If a man does good works, not because he is told to by the Bible or "faith" but does good works because of a good heart his whole life. Sure he sins but reflects and tries to learn and become a better person. Ie helping others and never expecting a reward etc is that man not a better person and would be judge kindly rather than a man doing good works because he is told to by the Bible? Doesn't god see the heart rather than only see a title of Christian. Many Christians don't really do good works from the heart they do it as check marks" to go to heaven.

My question is if god is a kind , loving, and a fair just god. I don't see how every other culture ( such as China, India ) where culture may prevent them from believing in jesus will perish? It seems like being a ' Christian " is like a special in club where they only believe they are good enough. How can god work like this? I would hate to think that god judges people like that.

If god knows us and knows our hearts and we are made in his image. By reason he gave us the most precious gift of reasoning, thinking, morals to use. If you sim and we all do, as long as you aim to better yourself why would god dismiss that?

Wouldn't you think a whole life of doing good from your heart ( despite your religion) would be better to god than someone on death after eating his last meal of chicken, then accepted Jesus as his lord and savior?

This is just one of the things that confuse me.

Hello Henry,

Those in the Upper room at Pentecost were believers. They believed that Jesus was the Savior, that He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for us and rose up from the dead. That is the Gospel message, as Paul states in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8.

These disciples, including the 11 apostles, were born again because one needs to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit to be able to believe the Gospel message and trust in Jesus to save from sin. Many, perhaps all, of these disciples had been visited by the risen Lord prior to His ascension into heaven. The apostles had witnessed His ascension. They obeyed Jesus to tarry in Jerusalem until the promised Spirit came to them, which He did at Pentecost. They were in prayer when the Spirit manifested in the Upper Room with tongues of fire and caused the BELIEVERS to speak in tongues.

As Giannis said, Jesus called His apostles clean at the Last Supper. He also told them that the Father had chosen them and that had secured them to where they could not be snatched away from Him. So, even before the Last Supper, these apostles were saved (born again). They went out to preach the good news even before Jesus' death, performed miracles, and abided with Jesus daily during His ministry. These are all indications that these men where indeed born again. And one cannot be born again without the work and indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost was a fulfillment of Jesus' promise of God's (His) Presence with the apostles after He would be taken up to heaven. The manifestations of the Spirit at Pentecost was an outward sign of an inward work that was already present. Jesus breathed the on the apostles before the ascension, saying "Receive the Holy Spirit". The Holy Spirit only is received by a believer.

Therefore, there are multiple Scriptural references to the fact that the apostles were believers and born again before Pentecost.

I have never known a student who did not study, stay up all night drinking and partying. At the end of the year he graduated.... John 1:12 would be one place in scripture. But please note that it says receive, not accept. A person must receive Christ. I don't know of any verse that says to accept Him. The Bible does say that we must receive Him. There is a difference between accept and receive. To accept just means to mentally agree with something.

My comment is that salvation is conditional whether people believe it or not, because its what the Bible says. It's full of calls to action and challenging us to change our behavior. Most people will not be saved Matthew 7:13. Salvation is with grace but is only for believers/followers- a choice that each person must make. One way to summarize this action appears to be genuine belief and faith in Jesus Christ. John 3:16. That is an action and choice.

So, if someone does not believe, one can presume the unbeliever will not be saved. This already "offends" a lot of people, because some want to justify themselves in their own mind while doing the bare minimum they assume God wants. Some have been deceived into believing obeying God is "bad." But believing is only one of many action verbs the Bible challenges us to do. Other actions fall under this category of genuine active belief and following Jesus too. All these verses in the Bible are true and are equally important. Some like to cherry pick one, but ignore others and assume they don't apply, but they all apply and are true and are God's word.

There are many more. Some falsely assume by obeying God they are doing 'works' and that is 'bad', therefore, obeying God is 'bad'. No, that's not what the Bible says, and obeying doesn't mean you're saved by works or that people who obey believe that.

My last comment is that James and Paul are consistent. Some assume Paul was anti-works, but only if you cherry pick a few verses and ignore large parts of his book can that conclusion be drawn. Paul was very much pro-obedience as the following verses demonstrate:

Further thoughts on Revelation 17

The beginning of the chapter in verses 1-5 has been defined traditinally by many Reformers in particular as the Roman Catholic church. There is much in the color of the robes and ornate processions and the overall grandeur of Vatican City which certainly at least partially defines this apostate religion. However; we need to see the future and final fulfillment; and realistically assess the whole ecumenical movement in the last 20 years or so to realize that much of what were bastions of the faith in mainline churches such as Presbyterian; Baptist; and Methodist congregations are just as far gone; and often have traditions very similar to this. This would encompass certain elements of the Greek Orthodox and probably Coptic churches as well.

There is no reason to exclude the mystical branches of Islam (who are considered apostate by other Muslims). There is much eastern occultic influence among those who call themselves Jews today; many of which follow a cultural type of religion; and/or steeped in the Talmud which really had its roots with some of the Parasitical doctrines as well as other gnostic teachings which crept into both Jewish and Christian circles since the time of Christ.

