specifically who God is speaking to. All Scripture was preserved for us, but not all verses are written to us. The promise, "no weapon formed against thee shall prosper......" was a promise of God specific to Israel the nation and people. The "weapons" being spoken of are literal, physical weapons of war. Notice the references to "blowing the coals in the fire......
bringing forth an instrument of his work.... and the word "smith" as in metal or blacksmith.(these are implements of war).
If this is a promise to all believers and applies some spiritual meaning to be a protection from harm from weapons or attacks as a believers claim to it, thru the finished work of Salvation, then where is the application to those who were/are beheaded for their faith and refusal to convert to Islam?!!!! Why are we then exhorted as Christians to, "put on the whole armor of God"( Eph. 6:11-18)? Because the weapons here in Ephesians are our weapons for battle, rather than some twist of a promise of God to Israel mis-applied to us(the Church).
I agree. When dealing with Scripture, I look. To the plain meaning of the text first, as like you, I feel that the Lord God intended His words tone plainly understood without needed to look for obscure underlying interpretations or hidden meaning.
He is not a "trickster" like the devil. He said that His word is Truth. So we can believe it and trust it. We also trust the Holy Spirit to teach us all that is necessary for life and godliness, as He sanctified us through His word.
I do think is is good and appropriate to have deep thoughts on Scrpture. It is often in those times that the Spirit illuminates a Scripture for an individual to apply to their life.
But, that said, I think it wise for one to read the whole of Scripture often, to hide it in one's heart, rather than just focusing on a select few Scripture verses and viewpoints that one uses as the lens for all interpretation. There is folly in doing so. That is why I am thankful that the Lord called me to read the Bible from the age of 9. I have 50+ years of intaking of the Word and I have been richly blessed by doing so.
Thanks for the post. We all should approach the Word with a humble heart. We all should speak the word with humility , knowing we are frail humans. And we should all present our viewpoints with humility, being willing to change it if one finds a convincing argument that reveals error in one's thinking.
But at the same time we are to
Hold fast to the faith that was once and for all handed down to the church. So, for me, it is important to study and know what this faith (body of doctrines) is. That is why I study orthodox beliefs and then study what has been considered error and heresy. That way
I become wise to the deception of the enemy as I hold every teaching up to the Word of God.
I was referring to Genesis 2:7 and the Lord God formed man if the dust of the ground , and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
I did not post that God breathed the Spirit into man.
I was referring to the action of God breathing something into man, the breath of life in Genesis, and the Spirit of Life into the apostles in John. God's actions and words are powerful and effective and accomplish His purpose every time
Meant to say "Spirt's work" not dork. I hate using the small letters on my phone, but my computer is acting up and sometimes I can't use it for a few hours, Grrrr
I was just commented about your reference to MIKVAH
As it seemed to
Me that perhaps you thought that that was what Jesus was doing for His baptism.
That's all.
As to the conversation that continues to come up about baptism, it is obvious that some of us have a firm stance on this topic and present that view unequivocally . That is not ugly to do so, but some may be uncomfortable with people being in disagreement with one another. I get that.
But, that being said, Jesse, I always am glad to read your contribution. Like you, I have been water and Spirit "baptized." But for those who have been water baptized and not had the Spirit come upon them in power, they can be assured that they still are indwelt with the Holy Spirit as He is the One who regenerates us , gives us faith to believe, and comes to live within every new believer. One cannot be a believer without the grace of the Holy Spurit's dork and presence. As people live their life with the Spirit within, they will grow up n Christ and be equipped for every good work whether they have a "Pentecost" type of experience or not. The same Spirit works in each of us according to His will, not ours. God is the authority and power in every believer. I say this to
Encourage everyone to realize God is the author and finisher of our faith.
From what I know of classic orthodox teaching
Jesus did not become the Son of God at Jis conception.
He always as the son of God from all eternity. He existed with the Father and the Holy Spirit from all eternity without ever having a beginning .
When the Son of God incarnated in Mary he also began as the Son of Man, human with a conveption, a beginning. From conception on This Jesus was both Son of God and Son of Man for eternity, never shedding His Godhood nor humanity, being both God and man in one person.
I just wanted to clarify that for those who wish to know the constant teaching of the church fro it's beginning through the centuries.
The view that Jesus became God's Son at conception has been considered heresy
Throughout the centuries.
This view is held by some today and, because the church is now so tolerant of aberrant views, it continues to spread unchallenged in many sects.
For me, I believe and will uphold what I know to be standar orthodox teaching.
Others may disagree with me and I respect their right to say so as I would ask that I be given the same respect.
Have a good day.
I hope this wasn't directed toward me because you feel as though I have a wrong or negative opinion about water baptism? I think I have a fairly decent grasp on what the scripture teaches on water baptism, and I can tell you that I've been both Spirit baptized (Born of God's Spirit), and water baptized. I was following along with the thread a couple days ago about water baptism, but I chose to stay out of that one because, although respectful, it seemed to get a little ugly.
It's sort of sad that that happens where someone asks a question about water baptism, or any other of the controversial topics, and right away you can predict what's getting ready to happen.
But anyway, I will take some time today to study a few things out to see where I might have been in error in what I sent to Alex because I am not completely sure what I said that you feel is in error. I do know that Jesus was not a Levite, but John the baptizer was.
As for your last statement, "Let's just believe that Jesus was water baptized and the whole Godhead was present for it, just as when we are water baptized in the name of the Father, and if the Son, and if the Holy Spirit,"
To that I'll just say, "Yes Ma'am, that's what I believe!"
God bless,
RLW
God's sign of authority is on the ten commandements precisely on the sabath of the 4th. commandement. The power who changed God's eternal Law, replacing god's adorention on sabath by someone else on sunday is the same powerwho persecuted those who died as martirs on Rome colliseum, and received his power from Csar. Let's Keep sabath Holy and give to csar just what belongs him, which is civil authority only.

Jonhn 3:16 and 19 and 4: 24 and 26.God took upon Himself our sin and guilt, and as a man of sorrows, went till the end and gave all his love and Mercy to whosoever accepts Jesus as a personal Savior and Lord.
God's Justice was acomplished in Christ, as God's Lamb Who was slained since before the creaton of the Universe, before space and time. God is God, let's give Him what belongs Him and be humble before God, and practice justice towerds our neighbor, as Jesus did keeping all the ten commandements as He resumed to the rich young man.
To chose God we need to know Jesus and follow Him with all our will of power and unfailling Fait as He Had, on All Father's Word, and giving to Csar which belongs to Csar, being respectfull towerds authority, and honoring the governor or King., and forgiving all men as jesus forgave those who insulted and killed Him. men!
Jeremiah 2: 11-13 states the actual one and only problem when a nation or people serve or bow down to
other gods, and that is because they have chosen to do so. Therefore they leave themselves open to the
