Actually Jesus was calling her a puppy (kynarion) under the table, not so much to demean her, but to develop an object lesson. The Jews, by reason of the covenant and their works of the law, considered themselves to be "in" with God and all others to be outsiders. Jesus upended this construct by demonstrating that the exercise of genuine faith in Jesus Christ is what actually pleases God.

Why do people claim a day of rest on a pagan calendar? Saturday is the day for he god Saturn just as Sunday is the day for the sun god. Why not use the 7th day of the week on the calendar GOD created ?

  • SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE - In Reply on Luke 7:23 - 5 years ago
There is more peace in the home if the husband follows Christ; the wife should be able follow her husband's leadership if he does.

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

    1 Timothy 3:11

Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

    Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

    Deuteronomy 17:17

Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away:

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

    Colossians Chapter 3

18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

    James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

    1 Peter 3:1

    Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be WON by the conversation of the wives;

    COMMENTS:

1 Corinthians chapter 7 deals with Marriage.

    Submission works both ways.

Shared household duties makes for more Romance.

Shared accounting duties enlightens partnership and goals. Read Proverbs for money advise.

Shared Parenting produces happier, balanced kids. Media is a privilege: not a 1st Amendment right.

"For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints". As Paul begins to draw his letter to a close, he issues an important reminder about the character of God: for God is not a God of disorder but a God of peace. He is not the author of confusion, but is a God of order and harmony - and all His children, within the Church, should reflect this godly characteristic.

    Hi Conchita,

The 10 Commandments are different in Protestant and Catholic theology.

Here is the difference based on Exodus 20 which both list the commandments:

    Exodus 20 In Protestant theology:

Commandment 1: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Commandment 2: 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image

Commandment 3: 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain

Commandment 4: 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Commandment 5: 12 Honour thy father and thy mother

Commandment 6: 13 Thou shalt not kill.

Commandment 7: 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Commandment 8: 15 Thou shalt not steal.

Commandment 9: 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Commandment 10: 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

    Exodus 20 In Cathoic theology:

Commandment 1: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image

Commandment 2: 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain

Commandment 3: 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Commandment 4: 12 Honour thy father and thy mother

Commandment 5: 13 Thou shalt not kill.

Commandment 6: 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Commandment 7: 15 Thou shalt not steal.

Commandment 8: 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Commandment 9: 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Commandment 10: 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

The 10 Commandments are also listed in Deuteronomy 5.

20 yrs ago my daughter was a victim, i entered her in a police cadet program. I was a single mother and trusted the officer. Once she joined she wanted to join the chess club also held for kids by the same officer. He would pick her up and drop her off. I notice she was acting different, walking to school instead of taking the bus, where the officer would sit in his car. I noticed emails he had written to her . I started to interact w/the emails pretending I was her. I spoke w/ my daughter and after 3 days she broke down and cried. He threatened her that he would hurt me if she spoke about anything. I did manage to get 3 of 8 girls to come forward. 2 were touched and 1 was raped. I hired a lawyer he was put in jail for only 1 month, we sued the county/village and won. They tried everything to cover it up. I have held this guilt inside me for so long until yesterday when I spoke to GOD directly, I cried so hard. Its still hurts. I just need a prayer that I can heal my heart. Thank you & God bless

    Good Samaritan Luke 10:30-47

The Poor and Needy; Matthew 25:35-40

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat:

I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink:

I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

    Naked, and ye clothed me:

I was sick, and ye visited me:

I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, YE HAVE DONE IT UNTO ME.

  • UN-MERITED FAVOR OF GOD - In Reply on Matthew 24:9 - 5 years ago
    I believe, Matthew 25:35-40

describes grace ( un-merited favor). Jesus is explaining difference between sheep and goats. Also the parable of the Good Samaritan, comes to mind; for examples.

His ministry to people involved teaching, feeding, healing etc. He sent his disciples out, to do the same.

If you mix practical, with the God kind of faith, you will produce grace and mercy.

