inside the Law of Time.
I find it quite humbling to be standing upon the precipice of sin and I remember___God already knows which way Im going to choose. What do I do now?
I use my own freedom to choose right; not wrong, to not sin. To Repent.
Mishael
It's just kind of a big thumbs up from God; that he's here; he's involved in our lives.
Try to think about life and what does God have in store for your life? No matter what we go through; He's there with us. He has plans for us. It's up to us to discover what's next.
Mishael
I know your grief is still fresh; your heart still freshly wounded.
I pray the Holy Spirit would comfort you and let you see that your family is happy where they are.
God says in his Word, all souls are Mine. They are with Him.
People laugh at me because I watch movies. TV not so much. Someone gave me The Shack movie and I was able to get all that pain I was holding in; out.
We've been through this with you. Sometimes the Law works to grind down those painful edges. God is not afflicting you. If you surrender your testimony (that you've lived), he will bring people your way that need to hear how you got through it.
Recently in the prayer request room I met a woman who had lost her mother. She hasn't been able to smile or go places. She feels like a prisoner in an empty house. I told her what I finally did (for me).
I confessed to the Lord I was lonely. Please send me some new Christian friends? I went to church and Joined the singles group, my age. I met others who were on the same life path. It was nice just to share and listen. To laugh again; to cry with others. Have others to go bowling with.
I started to eat better and to sleep without crying first. I looked up in the sky one night and felt like God was there too. I knew from scripture that Jesus is seated at God's right hand, making intercession for all saints (me too).
I experienced that enveloping love and care. I didn't think I had anymore tears, but I found some. Love heals us. God is Love.
Don't believe The Accuser's (satan) lies that God is evil or mean. That's satans personality. He hates God and everyone that God loves.
Just keep your eyes on Jesus. He took your pain.
40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
