    ..continued

The chapter ended with Moses being commanded by God to memorialize this battle in the book and to recount it in the hearing of Joshua that God would utterly blot out Amalek from under heaven. Moses built an altar and named it "The Lord is My Banner." or YHWH-Nissi. How wonderful to know that God is over us like a banner that fights the battles foy us! Our victory comes from God, not from ourselves!

The Israelites were not a trained army yet. They were a million or so people, men/women/children. They had fled Egypt and are now out of Egypt (Sinai peninsula was still Egypt) in Midian. They most likely had not been met with many people up until now.

They were a ragamuffin band of people, not an army ready for battle.

But God fought for them. God instructed Moses to make a memorial. Not that the Israelites won the battle, but that God had gained the victory for them. So, the altar was like a victory banner that tells of the hero in a battle. YHWH-Nissi. God is our banner, He is the victor, the hero, the deliverer, the stronger, the determiner of the outcome. I should remember this, too.

Finally, I am getting back to Exodus.

    This chapter has two sections:

The Israelites arrive at Rephidim near Mt. Horeb. There is no water and the Israelites are very upset with Moses. God directs Moses to strike the rock so that water will flow out of it.

The Amalekites (descendants of Esau's grandson, Amalek) come from Edom to attack the Israelites. The israelites prevail in the battle when Moses' hands are raised and the Amalekites prevail when His arms tire and are lowered.

What impresses me is that God told Moses He would be with Moses at the rock. Was He next to Moses, in front of him, next to the rock , on top of the rock, behind or in front of the rock? How did God appear? Was it in the pillar of fire or some other way? The text does not specify, but it is clear that Moses could see God there.

The people were so upset at the lack of water that they wanted to stone Moses. Moses cries out to God for help. God instructs Moses to strike the rock with his rod. Moses obeys and water gushes out of the rock. The Israelites would not have been able to survive without his water. The water continued to flow so that they had ample water for their stay around Mt. Horeb (Sinai).

The Amalekites came down from Edom to attack the Israelites. It think archeological investigations show that Jabal El Lawz, the tallest mountain in Midian on the east side of the Red sea in the Gulf of Aqaba is most likely Mt. Horeb. This would make sense as the Amalekites would not have needed to travel far and may have felt that their borders were threatened by the Israelite nation.

The Amalekites attacked Israelites, not the other way around. Moses put Joshua in charge of the army while Moses, Aaron, and Aaron's son Hur, went up to a hill with the 'rod of God'. When Moses' arms became too heavy and tired, Aaron pulled up a rock to hold up Moses' to sit upon because and Aaron and Hur supported his hands since they became heavy and tired. They did this until sundown. Joshua won!
  • USING THE SEARCH ENGINE ON THIS WEBSITE - 3 years ago
When you come into this website you're on the LINK PAGE.

Up at the top is the SEARCH BOX. Links for the entire Bible is below that.

It's a really great SEARCH ENGINE, but just for Bible subject.

You can put the word 'Atonement' in the box and hit the arrow >

The engine will fetch every scripture that contains THAT word. You can sort the list; and the engine places the list in book order.

Or you can read either Old Testament verses only

    Or, New Testament verses only

With DATES OR HISTORY, you'll have to go on Google. Type it in like this:

    "Atonement, history".

By using all the search options, you'll learn some really awesome information. If search doesn't fetch anything try wording it differently.

If it fetches 10,000 verses; try wording it another wAy or just look at only OT or NT verses.

Look around on this whole website to see what's in it. If you get lost, just back out and come back in. Curious is good.

The location of the commentary box is below the search box. Touch a scripture and it will highlight Yellow. Scroll down slowly.

    Earl, I read John 17:22

Jesus is not speaking of His divine glory, but the glory God gave Him as the perfect human. We will receive this same glory when we are perfected in heaven, having perfect humanity like Jesus.

Isaiah 14 pertains to Lucifer too.

    Matthew 18:10

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones (child); for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

    Matthew 4:6

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

    Hebrews 13:2

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

    Luke Chapter 4

8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Only God the Father commands the angels.

Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer as a model to pray to our Father who art in Heaven. We form our prayers around the one Jesus gave to us. Personalize your requests.

Please note it starts: Hebrews 12:1, "Wherefore seeing we also ._.._"

Indicates this is connected to another statement. Please read Hebrews 11, then read Hebrews 12, together for better conext. Actually I believe starting with Hebrews 10:36-39, into Hebrews 11, continuing to Hebrews 12. Will give a more complete understanding of what's written.

No. The Bible speaks of a great clouds of witnesses. There is no mention of them seeing people on earth.

Why would we want them to see (future) pre-Rapture events taking place. Matthew 24 and Luke 21 are happening now. We need to get our heads out of Social Media chat, and look at SIGNS occurring on Earth right this minute.

    YouTube: TWO PREACHERS, NELSON WALTERS

Today USA is shown to be in severe drought__in springtime! Half the nation is in severe drought. Go look.

Half our nation is unable to PRODUCE FOOD AS USUAL. That's why grocery prices are escalating higher and higher.

All these SIGNS point to one thing__or to one Person. Jesus is about to return and catch up His Believers.

1 THOUGHT LEADERS are going to form a one world BANK AND WORLD-WIDE form of currency. Oil & Gas Wars have already begun.

    2. Their one world RELIGION is GREEN EARTH. Electric cars. GLOBAL WARMING. what's the use of electric Energy if there is NO WATER in the lakes, rivers, etc.

    See my point?

People are dabbling with HAARP Weather making devises (readily available for a price). Problem is, the massive floods they cause. Again, no crops grown_no food in the stores.

