Lorraine Whats interesting about Balaam was what it took to stop Him and get His attention,in verse 22 he

is cruising along one an ass with two servants and doesn't see the angel but the ass turned aside! Then he's

headed down a narrow pathway the ass slamming balaam against the wall and balaam beating the ass but the

ass saw the angel dropped down and the prophet didn't get the hint until the the Lord talks to balaam through

the ass's mouth verses 28-30. Wouldn't that be enough to get your attention but God still had to reveal the

angel to balaam to get the hint and he stopped. Eventually he got with balak but didn't tell balak what he wanted

to hear, actually the exact opposite Chapter 23: 19 balaam saying to balak God is not a man that he should lie

neither the son of man that he should repent hath he said and shall he not do it or hath he not spoken and shall

he not make it good. Its funny sometimes in our lives we need nudging like balaam only perhaps for a different

    simpler reason.

Thanks Jim for that reference in Luke. It's just that I don't understand "the shape of a dove" to be an exact look-a-like of the bird, but taking on the general form of it & more specifically its manner of descent upon Jesus. In other words, John should NOT have been in a position to observe & exclaim, "Hey lookie there, I see the Holy Spirit coming, taking on the form of a dove - that must make that dove a very special bird created by God". And of course, as I wrote earlier, if the appearance of the 'dove' was perceived to be an animal by anyone, then we would have to ask how does that fit into the other Scriptures that warn us (e.g. Deuteronomy 4:14-19)?

Then of course, we have Acts 2:2,3, with the "cloven tongues as of fire". The similarity is striking to the previous one; again, the understanding of many is that it was actual fire that came upon the apostles who were gathered there, whereas what appeared was the general appearance of fire, maybe even flickering, yet would not cause harm as a fire would. Anyway, I guess we can each have our own perceptions of these, & from so many other biblical accounts, which sometimes adds that extra dimension to our Bible reading & understanding. Thanks again for your thoughts on this.

Carolyn Smith This is when I say let the Word of God do the Work, the witness is in our walk and talk

or lifestyle. Example years ago at an outing at my in laws place one of the children cut his arm near the pool

my brother in law who is an emt rushed over to put a bandage on it, my son went over and had it prayed for

by my wife the bleeding stopped and he jumped back into the pool. My brother in law ask what happened we told him

he was healed he said whatever and nothing was ever mentioned again. So that was a witness, like I said

people will notice a change and if not make a friend just love people where they are at and bring them up

to the Words level or Lead in love, sometimes that takes times. Above all ask God He's the ultimate guide

especially when holding forth His Word. P.S. No Fear walk in Gods Love because 1 John 4:17+18 we are fearless

    spiritually in Christ! God Bless

    Thanks

    Bro Dan

Likewise, I appreciate everyone's contribution here.

For me, I am always concerned about posting something that speaks untruth about our Lord, His work, or about our Christoan walk and thus lead someone in a wrong way. So, I am prayerful, and seek the Spirit's guidance because I know that on my own I would surely mess up!

I pray for those on this forum everyday.

Just think, a few months ago I did not know this forum existed! God is at work in each of us as we grow up in Christ.

Jesse I bought a used book months ago in a book store for cheap, the origins of hymns of Faith. Its

gives the background story behind the hymns. Its been an I opener to see the pressure the believers were under and what they were inspired to write under incredible pressure. Another interesting piece of history, Abraham lincoln heading to gettysburg to address the troops he had a migraine headache so bad they had his head in ice packs for two hours and during that time he wrote the Gettysburg Address. This stuff is inspiring to me but not nearly as much as studying Gods Word. Touching bases later!

    Hi Free

I was not saying that I belong to the Orthodox denomination.

I was talking about beliefs and doctrine that he church has seemed "orthodox" or correct over the centuries.

I understand that not everyone sees value in that, but I have been part of congregations that are traditional and some that have been charismatic or "Pentecostal".

So, I am not as "narrow" as most people on here may think.

I have studied the tenets of a broad range of denominations

And my lead from the Spirit is to remain within "orthodox" teaching (as I have defined it) and listen to those who may speak things that differ from these teachings. I take everything to the Word and pray for guidance. I realize that on this particular forum I am somewhat of an anomaly in this way. But I do think that m voice here is helpful in that I may say things people have never heard before or say things that make people think and search to test what is said.

Thanks for your response to me. I appreciate the input.

