Hi Dianne , I'm sure you already know that Christ is the promised : seed of the woman , from Genesis and that a person was and still is Jewish if they are born of a Jewish mother .

Where can you find definitions of words found in the bible?
  • Earl Bowman - In Reply - 4 years ago
Brother Jesse, I would ask a favor, I would like to know the word torment in the parable of Larazus and the rich man. The Greek word translated torment. How was it use in other verses. Is it mental angush, seeing the glory the Son of God received, or physical torment.

    lolo,

perhaps you might be thinking about Psalms 91

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

    5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

how we are protected is not said but if he gives us a vaccine to help us its not a lack of faith to get it...

remember the story bout the guy who died and went to heaven and asked "lord why didn't you save me?" Jesus answered him "not save you? I sent 2 boats and a helicopter before you died"

    remember we walk by faith

Dianne: Thank you for your response. Much appreciated. I know that I can not challenge your faith. The reason I wrote what I did is to assure you and others that I have no hidden agenda. I think it is natural for people to wonder why I place comments here. As I read Matthew, I have questions--not doubt. And I want to know what people think. And you have done that. I am not here to argue or be contentious. And writing that, I don't mean to suggest that you are being argumentative or contentious. You are not.

Verse 1-Faith makes future things promised by God as real as if we already have them now.
  • Wkirk - In Reply - 4 years ago
    have you not read?

    Isaiah 45:23

I have sworn by myself[god], the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

    Romans 14:11

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

you have to admit it if Paul believed this how true must it be?
  • John Boger - In Reply on Matthew 2 - 4 years ago
Hi. Thank you for your response. Melville is dense. Another wonderful work by his is called Bartleby, a Story of Wallstreet. Many such biblical references therein. A great work.

    Sacha,

You have brought truth to the table several times. May all listen and learn.

Matthew 1:16 Jesus' lineage is connected to Jacob which eventually relates Jesus to Solomon rather than Nathan. One conventional explanation for these differences, from as early as John of Damascus, is that Nathan is the ancestor of the Virgin Mary, while Solomon is the ancestor of Mary's husband Joseph.

    Keep me in your heart.

John Here's an example of your challenge, everything in Gods word is there in its original language for a reason, a perfect example. One of my study observations the number four biblically stands for the world or earth. The reason why there are 4 Gospels is that each one magnifies a specific aspect of Jesus Christ Ministry on earth. Mathew as King of Kings mark as servant of God to man, Luke as a perfect man and John as the Son of God. So I understand what your seeking but it takes personal study and research but above all that God showing you what to look for and where. God Bless

    Gladys,

I would answer yes to that. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke Chapter 16, the rich man had died and was in Hades and he was in torments. Now, beginning at verse 25, Abraham says to the rich man, remember in your lifetime that you received good things and Lazarus received evil things? So the rich man must have had memory of his life.

So then down in verses 27 and 28, the rich man asks that Abraham would send someone to his father's house to testify to his brothers and warn them so they would not come into this same place of torment that the rich man was in.

It is interesting that he has the remembrance of his past life on earth. He remembers his family. He remembers his brothers. And he says, father Abraham, send somebody to testify to them so that they will not come to this place of torment.

Hello, this is just my opinion, not based on scripture, but I believe will have perfectly clear memories in the afterlife. We develop our character here on earth and if we genuinely follow Christ then we build our character to be Christlike. Those who don't care or are lazy or say they're Christians, but do nothing I think are in danger, just as many verses in the Bible say. Matthew 7:23 etc. Since we have freewill in heaven (angels did like satan), I believe people we do too. And if we have freewill and aren't robots, that means we had better NOT sin in heaven! God won't allow such evil in his presence. So we had better clean up and clean up fast and get it right here on earth, else, I have doubts that the unprepared and untransformed will be granted into heaven's gates. That is my own opinion, but as the scripture says, most want to go there, but most won't make it in.

    John,

I would like to share my thoughts on verses 3 and 4. First, to answer the question on whether or not Jesus responded appropriately. I'm one of those people that believe everything Jesus did was perfect, so I would have to answer yes to that.

