The other matter is about the forgetting of the sin. Just as a sinner leaves behind his sins 'at the foot of the Cross' & these are no longer held as a charge against him, yet he will always have memory of those past sins, but endeavour by the Spirit's Life in him not to pursue them again. Does God also forget our sins when He forgives? He does in the sense of never holding our past sins against us, but He knows that we are still sinners 'saved by His Grace' & indeed, He wouldn't be God if He could never recall our previous sinful life. Heb 10:17: "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." Though this verse speaks about the time when those Jews would turn to Jesus for salvation instead of obedience to the Law & Sacrifices, it tells us that God will no longer remember their (& our) sins, or, that He will never bring them up against us: He has wiped our slate clean & we have been declared 'not guilty'.

Brian, I believe that the Christian's response to someone who has erred against you is not only based on his/her repentance to you of that error. It would be wonderful if that person would recognize his error & be humble enough to seek your forgiveness & restoration of the relationship: your forgiving him would be easy & comforting to both.

But if he/she did not come in repentance, & as you also suggest, not only that but also continued to sin against you, how should you & we respond? I believe that our forgiveness is based on what God has done for us in Christ: He has freely forgiven us & we should also do likewise. I realize that God requires our repentance first, but that means that He waits for our acknowledgement that we have sinned against Him & we are convicted & torn by our wickedness. He waits that we recognize that we can be forgiven only through faith in the finished work at the Cross & in nothing else.

So, our repentance must be essential for God's forgiveness to be given us. Whereas, our response to someone who has sinned against us doesn't necessarily require their repentance first, because our forgiving him/her is simply based on Christ's Love in us to forgive them unequivocally, whether or not he repents. This is the heart that is touched by the Holy Spirit: that we have the spirit of forgiveness to all.

    On MATTHEW 9:16,17

By nature every person is born in sin through the sinful seed of their natural fathers and conditioned therein ( 1 Peter 1:23). For that reason and in order to become a son of God, which are born of God, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, a person must be 'Born Again' ( John 1:12,13; 3:3-7; 1 John 3:9; 5:4).

By attending a man-made institution a few hours a week ( Acts 7:48; 17:24), does not mean that a person can make a claim that they are followers of Christ and 'Born Again'. That is falsehood, as in truth they follow after an image of a false god and a false Christ ( Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; Gal. 4:8; Rev. 12:9). This is how Satan has transformed Himself into an angel of light ( 2 Cor. 11:13-15).

Only through 'True Repentance' will God be able to reveal Himself, and adopt you as His sons and daughters ( Rom. 8:15,23; 2 Cor.6:18; Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:5; Hebr. 12:5; 1 John 3:1).

The word 'Repent' means a lot more than what people by nature have been conditioned to believe. It is the key principle of all the teachings of Jesus Christ and the axiom (basis) of the Word of God and a prerequisite and primary requirement for the salvation of mankind. It actually means the changing of spirits - to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God ( Acts 26:18).

For a better understanding and the 'spiritual truth' of what it means to repent, and learn how and by whom mankind has been deceived ( Rev. 12:9), and what people must do to be reunited with the true and living God, we invite you to seek Him according to the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive ( John 14:17).

You need not that any man teach you ( Isaiah 54:13; 6:45; 1 John 2:27), It is only by revelation of God that you will come to know Christ ( Daniel 12:4,9; Amos 3:7; Matthew 16:17; Luke 2:26; Romans 16:25; 1 Cor. 2:10; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 3:3,5; Rev. 1:1). It is a narrow way that leadeth unto 'Life', and few there be that find it ( Matthew 7:14).

The Old Covenant encompassed the Whole Law completely, which Jesus fulfilled (both in obedience & according to the prophecies about Him). For us to now claim obedience to the Old Covenant & also receive the blessings of the New just cannot work: we're either depending on obedience to the Law to save us, therefore nullifying & despising Christ's Cross, or we give no heed to the old time-bound Law & put our faith in the glorious Work at the Cross, declaring that the Law (indeed) kills, but the Spirit gives Life: "not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, which glory was to be DONE AWAY: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?" ( 2 Cor 3:6-8).

For me, it's not "a gigantic stretch of the imagination to apply this also to cancel the 4th commandment". I 'cancel' out not only the fourth but also the other nine: laws given ONLY to the Jews only for a time & purpose. But for all, both Jew & Gentile, who come under the shadow of the Cross, we attain unto a higher 'set of laws': "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:2. And as we read in the Gospels, when Jesus spoke of the type of obedience that God requires, it always went well beyond the limits of the Ten Commandments. Hence, keeping the Sabbath holy went beyond its appointed day & requirements, it pointed to the perfect rest both believing Jew & Gentile could enjoy IN CHRIST, & not in the regulated Law. If one believes that it's necessary to strictly maintain the Sabbath of old, then we demonstrate a defective understanding of the whole Plan of God in sending us His Son & do despite to the Scriptures & that which was revealed to His servant, the apostle Paul.

    Every blessing.

Thank you for your response, Bro. Dan. So, as I gather, you do not make a distinction between the Old & New Covenants (i.e. the Law that was given & required of men (Jews) pre-Cross and what was accomplished & hence required of men (Jew & Gentile) post-Cross). You have well quoted Jesus' words & acts pertaining to the validity & obedience to the given Law and I have absolutely no problem in what He said & how you understand & apply it. The problem arises when the Cross comes to bear upon us now. The Scriptures you've shared have bearing on the Old Covenant, that which the Jews were under & Jesus clearly spoke about its validity.

