    Helen, that phrase refers specifically to male homosexuality, as opposed to lesbianism. When we consider the Greek word applicable to it: 'arsenokoitai', this is broken in two words: 'arsen' meaning 'male' and 'koite' meaning 'a bed, a marriage bed). The apostle Paul had actually coined up a new word to describe this situation, bringing forth his knowledge from the Old Testament ( Leviticus 18 & 20) & so we have this 'new' word in Greek. So, in Paul's usage, this applied to 'men defiling the bed with other men'. Without writing it here for crudity sake, I'll leave it up to you to look at those Greek words again to see the modern usage of the twin words in English.

    John, these are two types of prayer that you are considering. In Mt 6 (also in Lk 11) this was a special request by Jesus' disciples to given them a prayer as John the Baptist did for his disciples (disciples = those under training by a teacher). It was common for rabbis/teachers to give their followers a prayer to be recited that encompassed their beliefs & helped these newbies to focus on God. Hence, this request to Jesus by His disciples. And though this prayer is still used by many in many Churches, sadly it often just becomes a recitation or formality. The preference for believers is to pray to the Father from the heart as a result of the yearning of the spirit: Mt 6:6, is 'to pray to the Father privately & earnestly' - this is not just a recitation like the Lord's Prayer.

    So too at the Garden of Gethsemane, the disciples knew that their Lord's time was at hand, & they should have been alert & watchful rather than asleep while Jesus prayed to the Father. It is just like when someone we love is going through a bad patch in their lives, the only two things that we can immediately resort to on their behalf, is to minister to them & be in serious prayer for them. The Lord's Prayer is not applicable for this, but earnest prayer from our heart. This is the correct response in such a situation. Yet, the disciples succumbed to boredom & tiredness while their Master agonized.

    Ken, in answer to your questions:

    1. Luke 17:26-30 tells us in the last days before Jesus returns to Earth, things will go on as normal: just as they did in Lot's time. But all of a sudden God's Judgement will be poured out, as did happen to Sodom & Gomorrah, so the instruction to the Jews not to return back for their worldly goods (i.e. to preserve their lives).

    2. There are many references to homosexuality in both the Old & New Testaments. Some of these are: Leviticus 20:13 (& see other verses in this chapter about the detestable acts that God abhors; also Lev chap 18); Romans 1:24-28; 1 Corinthians 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:8-10.

    In reference to wearing of make-up: even though passages such as 1 Timothy 2:9,10 & 1 Pet 3:3,4 speak about the wearing of respectable, godly apparel & not about putting on of make-up, there are references to it that associate it with harlotry when beauty had to be enhanced to allure the men: 2 Kings 9:30, Jeremiah 4:30. Leviticus 19:28 speaks about printing marks & cutting of flesh which what Israel must not do (as the heathen did).

    Likewise, in Jn 1:1-14, we're told that God sent forth His Word into the world (this was similar to His Word that He gave to the prophets to speak to Israel) but now He sends it to His people as the time for dealing with their sins had come ( Rom 5:6, 1 Tim 2:6). But to accomplish the payment for their sins (& ours), God required that every sinner had to pay for his/her sins with death & eternal separation from Him. Yet, because of His great Love for us ( Jn 3:16), & desiring our full restoration, He could have no other option, than to give of Himself for us. So the Word (part of the God-head) He sent out to His people would also be the Word that was clothed in humanity purely for the purpose of dying for us (a substitutionary death), so that we wouldn't suffer. So His Word came, given a body as ours, named Jesus (also called Immanuel = God with us), so people not only heard God's Message & got a wonderful glimpse of the Character & Wisdom of God & most importantly, had the payment of their sins made at Calvary. So when we read that Jesus sits at the right hand of God, He is there as the resurrected ascended Lord, now 'physically' distinct in the God-head because of His humanity, yet in a glorified body: just as we will be when we're in Heaven ( 1 Jn 3:2).

    Evelyn, just to add to the other good comments you received.

    As you have done, we need to refer to the Scriptures so as to learn a Truth, even though at times it's difficult to humanly comprehend (e.g. a Triune God). According to the Scriptures ( 1 Jn 5:7) there are "there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." There is one God & that one God is fully seen (or, expressed) in His Three Persons (Father, Word & Holy Spirit). Just as if a friend was talking with you, she would just see her friend Evelyn, in front of her. But if she were able to see you in a complete way, she would be aware of your physical (body), your soul & spirit: all parts that make you who you are. So God too, reveals Himself to His creation as the only True God. But unlike us, constrained by the physical & because He is only Spirit without Body, He can perform different functions or works in different places & in different ways.

    Some things have to be believed in FAITH.

    A Christian does not have to be drawn into debates about whether God is the Father, The Son is God or the third person of the Godhead is God the Holy Spirit. Each is separate but all 3 are God.

    There's a lot written about debates and the fact you and (these) friends are debating the known Truth; tells me that none are reading their Bibles, Chapter after Chapter. You cannot "spot read " and learn any continuity of thought.

    Try staying in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) and see how they all agree in scripture. Which you are doubting.

