Sorry, Ty; wrong "citation" , but thanks for replying. The "rest" of my response is sincere. Sorry if that's confusing.
  • Philip - In Reply - 3 years ago
Thank you, Ty. I've not read the book you cite; more familiar with Fox's Book Of Martyrs. Perhaps I'll look into that.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm just an "uneducated fisherman" as well. I am diligent to "be not deceived", so I question everything, particularly my own understanding.

Some of the other responders have given good insight also. At 73, I'm still a "student" of the Bible. Blessings, friend.

Wow Ken thats a good question...Even got me to thinking...But Jesus said if i be lifted up i will draw ALL men unto me...Thats everybody that ever lived...As the curse of Adam was applied to everyman that ever lived NO EXCEPTIONS...Thus there had to be a 2 nd ADAM Whose Blood wd be applied to every man NO EXCEPTIONS... 1 John 2 : 22 He was the propitiation for our sins and not just our sins but for the sins of the whole world...In Adam we all die but in Christ we will all live...Jesus told the Greeks unless a seed fall into the ground and die it abides alone but if it dies it will bring forth must fruit...impling there are gonna be many Christ that was the great Promise that Christ wd be multiplied as the stars of heaven...Thats y we must be bornagain of an incorruptible seed etc...The Greeks wanted to see him as we all want to see him...But we will not see him unless we birth him via the good seed the living word...the contents of that book that new covenant..That he wrote with his own blood.

..... Zech. 13 : 7 Smite the sheperd and the sheep will be scattered then i will turn my hand to the little ones...His offspring baby Christ the babes and sucklings...That can praise God perfectly...our New innerman, the H.G. The Children of PROMISE.

.....Jesus said truly i say unto you Unless ya receive the Kingdom of God as a lil Child you will in no wise enter there in...This is y he died that he might live again in humanity via a birth a heavenly Birth...When a seed dies it multiplies...That we might all get a good seed a measure of faith...Without faith is is impossible to plz God...When John said behold the lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world...Thats everybody that ever lived ...As God so loved the world that he gave us his only son etc.

Dear "Janet D", Body, soul and Spirit all belong to the Lord. Jesus came to earth for us in a carnal state. Compared to Him, we are sinners. He was/is not. But on the Cross God neeeded too leave Him, so Jesus could die. Jesus had to use his last strength in a few words. Mark 15:34

When we say we are not sinners it is because Jesus simply, the one / those who believe in Me will be saved. John 14:6. We are washed clean of what He bled on Calvary. John 13:10 What was before Christ was a lawful deed. Is now by His offer given us freedom from the law. Jesus fulfilled the whole law.

I can not give you any shortcuts. But for your own part, read the New Testament and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Also read the references to the old testament. Get the assurance of salvation dear.

The apostle Paul writes a lot about Sanctification, the body of sin and salvation in his letters, example Romans 8

Be and stay blessed in His Holy Name, love u in Christ.

Dear friend "Kenaket", Jesus died once for all. He died, went down to the realm of the dead and rose again after 3 days.

There is no one like Our God. He Is Unique!

There are no shortcuts i can point out for u. Hopefully you will come to the realization of truth as you read the Word of God. Becouse that Jesus Love u. God's Holy Scripture Is Jesus in the sense of the Word, and everything that is written in it, must be fulfilled.

Confess your sins and be baptized. The time is near for the Coming of our Lord Jesus.

Be blessed in His name Jesus, love u in Christ. 2 Corintihans 12

Best advice I can give you is to read your Bible , all of it , everyday for the rest of your life and pray to your God and find a Church . It's ok if you don't like the idea of Church straight away , once you have been reading a while , going to Church will probably be something that you naturally want to do .
  • Suze - In Reply - 3 years ago
Hi , I'm guessing that you haven't read the Old Testament . I know many don't feel it's necessary but I disagree . If you had read it , then it would help your understanding of the New enormously . There are lots of people on here who will be able to answer your questions with ease because they have read the entire Bible , more than once and they are still doing so every day . My advice to you is to read it for yourself from Genesis to Revelation , if you really want to get to know your God and your Saviour , that's the best way . May God open your eyes and ears and heart and mind to His Word .

