Hello, you wrote "Is slavery taught in the Bible. Most definitely."

Slavery isn't taught in the Bible. The Bible doesn't say anyone should have slaves. It is a sin to harm others.

Are you talking about real slavery or only as a metaphor for submitting to God?

First understand that in ancient times, if you wanted to give your inheritance to someone other than him, the language is, so and so( The firstborn) I gave hated. So and so, (The person now receiving the inheritance, or the inheritance of the firstborn.) I have loved.

Romans 9:11 makes it clear that this "change of inheritance" (I.e. the Gentiles receiving the foremost position in Gods eyes and not the nation of the Jews), and thus Essau losing his position as the firstborn, had nothing at all to do with his actions as the decision was made prior to the birth of the twins.

What Essau did or didn't do had nothing to do with anything other than God illustrating the fact that being in the firstborn position, as Israel was, is a decision God made. Not to condemn Essau, but to illustrate His extension of mercy to those who didn't deserve it. Israel, and Essau both, did deserve the judgement through there own actions, LATTER ON, but the decision to graft in the Gentiles, and give the inheritance that was due to the Israelites as disintegrate Essau was made before those actions were in any way justified. In Gods foreknowledge He KNEW the choices that would be made. And God knew that by Israels rejection, and thus offering salvation/mercy to the Gentiles, He could then offer salvation and mercy back to Israel. Rom 11:11-24.

Note: there is no evidence that Essau did not repent of His sins and didn't come to God. Just as there is no evidence that quite a few from the nation of Israel did not turn to Christ, and even more from that nation will be grafted into the kingdom even in revelation.

I count 5. Like 2:4 "family of David", Acts 7:14, joseph's family, Acts 13:26, Abrahams family, Eph. 3:15 family in heaven, and 1Ti. 5:4 " in regard to their own family"
  • EmethAlethia - In Reply - 3 years ago
First understand that there are a number of Hebrew words translated as "family". Strong's Hebrew H4940 is used 75 verses a total of 122 times. In the NASB there are 88 verses using the translated word " family".

The Bible acknowledges that slavery has existed for almost all recorded history. It still exists in many countries today. The passage on submitting to others in Ephesians 5 and 6 includes, "Slaves be obedient to your masters... With sincerity of heart as to Christ." Indeed, all Christians are "Bondslaves" to Christ. Slavery is Christian in every way. Not that we should make others our slaves, but that he who is the greatest among us is the slave of all. Mat. 20:27 we exist to serve our Master, our Lord, and to serve all others. Is slavery taught in the Bible. Most definitely. All Christians exist to figure out and do the will of their Master, and to serve all others till the day we die. Indeed, for Christians, being slaves, and creating more of them who willingly dedicate themselves to serving our Lird and Master is commanded.

The context. The "Law" in verses7-9 refers to the Pentateuch. The 5 books of Moses. The purpose of the Law, according to Galations 3:24-25 is to be a tutor to lead us to Christ. The Law shows how utterly sinful we are. Romans 7-8. It shows us how utterly incapable of doing good that we are and that at our best we cannot come close to the righteousness of God. God demands a payment for sin. The sacrificial system was established to show that without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sins. No salvation is possible apart from that sacrifice. The pure lamb sacrificed for you and I is Jesus Christ Himself. In 1Ti.1 Paul says that righteous people need not fear the Law.verses 8-9. But the consequences for those who violate it, the "Lawless", those who violate His laws with impunity, the rebellious, those who have no God, no Lord to over, those who sin with impunity, the unholy and profane, those who kill their own family and others, those who violate all the commands of God with regards to sexual behavior, those who abduct and turn others into slaves, liars and those who bear false witness, and everything else contrary to what is written in the Law, shows that those that are in violation will face the judgment of God. From.1:18-32. Verse 32 states that even this totally rejecting the fact that there is a God at all all know their judgment is sure. " and although they know the ordinance of God, that those that practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice such things." God wrote these things into the very hearts of all men. From. 1:18-21 All men KNEW God. But the suppress, reject and exchange the truth God built into every man to hold fast to lies and, verse 32, choose to not even acknowledge Him any longer. The Law gives us the knowledge of sin, and the many ways we fall short. Christ, accepting His payment, that can never be earned, deserved or maintained by works, is the only way

