    Hi Donna,

I came to this site a month or so ago to begin in Genesis. I completed it a week or so ago. I am going to begin Exodus beginning January 1st. So, we will be pretty current to one another in our study. That may be helpful to us! If you wish we can kind of keep in touch with each other as you go through Genesis. If you wish to go on to Exodus, then we can keep in touch for that, too.

I found it helpful to read the passage and to read the commentary and then to read all comments before I added a post.

Thank you for those additional comments. We could spend much time discussing the points you raised, to no avail, as we understand the Scriptures on this doctrine in a different way.

The point that is of the essence here is: if there is no eternal condemnation & suffering for Christ-rejecting sinners, then what is the judgement for that rejection? You suggest that the grave now & then after the resurrection & judgement, death again (& annihilation) is the punishment.

You also state that atheists will remain more so because of the teaching of this eternal suffering doctrine. This could be true, but I also see that atheists will remain in their condition because there is no further accountability upon them for their rejection of God.

So the question: if both the child of God & the unrighteous have to face death & the grave, where is the punishment of sinners that we read of in the Word? That the unrighteous are resurrected one day & then annihilated again doesn't seem to be any different judgement than what we all will face in death. And then the matter about the part of us which is indestructible (the soul & spirit); what happens here?

No adequate answer can be given to such questions unless we understand God's Judgement on sinners is far more than just an annihilation but an eternal suffering while those made righteous through Christ enjoy eternal life with Him. We may not always preach a hell-fire Gospel, but that has always been the impetus that drove the apostles to preach & to lay down their lives for the Gospel. If only death was the terminus for the sinner, there would be no compelling need to preach the Gospel - just a "come to Jesus, believe, get saved & have eternal life" Gospel. We have to get saved so that God's Judgement for our sin doesn't fall upon us. At least that's why I was saved: by fleeing the judgement in an eternal hell & running into the Arms of a Loving & Merciful Saviour.

    Donna,

You can google and study about these topics to become informed about wat is entailed in these things and what is the intention of instituting these.

Yep you are right, the schools are becoming more and more anti-christian but accepting of pagan celebrations like solstice or practices like "mindulness", meditation, yoga, Ramadon, etc. I just retired from teaching in public schools and it has gotten so much worse these past 5-10 years. I honestly think that those in power are afraid of christianity and especially Jesus because they know it is true ad they stand condemned before Him for their unbelief, all under te guise of not wanting to "offend people of other faiths or no faith.

Parents be warned, the public school system is now positioned to strip your child of their faith and Christian upbrining.

Adam, I am praying for the police officer. What a tragic mistake she made, despite her training. It is so obvious how terribly upset she was when she realized her mistake. may God grant her mercy in this situation and bring about a just and compassionate resolution for her. She never intended to hurt Dante. And she should be forgiven by his family and community. It is truly sad that racism is so injected into these situations. It has always been wrong to racially mistreat people and it still is. However, I fear that those who are presently dominating the racism today feel justified since they are turning the racism back on white people and the police, and the government and media are supporting this. So sad and harmful to our nation and individuals. God please help us end this now.

    You are right Glenn,

Hebrew and Greek did not have a letter "J" "J" came into the alphabet and corresponding, phoneme arena with the Romans, I believe, as Jesus in Roman was "Iesous" in Greek and "Yeshua" in Hebrew. I am not sure how the initial "Ie" or "ye" was pronounced in Greek or Hebrew, perhaps a forced exhaled sound between J and Y or JH or HY.

Anyone out there who knows more?

Consider this please . Genesis Ch 6 V 2 , the sons of God and the daughters of men , who were they ?

Ch 4 V 1 Eve says of Cain , I have gotten a man from the LORD . Why does she say this and why are we told that she said this ?

Ch 5 V 3 Adam begat a son in his own likeness , after his own image , Seth . Why is Seth referred to in this way ?

Ch 4 V 26 Seth begat Enos : then began men to call upon the name of the LORD . Why then specifically and why are we told that it was then specifically ?

In conclusion could the ' sons of God ' and the ' sons of men ' be the offspring of Seth and the offspring of Cain rather than the offspring of angels and humans as some may believe ?

Agreed, Adam. This incident was politicized by the leftist from the beginning. We should take that as a given. That is wy you and I work to get more information from sources other than the mainstream (leftist) media to try to get a better understanding of things such as incident with G. Floyd and the police.

I have asthma and have had times when my airways were narrowed to such a degree that I could not get air in or out. i could not say anything. I have also hade narrowed airways were I could barely pass are and could just whisper any words. I have also had times when my airways were narrowed but I could talk hoarsely in halted speech. In all of these incidents I needed either emergency care or breathing treatments with my rescue inhaler and nebulizer. G. Floyd was able speak repeatedly that he could not breath for 10-20 minutes without. In the end, instead of trying to relax and concentrate on breathing slowly without speaking, he continued to call out. Understandably, he was panicking because his body was shutting down. eventually, most likely his he stopped and so he could no longer complete the breathing process, or his lungs stopped working and could not complete the breathing process. But I can't know for sure and it is good that there was an independent autopsy that said that e died of an overdose, not asphyxiation as you said. It was a sad event. But I believe an injustice was done to Derek Chauvin and not to G. Floyd. Mr. Floyd caused his own demise.

And the left went rampant with rioting, looting, and other behaviors that ad nothing to do with injustice. The protesting was fine, to me, but it never stayed peaceful, and the protesters knew that would be the case.

Lord Jesus, Protect and preserve Chrissy this day. Deliver her from this deep sadness and sense of hopelessness se is experiencing to such a severe degree. Lift this burden from her today and direct her to those who can truly give her immediate help in her desperation. I was quoting Jesus in that case, who says that God is able to destroy both body and soul in hellfire. Matthew 10:28.