    Hebrews 9:15

And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

While some commentators say the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament only applied to believers under the law that came to faith after Jesus died, many say this applied to all sins committed by God's elect in all ages who had the faith of Hebrews 11:6 that pleased God. I take the later view. Also Hebrews 11:40 and Hebrews 12:1 show that the people in Hebrews 11 ultimately had their faith made perfect when we entered into the New Covenant.

They also had the first messianic promise of the Seed of the woman in the curse God uttered against the serpent immediately after the fall before he curse woman and man ( Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.)

The old testament was a progressive revelation of the promise within the serpent's curse in numerous ways. It was always expanded by God making other promises, like the promised multiplying of the seed of Abraham like the stars in the heavens which Abraham believed and by that faith was counted righteous. The Messianic Psalms of David. The prophesied Servant of Isaiah. The prophesied New Covenant of Jeremiah. And those are just a small sample of these kinds of promises. We know 2 Corinthiand 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. I believe Jesus was always an inseparable part of every promise God ever made in the Old Testament from the moment He made them and that is what those old testament saints were believing in, even if only seen in shadow. Even we still only know in part and see through a glass darkly when we look at God's prophetic promises 1 Corinthians 13:9-12.

People before jesus birth death and resurrection had the promise of salvation there sin was rolled forward each year by believing in the blood of a lamb sacrifice all sin passed present and future was put on Jesus at the cross if you look at the progression of the Lamb in the Bible in Genesis it was a lamb bloods shed that God had made coats of skins 3.21 for Adam and Eve they were sentence to Die that day but the blood of a innocent lamb Die instead of Adam and Eve pic of Jesus A innocent lamb dies so the guilty sinner can be covered . IN GENESIS 22 Abraham offered up Isaac God said lay not thine hand upon the lad then gives him a Ram instead of his son 22.13 Then we go to Exodus 11 God tells Moses that all the firstborn will Die then in chapter 12 God gives them the ordinary of the Lamb take a lamb on the 10 day put it in the house tel the 14 day made sure it had no BLEMISH then in the evening take it out side of the city and kill it at put the blood over the door And when death comes for you He will see the blood of the Lamb and will Passover you the firstborn of all was sentenced to Die But a innocent lamb dies instead of the firstborn pic of Jesus our passover Lamb 1corithians 5.7 John 1. 29 John seeth Jesus and saith Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. God brings his lamb (Jesus) into his own house (Jerusalem) on the 10th day and they inspected him tell the 14th day and Pilate said i find no fault in him (God's Lamb) and they take him outside the city and kill God's lamb .I hope this will help you see the plans of God that was before the foundation of the world. 1 Peter 1.19-20 may God bless you always

It should have for believers, but with all things involving people change was difficult and many Jews had difficulty leaving it behind. Social pressures, rejection by families and being put out of the synagogues brought challenges and the temptation to go along to get along. That is why the book of Hebrews was written. The author was trying to prevent Jewish believers from turning back to the sacrificial system and showing them Jesus was superior in every way to that system.

Here is my attempt to summarize Hebrews:

Jesus superior to the prophets: Hebrews 1:1-3

Jesus superior to angels: Hebrews 1:4-14, Hebrews 2:1-8

Jesus able to represent humanity: Hebrews 2:9-18

Jesus superior to Moses: Hebrews 3:1-6

Warnings about hardening our hearts to God's calling: 3:7-19

Warnings about missing God's rest provided by faith in Jesus: 4:1-13

Jesus provides bold access as our high priest: 4:14-16, Jesus meets high priest requirements: Hebrews 5:1-10

Warning about being dull of hearing and unprepared for a deeper teaching: Hebrews 5:11-14, 6:1-8

Encouragement to believe that they are ready for deeper teaching: Hebrews 6:9-12

Teaching about the importance of God giving His oath to Christ He would be a priest forever: Hebrews 6:13-20

Teaching the superiority of the order of Melchisedek that Christ belongs to over the Levitical priesthood order: Hebrews 7:1-28