Numbers 22:20,22 please note: Numbers 22:21,

GOD had said "If the men come to call the" the previous verse Numbers 22:19, he had told them to "tarry ye here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more" Those guys were already there, Balaam didn't wait. GOD has specific instructions at times especially for HIS prophets. Note: Numbers 20:7-12,

Numbers 22:32-34, Numbers 22:35 given the o.k. to go

    Hopefully this is helpful.

Jim The analogy in Ephesians is in regard to the way Roman armour covered a soldiers body, whole armour

of God. Stand with shield Gods Word which belief system in Gods word utilized. Also breastplate of righteousness

which is of God in Christ, loins seat of physical prowess girt with truth, feet shod sure footed with gospel good

news Gods peace, then the shield of faith THE FAITH of Jesus Christ by the spirit to quench drown or put out

all the fiery darts lies of the prince of the power of the air, then helmet of salvation soundness of mind with the

sword two edge which is Gods Word. Also jim the term kill in old testament meant murder to take innocent

life, it is not evil to kill in self defense. Many times David gave the order to kill unbelievers because God knew

they would never believe like philistines and other tribes that worshipped other gods.

    Hi again, Jesse

I have been reading up on Mitvah and tevilah and teshuvah.

Thanks for bringing these terms up.

I will continue reading as my computer allies me to do. It is having issues and it goes out of use in the middle of things and sometimes I cannot get back on it for several

    Hours.

Probably will have to get it repaired. So then I'll be out of its use,

I can use my phone but the screen is small and it is hard for me to read.

To refer back to your last post to me, we all have our strengths to bring to this site, and we all have our weaknesses. So we all have good things to contribute and we all are in a place for instruction to take place.

You have helped me today with something new to read about and consider. I am thankful for that today.

    Rick,

I do know the song "Love lifted me." It is a good one. There are a lot of hymns I like. I am a big fan of bluegrass gospel music. I actually play five different instruments and my favorite music to play is bluegrass gospel. A few of my favorites are Sweet Beulah Land, Wayfaring Stranger, and I Know Who Holds Tomorrow.

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow sung by Alison Krauss and the Cox Family is probably my most favorite!

    Hi Chris

You said that it wasn't even in the shape of a dove but Luke 3:22 says that it was in the shape of a dove. Like I said before it was done that way to indicate the type of ministry Jesus Christ would have.

    Hi Jesse

Thank you for the helpful information

Perhaps this incident was during the time of Teshuva.

I wish it would have said so. Then we would have a clearer idea.

And I do not know Hebrew nor Greek. And if I did I would never consider myself to have superior knowledge over another believer, as it is the Spirit who brings us true knowledge of Truth.

I appreciate those who do have some study of Hebrew and Greek. I find this input helpful. Do thanks!

Same word here as in verse 22, "fill the waters and the seas". I think here also; "fill the earth".

Prior to this the "earth" is described as "without form and void", (tohu va bohu), a shapeless mass of confusion and emptiness. Then came the "word of God" who spoke "light". The entrance of Your words gives light ... ( Psalm 119:130)

  • Richard H Priday on Psalms 90 - 4 years ago
Verse 10 of this Psalm certainly gives us pause to think of an average lifespan; as the last years are indeed a struggle. If this refers to the last generation; we need to consider that 1948 may not have been the correct beginning for that day.

We notice where Christ says"..behold the fig trees and ALL the trees.." ( Luke 21:29) This would perhaps indicate economic prosperity for the surrounding nations which the Gulf states are already seeing ahead of them with agreements with Israel. It would seem for Israel to be attacked when they live securely and with unwalled villages in the Ezekiel 38 war; first the events of Psalm 83 would expand Israel's borders and eliminate the constant conflicts with the Palestinians and other nearby surrounding countries. Then; it would be likely the Daniel 27 covenant would have a league with countries such as Iran; Turkey; Syria and perhaps others in N. Africa and make it seem that Israel's issues are over. Just another perspective here. In any event; this psalm tells us that we are to "number our days." (v.12). Life is as a fleeting shadow; there is truly little time before night comes; and no man can work ( John 9:4). The millennium seems a clear concept as well here from v. 4; with the last day of rest for the whole world bringing the world in a way back to the way it was on the last day of the Creation; a sort of rest for the whole creation that has been travailing to this point.( Romans 8:22 etal).

if I understand correctly, Moses alone was permitted to approach God. This is about the great Majesty and holiness of God, how we, before Christ, stand naked before a holy righteous judge. Now under the gospel what a privilege we enjoy to have "boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus". Hallelujah!
  • Jesse - In Reply - 4 years ago
    Gigi,

I figured that one out when I first read it. It seems to me that it's your computer that's being the dork! I mentioned a couple of Hebrew terms, Teshuva, and Mikveh. From what I've read and learned, and please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm sure you are far more superior in your understanding of the Hebrew than myself. I know some Hebrew but not much.

