Noah is not an allegory. He is an actual person. Noah is not Jesus and Jesus is not Noah. However, Noah is given in scripture to us with a message for our time. His age was wicked and our age is wicked. God destroyed the cosmos (the world system of the wicked) of Noah's day with a flood, yet God chose to show his grace to save mankind through one man Noah. God has said he will destroy the cosmos of our day with fire. Has God in His grace chosen one man to save mankind from that destruction? Yes, Jesus Christ. I just listened to two sermons by Billy Graham on Noah, and when you boil it all down that was Billy Graham's message. That is mine. It takes no more mental gymnastics than that to say Noah is a type, and Christ is his antitype for us.

Ezekiel 38:9 and Ezekiel 38:16 showcases God's attack Israel (in the latter years).

The prophet states that 2 lands (house of Israel, and house of Judah) are covered like a cloud, coming from 1 land (Russia)

Ezekiel 21:18-20 talks about the exact same thing: Judah and Ammonites are attacked and taken from 1 land, Babylon.

I deduct that America and Israel will be attacked and taken by Russia, at the day of the Lord.

Russia is making it's move. We will be at continual war until the falling away ( 2 Thessalonians 2:3).

This passage shows the last great speech of Moses; before he went to his death as stated in verse 21 and 22. Even he was unable; because of one time of anger striking the rock for water an extra time (symbolic in some ways of Christ) that he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land but saw it from afar.

Once again; they are reminded not to worship idols. The past manifestations of God on the mountain with fire was reiterated; and warnings as to future sin and being dispersed among the nations in exile after many died in the land would certainly come to pass. There is even a prophetic statement about the last days and tribulation (v. 30) where God still promised some mercy for repentance. This demonstrates the sad reality that Moses knew as God Himself that there would be rebellion as long as man remained in his sinful state until Christ returns. Nonetheless; God's covenant would remain (verse 31).

The blindness among the nation of Israel will finally be removed right before the return of Christ according to Zechariah. Romans states this as continuing until the "time of the Gentiles be complete ( Romans 11:25; see also Luke 21:24). Truly, there has been a time in the wilderness for the Jews up until today; as they have been unable to assess the suffering servant in Isaiah 53 as being Christ. Sadly; many will fall for Antichrist when "another comes in his own name" ( John 5:43). The lesson of going after enemies without God's blessing due to sin in the camp was something prevalent at that time. It was sin which caused such an extensive delay to get out of the desert; and would continually cause the nation to fall short of the promises in God's covenant for the Promised Land. Nonetheless; mercy stands as we have a God much more patient than you or I. Time and time again He forgives despite the heart of man which is desperately wicked ( Jeremiah 17:9).

Revelation 1:15 {1+1+5=7} reminds us that God can speak through weather ( hurricanes, floods, tidal waves, tsunamis, rain, etc ) "and his voice as the sound of many waters" Psalms 93, 95,96, 98 also reveal this. ( going off memory ) ( Read Psalm 90-99 ) Page 777 in the Hendrixson published version of the KJV Bible on the top right also has a bit about Gods being in charge of the weather.

I know the gospel. I know the salvation in christ. In the last times they will not endure sound doctrine giving heed to fables. Finding my ministry going arigh at times without the holy spirit, I wish only to describe the relationship that would make more sense to those who are young in the faith

This is the liberty we have speaking these truths that have been given unto us. That we proclaim as you say the salvation through the blood of Christ! You have given a most magnificent point in this liberty that we have shared !

The glorious liberty found in him!

I think in fairness I should at least discuss the other two interpretations that say the preaching did not take place during the time between Christ's death on the cross and the Resurrection.

They are the generally called the preincarate theory and the post-ascension theory.

I will deal with the post-ascension theory first, since it is similar to the theories I have presented in that it still takes place in the spiritual realm. Primarily it differs by denying Jesus ever descended into hell and that prior to his resurrection He placed His Spirit in His Father's hand and was with the thief in paradise. Then they take 1 Peter 3:18 where Christ is described as "being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" as being the resurrection itself. Then I believe they see the "angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him." in 1 Peter 3:22 that followed Christ's ascension into heaven as describing the same event as 1 Peter 3:19.