Christ's priesthood serves the heavenly reality that the law only was an earthly copy of: Hebrews 8:1-5

The superiority of the New Covenant over the Old: Hebrews 8:6-13,

The superiority of Christ's complete sevice over the incomplete Levitical service: Hebrews 9:1-28

The superiority of Christ's sacrifice: Hebrews 10:1-22

Warnings about drawing back: Hebrews 10:23-39

Importance of and examples of faith: Hebrews 11:1-40

Exhortation to submit to chastisement: Hebrews 12:1-29

Exhortation to practically live out their Christian faith and benediction: Hebrews 13:1-25

If you remember, jesus was born of the virgin mary. she did not conceive by mankinds way of coception. she was touched by the holy spirit of god and became pregnant. so, jesus knew no sin and was the only one on this earth that could pay the price for our sins. he paid that debt on the cross at calvary. your question of before jesus and what people did. in the old testament, the israelites had sacrafices of certain animals that were unblemished. these sacrafices did not forgive sin, but these sacrafices only put the sin kinda off to the side. were not forgiven but kinda put sin on hold. i think it's one of the peter books where it talks about jesus going into the heart of the earth and preached to those souls there. these were the people that had always heard how god would send a savior, but these people died before jesus came. these people carried out the blood sacrafices of certain animals when they were alive and held to the hope that one day jesus would come and free them from the power of sin and death. sorry i don't have the bible verses for you, but this is just a little breakdown.

    I like Luke 23:43

As an uneducated fisherman I lack the education and knowledge to join your arguments or to offer proper response.

What I know to be true is that the Holy Spirit provides gifts, wisdom, knowledge and discernment to each. Differently and accordingly. Keep the book open. Along with your hearts and minds as Christadelphian stated.

Belief, Faith and a life of Service are the Kool-Aid.

Hello everyone. I'm recently trying to find meaning, peace and get my Faith back. I'm wondering if you could give me some websites, books, youtube channels etc. that you know that you enjoy and that have helped you. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to understand what Jesus died for our sins really means. Jesus died on the cross for us so that we should not perish but have everlasting life, so How were people saved in the Old Testament if it was a time prior to Jesus death? how could they have eternal life? also if people could be saved prior to Jesus death then why did he have to die? I hope someone can help me understand, God bless you!

    Hi Alex.

    Thanks for your reply,

I'm familiar with your view from past and present discourse.

I see Abraham offering Issac performs the Gospel, particularly the resurrection as mentioned in the 11th Chapter of Hebrews. But again I don't follow your interpretation of scripture.

You speak of the union between the Holyspirit spirit and the believer as a future event.

But the way I see it is when the Holyspirit entered S Spencer he died and was given the earnest of the spirit so now I liveth, Hidden in Christ until the redemption of our bodies. I'm born again by the seed which is the word of God. I didn't give anything or anyone life, The Holyspirit gave me life!! and I have eternal life and I have it NOW.

I'm sure we are far off in this particular area of our beliefs. I pray you have sound soteriology " Doctrine of salvation " if so then that is wonderful!! but what you have gleaned from the word of God worries me. To receive virtue from the fat of the vine where there's wisdom and knowledge of the word of God as we grow in harmony seems lacking.

I will continue to pray for you and I hope others do so as well.

    God bless.

    Thanks Gigi.

You're a blessing to me and this site as well, and keep leading us in prayer for Ukraine and clarity to what this all means in regards to God's program.

Inerrancy in the gospel is much needed, especially in these evil days.

Sometimes I grow weary in debates that has nothing to do with salvation. This is the time to preach the message that regenerates.

    Thank you and God bless.

This forum doesn't allow websites to be posted, however, if you go to you tube and search "Getting the Pigs Off the Altar' - Jed Baptist, look for Part 3, on Christmas. It is the best documentary I've ever seen on Christmas. I've studied that topic quite a bit for a good number of years. The pastor does a tremendous job with facts, photos and other visual aids not only in this, but the whole series.

Hi Phillip. When I read your question, these verses came to me from John 14. It is very clear that where Jesus WENT, He will bring us there as well! Be comforted by this simple truth!

