The events recorded in Revelation 11 are still in our future, not in our past.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
Part 2.
Here's a similar argument between the Desciples in Acts 15:5-11. But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
NOW THEREFORE WHY TEMPT YE GOD, TO PUT A YOKE UPON THE NECK OF THE DISCIPLES, WHICH NEITHER OUR FATHERS NOR WE WERE ABLE TO BEAR?
But we believe that THROUGH THE GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WE SHALL BE SAVED,
( EVEN AS THEY.)
God bless.
I concur Steve.
The Law was given to Israel. The law given was to convict us of sin.
2 Corinthians 3:6-14.
Galatians 3:11-13.
Romans 7:4-5.
Romans 7:9-10.
Some aspects of the Law such as the Sabbath pointed to Christ work on the Cross that would free us from the curse of the Law. " Death"
Colossians 2:11-17.
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the SABBATH DAYS:
HERE'S. THE KEY IN VERSE 17.
Vs.17) "Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."
Israel "as a nation" regects Christ work on the cross so as of now the have yet to join in that rest.( Yet they honor the Sabbath!)
Please study Hebrews 4:2-11.
That rest comes after salvation. Not to obtain it.
If one wants to observe the sabbath go ahead, but if you do it to earn salvation you fall in the same unbelief as Israel.
The Galatians was warned of the same thing in Galatians 5:4. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."
Salvation is not for sell its a gift. Ephesians 2:8-9. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
I hope this helps.
God bless.
The PROPHETS, remember.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant (Christ), whom I (the Father) uphold; mine (the Father's) elect (Christ), in whom my (the Father's) soul delighteth; I (the Father) have put my spirit upon him (Christ); HE (Christ) shall bring forth judgement to the Gentiles.
Isaiah 42:6 I the Lord (the Father) have called thee (Christ) in righteousness, and (I the Father) will hold thy (Christ's) hand, and give thee (Christ) for a covenant of the people, and a LIGHT to the GENTILES.
Christ not PAUL.
Paul was just the instrument of CHRIST.
Isaiah had already prophecied that the Jews would reject Christ.
Christ came to the Jews first to fulfill PROPHECY.
Isaiah 6:9 And he said, Go and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not, and see ye indeed and perceive not.
Matthew 13:14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive.
God Bless YOU.
A Lovely verse.
Paul says no day should be set above another in this age.
Paul teaches the opposite of what you said for this age Col 2:16.
Of course Jesus preached the sabbath he was a Jew and kept the Law.
Please read Gal 1-3, Eph 1-3 and Col 1-3 to understand Paul's gospel.
It is not the same as what Jesus taught.
Paul's gospel is called a mystery (secret) and was faith ALONE in the finished work of the cross.
Jesus nor the 12 taught this.
Read Peters sermon in Acts 2-3, he teaches the cross as a murder indictment.
Please read Jer 31:31-34, Eze 36:21-28 and Heb 8:8-10
The New Covenant belongs to "Israel and Judah"
This is the clear teaching of scripture, I understand this is not what church tradition teaches.
Paul says we SHOULD love another, Jesus taught that loving one another was REQUIRED for salvation.
The book of 1 John is clear loving was REQUIRED.
Jesus mistered to Israel the gospel of the kingdom. (Israel's prophesied and promised earthly kingdom.)
Paul ministers to ALL the gospel of the grace of God, and it was a mystery.
Please do a word study on the word Mystery.
the great tribulation your referring to happened already in 70 A.D. The destruction of Jerusalem. which Jesus predicted..
Mt 24:1 (KJV) And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
Mt 24:2 (KJV) And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Jesus also said there will never be another time like that..... Mt 24:21 (KJV) For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Malachi 4:5-6 is a clear reference to John the Baptist
Mal 4:5 (KJV) Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Mal 4:6 (KJV) And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
Lu 1:16 (KJV) And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
Lu 1:17 (KJV) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Yes, Jesus did send Paul to preach Christs Gospel - not a different gospel!
Paul and all of the apostles observed God's 10 Commandments per the scriptures.
Paul and the Apostles taught both Jews and Gentiles to follow God's Commandments, including the 4th Commandment, Keep holy the Sabbath Day.
Acts 13:42
"And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath."
Acts 13:44
"And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God."
Under the "New Covenant" which is the Church of Jesus Christ, consists of Jews and Gentiles, and they are all treated the same! No difference. Remember the Gentiles were a wild olive tree. The believing Gentiles branches from the wild olive tree have been grafted into the original Jewish olive tree. Those that produce good fruit can stay in place and thrive. If a branch does not produce it is broken off and burned.
Jesus Christ asks us to keep the Commandments. John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments." How can we say we love Jesus, but then we don't try our best to follow the Commandments? The answer" You can't love Jesus and NOT keep "The Commandments"!
As Christian's (Christ Followers) we need to pick up our crosses and follow Jesus, and in doing so, pray that the Holy Spirit will help us along, in the ongoing struggle to follow all of Jesus/God's commands! This then, would be in conformance with the scripture, that show us that Paul, Peter, and all of the Apostles had their own personal struggles to follow and keep God's Commandments.
In summary, Paul does not cancel anything that Jesus taught and instructed in His Gospel.
GB you
I, for one, believe that Jesus is our Teacher (the ultimate "apostle" sent by God) to show us the way of salvation. His words are for me and all people, not just for the Jews. To replace Jesus with Paul as our main teacher is a slap in the face to our Lord who sacrificed Himself for us. Paul's teachings uphold the teachings of Jesus, not supersede them nor replace them.
