Hi Terry. You quoted from Deuteronomy 23:18. The word in Hebrew, is 'keleb', which in fact is 'dog'. We see this word used in several places, but it is also used figuratively about men & it's written in contempt. So we see this particular use of the word in Psalm 22:16,20; 2 Samuel 9:8; Isaiah 56:10; etc. But here in Deuteronomy 23:18, I believe the word is applied to 'sodomites', even as we see in the previous verse 17, "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel."

Not only was prostitution forbidden amongst God's people, but any money associated with those people was forbidden to be used in the performance of a vow before God. And this basically means that neither the wicked person or their money were allowed into God's House, unlike the heathen who often engaged in temple prostitution & used the proceeds from it. Israel was not to behave like them in any shape or form.

Maybe it was "intended for more than a vow", as you suggest, i.e. for the giving of other forms of gifts, for other purposes. But it seems that in these two verses (also verses 21-23), a vow made before the Lord is utterly binding & not to resemble the practises of the heathen.

    Thank you Mishael.

I know I was moved by the Holy Spirit when I wrote it. I could not take the credit, but Glory to God.

Since I was saved, I tried the best to understand the Bible and claimed the treasures of wisdom and knowledge as Colossians 2:3 says.

I came back for at least ten. I pray there are more. This is a parallel of what the Lord says..Genesis18:23-33.

Those who have ears, let them hear what the Lord says.

    Agape.

In Revelation Chapter 3:5 ""All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the book of Life....." I thought once your name was written in the book of Life then you are guaranteed a seat in heaven. This scripture implies that your name can be erased based on how you live your life. I would love to hear what other think about this scripture.

Paul , I have to be honest with you . I have had family who were involved with the mormons so I know a bit about them and their beliefs . I'm probably not the best person to enter a dialogue with you so if you would beg my pardon I shall respectfully bow out of this conversation .

I don't understand this passage; "Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow"? I mean, I understand the hire of a whore, but what is the reference to concerning the price of a dog? And are we to assume this is intended for more than a vow?

Well explained bro S. Spencer, as also from bro Adam's comments to Paul. I think of Philippians 2:12: "...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." The apostle was writing, 'your salvation came by faith, now work out that faith (your salvation) in your lives, and do so with great seriousness & watchfulness'.

Salvation can never be by works alone, nor by faith plus works, or else it would no longer be of faith. Faith is trusting in God to give us His gift of salvation. Works is trusting in Ourselves to give us salvation - if this was so, even possible, Christ need not have died, & our salvation would be based on our efforts which would have guaranteed our rejection by God. But God-given faith must produce God-given works - we must give all diligence to it.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for listing the verses of your perceived contradictions. You're making a giant claim by claiming "The Bible contradicts itself quite often." Have you actually done a deep study into each of your claims to determine if other explanations exist that you haven't yet considered or is this just a snap judgment? Just because you assume they're contradictions doesn't mean they are and doesn't seem to justify trying to discredit the Bible on a Bible site. If you would like we can address each of these one at a time. In reality you could also just take a few seconds to Google search it and find logical explanations for each of these points from sites like got questions, carm, etc but still, I'm happy to have a dialog.

For now I'll just point out that your first difficulty with geneologies, the geneology of Matthew may be through Joseph and geneology of Luke may be through Mary. Can you see how that would result in a different geneology? Another view is that Matthew is a biological geneology and Luke recorded a legal geneology through levirate marriage. Deuteronomy 25:5. Another possibility is that Joseph had two fathers. Can you see how now in just a short paragraph that either of these could easily explain what you assumed was a contradiction. Because the Bible was meticulously recorded, inspired by God, and is the truth, isn't it more likely that in each of these there is a logical explanation you haven't yet thought of, rather your assumptions being true?

    Hi Paul.

In James 2:14-16. we have the context and resolve

"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

( If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?")

You see a similar verse here in

1 John 3:17. "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, HOW DWELLETH THE LOVE OF GOD IN HIM?"

The love of God IN YOU CAUSES YOU TO RESPOND WITH WORKS, It's a fruit of the spirit. you're "persuaded" From within.

You're not acting out faith or manifestating faith.

    You're persuaded!!

If you don't respond "putting in the work" You are not persuaded!

Philippians 2:13. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

These scriptures don't contradict. Faith is dead without works and works is dead without Faith. God is not in you until he saves you and if you are not saved no matter what you do you can't please him. It is Christ faith in you that causes you to work!! This is why in James 2:18 he says "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."

God doesn't accept works from a unclean person "the unsaved" in a attempt to make himself righteous.

Men righteousness is as filthy rags. If you are saved by faith you will work, If you won't work, your faith is vain.

    God bless.