You asked for verses that will make forgiveness doable. The first is Mat. 18:21-35. It's the parable of the slave who owed his master 10,000 talents. The weight of a talent is close to 1 lb. To give perspective. If in gold, the national debt around 1960 was pretty close. For the average income, assuming no interest accrues, and a work period of 40 years, you'd have had to be born before Christ was and give every penny to be close. ( The word forgive means no red ink. No debt owed. Free and clear of all obligations and responsibility.) The king "forgave" the entire debt. All gone. All forgiven. Not a single dime to repay. Unfortunately, the forgiven slave either didn't understand the severity and extent of the debt he had and was forgiven for, or missed the mercy and cost to the king for absorbing such a loss to himself, because when a fellow slave who owed him 3 months wages was discovered, he had no mercy. He demanded his fellow slave pay back the rather substantial debt. (Three months wages lost would mean financial hardship for most families, for sure.) And when the slave could not pay and asked for mercy, he refused and threw him into prison until the could pay back all that was owed. If understand the severity of our debt to Christ, and that His extended "forgiveness" of that debt KILLED His Son to release us, and redeem us, and we see the truth and perspective that the severest debt others owe us for their crimes and sins against us is three months pay, Jesus says in Mat. 18:32-35, that our debts are reinstated in full as well. We will be,"Handed over to the torturers until we repay every penny." God does the exact same to everyone,"If they do not forgive your brother from your heart." Verse 35. " He who is forgiven much loves much. He who is forgiven little loves little" Luke 7:47 If we understand the forgiveness of God, the grace, the price to redeem us from our sins, the cost of our forgiveness, that Christ died on the cross for you. Forgivess is attainable

    Sheila,

I see you found your answer. I'd like to add. Here in the United States of America, we celebrate the Independence of our Nation this week. As Christians; that independence is our strongest defense of Our GOD given rights to worship, sing, praise GOD openly, spread the good news of the Gospel & obey GOD. The core foundation of USA, was driven by believers that were willing to lose everything to make our country free from tyrannical government, for our basic freedoms of Life, freedom to worship, freedom of speech, freedom of press, right to protect our freedom within the right to keep and bear arms. Within the core foundational documents we even have the rights to abolish the form of government when it has a long train of abuses. In every State Constitution & within The US Constitution & Declaration of Independence it is We The People, that are established as the authority. Therefore we have the Rights of the GOD blessed & established Governing Authority. One Nation under GOD, In GOD We Trust, GOD Bless America, all also established Legal phrases locked into our Nation, that I believe has continued GOD's blessing on our nation. Please see the statement of the Church of Philadelphia (noting also the US Mint, that prints every currency "In GOD We Trust", the U.S. Constitution, & The U.S. Declaration of Independence were signed ) says "._.hast not denied my name" Revelation 3:7-8, could this be the Church established through these, in Philadelphia USA, that continues to fight, pray, worship & stand today? That "hast kept my word" is it these foundational documents that very "I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength" please read The Declaration of Independence, individual States Constitutions. Never stop seeking GOD's wisdom, direction, & guidance for yourself & Our Nation. For It's with these freedoms we help liberty of Christ around the globe!

    Texsis,

Did Jesus tell us to be baptized ? Yes he did.

    Matthew 28:19

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Jesus and all of His Apostles, including Paul were baptized (in water), and they followed Jesus commands and baptized others in water.

Easy to understand, but leave it to man to confound himself!

    God bless

But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: ( Titus 2:1)

The Bible tells us we lived with God before we were born.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ( Job 38:4,7)

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. ( Jeremiah 1:5)

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 2 (Timothy 1:9)

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: ( Ephesians 1:4)

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: ( 1 Corinthians 2:7)

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; (Titus1:2)

(A Prayer of Moses the man of God.) Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (Psalms: 90:1-2)

God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. ( Romans 11:2)

She was with our Lord before and during the creation of the world.

Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; ( Proverbs 8:30)

Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

    ( Proverbs 8:4, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27)

Dear Wanda , I believe that we have to read the Bible and learn from the lives of the people that we read about , especially of course , Jesus . Read all of the Bible to find out many great and powerful life lessons but pay particular attention to the Gospels and the life of and teachings of Jesus . He is our perfect example . He will teach you everything you need to know about love and forgiveness if you open your heart and mind to him . It can be very hard to forgive some one who has repeatedly hurt you badly , I know this , but you can do it , Jesus will show you how if you let him .
  • Sheila on Titus 3 - 3 years ago
This more of a question. In Titus 3:1 it tells us to obey our government. If a government by the people has and is leading Christians away from God and His commandments a government that lies, cheats, steals and eat up Gods people like the eat bread that government? Even when that government no longer hides their immoral actions in fact boast about them, a government by the people who chooses to destroy a nations and kill their citizens for power ? That government we as Christians are supposed to obey?

    Hi Albert.

Neither Cain, Abel, or Seth was perfect, this is why there was a need for a blood sacrifice. When we look at the book of Hebrews we find out that they were instructed to bring a sacrifice in that manner. Hebrews-11-4. "Faith comes by hearing" Romans 10:17.