I believe Peter is using a chiastic (inverse parallel) structure between a type in 1 Peter 3:19-20 and an antitype in 1 Peter 3:21-22. Having examined this structure in my own separate post, the post-ascension theory has gained substantially more merit in my view and I am giving it more consideration myself.

The preincarate theory also denies that Christ was ever in hell and proposes that the preaching Christ did in the Spirit actually took place during the time Noah was building the Arc and was definitely to human beings, not angels or fallen angels. They normally view Noah's preaching as being done by the Spirit of Christ rather than appealing to a preincarnate appearance of Christ.

This theory goes to great lengths to make the language in 1 Peter 3:19 have the "unto the spirit in prison" there only because that is their current condition, but that he really means to say "By which He went and preached to" men "which sometime were disobedient". It sounds very strained to me and has no clear parallel in the antitype.

This verse describes through symbolism God's goodness to David, and by extension all believers. The Lord blesses His people (preparest a table - lays out a banquet) in a public way that proves God's favour in front of their enemies. Olive oil in Biblical Israel was used to anoint kings ( 1 Samuel 10:1) and induct priests into office, it was performed physically by pouring the oil over the person's head. To be anointed is to receive honour, which is what David enjoys from the Lord. And the last part about the overflowing cup is a picture of the abundance of blessings God pours out on His people (good things in excess of what they need).

Wow , thank you Alex . Awesome post . God will be all in all . It really feels to me that we are in the very end times now , I'm both excited and slightly scared . I think we are going to see some awful sights to come but we mustn't let our fear get the better of us , Christ is with us and he won't leave us . None of the plagues in Egypt touched the Israelites and we are of Israel if we are of Christ . Be not soon shaken .

Jesus Likely Had Black Hair and a Beard.

Jesus told his followers, "And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black" ( Matthew 5:36).

Jesus probably had a beard and short curly hair with long sideburns or "payot." Jesus followed the law in Leviticus 19:27 which said, "You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard." Even today, Orthodox Jewish men grow long hair on the sides of their heads.

Shorter hair was considered the norm for Jewish men and for Romans. Paul explains to early Christians in Corinth, "Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 1 Corinthians 11:14-15; Numbers 6:1-8

For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed." ( Isaiah 53: 2-3, 5)

Jesus tells us to carry His lambs. In our arms, in prayer. We'll get in trouble if we beat the sheep. I'm a sheep. I know it hurts to make a mistake, but that is how we LEARN. The Holy Spirit is always near, when we need Him. If you ask Him to be your Teacher, he will show you Truth.

Read scripture and make use of commentaries by Christian teachers and scholars from the past.

[Google. 1 John 1:9, commentary or meaning or teaching]

You will then understand the scripture.

I get "pulled over to the curb" often. Don't take it personally. See what you can learn and then ask the Holy Spirit to make it plain and clear. He is #one Teacher.

Some folks have favorite passages to expound on. I kind of like to pick up fresh MANNA off the ground every day. Not to complain if it's not baby back ribs.

When you sit at Jesus's Table, he is not going to tell you, you can't eat meat yet. Babies drink milk, but they grab everything as a rule. This is normal. Be sensitive to The Holy Spirits leading. Talk to Him. No one's walk with the Lord is the same. He is yours, and you are his child. Let the relationship bloom without fear. If you need a hug or forgiveness for something__reach out for it. Take it.

If I do something out of line, I'm telling you, I get pulled back by the neck of my tshirt and told to repent and put things right.

I'm not like Peter or Paul. I'm more like John. I like caves because I sing like a frog. It's just me. Solitary. I love Jesus more than my own life.

Take time outs to go to the cave, the mountaintop, or sit under a bush and be fed by the ravens. You don't have to please anyone except Jesus. What you learn, shout from the rooftops.

God inhabits the praise and worship of those who love Him, and His Word. Enter in. You were chosen.

