Hello Chris, One must have a complete understanding of why ALL crimes are not sin... This is the reason Jesus could not be crucified according to the Covenant Law because he had done nothing worthy of sin so the Jews had him crucified under Roman Law, the law of the land. Paul was an expert in both Covenant Law and Roman Law, two completely different laws... Sin did not apply to Roman Law... Sin applies only to the Covenant Law that God gave to Moses to give to the Israelites... If one believes the Covenant Law that was given to the Israelites that defines sin, applies to them, that means that person has never believed in the finished work of the cross for their self...

In other words, this is the reason one must have a complete understanding of why their was a need for a Savior and why their Savior is the Lord Jesus Christ..

Everyone that has been freed for the Covenant Law, which is the Law of Sin and Death, has been freed via their belief that they were freed at the cross and that "sin" no longer applies to them...

However that does not mean that "crime" does not apply because one is subject to the law of the land in which they live and if they break the law of the land they become a criminal and should pay the penalty that is required by the law of their land for that crime... Lynn :)

Joe, yes, Rom 13:1-7 does refer to the governments & legal system that have rule & authority by God to administer the necessary laws for the protection & welfare of society. And the apostle Paul states that we are to be subject to them because they are divinely appointed or even permitted by God to perform those functions.

But your question & this passage raises other issues which may be perplexing to those who may be subject to the directives & laws of their governments that are actually "a terror to good works or don't appear to be God's minister executing wrath upon the evil". Of course, in our musings, we are reminded that Paul wrote all this whilst under the authority of the Roman government, which was renowned for its ruthless wickedness. So we have no excuse to debate this issue when our own governments appear to fall far short of God's Standards or of Paul's own instructions to us to obey such systems.

So, in light of Scripture, I believe we still need to obey, or sometimes suffer, under our governments, as they are appointed by God, however knowing that most governments are godless by nature, we have to decide whether there is conflict by what they require and what God requires. So, I believe that in spite of this Romans passage which can be troubling to some who are under repressive & godless governments, believers are still in a position to obey them & come under their rule, yet oppose governmental directives & laws where they clearly oppose God's Directives to us. I personally find this Romans passage one of those difficult portions of Scripture to fully reconcile.

What "matters of the flesh" are you thinking of? All 'animal' species intrinsically know what it takes to reproduce its own kind, so maybe you're thinking of some other matter.

All crimes are sin as the Bible determines. However, our governments don't like the word 'Sin' (it would be too religious & has an 'undesirable connotation') so we instead have the word 'crime'. So if someone commits murder, a righteous government would say: "a grievous sin has been committed before God & man" but you'll never hear that said.

Hi Lynn, I've never heard anyone say it's ok to kill people, especially from a Bible-reader, that its not immoral and not a sin, so this is a first. So, if this were true that civil law is the only thing making killing wrong then it would be totally fine to kill outside of a country's borders and laws? So its 100% fine for a Christian to harm others as long as there's no civil law where you are, such as in open waters, or on a remote island, or in space? Even most atheists and satan worshippers believe killing is immoral. The Bible does not support this idea and one would have to ignore a mountain of scripture to cherry pick something and massively distort it to even come remotely close to justifying this, however, I'm open to seeing your supporting scripture for this idea, because Jesus directly said he didn't destroy the law in Matthew 5:17. Paul still wrestled with sin and tried very hard to avoid it and this was after Jesus's resurrection, if there was no such thing as sin then Paul wouldn't have said all that in Romans 7. God bless.

His death took away the sin of the world.. there are only 2 commandments, Love the Lord Thy God with all Thy Heart and all Thy mind and all Thy soul, and Love one another... On these 2 commandments rest ALL the Law and the Prophets...

If a person kills/murders another deliberately, that is a crime, not a sin... The crime committed is judged according to the Law of the land in which one lives... Lynn

Please can everyone pray very hard for me. I'm 40 this year my sister was 30 my best friend is 50 my uncle Michael 60. My best friend is catholic and a heavy goth.her birthday is Halloween day. Her daughters is Christmas Day. Last June she went a bit weird and spray painted everything in her house black she also started with odd behaviour towards me. My uncle the 1 I speak to on my mums side of family she has died and she has 13 brothers and sisters and every one of the others are very bad people. Started telling me odd things it turns out I have a huge inheritance and my bad family trying to kill me. I went to police etc. I haven't worked out yet where it is because I have unraveled a huge family lie even my dads side of family are lying too me so I can trust no one. They are still after me but I have made us safe. My dad was catholic and he hated it so did his dad. My mum was Christian and she was a very good one. Me and my sister was told we didn't get christened so we could choose our own faith. All my life I hated it. I always believed in god always wore a crucifix. That was a lie I'm christened and my sister is catholic. All the birth certs have been tampered with. I do not have a surname on mine at all I'm just called Sarah Louise. It goes on and on. I lost faith years ago. I never told my mum and dad though. I re-found my faith in may when I nearly died. I'm reading the black family bible which has been handed down from family since 1881. My daughter told me a spirit gave her a message for me to look in the King James Bible and I would find the money now my daughter also said don't talk to your best friend she is a demon and so is my sister. She loves these people she has told me things she couldn't possibly know so I believe her. How many times in history has he become an angle of light and tricked someone, Jesus warned us about , the wolf. Angle of light. The false prophet. The anti Christ . The leaven of the Pharisee . The son of perdition. And so on.

My thoughts are that Abraham was probable tricked. Almighty God saved him from doing the deed because he had been tricked by that False God which many people in the world today are still chasing after. ( You will not be tested beyond what you can bear but he will make the way out for you so you are able bear it. ) Satan has tried to distroyed the Lords purpose and has failed every time and his end is near ,...... Down to the earth with great anger knowing he has but a short period of time.

Chris. I thank you again for helping me understand better some of the areas of contention in the Bible. I have been thinking of these things for some time now. I remember what Paul said, who wrote a letter to the Corinthians at 13:12 he writes something a bit odd. "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. It would be so much easier if the text would just say exactly what it means and rule out any other possibility. I can only assume that God has made it this way because he wants us to investigate his word a little further, to study it better. I can also assume, now matter how well it is explained, there will always be someone who will still see something different in the text and of course we have the deceiver who will cleverly mix the words as he attempts to confuse and deceive people. You have helped me realize my gut feeling was not wrong.

In the light of what our Lord God said thet with evil things he wouldn't test anyone and the law that was given to Noah about killing anyone, and the demand that Satan made that the hedge should be taken away from Job so that he could test him ,and Job said "should I not take what is good from Almighty God and not what is bad also" and he was given a scolding by God for saying that.

Also that the sacrifice should be on Mount Maria thus desecrating the place that the Lord God had designated for his temple and the land that he took as his portion for the seed to be take care of that produce Jesus the messiah (as Satan had won his right to be ruler of the word over Adam sin )

Mishael: there's no controversy to what you read. I read Genesis and Revelation at a snails pace. Genesis sometimes jumps forward; sometimes it adds more information, or points backward.

(See the abc notes?). It adds more info; or it fast forwards to fulfillment; or it will point to a prophesy about Jesus, etc.

Before too long, you'll be teaching. I always ask the Holy Spirit to show me what I am reading.
