But I think many people are being misled by thinking that God gives them all sorts of different "gifts" when in fact the only gift we are actually given is the gift of the Holy Spirit ( Acts 2:38).
But in our English bibles, we see the word gift or gifts and we associate the word gift with something that is given to us because that's what the English word means.
However, we need to look at those various places in scripture where we see the word gift or gifts where we think it is a gift that's given to us.
First of all, if the word gift is in italics, that means the word gift is not in the original language. The places where it's not in italics, we must look to the original language to see what the word truly is and what it means. Does it mean a gift that is given?
Most often, the word gift will be the word CHARISMA which comes from CHARIS which means expression of grace.
If it is the word DIDOMI, or DOREA, that means a gift that is given. We often see or hear people say God gave them a gift or gifts, but it cannot be backed up with scripture because when they show you in the Bible where it say God gives us these gifts, it is not the word gift as in something given to us.
The only gift given to us is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Everything else is just an expression of God's grace. So if someone says they have a certain gift, it must be backed up with scripture. What word is being used where gift or gifts is pointed out. And if it's in italics, that falls short altogether.
I would like to share a couple of wonderful verses here in. Listen here to Peter.
Acts 15:10-11. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
Peter is saying trying to Keep the law put a yoke on them and their fathers. But through the Grace of Christ they now can be saved even as the Gentiles!! BY GRACE, NOT THE WORKS OF THE LAW.
God bless.
I agree with Adam, We worship "PERIOD."
Not on a particular day, We worship Christ, PERIOD.
There's a lot of fuss pitting one day over the other. If a person worship the day that don't make the day a pagan day, It makes the person Pagan.
Here's why we "Fellowship " on the first day of the week, " Sunday ".
Leviticus 23:15-17. And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; SEVEN SABBATHS SHALL BE COMPLETE:
The sabbath is on a Saturday, Seven sabbaths gives us 49 days , The fiftieth day gives us Sunday. "Pentecost".
The term Pentecost comes from the Greek (Pentkost) meaning "fiftieth". It refers to the Jewish festival celebrated on the fiftieth day after First Fruits, also known as the "Feast of Weeks" and the "Feast of 50 days" Also The feast of shavuot.
16: Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a NEW MEAT OFFERING unto the LORD." The new meat offering represents the Church.
17: Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; THEY SHALL BE BAKEN WITH LEAVEN; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
"Leaven here some say represents Gentiles and some say it represents foreknowledge of the false doctrine to enter the Church."
The Church was born on the 1st day of the week. And Christ was resurrected on the 1st day of the week.
WE'RE CELEBRATING THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST.
Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was FULLY COME, they were all with one accord in one place. "Fully come here means that which was prophesied in Leviticus 23."
THE CHURCH WAS BORN 50 DAYS AFTER THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST!! On a Sunday.
God bless.
You've said well, and I also agree with Mishael. If I might say something about the very next verse, it says "For our God is a consuming fire."
The writer of Hebrews is speaking to Hebrew (Jewish) people and saying, "You want to go back under the Old Covenant? The only thing you have to look forward to is the consuming fire of God." That's it!
The writer is telling them that through Christ, you'll have eternal life and be part of the heavenly city where God dwells. But for those people who don't want to identify with Christ, they will suffer the judgment of God.
The Bible never says there were three wise men. The literal Greek word is the word MAGOI for wise men. It's where we get our English word magic and magician from. They were sorcerers.
They had come from the east. And in tracing back in history, and in tracing out the magi which they're called in English, back in the book of Daniel, as well as the book of Numbers, the magi were from the Mesopotamian area.
They never traveled in a small group, so it's unlikely that there were just three of them. People come up with the number three because of the three gifts that were presented but the Bible never says three wise men. We don't know how many there were that came, and we don't know their names.
They were actually a cast of Persian priests who were involved both as priests, as well as in the science field. They carried both aspects about them because they were involved in astrology and astronomy. In their priesthood in Persia, they relied on the stars, they relied on magic, and they relied on sorcery to gain their messages and to perform their function.
They believed that when a great person was born upon the face of the earth that a cataclysmic event would happen in the stars which is kind of interesting. They believed that this great man's angel is up in the stars and this cataclysmic event will happen right before he is born.
They literally predicted the birth of Alexander the great because they saw the cataclysmic events that happened in the stars and they knew that a great man had been born.
Why would the event cause them to come to Jerusalem? Well, in the Mesopotamian area, back in the days of Balaam, if you remember when Balaam prophesied, in fact, in Numbers 24:17, Balaam prophesied and said a star would come out of Jerusalem.
This was the same area that these priests came from. They had Balaam's prophesies. The Jews should have know the exact day that their Messiah would come. They missed it. But the magi knew!
May The Lord continue blessing you all richly
Maria
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.
I'd like to share a different point of view of your comment: "No where in the bible does it say to worship on Sunday. Sunday is a occult day of worship. Saturday is the Lord's day."
Actually, no where is the Bible does it say to worship specifically on Saturday. The Bible says the early Christians met on Sunday, the first day of the week: Acts 20:7
The Sabbath is Saturday, but I think you're confusing a day of worship and the "Lord's day" with Sabbath. Every day is the Lord's day and every day we should worship Him, not just once a week, and not just on Saturday. Sabbath is a day of rest.
When Paul first started carrying the gospel to the gentiles it was not totally settled in the minds of some about circumcision and the law, should the gentiles be circumcised and be under the law. A group of the sect of Pharisees told some of the gentiles they had to be circumcised and obey the law of Moses, this meaning the entire law, to be saved.
Acts 15 is what they are discussing, they came to agreement, they said God chose them, and they received the Holy Ghost the same as they did, Peter said; "Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?"
Paul addresses this many times in the letters he writes to the churches, we are not under the law, it is not by works of the entire law or just the 10 commandments, that salvation is received, it is by the grace of God through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
God bless,

19There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
This is not a parable. Hell is a literal place of torment.
Revelation 20
12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
You are welcome and thank you.
God bless.