Then the crucifixion took place which was much more than a payment of a penalty for our sins & a substitutionary sacrifice: it also made null & void the given Law, the whole Law, "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross" ( Col 2:14). Some suggest that this verse doesn't apply to the Ten Commandments but only to the ceremonial laws. They believe that those of us, who supposedly consider the commandments as of no consequence, are in error, but are in fact in error themselves.

"Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." Rom 7:12. There was nothing wrong or defective in the given Laws: they were simply given for a time awaiting the better covenant: "But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second." ( Heb 8:6,7).

The phrase "full armor of God" comes from Ephesians 6:13-17: "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness (the righteousness of Jesus Christ) in place,

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

The sword of the Spirit is all of the scriptures you have committed to memory.

How can we mix Holy with Profane?

I know that feeling of reluctance. It happens when you feel you do not know enough scripture to give it out with confidence. That's why it says "study to show yourself approved.." 1,2,3, John are a good place to start; then in The Book of John 3. All of the Gospels.

A lot of people set aside a certain time every day to spend 1 hour reading. Sometimes it helps to turn off tv. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you hide the Word in your heart and to help you understand what you are reading. He is your Helper. If you are born again; you were baptized in the Holy Spirit. He's with you. Try talking to Him more.

If people want to confess their sins to you, just steer them to 1 John 1:9. Jesus is their Priest.

We do this because Jesus loved us first; before we found Him and learned how to show him our love.

People see the Light and Love of Jesus, shining in your face. They may want that too.

I began to evangelize a few months after being saved. (Real rough around the edges) I was outside a bar I used to go to. Friends stumbled out the door: I had my Bible and said repent, you're all going to hell. They laughed and said...we know!! And continued to their cars. I went home dejected. Laid my head on the Bible. Jesus softly, Are you done doing it your way? I said YES SIR!!! LORD.

He showed me how to consume scripture and then how to pray. Honestly, the Holy Spirit will help you. I have had so much fun! Nobody wants to be hollered at. Jesus brings those who are ready, to us.

Jesus prayed for us in John 17. If you pray to the Lord of the Harvest, He wii lead you to those who are ready to hear.

First things first, my sister. You have a lot on your mind. Let's pray for order to be restored. Everything else will fall into place.

Put the Lord first, and the favor will follow.

It means return to your first love when you First met Jesus. The scripture is in Revelation 2:4

Just compare your life today to those first days when you asked Jesus to come in your heart. You read your Bible. You asked the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you have read. He's your Teacher, and the Spirit of Jesus; your Comforter; your Convictor when you make mistakes, your Helper. He's here for you. Just pray this prayer to return to your first Love:

Lord, after what I've read today, I don't want to allow any spirit of compromise in my life! I now understand that the doctrine of the Nicolaitans is compromise with the world. Lord, I don't want to live with one foot in the church and another foot in the world. I want to break free completely from the world and its influence so I can give myself completely to Your cause! I want to be holy, to live in a way that pleases You, and to experience Your power in my life. Today I am renewing my commitment to You all over again! I turn from the world, and I am running to You!

I pray this in Jesus' name! Amen :)

People who love each other, talk to one another every day. Open up and ask for your needs (not wants). If money, figure it down to the penny. If ideas come into your mind...it might be Jesus. Talk to Him. He listens to speech of faith. I happen to know that He likes to hear us sing and hum gospel tunes. Put him first and everything else will fall in behind him.

    Mishael

While it's not necessary to have perfect knowledge in order to be saved-justified before God-a core aspect of the gospel is a recognition of our sin. Therefore, anyone who claims to have never sinned is denying the gospel. By definition, such a person is an unbeliever. And, any believer who concludes that they no longer sin needs to be corrected.
  • Mishael - In Reply on Romans 3:4 - 5 years ago
Laurie, this is the way to be released from things which trouble your peace:

    Mark 11:25

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

How many times? Until that memory loses its power to trouble you.

I pray, that as you pray, that you will once again find your peace of mind and spirit.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Read verses 2-8. This season will come to a close if you will trust in what God says here.

It's the forgiving that makes this whole thing work. You'll not feel like doing this. It's an act of obedience and faith in Gods Word to us. Just like me, you'll wake up one day, and all that hate and discomfort of mind...will be peaceful.

This is for you, David. Malachi 3:16-17

"Then they that feared (reverence;honor) the Lord, spoke often to one another: and the Lord hearkened, and Heard it, and a Book of Remembrance was written before Him, for them that feared the Lord, and that THOUGHT upon His Name."

"And they shall be Mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my Jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son, that serves him."

Let all be well with our souls, which are open to our Lord, Jesus. God has said: all souls are Mine. You are a treasure because you reach out to Him in your prayers, every day. Say, I give you my life and love today, Lord Jesus. I look to You for my salvation.

May the Lord bless and keep you. Mishael

You are a hard case. Probably will not change your mind but Ill give it a try. Jesus died for our sins, ( yours too,) and the third day He rose from the dead. Go over there and look in his tomb, He's not there. Other books in that day record this event not only the bible. Give it a try read the bible. What gave the new christains courage to long after He was killed to go into the whole world to preach Jesus to all that would hear them. Most of the early christians was killed doing it. What makes a man do that. I would. I would lay down my life for Jesus.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur comes 10 days after and is the Day of Atonement. Synagogues blast the shofar every day for a month leading up to the holiday, culminating with a sequence of 100 blasts during the Rosh Hashanah services, which take place this year on SEPTEMBER 20.

What is the meaning of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur?

Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe:

A 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the two "High Holy Days" in the Jewish religion.
