They got in trouble for bringing an evil and Negative Report. They did not see God as their Leader or Protector in Battle.
The same thing happens when a doctor brings us an evil report. You can lay back and die or you can rise up in the Strength of God and fire out some scripture on healing,
Favor of God; Psalm 23. Rest in Gods love and care for you.

Just in case you're unsure of this word in the KJV, I'll start with the definition of "withholdeth". It is the old English for the modern word 'withhold'. It's main meaning is to hold back (something from someone who wants it); in other words, to keep or hold something to oneself and to refuse to give or grant it to others. In some contexts, it can instead mean to restrain or control oneself from an action or expression
The morality, and ethics (a recommended list of right behaviours to follow; a good 'code of conduct'; standards for good procedure or actions to do when in particular situations), of withholding anything depends on what it is, who holds or controls it, who lacks it, the situation, and whether harm, loss, death, psychological suffering, or physical sickness to anyone might result from not giving a person access to it. So, sometimes it is not wrong &selfish to withhold something just because someone else demands it or feels entitled to it
Proverbs 11:26 gives an example of when it is definitely bad to withhold something of value to others who lack it. It is also a true principle because it accurately describes real situations that do happen
Example: Joseph caused corn and grain or other preservable crops to be collected & stored as a resource for a future expected famine ( Genesis 41:46-49). Some bible translators were wrong to use the word "hoard" in Prov 11:26 because it means to overstock, and Joseph certainly did collect much more than needed. He could do that without depriving anyone of food at that time because Egypt's land & farmers produced an oversupply. When the famine came the corn was sold, likely at a reasonable price, and distributed fairly. So he was blessed with popularity, respect, obedience, honor & memorial ( Genesis 41:54-57 + 45:16 + 50:26; Exodus 1:8) because he did not withhold corn from people at risk of starvation. In contrast, Joseph Stalin starved Ukrainians in the 1932&'33 Holodomor, a first ever man-made famine
The question is answered in the next verse. John 7:39: "(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)"
The illustration is of the Holy Ghost like a fountain of water gushing up from within the believer, giving all that pertains to the life more abundant, to testify to the glory of Jesus Christ.
In Genesis 16, the angel of the LORD found Hagar by a fountain of water in the wilderness which she then called Beerlahairoi (well of the Living One seeing me).
Later in Genesis 26:19 Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water (also called living water as opposed to a well that needed to be drawn from by hand).
In Exodus 17, the LORD told Moses to smite the rock so that water would flow out to quench the thirst of the complaining Israelites. This is a foreshadowing of Jesus Christ.
The LORD had a controversy with his people in Jeremiah 2:13, "For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."
And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can You Not Discern the signs of the times?
Comment: Maybe we think we are too modern to understand farm talk? We can quote the stock market, report the sports page, grumble over politics, corona virus statistics today, wondering if our school kids will be infected?
Without a healthy appetite for the Bible and it's Prophesy; we are CLUELESS about Signs of the Times we live in; NOW.
Our compassion for humanity is consumed upon our own concerns. The anger builds as we wonder why God doesn't ride in on a pure white horse and fix everything that is broken?
Does anyone remember what hourglasses look like? The sand barely moves in the beginning. In the 9th hour, still much sand nearer the bottom. At 11hrs30minutes the sand picks up speed! You watch the last grains fall through. Then someone reaches and turns it back over. Same process.

The signs in Matthew 24 appear in all kinds of newspapers: hurricanes, typhoons, floods, tornados, erupting volcanoes; a 5.6 earthquake in the New Madrid earthquake fault; merciless forest fires. And now, temperatures that surely will ruin this seasons crops and meat animals that have no food= means High Prices at the checkout.