I found a good explanation of "holy" on the site "Got Questions"
What does it mean that God is holy? and also an article you can click on at the bottom of this article mentioned that speaks about how believers are called to be holy. I recommend reading it.
If I may share something with you on the word holy. First, I would like to say that there's some truth to what this person is saying. If you remember years ago, a bracelet they were selling with the letters WWJD on it? It stood for What Would Jesus Do. At first I thought that would be something "cool" to wear. I mean, what would Jesus do if He were in my situation? But since then, I found out the entire message read "What would Jesus do if He were here." Well, now that WWJD message does not sit right with me. Why? Because He is here. I know He's not here physically, but He's here in the form of His Spirit, and He lives in me.
The word holy, the word saint, the word sanctify, and the word sanctification all come from the same Greek word (HAGIOS). The word HAGIOS means to be set apart. As believers who have been born of God's Spirit, we are holy, or set apart. But please know that being holy has nothing to do with our human performance. Many see the word holy and think it's something we must strive to be, and they put forth a lot of effort to become holy, or "Christlike." and they work hard at it. But being holy simply means that we have been set apart for God's purposes.
We who have received Christ have been sanctified (HAGIOS/set apart), we are saints by calling (HAGIOS/set apart), and we are holy (HAGIOS/set apart). Again, being holy has nothing to do with human performance. It is God's Spirit in us that has made us holy, and it is God's Spirit in us that God will see one day when we stand before Him.
That may be why this person is saying we must be holy to enter into heaven, not because of anything we've done, but because the Spirit that lives in us, He is holy. God makes us holy by giving us His Spirit, setting us apart from the world, and using us for His glory
Without knowing what this person truly believes, I cannot say one way or another that I can fully agree or disagree. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the word holy.
God Bless!!!
Heb 4:4 (KJV) For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
Heb 4:5 (KJV) And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
Heb 4:6 (KJV) Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Heb 4:7 (KJV) Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Heb 4:8 (KJV) For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
verse 1
For, Behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven - The destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D.
And all the proud - This is in reference to Mal 3:15 of the preceding chapter.
The day that cometh shall burn them up - Either by famine, by sword, or by captivity. All those rebels shall be destroyed.
It shall leave them neither root nor branch - A proverbial expression for total destruction. Neither man nor child shall escape.
verse 5
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet - This is meant alone of John the Baptist, as we learn from Lu 1:17, in whose spirit and power he came.
There are three remarkable predictions in this chapter: -
1. The advent of John Baptist, in the spirit and authority of Elijah.
2. The manifestation of Christ in the flesh, under the emblem of the Sun of righteousness. verse 2
3. The final destruction of Jerusalem, represented under the emblem of a burning oven, consuming every thing cast into it.
These three prophecies, relating to the most important facts that have ever taken place in the history of the world, announced here nearly four hundred years before their occurrence, have been most circumstantially fulfilled.
Are you implying that all 4 gospels by Matthew, Mark, Luke, John are actually Old Testament? So the teachings in Matthew 5-7 are OT teachings? Didn't Jesus change the commandements of OT, by often saying "it was said in the old times...but I say"? Why did He change commandements that were valid for about 1500 years? Just to be valid for the next 3 1/2 years and then... end...the grace begins?(assuming that they were still OT teachings) Sorry but this doesn't seem right to me. Changing the commandements shows a change in Testament. Jesus came for the Jews really, to reveal them the grace that was to come and the commandements of God that accompany this grace. Later the apostles, mainly Paul, preached about this same grace to all nations.
Of course the promises given to Israel were actually different from those given to the church. The promises given to Israel were of the form "If you obey Me, then I will bless you with health, riches, possesions etc ...material promises, since salvation and eternal life were yet to be revealed. The promise given to the church is mainly eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus, but still God is our Father that takes care all of our needs, material and spiritual. Of course we go through difficult situations in life but God promises that we are going to be winners if we rely on Him. There are so many verses about this in the Gospel and I am not going to go over them. I think you need to see the Gospel in a different perception.
GBU
I just finished the last book of the Old Testament. Malachi is an interesting book. You know what I dont quite understand when the bible talks about the Earth will dissolve away and the Sun will refuse to shine. Does this mean that the Earth and the Sun will melt like a straw in the furnis. The scientist say we have a million years left. Could this be the rapture where all the good are taken and the rest are left? Like Noahs ark? Noah only needed what he needed.
.....Without this Abrahamic Trinity....Father, Son and Granson scenario....There cd not have been the 12 tribes....That resulted in the nation of Israel...Like wise in the spiritual realm there has to be an Israel of God....There has to be a perfect Israel....Be ye PERFECT as your father in heaven is PERFECT....Thats y Jesus will go forth to sow his PERFECT seed in humanity....Which are Spirits, The contents of that BOOK..in the fathers right hand...That New Covenant...Which will result in the BABES and SUCKLINGS...The Gransons ...Which are Spirits the H.G...Many as the stars of Heaven...Which answers to our New hearts and new Spirits...an Israel of God...That cannot sin simply b/c they are born of God via that good seed of Christ Jesus....That was the Great Promise that Christ wd be multiplied as the stars of Heaven..We be the woman in birth pains.
A lot of people ask about Lot and what he allowed to happen. I wonder why.
This might be one to add to the new site for numerous posts on a subject. I have a folder in notes, called People of the Bible. Might be a good topic on the KJV room :D