Verse 8 is revealing because not only could it refer to the apparent resurrection of Antichrist in Zechariah 11:17 but also could refer to the appearance of Satan at the end of the Millennium period after being hidden in the bottomless pit the whole 1000 years. In either case; unregenerate men not in the Book of Life still will be drawn into the rebellion. Time simply doesn't change a man's heart; only a supernatural change (see Ezekiel 36:26). I like the story when Nicodemus comes to Christ in the night! Nicodemus ,afraid He would be found out by His peers, Knows there is something He must find out about! His question of being born again and re entering His Mother's womb? This story in the book of John you will find as you begin reading from the first chapter. Many wish to know the hidden truths even like Nicodemus. Understanding Christ words would require complete "submersion" in His words!

Revelation 17

The great city that rules over the kings of the earth in verse 18 has been discussed by others here. It would seem more likely in recent years that the city planned to be built in the Middle East (I believe Dubai or Abu Dhabi) that is to be some 30 times larger than New York City and largely run by drones) is a likely location. This is bolstered by the fact that the Vatican along with others have been planning to build a multi religious facility for the Monotheistic (Muslim; Christian and Jewish) faiths.

When studying the 10 kings in verses 12-17 under the beast in verse 11; we see an eventual overthrow (probably at the midpoint of the 7 year Tribulation) of the woman on the beast.

This shows that the false religion and it's epicenter (possibly Rome in this case) is destroyed so that Satan himself can be worshipped who is behind all of this and the beast going into perdition in verse 11. There are interesting parallels to Judas Iscariot here who also existed for the 3 1/2 years of Christ's ministry which is the same amount of time Antichrist will totally rule. We have seen hints of this sort of plan at the recent ceremony in Great Britain (can't remember the name but maybe better not to state it here). We certainly can look at the UN stamp and medals with the Tower of Babel and its associated 12 star occultic imagery; as well as the figures of a woman on a beast on stamps and in statues in recent years as well.

The basic theme here is that it is the "Mystery Babylon" religion causing martyrdom initially; but later on with the mark of the beast we see the second phase of killings for not taking the mark. Surely; Antichrist will appear to be the fulfillment of man's dreams and aspirations in New Age; the final Prophet in Islam; the supposed Messiah for the Jews and the self made man for everyone else (again by the sixth seal atheists will no longer exist). Once entrapped; Antichrist alone is to be venerated and life is expendable.

1 Corinthians 4:5 speaks volume to us since saints understand the mysteries revealed to the faithful and Romans 1:6 & Romans 8:28. For saints know Isaiah 5:20. We are where we are today. God is so great to allow us to do things in life in our own free will where in the end The Glory belongs to God. God allowed me to have worked with great scientists in America with great heart. I do not need to understand and question everything at the spare of the moment. I just know the paths God lead me in was not to question authorities in the land. God has the heavenly plans and those are what I am and every saint must be very excited about. When you walk in the Spirit of God, you are like in a trance. Next thing you know someone tells you on earth job well done. Not to boast but again and again to Glorify God because He helped you to do job well done. I can control only me and hopefully have a strong influence with my family and friends and anybody that touches my life to follow God as I walk the walk and talk the talk. Even 1 Timothy 5:4 saints take it to heart. All is good with God James 1:17 and all are Your's 1 Corinthians 3:21-23. I know It is easy said and done here on earth. We all have afflictions and to some unbearable 2 Corinthians 6:4. I thank God for the blood of Jesus Christ for that power is in everyone who put his trust, faith and believe in that He will never leaves you. Psalms 91 memorize!

So reading Romans 11 I was thinking if I wanted to be Jewish couldn't I be one, after all it is a choice right. We are all seeds of Noah and that being true how can one group of people be more Jewish or in Gods favor if we are all from the same seed?

Interesting thread, can we understand the wisdom of God? God is light and no darkness is in Him. "God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man". Can we understand what was done to Job? Can we understand why God allowed Satan limited control over the earth? Do we know why all the deaths, wars, and evil are allowed to be on earth? Do we overlook Jesus was sacrificed not only to reconcile things on the earth but also to reconcile things in heaven Colossians 1:20?

Did God allow Adam and Eve to sin? God has declared the end from the beginning and many things we have not been told, there come speculation that man is good at, self-included. There are two Adams in scripture and God's plan was before the world was. Can we ask the question, was the first Adam's purpose to start mankind; or was it for the same reason the last Adam was manifested that Satan had no clue? 1 John 3:8.

We cannot come close to grasping the wisdom of God and His plan. We must humble ourselves; we have been given a choice to accept the grace God has given us in the sacrifice of His only begotten Son. If we accept this gift of salvation, we give this fleshly life to Him.

God is in control, not free will, whether we understand it or not and we must trust God with what happens to us in this life even if we are killed. A time is coming when many will be. Our hope is not in this life but in the life to come.