So Abel's sacrifice was offered by faith because he had faith in what was preached to him and he showed that by his offering.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

There is a huge difference between bapt. in water and bapt. in Spirit. They are different things that serve different purposes. Bapt. in Spirit is mainly for sanctification, bapt. in water is the official testimony of a christian before people. Baptism in water is a man's work to do, baptism in the Spirit is God's work to do.

Lets consider salvation as a covenant between God and man. It is like having an agreement/covenant that has to be signed by both sides to become officially valid. God signs the papers by new birth, man has also to put his signature on the papers otherwise the agreement is not valid. His signature is to get baptised in water. It then that the covenant becomes official and lawful.

The vision I described in my post is true, not fake. For me it is a proof from God that what I've been taught about bapt. in w/r is right. But the yardstick we use to see what is true or not is not visions or dreams but the Word of God. So let's see the incident that Peter went to preach salvation to Cornelius. As he was preaching to people that were present there, they got baptised in the Spirit. Was it considered by Peter as enough? Acts 10:47 "And he COMMANDED them to be baptized in the name of the Lord...." Pay attention please, Peter didn't say" if you please like to.., would you like to.. ? How about ..?". He ordered them to be baptized in water. It is compulsory, not a choise, not a likeness. It has to be done. New birth is essential for salvation, as Jesus described to Nicodemus. But it is not the only condition to be fulfilled. Baptism in water is also a condition for salvation, as the verses that I posted before state. So one has to go through both to be saved. There are so many incidents in the Acts where baptism in water is involved. Philip and the treasurer of the Ethiopians, Phillip and people in Samaria, Paul and the disciples in Ephesus, Paul and the prison guard in Philippii. It is always a priority for apostles.to baptize believers.

  • Offerings that please God - In Reply - 3 years ago
Jealousy caused him to murder his brother.

Abel's sacrifice was a blood offering to God.

Cain was a farmer. His offering was not out of abundance of the heart. He held back from abundance, and God did explain why his offering was not accepted. Rather than please God, he simmered in anger and resentment until jealousy was in full bloom; he murdered Abel. Abel's blood cried out to God.

I guess when failures bubble up into resentment, is the time to stop everything and forgive; especially when we are blaming someone else. Blame is a flame that doesn't go out_until we forgive.

Hello, no it doesn't. Slavery was a world problem and still is today. Today slaves- sometimes children- are even allowed to be trafficked into the US and the administration actually removed part of the border wall to make this easier for criminals to enter.

Some assume the Bible condones it because it has verses addressing slaves to be respectful of others. Colossians 4:1. This applies to everyone of course.

There is another angle on this: in the Bible days some voluntarily became "slaves" in order to pay off debt. Voluntarily doing work is closer to a job than slavery in my opinion, but I believe some call it that. If its 100% against someone's will then I think its slavery, but if someone voluntarily chooses something even if they perceive to not have many choices, then it it's a job. Some worked years for men in order to gain rights to marry a man's daughter, for instance.

This verse suggests that is someone is caught trafficking slaves to put them to death: Exodus 21:16. Other Bible verses like love your neighbor as yourself refute the myth that the Bible supports slavery. The message of Christianity is freedom, not slavery. The truth is true, regardless of what the evil world claims or thinks. Some will prefer the lie, because its more attractive to them. Lots of myths would be cleared up if people just read through the Bible.

In the East objects are carried in the bosom which Europeans "carry in the pocket. To have in one's bosom indicates kindness," "secrecy, or intimacy ( Gen. 16:5; 2 Sam. 12:8). Christ is said to" "have been in "the bosom of the Father," i.e., he had the most" "perfect knowledge of the Father, had the closest intimacy with" "him ( John 1:18). John (13:23) was "leaning on Jesus' bosom" at" "the last supper.

Our Lord carries his lambs in his bosom, i.e. has a tender, watchful care over them ( Isa. 40:11).

I truly believe the Lord had an angel walk your little one to your room. It's precious and terrifying.

My 4yr old and I were swimming in a creek on the 4th of July when he was 4. He was with the grandparents and he saw me. I was sitting in a limestone slide. He took off running for me as I let go and went over the little falls into 5' of water. I turned just in time to see him go over the falls. I pulled him up immediately but I saw the terror in his face. I wasn't going to let him be afraid of water. We sat on a raft by the bank until he quit crying. I said I will always save you when you fall. He was never afraid of water again.

Our daily prayers for our kids, go with them.

Especially these days we have to protect them from addiction to internet; no matter how much they protest.
  • Adam - In Reply - 3 years ago
Hi Leon, I can try answering your questions.