Now for verses 3 and 4:

Verses 3 and 4 is the first of three temptations. But let me say this first, that even though Satan was tempting Jesus, He could never give in to temptation. Satan starts off by saying, "If thou be the Son of God, command these stones be made bread."

If I may share some technical information with you, the word "if" in the Greek text is what is called the first class condition assumed to be true. It should be translated "since." But please know that when Satan was tempting Jesus, he was not tempting Him to prove that He was the Son of God.

Satan is saying (since) you are the Son of God, then do this: Misuse your authority. Misuse your position. Be disobedient to your heavenly Father. But please note that Satan is not asking Jesus to prove Himself to be the Son of God, but actually questioning Him, baiting Him to disobey the commandments of God.

Jesus answers in verse 4, which is a quote from Deuteronomy 8:3. He says man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from out of the mouth of God. So this was what Jesus said when Satan tried to tempt Him by saying, you are hungry, right? You see these stones? Turn them into bread, satisfy your hunger, since you are the Son of God.

  • Dianne - In Reply - 4 years ago
John I think I understand where your coming from in the temptations, especially in luke he was hit with the basics, self preservation, environment, religion, power, all responses were handled by It Is Written which he used accurately and the adversary didn't. He never considered what was said His answers were direct. It Is Written. That's is the power of Gods Word.
  • I John 2:17 - In Reply - 4 years ago
    >"I am reading Matthew for the first time"

Elsewhere I believe it was you that commented the reason the gospels keep talking about demon possession, is that they had no tenable theory for disease in that age, and thus blamed demons for everything. And then I think you said Matthew's gospel was very much a product of its times in this regard.

So comments like that made me think you had a much more extensive background (e.g. also your comments on Moby Dick quoting scripture, etc.)

As far as Matthew, I'll pose a conundrum to you, that occurred to me just last week. Both Mark and Luke have Jesus floating up in the air to ostensibly go back to Heaven at the end of their gospels. Luke says that all eleven apostles witnessed this, and then alludes to it again at the beginning of Acts. Luke was of course just quoting others and almost certainly not a personal witness of this. And neither of the apostolic gospels (Matthew and John) have anything to say about it.

Go read the last chapter of Matthew and explain why he would not even mention such a spectacular event, which Luke asserts Matthew was a personal witness of. This is the sort of thing that really wrecks some people's faith. It doesn't mine, for well considered reasons. Even if the gospels are not "infallible" in the way most Christians affirm as a matter of faith, you can still read them and discern a pretty impressive reality underlying them all. We don't need infallible witnesses for anything else in history. And Jesus own words I think bespeak of his divinity -- as it says in John I think, "No man ever spoke as this man did."

The evolution of sin, is and was born into the surviving generations.

    Both Cain and Abel.

The seed is the same in both these children! Abel and Cain WERE BORN from the same Father. Adam! So why did God Favor Abel, over Cain? If sin is sin ,why could God have favor over one of another? Both are sons!

When God had to kill animals to cover Adam and eve, not only from the nakedness , but the weather that would soon change! The only creatures on the earth were those that God created! Can U imagine How He must have felt at, killing his own creation, having to change the plan! The evil angels came out of the disobedience and are the byproduct of it. In the beginning it was not so, everything was perfect and good!

What we don't know is what infuriated Cain to kill his brother. I will speculate that it had to do with property. The toil and hard work to clear land, plant ,and wait for an harvest, still unpredictable as even today!

If, Abel didn't watch his animals , they more than likely would have been found in Cain's crops?

So! The evolution of sin. It divides and will divide until the end, multiplying. It Will not procreate, but only in mans heart!

The evolution of mans depravity was not introduced from an outside creature. Everything was perfect even from the beginning! Sin was born into man through disobedience, the same seed that is in all of us was in Cain and ABEL. The unpredictable sin in man, God would find a way to control, it would be controlled by the law, Given through the faith of one called Moses! The dispensation of sin became evident even from one generation to another! This is why we see these generations in the scriptures! Boring as it may seem, every t and every I must be crossed! You are correct we should search the scriptures, sometimes reading between the lines can be dangerous, especially if you have not lived life! Instead looked out a window and assuming that their is life outside what our God has created ,is dangerous!