The Bible teaches us two resurrections: one for the just, and one for the unjust. John 5:28-29. The righteous are resurrected at the second coming of Christ, and those who are alive and remain at His coming are given new bodies at that time. 1 Thess 4:13-17; 1 Cor 15:51-53. After the thousand years, the unjust are resurrected, and at that time they face their judgment, which is total annihilation (and not without suffering). Revelation 20:4.

When Christ speaks of the worm that dies not, he is quoting from a passage in Isiaiah: Isaiah 66:24. This verse speaks of worms eating on the corpses of dead men. It is the worm that does not die, but the people are well dead, for they are merely corpses. There is no reason we should interpret worm here to mean "immortal soul," for there is no such thing. The soul that sins shall die: Ezekiel 18:4

The word Jesus uses in Mark 9:44,46 is Gehenna, which was a place of refuse. They kept the piles of garbage there burning so that it would be consumed away. This is the illustration Jesus employed for the fires of hell: fires which burn up all the garbage and get rid of it.

As for whether cessation from existence or eternal conscious torment are more terrifying to the wicked man... How many atheists have been made out of the doctrine of eternal conscious torment, which is not true? They reject God because they think He is a monster, when in reality He is not. How are we supposed to love God with all of our heart if He is more sadistic than the worst madman we can imagine? That's precisely why the devil loves this doctrine.

Revelation 20:11-15 describes the wicked, as well as death and hell, being cast into the lake of fire. The lake of fire here is symbolic of total destruction. Death is being abolished, as well as the grave, as well as all the wicked and all sin.

Hi there. I have a deep, sincere problem with statements like your that imply that Jesus was in error in what He said to his apostles and disciples wen He commissioned them to take and deliver the gospel to unbelievers. He never spoke and erroneous word ever. He identified Himself as The Truth.
  • GiGi - In Reply - 3 years ago
Amen, Rick. We have so much to celebrate and five praise and thanks for in Jesus, our Redeemer. What an opportunity Christmas provides for us to share the good news of God's salvation in and through His holy, righteous, perfect, glorous Son.

    Wilbur,

These are good Scriptures and wish to abide by them in connection to my participation in the congregation of my local church under the authority of my husband, pastor, or elders. I have no problem with these Scriptures.

But in a forum such as this, we are all equal and free to present our thoughts on spiritual matters, as there is no established leadership to submit to. In Acts, Priscilla (wife of Aquila, taught Apollos about the baptism of Jesus compared to that of John and updated him on the gospel message to help him mature to be equipped to be an evangelist. So, I do not think that women are to be silent on spiritual matters in ALL circumstances.

But thank you for bringing it up. Perhaps you could explain more why you did so. I'd like to know that, and perhaps others would, too since it was not part of the topic in this thread.

Dear Janice, I think you have misunderstood me. I did not say that the Holy Spirit coming upon people with power as in the book of Acts is not a real experience , nor that I haven't received the Holy Spirit this way. I have. What I was talking about was the events in Acts as they related to the gospel message, the work of the Holy Spirit to regenerate and bestow grace and faith upon a person to enable them to believe the gospel, profession of faith in Jesus on the part of a new believer, water baptism and the enduement of the Holy Spirit upon believers.

As for me, I have been a believer all of my life. I have been indwelt by the Holy Spirit since God regenerated me upon my conversion and the Holy Spirit continues to fill me all along the way. I have had hands lain on me for the Spirit to come upon me as it speaks of it in the book of Acts when I was in college. I have walked a Spirit-filled life for all these

    years, and I am 65.

So, it is true, you don't know me wen you posted. Now you know more about me. I seek to walk by the Spirit everyday of my life, because I know that this is the kind of life we are called to live and it is provided supernaturally by the Holy Spirit. .

Thank you for your concern about me. I appreciate tat. We are sisters in Christ. We may not agree on everything or may misunderstand each other, but we are together in this wonderful family of God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. to God be the glory forever and ever. Amen

    Raynaldo,

Thank you for sharing more about the Day of the Dead. I understand that it is part of your heritage.

I still think that it is necromancy when one tries to contact someone wo is deceased to converse with them or have them present in a situation, regardless if there is fortune telling or "magic" involved. So, I do not do it, myself.

As to speaking to Jesus, we are encouraged to pray to God and the Holy spirit interacts with us. That is different. One is dealing with God, who is unique and in a class of Being all by himself. It differs from "communicating" to or with people who have died. But I can let this conversation go for today. Thanks for you input.

    Raynaldo,

I am not sure if you understood me correctly in what I said about my dad. e was a believer and God took him before we were ready, but we accept that God makes the best decisions. He was merciful to my dad in taking him before e had to suffer the effects of emphysema whatever else old age would have brought him. My mom, siblings, and I all recognize this. As to being a caregiver for someone close to us. Most of us who know the Lord do so with love and concern for that person. But it is hard to do for some because they themselves may be advanced in years and the work is taxing on them. The neighbor my Mom spoke to is in her 80's, too, and her and her husband still live together in a condo. she has some outside help come in daily. That is all I was saying. I think you over-spiritualized it a bit.

    Comment Part 16 continued

    1 Corinthians 14:33-40 KJV

[33] For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. [34] Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. [36] What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? [37] If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. [38] But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. [39] Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. [40] Let all things be done decently and in order.

    1 Timothy 2:9-15 KJV

[9] In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; [10] But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. [11] Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. [12] But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. [13] For Adam was first formed, then Eve. [14] And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. [15] Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

    Titus 2:3-5 KJV

[3] The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; [4] That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, [5] To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Hi Janice More than likely hay and mud also rectangular with walls to keep the animals fed, the word manger

pertains to feeding hence the Messiah is Our bread of Life! or Manna From Heaven. This is short version.