When the sermons make you feel that you are a bad person, that is the Holy Spirit convicting you of your need for Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Bible says plainly that we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Jesus Christ died for us. Admit to God your sinful state, believe in your heart that Jesus, God's son, sacrificed himself for you on the cross, and ask Jesus to come into your life as Savior and Lord. I will be praying for you.

    Stanjett,

Is Christmas always on a Sunday? No

Is your birthday on the same day every year? No

Why is Saturday always the 7th day? Because we are told so.

The Gregorian Calendar that we follow does not allow for Saturday to consistently be the 7th day.

  • Chris - In Reply on Luke 7:23 - 5 years ago
Jason, this chapter in Ecclesiastes shows us that those in power & authority over us, are not always honourable & worthy to be in that position. They may have got there through various means, whether by blood-line, wealth, deception, creating fear, etc. However they are placed there, that position doesn't necessarily make them suitable or give them the needed wisdom to govern. We can sometimes see this in the workplace: how often we notice that a person is really not suitable for the job given him, or the manager of a team, shows no ability towards that position but was elevated to it because of some great need or even because of favouritism.

So here in Eccl 10, we see the writer (likely, Solomon) giving his observations, as a wise man. In verse 7, he is saying that some leaders should not be so because of incompetence. That is why there are some lowly folk who show more wisdom than the leaders whom they serve (servants now ride the horses which the famous 'wise' leaders should have been seen on), and the leaders are now humbled & "walk as the lowly servants walk". Wisdom in life, i.e. not just knowing about the world but to know live carefully & honourably before God & king, is the key in this chapter. And this thought fills much of the book of Proverbs also.

In Matthew 15 verse 26, I don't know the right words to explain what "It is not meet to take the children's bread, and cast it to the dogs

A muslim was arguing with me at first that Jesus had called the woman a dog and I proved he didn't then he wanted me to explain what the above passage means, I am new in Christ so would like to ask someone with a little more knowledge to explain it to me so I can do Jesus justice.

    Meanwhile read Ephesians 6.

If you have youtube: watch some Charles Capps video's on Authority of the Believer.

Go through your house and remove anything that can be considered an Idol.

( Exodus 20). You can't get rid of Demons if they can come back in because of an idol or something that offends the Holy Spirit of God. Books, magazines, weird art, crystals or talismans. It's all gotta be destroyed in Jesus name.

Has anyone considered "last" meaning literally "final"? This world, "system" has been here since the beginning when God created it. Our main focus should not be to figure out the length of "time on earth" left, but living to the fullness of potential and purpose that's pleasing to our heavenly Father. Jesus brought the Kingdom of God back to us to make it final. This is the true meaning of last.

Jesus because of what you went through for me and have done for me - I can fly through the air, I can walk on water, I can run faster than the wind, I can jump higher than Mount Everest. Oh my wonderful Jesus you have made me to walk upon the high places of the earth and I am feeding on the heritage of my father Jacob. There are no words to describe your greatness. I bless you LORD.
  • PARENTS TEACH YOUR CHILDREN on John 14 - 5 years ago
    Psalms 132:12

If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

    Psalms 34:11

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will TEACH you the fear of the LORD.

    Judges 3:2

    Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to TEACH them war (prayer), at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

    Leviticus 10:11

And that ye may TEACH the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

    Deuteronomy 31:19

Now therefore write ye this song for you, and TEACH IT the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

    Titus 2:4

That they may TEACH the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children (and TEACH THEM TO PRAY)

    Daniel 1:4

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning

    Deuteronomy 4:10

Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may TEACH THEIR CHILDREN.

    It's handy to see G R A C E as an acronym: G od's R iches A t C hrist's E xpense.

Though this definition does tend to limit a full understanding (if we can even hope to have) of God's great Grace, it does serve to show us that it is because of what Christ has done for us, as undeserving as we are (and is doing for us now in Heaven), that we enjoy His Favour each day right into eternity.

Our God is God of Mercy (Mercy to all people) - and that Mercy translates into Grace (as an expression of God's Mercy). And that Grace is received by us, those who have responded to His Gift of Salvation.