Brother Adam, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Jesus was not perfect, he came in the likeness of sinful flesh; But he was GIVEN the SPIRIT without MEASURE. This is how he could walk in the flesh and not sin. If he had only been given the down payment as we are given, he would have sinned as we do. If we were GIVEN the SPIRIT without MEASURE; NOW as he was, we could walk in the flesh and not sin.

We are only GIVEN the down payment NOW; but when we leave this body of flesh and put on the body of Christ (incorruption and immortality) we ALSO will be GIVEN the SPIRIT WITHOUT MEASURE.

When we return (second resurrection); with Christ, to judge the world; we will be able, as Christ, to walk in flesh and not sin. To judge the world in RIGHTEOUSNESS. We will be the FULLNESS of Christ.

English Sasha My understanding is Mathew is the royal lineage look up how many men are mentioned in the lineage that were kings, look at how many times Jesus christ who is the King of Kings talks about Kingdom of Heaven or Kingdom of God more than any other Gospel, In the gospel of luke is given the flesh side or as a man the perfect man in this Gospel the term son of man is used the most. This is my understanding, there's more to it.

Chris the KJV translators included the Apocrypha in their translation of the scriptures .

I happen to believe they got it right ! And the American Bible society that was instrumental in taking it out 250 years got it wrong . End of story for me .

With all you people that seem to know so much can you find the verse that certainly is in the KJV ? God speaking said , I have no flesh that I should forget , something like that . A young lady that have been a believer for only 1 yr can recall reading it too , but can not recall the place , I have read it at least 3 times but recalling it in location book ch and verse , I'm not good at that . If a person has not even read it I wonder how much Bible they even have . Please supply the Book chapter and verse thanks my original question !

John I don't view this an challenging my faith or belief, but from all your replies you appear to doubt what God says in His word, my question to you is what do you really believe. In the epistle of 2 Timothy 3:16 it says all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness. The words by inspiration of God in the greek is the word theopneustos which means God breathed think about that. Another example in the Gospel of Luke 1:3 the words perfect understanding [ perfect is akribos which is accurately and understanding is parakolou which means to follow along side of] so he was Given perfect knowledge to follow and write. Ties right into 2 Peter 1:20+21 and 2 Timothy 3:16. i'll go with Gods Word. God Bless

You don't need help at all. All you need is the understanding that GOD left His throne and decided to be The Son of Man, The Son of GOD - He prepared a flesh HE named JESUS. Meaning to say, GOD, The Holy Ghost is JESUS CHRIST Himself (3in1). Whatever GOD responds is what comes first/ the reference/ the source/ everything. Whatever our understanding is or whatever we expect Him to say comes to nothing for we are just a bunch of nothingness. Even that jeopardy champion you mentioned doesn't even deserve a mention when we talk about Dearest LORD JESUS for no one else can't save us from confusion, from incurable sicknesses and diseases, heartbreaking problems, drug addiction, hell but GOD Himself.

Dearest JESUS sets a benchmark then we follow Him. If you choose to go the other way around, unfortunately, you'll be hell-bound.

    Matthew 19:21

"Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."

Good morning brothers and sisters, as I place myself in a form of stillness and meditate on the word of GOD it gives a peace that surpasses the world's natural understanding for it can not comprehend it. We must be in the spiritual Realm to even tap in to the discernment to receive all that the Father has for us. Let's continue to walk by faith not by sight and trust GOD with all your heart for the things he is about to do now and in the future to come. Spend quiet time with HIM, HE will speak to your heart. Everyone have a blessed and prosperous week, I look forward to sharing more spiritual messages, and once again PLEASE GET VACCINATED protect yourselves and others, JESUS loves you all and so do I.

John There is nothing written in Gods word that doesn't have significant meaning or spiritual understanding, I never go to Gods word doubting what is says, I go and think why did He say it that way. It's a matter of mental attitude. God Bless