First question: church organizations are not free government services, but cost lots of money to exist: building, property, taxes, utilities, maintenance, staff, like ministers who do that full time also have to have money to live. Members help pay for this. It's not wrong to ask members and attendees to pay a fair share, to contribute and not just be a parasite. Most do not coerce and some don't even ask. There is Biblical support to ask people to support churches.

Second question: most churches don't show Jesus in any likeness or representation, because of verses like: Exodus 20:4-5. When I see pictures of Jesus online they are not in fancy clothes. In fact I have never seen that. What church denomination are you referring to that shows such pictures?

Third question: I'm beginning to think you are talking about catholicism by chance? Because the answer to your 3rd question is the Christian churches who follow the Bible don't not do that. It's wrong to worship Mary and the Pope, and no one else comes between you and the father, but Jesus. John 14:6. God bless.

He that KNOWETH My name shall be saved.

we see trials came and tribulations took Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah from their Lands of origin.

So also, in trials and tribulations , we too must seek our new name.

And we see the new names given to them Belteshazzar, shadrach, meshach and Abednego,

As they entered the new kingdom,

If we would realize how great our God (Jesus Christ) is . According to Ephesians 4:5 1LORD,1 FAITH, 1 BAPTISM. There would not be so much confusion in who God is. There is over 2000 different religions? Why ? There is only 1God 1 Lord 1Faith 1baptism . What I am trying to say is we believe the Bible like we should and stop following traditions. There wouldn't be so much confusion in the Church organization. The confusion should be out in the World. Our Lord is Jesus Christ, Our faith is based on the Apostles doctrine. One baptism Acts 2:38 Than Peter said unto them Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Than we can thank God who he really is. David I really believe in this chapter knew God is one , and one Lord. That's why He had such a great relationship with God before trouble came he knew God. Than when we get in a place of trouble we know what our God - JESUS CHRIST CAN do, He's my Sword my shield,my deliver. I want tell a testimony that happen awhile ago. In a large city of 850,000 people. We went out to eat, than came back to our Hotel . Our daughter and her family stay at one end of Hotel, were the stairs is. My wife and I at the other end. So about 15minutes pass by ,we our about to lay down. I hear a small tap at the door. ,I was by the door already,

I look at my wife and said to her did you hear that ? I answer it ! I said who is it ? This little voice said it's me! I opened the door,to my surprise its our youngest granddaughter . She looked frighten,so we said were's your Mom ? My wife took a look outside the room,Hm no one there. So we thought they dropped her by to get some rest. My wife took her back to our Daughter & Son n Law room. Didn't realize she slipped out. From that moment they were in shock thinking what could of happened. My wife came back to our room & told me that they were all asleep, she WALK out.We gave God praise for his MERCY!

    Hi Wanda.

Here's just my opinion, Hopefully others can help.

I believe it's prayer not a particular verse to meditate on is what's needed. However God may cause you to remember verse you have read or send a message or messenger to you, but I personally believe your focus should be on prayer and let God provide you the fruit needed for your request such as Forgiveness, Longsuffering, ect. these are things we can't manifest ourselves. I will say this, God knows what you need before you ask.

    God bless.

Hi , some one recently asked about an age of accountability but I can't find exactly where so I shall answer here if thats ok , just going from what God Himself has said in the Old Testament , these things may be worth consideration : Israelites were not permitted to go to war until they were twenty years old , Levites were not lowed to help carry the Tabernacle until they were twenty five years old and Levites were not permitted to perform priestly duties such as offering sacrifices etc until they were thirty years old and , the adults that wandered the dessert for forty years were not allowed to enter the promised land but their 'children ' of twenty years old and under were allowed to enter the promise land .

    Hi Texsis.

    Thanks for replying.

I believe the question is, "is water baptism ESSENTIAL for salvation?" No! It's the Holy spirit that gives life to a sinner dead in trespasses and sin.

Ephesians 1:22- Ephesians 2:1 "And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins."

I was water baptized, it was ritual and pointed to what has already taken place once I believed. I was put into the body of believers by the spirit."

Now whatever good I do is by the power of the Holyspirit. that is what the baptism is all about. A NEW LIFE! The focus is on the resurrection! By which way were we given new life?

Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4.

The disciples were given a command to go out teach all nations baptizing them, which was a dispensational teaching. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matt 28:19.

What we have here is a picture of those being saved grafted into the genuine vine, one that gives life and produces fruit as seen in john 15:1-5. And Paul hammers at this in Romans 11.

The emphasis is on the Holyspirit empowering the believer.

    God bless.

    Hi Texsis.

Thanks for pointing that out. It should read "Here we have the quickening spirit by the "last" Adam that gives life under a new covenant where the old covenant brought death to the fleshly descendants of the first Adam. 1 Corinthians 15:45-50.

    God bless.