Now that I have written out the structure and had time to think about it more fully, I think I should eliminate the santification parallel. The portion in parenthesis in that step for the case of believers today is explanatory for what the Apostle means by baptism saving us and does calirfy that it isn't the normal outward effects of water upon our bodies that saves, but an inward spiritual cleansing of the conscience by the imputed righteousness of Christ. While that leads to santification, it doesn't seem like he has that in view here, and my division was incorrect.

Rather than throwing out everything, because I have admitted my own fallability, I want to lay it out as three parallels.

    The like figure whereunto

(Salvation of a chosen few from a wicked generation by water)

wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,)

(God's patience during preparations made by a chosen one)

when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing,

    by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God;

    (Vindication)

By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient,

angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Additionally, Peter is using a figure and all figures (or types and antitypes) are limited. So I believe he is intentionally limiting himself to parallels he sees between the type and the antitype, rather than expounding his full views on all that Christ has done for us. Turning this passage into the one and only proof text for any theory of baptism or salvation that is not supported elsewhere in the New Testament or that nullifies other passages that clearly were written to deal with these topics more fully should not be taken as his intention. That goes for all typology.

    Hey Jamie,

My understanding is, this is the deception of deceptions and will cause the great falling away, 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Part of this deception is that the great tribulation and the wrath of God are taught as being the same thing. We must understand the wrath of God comes after the second coming of Jesus not before. Matthew 24:29-31 Mark 13:24-27.

It developed in the 17th Century, and it quickly led to an understanding that the rapture of the church would be an event separate from and before the second coming of Christ. It was made popular by John Darby, and he is thought by many to be the originator but not. C.I. Scofield, with the study bible with footnotes, helped promote this doctrine of man. It started as pre-tribulation and still mostly believed in.

We as humans sometimes look for the easy way out, and many preachers oblige to fill the money plate that makes merchandise of people, 2 Peter 2:3. Scripture does not say we will be spared tribulation it says the opposite, Acts 14:22 John 16:33. It is debated that although all Christians go through some tribulation, there is yet a great tribulation to come those true believers will not have to undergo. So, who are these, Revelation 7:13-14 Revelation 20:4

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

The mark and saving our physical life is the temptation, that so many don't believe they will be here to face, that is the great deception. Keep from does not mean we will be spared from being killed it means to spiritually guard (watch), keep intact, Hebrews 3:6. The believers in Jesus in the past were not spared being beheaded, burnt on a stake, fed to the lions, why should we.

    God bless,

    RLW

The diverse temptation is to be "drawn away", or to let what you have been taught to "slip away". "Agree quickly with thine adversary while thou are in the way"!

These words are quick and powerful, giving us a clear view of what will proceed those who are living (in or for the moment), out of the word!

I asked one which bible He used ,and He said none. What church do you belong to, His reply, Catholic!

So I ask myself why, as I said good day to Him, as I began to contemplate why the Catholic church may request such a thing as this? ( the days of bibles even in the protestant church are gone).

While thinking on these things I see the apostles as they struggle teaching and preaching the word. Even though they have received it directly from Christ, there is division and misunderstanding between one another, while we know Jesus taught us to love one another, yet there is division among us.

Education, ability to listen, learning can definitely be a road block, and yet I am reminded of those who were blind, mute, unable to walk too the synagogue , who called out His name, and Christ healed them!

He gave them the sight they needed to see Him. He gave them the hearing thy needed to hear Him! How wonderful are His ways toward all who call on Him!

The authority given to the church are the keys given by God. The church has the Devine authority to use the keys according the Holy Spirit directed by God Himself.

In the ever changing world, even with the learned history, never before could we learn from It more, this the Bride of Christ "the church".

With the knowledge of His will, He has given each one of us liberty and responsibility to rightly divide His words, we all have a place who believe the gospel. I have sinned, I have said wrong words out of haste, not teaching as I should! But this I know, I have been forgiven for Christs sake!

The church is susceptible, It too can fall into sin! It is not infallible. This is why we need to read the word!