People/Politicians are "in" on this. They are not "for" the little people that pin their hopes on them; to solve the problems.

I'm not going to say anything else today. Just look at what I have told of. Prove me false or true.

Please please wake up. See the Truth.

    Forget buzzwords!

Read God's Word. All of this is in the Bible.

Dear Richard. The word angel originates. from the ancient Greek "angelos" which means "messenger". That is why the Scriptures always identify them as angels of the Lord, that is messengers of the Lord, it could have been angels of the king or of any other person. Now in the church God's messenger is usually the pastor who delivers God's word to the members of the church

    1 Corinthians 15:35

But some one possibly will say, How are the dead raised up, after their whole frame is dissolved? And with WHAT KIND of bodies do they come again, after these are mouldered into dust?

    2 Timothy 4:18

And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever.

    2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

    1 John 2:17

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abides FOREVER.

Philippians 3:21 - Who shall CHANGE our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself?

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 - So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in INCORRUPTION; It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Matthew 22:30 - For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

FLESH is corruptible. It gets old, damaged; amputations, crippled, paralyzed, blind, deaf, and etc.

Our new bodies will be like Jesus's body. Over 500 SAW JESUS after he was crucified and resurrected from the tomb. He ate food.

We will eat and drink. Jesus has made all provisions for us. Will will have homes; be reunited with people who died as Christians.

HAVE FAITH in what is recorded in the Bible Scriptures.

Read the Gospels, Book of Acts, Revelation; 2 Peter 3.

Don't let Satan rob you of your tender faith. Get stronger.

Tell others. Show them these scriptures. Even better, give them a Bible with these scriptures highlighted. Walmart has inexpensive Bibles.

I do not think Scripture supports that the first resurrection of saints has happened yet. I think Jesus speaks to raising us up on the last day, ( John 6:40)

"And this is the will of Him (Jesus' Father) who sent mem that everyone who sees the Son (Jesus) and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I (Jesus) will raise him (believer) up on the last day." (NIV)

So my understanding from what Jesus, our Lord and Saviour has said, we will be resurrected when He comes for the second time in history at the end of this age, on the last day. That is when our dead bodies will be raised and then changed into incorruptible and unperishable bodies like Jesus has and will enter everlasting life in this body.

Note: I quote NIV because that is the version I have at home in hard copy, so one can look up these Scriptures I cite as NIV in the KJV. The reason I came on this site in the first place was to read the KJV and '"whollah" found this discussion page.)

Dear Frances, after death the soul is separated from the dead body and goes either with or away from the Lord. In the parable or story of the rich man and Lazarus ( Luke 16:19-31) both souls were recognisable by both persons. So the soul has the same appearance as the physical body. During rapture the soul will be united again with the ressurected body but the bodies of people saved will be in a different form, they will be still bodies but spiritual ones, like Jesus Christ's glorified body.( 1 Corinthians 15:42-54). I would say a better response is that they are to respond as directed by God as messengers-that is why there is a sort of dual meaning to the "angel" of each church in Revelation 3 for instance. This could refer to the pastor/elder human authority; but also the angel presiding over that congregation. There probably are different roles for those angels remaining true to God just like with the fallen "principalities and powers" mentioned in Ephesians 6. Some are in charge of large regions; others for specific localities and others over the affairs of individuals. There are promises such as Psalm 91 and others where angels are said to be our "front and rear guard". With Christ when He was driven into the wilderness; and during His later trials had angels strengthen Him. They were always; of course following the lead of the Holy Spirit; hence they could NOT stand in the way of his ultimate trial from being completed; i.e. His death on the cross. As "ministering spirits" they surely strengthen us; and when necessary protect us. Daniel makes it clear that they are involved in invisible battles and well aware of prayers of saints (which often need to be persistant so that victory can be won as was the case with the 21 day delay fighting the Prince of Persia). Fasting also; no doubt plays a part as well in securing these victories. This should give us assurance because no one can harm us unless God allows it and in His timing. There is no doubt the enemy would find people to destroy us before the time if He were able. As long as we are walking in the Spirit; the enemy has no power over us.

In saying all this; it is not a healthy concept to envision some personal angel assigned to us. An angel of God never accepts worship; of course and wouldn't want any undue attention. He wouldn't thus hang around to "play favorites". In the heavenly realm angels would come in and go out of this dimension quickly and when needed.

    Dear Sarah

It depends where someone lives. In Europe Sunday is considered as the last day of the week, according to the International Standard System. In US Sunday is the first day of the week. For ancient Jews as well as early Christians, Sunday, (which Christians called Lord's Day) was the first day of the week, since Sabbath was the seventh and last day. GBU.

    Reply to Adam. Hebrews 10:

    Hebrews 10:26

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

The message here is a warning for all hearers, both saved and lost, not to turn away from God and go back into the world of sin, forsaking the things of Christ for the pleasures of the world. I do not agree with those who interpret this passage to mean Christians can turn their back on the Lord and return to the world of sin after they have been born again by the indwelling Holy Spirit who will never leave nor forsake them.

Turning away from God after having been enlightened by the Holy Ghost is an unpardonable sin. According to Hebrews 6 those who commit such a heinous sin can never be brought again to repentance and salvation. According to Hebrews 10 such a sin has no remedy because there is not another sacrifice for sins apart from the one the apostate rejected. According to Romans 1 those who have been enlightened and subsequently turned away from and rejected the light will be condemned to hell without excuse.

According to John 3:19 rejecting the light is the basis for condemning all lost sinners to hell.

Hello, your quote of scripture is clear and makes sense, but the last paragraph added with your narrative I don't see anywhere in scripture.

Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"
