Mark 1:23 Christ confronts and exposes Satan. Christ finds the evil one in the congregation of the temple. There are many who profess they know him ,but when actually confronted by the truth will run for the nearest exit. That is the effect the true word of God will have on a sinner, Not unlike the demon that resided in this individual. Christ moves first in the direction of the church, even the house of Israel. Finding the prince of darkness residing in the hearts of men. Hidden as it were in the very synagogue. Satan cannot do anything when uncovered by the word of God. He knows who God is, He knows that He is the God of the most high! That Jesus is the Holy one of God!

Notice that the children of Israel are depending on an "It" to save them. Meaning the Arc of the Covenant. Notice that didn't work too well! It was not until they saw the errors of their ways and ask the Almighty God to save them did things turn around. I think this is a good message for today. We as a nation put too much emphasis on the "It's" of the world to secure us. Social Security, Insurance, Retirement, 401K's, etc. We need to lift our eyes upon the Lord and Savior and ask him to heal our land and put in the minds of our leaders to praise the God of all creation. Then, "HE" not "IT" will save us and heal our land.

What it says to me is what we are living in today. Lots of people God calling home. We came in this world by ourselves, if your not a twin. The good person will be taken and the bad left to get themselves right or continue to live in hell. It used to be my moma and dad now its just mom God called him to rest until that final day comes.

    Dear Anna,

One cannot be sure God did not send Trump to guide this country at this time ...didn't God send Paul (the persecutor and killer of Christians) to become an apostle and to preach to the Gentiles?

Jesus speaks about not judging and accusing others. In the example below many wanted to accuse a woman for adultery.

    John 8:7

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

    God Bless.

Larry, I've also thought over this dilemma as well over the years, and the only answer I can offer is that in fact we all suffer in one form or another. I know you specifically mentioned physical pain & suffering & that is one part of the whole. Sometimes, emotional pain & mental anguish can come under the same umbrella of physical suffering that each one faces in life. And their severity can be as harsh & painful as the physical.

You may be thinking of a special instance of some going through the mill with pain while others appear to be free from it. As you may agree, since we are all sinners & suffer the effects of it (whether in the physical, spiritual, emotional or mental spheres), I don't believe that anyone can sail through this life without pain in some form. It is true that some do suffer far more than others, but all do suffer & then finally have pain's last stab at us at the cessation of this life.

The Psalmist, Asaph, in Psalm 73 spoke of a similar dilemma, "Why do the wicked go through life without pain (v 5), speak against God (vv 9, 11) & live in prosperity (v 12)?" His answer: "Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors." (vv 18, 19). He saw their end (their eternal suffering) as far worse as opposed to those (who suffer in this life) but have their trust in the Lord. So pain experienced in life to the Psalmist was transitory - the pain of being estranged from God after death is eternal.

Hello Mike, So are you saying that according to what Jesus said here in Matthew 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

that these ones you are calling dogs, were some of the lost sheep of the house of israel? Why would Jesus have stayed with them for 2 days after speaking to the woman at the well? Lynn

OK, so Jesus is the rock. But that was not my point. Why is it that the Bible, written several decades after the crucifixion of Jesus, somehow insert verse 16:9, when Mark neglects this utterance. My own hypothesis is that the new Christians needed some justification for their preaching. What better way than to claim Jesus granted them this authority? Jesus never said it which is why Mark left it out.

Having just read Mark, Mathew 16:9 raised a red flag to me.

It's only through Faith in Jesus Christ can anyone stand righteously before a Holy God, anything else is works. If the Law could save us Jesus didn't need to die for our sins. The Law was perfect, it shows us our need for a Savoir. God had already plan man's redemption. The Law is like looking at your face in a mirror and seeing it need to be wash and no matter how long you stare your face remains the same, until you get soap and water to wash the mess remains. Jesus resurrection power through Faith in His finish work is what every human being needs to cleanse away our sins. All has fallen short so we all need the resurrection power of the one who died and rose again for our justification. He became sin for us who knew no sin. I'm so glad for the Grace of God. He gave me what I don't deserve. The Law was our School master to bring us to Christ. Galatians 2:16 ; 3:11-29. Thank you Lord, for all that is given to us, when we agree with you that we need to be born again. Fill us Lord with the Fruit of the Spirit so we do not walk after and in the flesh, in Jesus wonderful name, Amen.

That was quite a testimony of yours which I greatly rejoiced in reading, yet saddened for all the grief you had to go through as a teenager & as a foster child without the love & nurturing that you should have been your expectation & right. Many of these kids can get quite emotionally scarred as they have no permanent home & no guarantee of real love. The fact that the Lord's Hand was upon you from that earliest stage in your life, even by bringing you into a Christian home to hear & then believe the Gospel, again gives each one outside of Christ a hope of gaining eternal life. And I can see from your comments on this Site, that you have been wonderfully transformed ( Rom 12:2) & mature in Christ & in understanding His Word. And that "gut feeling" you had is very often the Holy Spirit alerting us to something that doesn't match up with Scripture. But again, we don't judge the preacher, rather go back into the Word & learn what God, not man, says about the matter.

To your other comment: yes, that's a great modern & amusing rendering of 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, though of course, the apostle Paul used Love as the preeminent 'Fruit' of the Spirit in the midst of all the 'Gifts' of the Spirit bestowed upon the Church. All His Gifts are useful for the building up of the Church, but if Love for one another & those outside her walls is absent, then all the Gifts manifested are rendered impotent. So, to use this as an example in Paul's accusation of the Corinthians, he was essentially saying that to use the Gift of Tongues without Interpretation may have left a few excited about its manifestation, but left most bereft of knowledge that God had for them. This in itself demonstrated that Love, Agape Love, was not the basis for use of this Gift, but self-gratification & self-edifying & not for the blessing of the Church ( 1 Cor 14:4-5).

Page 2 (which I don't think appeared when sending Page 1)

Yet, I don't hold as some do, that all the Gifts (at least those such as Tongues, Healing & Miracles) have ceased. 1 Cor 13:8-10 is usually given in support that all these are no more since "that which is perfect comes": probably they're referring to the complete Word of God or the full establishment of Christ's Church when those 'spectacular' Gifts are no longer warranted. I'm not convinced about such a stance as I just don't have enough from the Word to support this. The verse could well speak of what we know & do "in part" now will one day in the future be fully known when there will be no further need of such manifestations. I do admit that we see a lot of false proofs, but can we say with all certainty that the Spirit has ceased altogether in His demonstration of His Power to the Church & the World? Some have even attributed these manifestations to the work of the Devil; this is very sad & grievous as the caution for 'blaspheming' e.g. Matthew 12:31, is when some applied the works of the Holy Spirit of God to Satan. Apart from one example that I heard of, where an actual unlearned language was spoken for the blessing of the Church, but the brother was soon pulled back down as there was in their midst one who actually spoke & understood that language. The message was satanic which blasphemed the Deity rather than glorifying him. But we need to take care as to how we view such manifestations & also in understanding the Scriptures.

It is necessary for an individual to be born again to enter God's Kingdom, it takes a gracious and miraculous act-completely on God's part-to close the gap between Him and those He calls ( John 6:44).God graciously gives life by His Spirit. Paul writes, "For He says to Moses, 'I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.' So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy" ( Romans 9:15-16).
