Chapter 4 shows Christ's mission field expanded to the Samaritans; specifically first to the woman at the well then the rest of the rather large group of people that came to faith. It also shows how those in His hometown wouldn't believe (v.44). Finally; we see the situation of the nobleman whose son was sick to the point of death; and the subsequent healing.
We note that Christ reached out to someone who no doubt was despised by the religious elite in nearby Jerusalem. Not only was this woman a Samaritan (in a society that mixed Judaism with paganism); but this woman clearly was now living in sin (even if her 5 husbands all died one after another and were legitimate.) The concepts of grace; and worshipping in the Spirit were readily accepted once her sin was revealed and she recognized Him as a Prophet AND Messiah. Because there wasn't such a tradition of legalism; Christ's statements of deep theological mysteries could be readily accepted; this largely contributed to the recognition of someone who clearly recognized that she was a sinner.
The reaction of the townsfolk also showed that this population was much more ripe for the harvest (v. 30-38). These verses show Christ's redirection (once again) from the importance of physical well being to that of spiritual principles; which apparently the Disciples needed a mind reset on once again. The reaction of the townspeople in v. 39-43 shows that they were thinking as Bereans as it were; searching for themselves rather than just taking someone's word for it about Christ being the Son of God.
The situation with the nobleman's son may seem to elicit a rude response from Christ in v. 48. There may be some parallel here in this with the woman who desired her daughter to be delivered from a devil ( Matt. 15:27). It also very well could have been addressed to others who were observing this for nefarious reasons. Either way He tests the faith of others.
See Isaiah 6:10. Some are blinded; others see
Well spoken, God bless you.
1 - There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 - And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 - I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Merriam-Webster (repent): [verb] to turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one's life.
In the discourse to Nicodemus; the Godhead is once again refered to as "we" in v. 11. The famous John 3:16 has been used to raise an apparent contradiction. The "whosoever" has been considered the elect according to some. We should also keep in mind that we ALL were a part of the world before we were saved. Therefore; that shows our limit to the scope of time and space to the specifics of when we went from death to life. We should also bear in mind that there is a process involved where the Spirit convicts of sin; righteousness and judgment to come ( John 16:8). Repentance is also said to be something granted by God ( Acts 5:31; etal). Our own consciousness even in a darkened state can recognize consequences for sin and fear judgment
but until we see the light and undergo a heart change we won't want to be reproved (v. 20). (also see Ezekiel 11:19). After we are saved; there must be good works and continuing sanctification as v. 21 alludes to. Therefore; there is transformation occurring before we understand and make a verbal confession; and it continues throughout our lives.
The last part of the passage from verse 22 on show Johns discoursse; once again highlighting election. Verse 27 states that a man cannot recieve anything unless it be "given him from heaven". This theme is repeated in v. 31 and 32 that with earthly uderstanding no man receiveth his testimony (v. 32). Verse 33 seems to show to some extent how a believer is sealed as is shown in Ephesians 1:13-14 (I could use further clarification of that). Nonetheless; v. 36 again shows that someone who believes "on the Son" has everlasting life; and the contrary for those who don't including God's wrath.
The end of this passage is given more detail in other scriptures; including John. We must not only believe; but do as He says; for those who love Him will keep His commandments ( John 14:15). This makes love for one another paramount ( John 13:34)
Thank you for your insight. Before Abraham was I AM.
If we focus on this verse alone, I can somewhat see where you get the idea that God's Name is Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob. Unfortunately, this verse doesn't stand alone; in most cases with Scripture we have to read around the verse addressed to learn the context & meaning. Remember when Moses spoke to God & said that when he goes to the children of Israel, they will ask him, "What is his name?" (v13). And God replies at verse 14, "I AM THAT I AM - I AM (hath sent me unto you)." This is God's Name.
Now to get to your type of 'trinity' (i.e. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, & then relating that to Father, Son & Grandson) shows an incorrect understanding of Exodus 3:13-15. I don't believe in the normal reading of these verses, that anyone would think of such an application & further developing into your beliefs. When God said, "this is my name forever", God was speaking about the Name he gave to Moses to give to Israel - which is I AM THAT I AM. But if one is compelled to force your interpretation to it, then God's Name is, "The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob" - His Name is the LORD God, & not 'my Name IS Abraham, Isaac & Jacob'. So even here, you've taken out 'OF' & inserted 'IS'. So I see an important word change that you've made. And if you want to retain 'OF', then it equally makes no sense as God's Name.