    Thank you, I do have a couple of questions regarding end time prophecies.

    1. What is the Book, Chapter and verse that states " They will be buying and selling" referring to the end times.

    2. Where are the scriptures about perversion and homosexuality Lust. There is something in the Bible I have read that said something about make up or painting there faces as the heathen do. I can't remember the verbage exactly but it that is what it referred to.

    Although Matthew Henry"s commentary is exactly correct, we all still have a desire to learn and to know about being ceremonially clean or unclean. For these things, after all, are written for our admonition/our learning, and not for nothing. I would advise that you continue, also, to read Matthew"s commentary that you may gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Also, there are others, including Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis, and R.C. Sproul. Since these men are, what I call, the modern apostles of our day, you may as well find yourselves a good book on "Reformed Theology". There is one titled, "What is Reformed Theology"?     Hi Evelyn -

    In a human sense there are several ways to explain God as one.

    I am a son to my parents, I am a brother to my siblings, I am a husband to my wife, and I am a father to my children. I am different to each of them, but I am one and the same person.

    Let's look at H2O = water. It is one thing, yet it has 3 elements. Also, there is wet liquid, a solid when frozen, and a mist or fog when sprayed. It is 3 in one.

    John 17, I believe, is Jesus Christ's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. This chapter shows His intent for coming in the flesh, that He came with a mission to teach us and to take those who God gave Him. There are two things in this chapter that really stand out to me,

    1. He gives his the gift of eternal life. WHAT A GIFT! We aren't talking a new car, or house, or anything you can get on this earth... we are talking ETERNAL LIFE! Can you even imagine what that will be like! WOW

    2. He doesn't pray for those who are not His. This should be very scary for those who don't know Him. Very Scary.

    I know that KJV is God's preserved word perfect. So I'm trying to understand this verse Acts 7:55. It says Jesus is at God's right hand but I honestly was thinking Jesus is Lord thy God cause in 1 John 5:7 kjv it says they are as one. Can you explain this to me so I can explain it to others as well, because this was a questions that others have asked me as well. And he has to be God Says he was God manifest in the flesh as well.

    in mathew 6 jesus tells us how we should be praying why then elsewhere in one of the gospels does he ask the desiciples to pray with him in the garden of gethsemane? does that not conflict with what he says in Matt. 6?

    The best reason to worship on Sunday is to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead on the first day of the week ( Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20).

    It is not a requirement to honor a particular time of worship because Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." ( Matthew 18:20).

    Colossians 2:16-17, indeed the whole chapter, show us that these things pertaining to what is lawful are but a shadow of things to come, Jesus Christ being preeminent.

    Galatians 5 declares our liberty in Christ, for if we are justified by law we are fallen from grace. Ironically, the Pharisees worked so hard to maintain the Sabbath that it became oppressive. Many still work to establish their own righteousness, not submitting to the righteousness of God (only found in Christ Jesus) Romans 10.

    Hebrews 4 is an excellent lesson on rest for today.

    Revelation 17:10 is all about Papacy. Seven kings are 7 generic names comes after 1798, ie Pius, Leo, Gregory, Benedict, John, Paul, John & Paul. Protestant church fathers always proclaimed that papacy is antichrist system bearing the number 666.All popes are numbered. Thus in the generic name of pius 12 popes reigned and its total is 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9/+10+11+12=78.Like wise Leo- 13 popes =91, gregory 16popes=136, benedict 14 popes =105, john 21 popes =231, paul 6 popes=21, john paul 2 popes=3. And altogether the count is 665 with john paul ii. 8th was benedict 16 and then count became 665+16=681.Benedict resigned and the count returned to 681- 16 = 665. Francis is a new papal name so count is 1.Thus his total count is 665+1=666. From these above we can see that john paul reigned for a short space. Generic count completed by death (fall)of the pope. Rev. 17 :11- And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eight, and is of the seven, and goeth in to perdition. And the eight is pope francis. Catholic bishop st malachy's prophecy confirm this. Francis pope is petrus romanus. The malachy prophecy also predicts that our Lord Jesus will return in that time of his reign. So our Lord Jesus is coming very very soon. Much sooner than we think. Popes are kings because they rule the kingdom of vatican. Beast is referred as political &religious head. Napoleon captured pope pius during 1798 and papacy wounded by sword. Papacy reigned from AD- 538 to 1798 continuously for 1260years.

    I found out about Tobit when I was a teenager. I think my brother told me because he was into the Grateful Dead. Apparently they got the title of their band from Tobit.

    The dead ; who were left in the street to rot after they were killed by the wicked king, were grateful that one of their country men took them and gave them a burial. He even risked his life to do so. I was never that crazy about the Dead's music , but I sure liked that story. It took a considerable amount of time to find it.

    I'm of the humble opinion that if this gentleman did exist, and he did do as the story stated; then-

    THE Lord was like" Wow! This guy is so cool that I'm going to put him in my book!"

    I dont know... I like this story. I know doesn't it follow the general theme of the of the other books. They point to the messiah, or the nation of Israel, the people. This is story about poor suffering Jew in Diaspora who did something remarkable for his brethren.