"Might be" is now is! Now that's cleared, I offer sympathy if someone you cared about recently passed away
The following is my personal experience and my thoughts about what happened. Furthermore, I admit that I didn't want to answer your question because I knew it would draw out the haters. But I couldn't forget your question and now know that it's right to answer from a unique experience
I hadn't seen a dear aunty of mine for a long time due to being abroad. She was an older sister of my mother and was actually more of a good mother to me. She was suffering for a long time, but no closely related relatives told me when there was time because they're narcissistic. I found out very late about it when I phoned relatives overseas, but she was asleep. It was just before she passed away. So it was the most distressing grief I've ever been overwhelmed by
So, I cried to the Father God and told him how I missed her so much and never got the chance to say goodbye. Then when I was out walking on a sunny day, some time within 15 days of her passing, I suddenly sensed the presence of an angel who told me in the spirit that someone wants to speak to me! I'm glad I was given that bit of preparation, or else I would've closed up out of fear. A minute later, her spirit &soul appeared, asking me questions that she would've asked, but never got the chance before. I answered her questions while they walked with me. This lasted about 10 mins. Then 2 days later, they came back for a final brief visit, in my home, so she could see my lifestyle & for me to explain my circumstances to her
So it's possible but rare& only if God allows it for a brief time window (up to 15 days, maybe 30, of the death of a saved soul, escorted by an angel). I didn't ask for that, but u may

Perhaps there are many Christians that have other worldly plans and other worldly agendas for the four months to come, but why?
They're using children's lives as collateral, letting them starve to death IF the plan doesn't include funds to kill unborn babies.

We didn't let the Pelosi-led House of Representatives slip abortion funding into its Coronavirus (COVID-19) funding bills, and we won't let the U.N. fund abortions either. We're talking about millions of dollars in U.N. funding (which U.S. taxpayers contribute to) for abortion under the guise of addressing the Coronavirus.
We've sent letters to the U.N. Commission demanding it stop withholding Coronavirus food shortage aid simply because it doesn't contain funding for abortion. Now, in just days, we're submitting a new formal comment to the U.N.

I do not want to frighten anyone; but Satan wants to. He desires people to reject Jesus in word and deed NOW, rather than wait Till the end of the Tribulation period.
He has released billions of demons to spark riots, violence, theft, murder, suicide, depression, Fears: of disease, the future, no jobs, no income, death, starvation, homelessness. Demons to strike fear in people's minds. Satan wants us to bail and kill ourselves. He is all of those things. He is a Hunter of Souls. He KNOWS he's going to Hell and he wants to steal souls from Jesus.
Go on YouTube, search: spiritual warfare, and get some tools on how to beat up on demons: bind them, cast them into dry places or outer darkness. They are invisible, so don't let that throw you off. Ephesians 6
Part of the Harvest is praying every day for that harvest to survive until scripture gets to them in time to save their souls. All lukewarm Christians will surely suffer loss of rewards in Heaven, if they intend to just sit on their salvation and do nothing for those that are perishing!

This website has a Prayer Request room that has people come in there every day. GO YE in there and pray for them! Don't just sit on your gifts. Are they saved?
Sincere advice. Seek council of a trusted 'bible based' pastor. (they can talk on the phone or email, if you can not leave your house) Be honest about what you are dealing with, so they can pray with you and give firm council. Rid yourself of anything in your house that is causing this trouble/temptaion and do not turn it on again, buy it again, etc. Once it's gone, let it be gone. If your health is good, consider fasting for a few days and stay in prayer. Talk with God, so you are not alone when these thoughts come to trouble your heart. Walk, exercise, clean.

I was sent in here almost a year ago. God knows my body is older now, but my Faith is rock solid towards God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who helps us to Persist in bringing salvation to those who are perishing. I want you to hold onto what you have, and trust in what you already know. Consider...that you were chosen too. As much as Peter, John and Paul. You have a testimony of Gods Love that no one else has. It has power that the Holy Spirit will use to convince sinners that they need that Power To Live also. Mine: I was revealing a horoscope to a backslid Methodist; when the Lord sorta rolled back her face; and I was then looking into His Face. She left and I was in a "state", I cannot define really. Arrested on a "Damascus Road". He is absolutely ALIVE
After 36 years, here I am. I believe He has picked you too. He lets us see the miseries of human life to spur us forward to show them their need for a Risen Savior. He's not out of reach. He's as close as your next breath. If you are stuffed full of scripture and stories (parables), He will use those as you are willing to give them to Jesus. He's numbered our days and recorded them in a book. We're like an army of Noah's that are loading the Ark, which is Jesus Christ.
In addition to building the Ark, Noah preached salvation to the unbelievers. Get in the Ark. Be saved. Not everyone will pray with you for salvation. Don't internalize.
2 Timothy 3:13 evil will wax WORSE and WORSE. Read all of 2 Timothy chapter 3 & 4:1-4.