Alex, please re-read that passage as given & not to support some variant theology that leads further away from Truth.
Suppose an unknown no. is given represented by 'x'. We are given two conditions for it. The first says 'x' can be any no. from 1-10. The second condition limits the possible values of 'x' to 8-10. Can someone say that 'x' can be, say, 4 because this value satisfies the first condition? No, because the 2nd condition says from 8-10. Now let's go to the verses like Acts 2:17 and many other in the OT and NT. It seems then that 'x' = men and women, so women can be also pastors. But there are other verses/conditions like 1 Timothy 2:15, 1 Cor 14;35, as well as other given by brothers that limit the possible answer. Then its becomes obvious that the only solution that satisfies all verses/'conditions is 'x'=men, isn't it so?
Finally its not right trying to go around verses by using logical thinkiing. "Well, you know, it was an old fashioned world, women sat on the balcony etc". Yes that's true, but does this give me the authority to change the Bible? Take God's position as Lawmaker? Haven't thas sort of things alter the christian church that has become in many aspects unrecognisable nowadays? Some things in the Bible are straightforward, just take them as they are, not arguing but asking God to explain. Assume Apostole Paul suddenly appeared in front of us now. Who would dare and have the courage to argue and disagree with him because he would think that Paul was old fashioned? Any volunteers? Certainly not me.
Blessings to All
But Chris you should have a enough spritual understanding to see that this Abrahamic trinity is just a picture of God Almighty offering up his only son Jesus...The RAM caught in the thicket by his horns is just Prophetic of Christ and his crown of thorns
.....When Abraham offered up his only son Issac....Issac asked his Father we have the wood and the fire but where is the lamb....Abraham replied the Lord will provide himself a lamb....Do you not see that this is a beautiful picture of the Cross...SMH
Thus we can see how Gods name wd be Abraham Issac and Jacob....That initiated the nation of Israel.....But what GOD did at calvary is gonna initiate an ISRAEL OF GOD....That is gonna be as the Stars of Heaven in mutitude....That was the great Promise.
......Abraham means Father of a multitude...But its really God Almighty that is the FATHER of a multitude....Our heavenly Father is gonna be multiplied simply b/c of what Jesus did at calvary....God swore by himself when he made that Promise of multiplication....Thats y Jesus is saying to whom the word came ( that good seed ) it made them Gods and the scripture cannot be broken....The gift of God is the H.G. the Child of Promise the multiplication of God....We cd not refer to the H.G as the PROMISE if he were the NOT THE multiplication of very God IN HUMANITY....That Woman in Rev 12 is a picture of humanity birthing the Children of Promise the H.G the Gift of God to everybody....I will pour out of my spirit on ALL flesh....If i be lifted up i will draw ALL MEN unto me...GB
11" Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord".
More than half way through my journey, I have looked back as a child until now, and have seen the presence of the holy spirit . I would say this is the wind Jesus speaks of, when He is talking to Nicodemus. The wind of the holy spirit that even guided the Indians, who may have never been Baptized ,but knew of a Spirit!
Soon they would learn where this Spirit came from, and where it would lead!
The chief, the master, would soon know these things! Hearing the words from Christ himself, revealed through John 3;16.
Jesus being from all eternity, with the Father in the garden, promising to send Him ,this same spirit we now speak of!
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." Repent and be Baptized
The innocence of abiding in Christ! Not unlike Adam and Eve, we too are confronted with the wiles of Satan. Distractions from the real life that is ours, through the grace we now have in Christ. Even so, we must now face the consequences, toiling in the heat of the day, working the land, no more depending on the goodness that flowed from heaven. It is when we come to that place of revelation, that things in this world begin to make perfect sense in this place, outside of Eden! That the scriptures have been written for our learning, so we might go forth in His word, living a life that could be compareable too ,what He wants for us!
A life filled with His love, learning the things that belong to us. A life, that because of sin, their will always be some trouble. Trouble that can be overcome as we travel through this place ,outside of Eden! Our mission to teach and preach these things, upon the rock that will hold all of God and His word together! Repent and be Baptized
2 Corintihans 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
What does it say in Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Lord Jesus: Matthew 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
When it is so important and not See error? According to Jesus and the Holy Scriptures. So when we feel envy, longing, greed, etc. WE MUST ALWAYS be satisfied with what we have, the life we live, everything that belongs to it, is put there for a reason: Because you as a Christian can help people repent from dead works to faith in the Living God Jesus Christ.