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

I also thought of John 17, which is a beautiful prayer of Jesus. Look at what Jesus prayed in verse 24:

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Jesus specifically TOLD us, then, that He WILL take us to heaven, AND it is His WILL to do so!

May the Lord grace you mightily as you search the Scriptures! Amen!

Reading the people Bible commentary for Heb 12:14, it says: pure and sinless lives, without a holy life no one shall be in fellowship with God. No man shall see the Lord.

Can someone please comment on this,

As long as we live in our earthly bodies we (our flesh nature) will not be 'sinless',

    Thank you.

There were or are 2 creation events. God created all the races first 1st in Gen.1.26-28, then after God rested from his work. He created Adam and Eve whom Eve would be called the mother of all living, meaning that Christ would come through their seed, and If you are not living in Christ you are not considered living. All the races were in the world when Cain spoke of someone killing him in Gen. 4.13-14, proving that there were other people besides Adam and Eves family.

I believe it is James that states that we shouldn't plan what we are doing in the future as life is a vapor; therefore we are to phrase "if it is the Lord's will" when we pray. The same book insists that a unstable man shouldn't expect anything from God; nor someone who is heaping things upon their own lusts in their requests. It is not a mutually exclusive point as to people dying from a lack of knowledge as you brought out. Prayer ideally should reflect the Holy Ghost and should be in line with God's will in our lives to the best of our knowledge. The most effective prayer; honestly is asking God to chastise us; as "He rebukes all those He loves." Admittedly; I am hesitant asking that of the Lord.

It should be understood also that sometimes not seeing the whole picture; and the process involved to recieve an answer makes our prayers only partially effective. The chastising method; as mentioned above can be accomplished through tests; illnesses; and other problems in our lives. The blessings we ask for often are concealed in what seems to be endless troubles. The concept of patience is also exemplified in James; hence we are not to be expecting instant answers; but not on the other hand totally without faith that He can answer that way when He chooses to. Oftentimes; we may pray for things that on the surface seem fine but it is based on our best understanding of a situation. Sometimes our actions work with answered prayers of others. James also makes that clear that we need to take action to feed and clothe our brother not just lip service. There are; of course other times when we are simply unable to do anything. One thing that we must do; however is ensure that there is no unforgiveness putting up a wall (as a verse in Proverbs states) with our brother; an in fact between us and God. Christ said to do this before offering sacrifice and the same principle applies for communion for instance. We always want to be part of God's plan.

    Ronnette,

The author of Hebrews is unknown. We do know from Hebrews 13:23 that whoever wrote the letter knew Timothy. Some believe that Paul wrote Hebrews, but in all of Paul's other epistles, he begins by introducing himself as the author. One of the problems I have in believing Paul wrote it is because of what it says in Hebrews 2:3 which says "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by (them) that heard Him."

This tells me that whoever wrote Hebrews was a second generation Christian. So whoever wrote Hebrews did not hear the Lord directly (As Paul did), nor did he receive from the Lord directly, but received and was confirmed and established for us, he being one of them, by those that heard Him.

One of the other theories was that it was Barnabas, because the letter appears to have been written by a Levite from the tribe of Levi. They were those who worked the temple. They were the priests, and they are the ones who took care of the temple.

The letter appears to have been written by a Levite because of the familiarity with the temple functions and rituals. According to Acts 4:36, Barnabas was a Levite. So some people theorize that Barnabas wrote it.

Barnabas means "Son of Encouragement." That's what his name means. And in Hebrews, the writer states in Hebrews 13:22 that he encourages them to endure the word of encouragement.

I have also heard Luke and Apollos being mentioned as possible writer. But the bottom line is we do not know who wrote Hebrews.

As for Hebrews 8:11 applying to Gentiles, here is my understanding of that verse. When Christ comes and sets up His kingdom, and brings the fulfillment of the last parts of the New Covenant, everybody will know the Lord.

We won't have a need for pastors. There won't be a need to teach others about the Lord. Everybody's going to know, when He comes and sets up His kingdom!