My understanding of Teshuva is that it's the English transliteration of the word for repentance in Hebrew. Every year, even to this day, the Jews celebrate repentance, called Teshuva. They go down to the Sea of Galilee and get baptized showing the repentance of their sins.

It's a ritual that they do every single year. It begins with the baptism. They go 40 days of repentance, and on the 40th day, that day is a day of fasting. And then Teshuva is over.

Mikveh, is the Hebrew word for baptism. If I am speaking to a Jew about baptism, I don't use the word baptism, I would use the word Mikveh. John went down and he was holding a Mikveh during Teshuva.

So, if I follow this through, I come to understand that Matthew Chapter 3 and 4 is all about this time frame because at that time John is baptizing, and all of Israel has come out. And there are different people who are baptizing at different places at the Sea of Galilee. And they heard about John, and they are all now flocking around John's baptism because this is a "very strange guy!"

Here is John talking about the Kingdom of heaven having arrived and he is baptizing the Jews in preparation for the coming of Messiah. And who comes on the scene but Yeshua Himself, and John baptizes Him.

So, there's a very special meaning to John's baptism. When I get to Chapter 4, when Jesus is out in the wilderness for 40 days, this was during Teshuva. And immediately after He was baptized, He goes out into the wilderness for 40 days. He has been fasting for 40 days, but on the 40th day is the day of fasting. But this entire time period is the Teshuva and the Mikveh.

    Psalm 89

This psalm is multifaceted. There are many parallel references to David and Christ ruling in the future Millennium period (v.22-23); with a covenant promising these things as well as the eternal aspects of these promises. There is also the apparent violation of God of a covenant to Ethan the Ezrahite in v. 38-51. This; of course can't be true; but it is clear from the earlier verses that chastisement can occur but God never ultimately forsakes His eternal covenants; as long as the moon and sun remain. There is a description of the heavens and the earth (v.11) which reminds us of the evidences of God to the world in Romans 1 and Psalm 19. There is the fear and reverence of God shown from the saints in the assembly which could symbolize souls of the righteous and/or the future Resurrected and raptured saint of God.

Hi dear friend in Jesus. Ty for ur post. So wonderfull it is with faith. Then also how different we are. I have for some time ago fond good memories from ppl who is from Orthodox church. I still have.

So when we search for faith and proff, we find blessed Paul who taught the ppl about Jesus. All the way too Rome in Italy. :) and blessed Paul.

For me it is not a different dear Gigi. You belive that Jesus is God Son, me too. Differences come with cultures and different ppl. Human fear and abuse of power unfortunately. Power hungry ppl and delusions.

We belive that Jesus is God Son.

For it has always been so. The church has had great power always right?

I think is right to stay there we are 'born'. Its there we can work with dayly task, like pray, love each other. give suport and mm.

Please understand me right. I'm not saying now that more charismatic church is preferable. In front of another. Becouse we are all humans.

I try too say that all of us need only One. That's Jesus Christ. He shall have all honor and all praise. And the church will demand for it self.

Then we have all the diffrences again.

I think you're a strong person Who has started too understand orthodoxy. I also want to learn more. But I have to say, they're Christians With something extra. I hope non take this Personal. I take comfort in the watering down the ranks of Christians. From Israel too all over the world! Thats a bitt.

But the Spirit is the same. There's no changing shadow in Him.

God bless u and Go ahead and read in the name of Jesus he finishes what He has begun. One way or the other. Please take care in the word. So u dont get confused. Love u all in Christ.

All who belivs in Jesus Christ!

Gigi Breath life equals= soul life which when a person takes their first breath that's the start of soul life which

biblically has an end when man takes his last breath but spirit life is eternal. The word breath there is nishma[for

breathing but in other places the word for breath[is ruach which can mean breath air wind or spirit] depending

on context. So all this depends on the context of usage of words, not making this up just being honest and not

at all argumentative just part of research.