Don't look at other people, how they are dressed, how many nice things they have mm
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. No one can claim that he/she has an instruction from God that is different from His written Word. If he/she does then it is fake. Does God contradict Himself? The rule that we can compare what is true or fake is the written Word of God, otherwise why read the Bible since for me there may be something different? If someone doesn't know God's instructions then he/she is innocent, but if he/she does ....! They are going to hear that He doesn't know them. But we made miracles, casted out demons, prophesied in Your Name.... Entrance to the Marriage closed. Disobedience to God's Word is a sin and if one doesn't repent and correct his way ...

Paul is writing to Christians that they were now made alive ("you hath he (God) quickened") - i.e. they were now spiritually alive; but not referring to a physical life.
So, if they were made spiritually alive by God, they must have been spiritually dead (i.e. not having spiritual life). And Paul then goes on to remind the Ephesians that when they were spiritually dead, their sinful life which controlled their thoughts & manner of life, came not from God but from Satan (the prince of the power of the air). Whenever we allow Satan to control us, i.e. to tempt us & we give in to him and sin, it shows that we're not allowing God's Spirit to have full reign (or, control) over us.
In the past, these believers lived their lives as the world without God, lives (v2). And this included allowing the desires of their flesh & mind to overrule (v3), making them the children deserving of God's Anger. And then that wonderful conjunction word: BUT (in verse 4). This word BUT wonderfully brings two thoughts together. Once we were children of the world deserving God's Judgement, BUT God stepped in to rescue us from the world, ourselves, & Satan. And He did this because He is a Merciful God, a Loving God, Who gave us new life through the Gift of His Son Jesus Christ. I think you can see how special that BUT is in this passage - when once we had no hope, but now a joyous hope because we're forgiven & accepted through Christ.
Maybe, I shared more than you expected, but felt that this whole passage truly shows us what 'spiritual death' is. Our spirits were once dead God-wards & nothing we could do could rectify that awful state to be in. BUT God stepped in bringing us out of spiritual death & judgement, to give us spiritual life, health & peace - through Him Who loved us & gave Himself for us.
And when this altar is built, it must be built from naturally found stone & not shaped or cut in any way (v25). God has deemed that if any tool is used on the stones of the altar, it will be considered polluted & hence rejected. I think these observances show that man must do nothing of himself in coming to worship God & be acceptable to Him - but to obey God & use those materials & animals that God alone has produced to be used.
In verse 26, we read that there should not be steps, or a stairway, to the top of the altar. It is understood that because of the nature of the clothing, before breeches were introduced, the priest might subject himself to exposure & immodesty. And it is possible that the construction of the steps, by virtue of the altar position, may have subjected him to such view, whereas in later constructions of the altar, the climb was more gradual, even though it was much higher at ten cubits. Maybe others may you give different views on these verses.
He tells us to watch and pray
Act 2:18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:" Notice God said I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh this included woman. A question who cared the first massage after Jesus was resurrected from the died "Mary" Love and grace to God stay prayed up and ready to go up. Cowboy
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
And he said, WHO TOLD THEE THAT THOU WAST NAKED? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
Genesis 3:10-11.
We know by 1 Peter 1:19-20 That Christ was foreordained as the sacrificial Lamb to come into the world before it begun.
He was to be the atonement they needed for their sin.
It's interesting it was the tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil. It seems the issue was what would they do with that knowledge. ( Cover themselves)
That knowledge told them that they were naked. "Sinful or atleast capable of it".
Look What Satan tells Eve For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and YE SHALL BE AS GODS, KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL. Genesis 3:5
God says
And the LORD God said, BEHOLD, THE MAN IS BECOME AS ONE OF US, TO KNOW GOOD AND EVIL: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Genesis 3:22
It seems to be a lot more significance in the RESULTS of the disobedience act than the disobedience itself.
Listen to Adam.
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I WAS AFRAID, BECAUSE I WAS NAKED; and I hid myself. Genesis 3:10. "Not because I disobeyed! but I was naked.
God bless.