Hello Natasha. The verse is from Song of Solomon 2:2, "As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters." This is, I believe, Solomon's bride speaking, as the following verses suggest (others, refer it to it as Solomon's words).

So, the Shulamite bride, in this verse, sees herself as a lily peering through the surrounding thorny bushes, and she compares that to the intense love she has for Solomon, far exceeding the love from the maidens. Now why this verse was inscribed onto a headstone, I cannot be sure. The only thought that comes to mind, is the wife's/husband's (or, family's) strong sentiments of endless love for their dear departed. The other option would be, that the character of the departed one was truly extraordinary & exemplary, far above others they have known. But I would prefer the first option.

And as a side-note: many of the passages in the Songs, give us a picture of Christ Jesus & His Love for His Church.

Hi Larry. You can find the references to the kings of Israel (as opposed to the kings of Judah) in the following Bible references: 1 Kings chapter 12 to 1 Kings chapter 22 and 2 Kings chapter 8 to 2 Kings chapter 15.

And you'd be looking for the following names of Israel's kings (from the above references): Jeroboam 1, Nadab, Baasha, Elah, Zimri, Tibni, Omri, Ahab, Ahaziah, Joram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, Jehoash, Jeroboam 2, Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah, Hoshea. After this last king, Israel goes into Assyrian captivity.

Am going to have to make this short, much can be said on this subject, been a long day.

We are saved by Grace alone, through faith, but what is faith without works? It's dead, it is dead faith.

Our works is the only thing we take with us, they make up our Fine Linens, Our robes, It's one of the finest rewards ,, least ye walk naked in shame, throughout the millennium.

    Revelation 19:8

    Revelation 7:13

    Revelation 7:14

Sorry I would like to do this more Justice, but we earn our fine linens, and robes through our works.

"Christ will come like a thief in the night" and take it, if we are not ready and watching 1 Thessalonians 5:2 ---- 2 Peter 3:10...

Read Matthew 24 starting at about v42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

If you're not ready, and are caught backsliding, all your works can be stolen from you, like a thief in the night. Be ready always, be watching always.

But the Bible speaks of things to be revealed beyond what's written,

...for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. ( Revelation 19:7)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. ( John 16:13)

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. ( 1 Corinthians 2:10)

Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, ( 1 Cor. 14:39)

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: ( Acts 2:18)

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: ( Acts 2:17)

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. ( Amos 3:7)

Hello Paul. Just to your point referenced by Ezekiel 37:16-19. If I may suggest, as a Truth seeker myself, that the two sticks mentioned by Ezekiel don't correlate to the joining of the Bible (Stick of Judah) to the Book of Mormon (Stick of Ephraim), rather to the people/nations themselves.

This whole chapter is about people, not books: Ezekiel 37:11, "these bones are the whole house of Israel". The 2 sticks becoming one stick in Ezekiel's hand represent Judah and Israel being united in the end days. One might then say, that Israel is already a nation today without a clear demarcation of Judah & Israel as a people or land boundaries, but I believe the intent of this prophecy from Ezekiel is that Israel will truly be one nation again with one King Who will rule over them; and this will be their Messiah Whom they once rejected & killed.

Ezekiel 37:21, 22. "Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all."

I would also ask you Paul, though leaving aside the many discrepancies you've noticed in the Bible & my responding to them, have you read or studied more about Mormonism, Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, Brigham Young, etc? Even such a writing suggesting that the Sun, Moon & Stars being inhabited, should cause one to withdraw swiftly. Just sharing a sample of those writings that you may not be aware of & to encourage you to search more deeply about this book & the people behind it & the other writings.

Adam, I am praying for the U.S., the country God chose for me to be born in. Thank you for the reminder. I pray that I will be even more prayerful about what is going on in the U.S. since it seems that so much is being decided and carried out that is so detrimental to most Americans. People are feeling the stress of inflation on every commodity and service they need in their daily lives. I pray that God will provide in ways that overcome the effects of more taxation, inflation, and lack of goods in the supply chain. I pray that those who are able bodied will ALL gain employment and get off of unemployment and welfare so as to work to provide for their own needs, the needs of their own family, and the good of the communities they live in. I pray that there will be increased production as more people become employed so that goods can be manufactured to keep up with what people need. I pray that farmers will be able to grow foods to the capacity of their land and that the price of gas, fertilizer goes down so they can remain in this business and make a profit to take care of the needs of their families. I pray that more people choose to become truck drivers so that these goods and foods can be transported and delivered across our country.

I especially pray that believers across the U.S. commit to prayer and to living within their means so that they will have what is needed for day to day needs but also be able to save some of their paychecks so they will have what is needed in times of unexpected expenses for themselves of others.

I pray all of this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. We need Him more than anything else in this life. He is able to supply all of our needs according to His riches stored up for us in Glory.
