Psalms 67___ 67God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.

2That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

3Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

4O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

5Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

6Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

7God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

I am praying for our Nation as we heal from the Presidential election.

    Jesse,

Again, thanks for all that you have shared on the gospels and Acts. I am glad you took the time to be helpful to those who read your posts to consider and learn from this work you have done humbly and faithfully.

Thanks brother Jesse for another great informative series, now in the Book of Acts. It certainly reminds me of the necessary gifts the Spirit has given to His Church to teach & build up the saints in both the Word of God, in faith & in Christian living. My reading of the NT has certainly taken a new turn (in understanding & appreciation), even though I will still continue with the KJB as the best & most faithful to the TR. Blessings to you brother & the Lord empower you as you continue to progress in the NT for us.

    (Acts Part 62):

Acts 28:27 - For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

For the heart of this people is waxed gross (literally fat, insensitive), and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

In other words, they're going to hear it, but they are not going to understand because their hearts are hardened, therefore I will not allow them to understand.

This is all I have to share on the book of Acts. I will be going through Romans next as I continue on in this study from a biblical Greek perspective.

Blessings to you all in Christ Jesus!

    Biblical Greek Perspective

    (Acts Part 61):

Acts 28:11 - And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.

The Greek text does not say "Castor and Pollux." DIOSKOUROIS means twins. You might wonder where we get Castor and Pollux out of that. Well, it's actually a translation or interpretation.

The text actually says the twins were an ensign on the ship. And what they would do is they would put these ensigns at the front of the ship, and sometimes you see it in pictures where the front of the ship will extend out and there will be pictures on the side of various things that they would call good luck charms or gods.

But the twins that they are talking about, the King James tells us their names. Castor and Pollux are said to be twins of Zeus, the head god in Greek mythology, and that they are alongside to bring good luck to the sailors.

So that's why we have the names in our English text. And those two names are also part of the constellation Gemini, along with Greek mythology, and they work their way into that. That's where that comes from.

So, after three months, they took a ship of Alexandria. The sign on the ship shows us that they had the twins on there for sailing safety purposes, at least to watch over them as they sailed.

    Jackieboy80,

We have yet to see what Trump will do concerning Israel. In his las administration he showed strong support for Israel and I suspect that he will do the same in this administration.

In your post about Trump, you stated many unproven things about him and what will occur. We truly do not know the future of the next four years. We do know Scripture and we can see if any prophecies are fulfilled in his term. But until this happens, I will withhold speaking as if he is the antichrist.

Without getting into politics too much in this post, I just want to say that God is sovereign and it is He who ordains the appointment of leaders throughout history, both those who do good for the people they govern to bless them and those who do evil to the same people to discipline or punish people. My trust is in God and not in humans. As Christians, we should be charitable to those who share our political views and those who don't, but we also should be thankful He has chosen to have us be born in a country that upholds critical freedoms and the right to vote for the person who most represents our views and concerns.

    Dear jackiboy80,

I will be reading these Scriptures today and considering them in light of our conversation here. Thanks for your contribution to our discussion. If we focus on the topic or one another understanding of Scripture in our discussion instead of criticizing either of us for expounding or explaining why and how we understand Scriptures in our own words, I think that our conversations would honor God and the cause us to be conducive to the unity of the Spirit.

This forum is one of discussing as the tab "discussion" means. This site has the King James Bible for us to read for ourselves AND options for us to discuss the chapters/verses we read under each chapter we read. That is how I first came to this site: to read the King James Version. Upon reading I realized I could read what others have commented concerning that chapter. O was not aware of the expanded discussion forum this site offers until Chris responded to one of my comments and I wondered how did he read my comment, he directed me to this discussion forum. It has been three years this month since I began on this forum and I am very happy to have been led here. I have been blessed by the comments and interactions of others so much, learned so much, been challenged to reexamine my understanding of a Scripture or topic many times and have been helped in fine tuning the doctrines I hold based on Scripture.

I hope to converse with you more on this forum. It is important to be respectful of each others approaches to, understanding of, and expression of what Scriptures reveal to us from God.

    Jackieboy80

First of all, I hope that you can understand that I will not address your question here today as I need to reflect on this so that I can give you the best response that I can.

Jackieboy, I have read recently in posts you have made to others your thinking on your interpretation on Bible passages being discussed. I believe you were speaking about who it is that searches the things of God, the mind of Christ , and believers. In your post, you did gave your understanding of the topic, just as I have done in my explanation of how I understand biblical ideas. Yet, you cam down on me for doing just what you did AND the you post to me criticizing me for going outside of what is spoken in Scripture when you did the very same thing.

I find it disingenuous and hypocritical for you to act this way towards me. I understand that we may differ in how we interpret Scriptures because we come from differing backgrounds and histories in our Christian walk. If you agreed with me, I doubt that you would have acted this way towards my posts. So I think it is really important for both of us to examine ourselves before God asking for Him to reveal to each of us our true motivations and also how we are to address topics on this forum. It is a place where people don't just quote Scripture verbatum, but share our understanding. Even though those of us here may not always agree, we are helped by the discussions we engage in because, as Scripture says, it is like iron sharpening iron. By sharing our thoughts and listening to others in Christian love, we are building each other up the most holy faith we have received from God to lead us in the way of Christ and in sharpening our understanding of what God has revealed in the life of Jesus, our Lord and in the Word He has delivered to believers through prophets, apostles, teachers, pastors to establish and also as the way Jesus builds His church.

We can keep talking about what we understand of Scriptures here. That is best.

So , I'm aware that this ,my question to you , is definitly going to sound facetious . I'm really sorry about that because I don't mean or want it to sound facetious and it is a genuine question , and not just to you personally but to everyone on this site so please don't take it personally . Here goes.....

What part of God's Gospel of the Kingdom / Gospel of Salvation , whichever you prefer to call it , do you ( any one of us ) think that you ( or any one of us ) can explain better than God Himself does in the Bible ? ( His Word , that He has provided and preserved in order to help us to get closer to Him ) .

I could expand on this question but if I go any further with it I'm sure it won't get put up on the message board so , I won't expand or expound .

If you can , can you be very specific about which parts need your ( any of you ) clarifiction and explanation because it's not clear enough in the Bible .

Please don't be offended , this is a genuine question , the answers to which I am genuinely interested in .

    Hello Jackieboy80,

I agree that Scripture is what we base any of our ideas concerning God, salvation, and humanity. So, it's important that we read and learn from Scripture constantly so that our understanding is rightly formed.

I do disagree with you in that I don't think that anyone can truly come to Scripture without perceptions and what one has learned in the past because of the type of moral beings that we are. We cannot put away our own understandings and come to the Scriptures with a blank slate. I think that this is impossible. But we can trust the Holy Spirit to teach and lead us through His sanctifying work in believers.

My thoughts on our approach to Scripture is that we should pray that we will be given properly formed doctrines that we learn from Scriptures AND from those who are more informed than we may be as they expound on Scriptures on specific chapters, verses, or teachings/doctrines mentioned in Scripture. God has appointed pastors and teachers in the church. And these are for our benefit to better understand God's Word and grow in our ability to correctly handle the Scriptures.

Solo-style approaches to discovering Bible truths has led to all kinds of aberrant teachings and false beliefs over the centuries. But when believers place themselves in an environment of fellow believers and those God appoints to teach us, we will make needed adjustments to our thinking about biblical things. We should definitely approach Scripture with proper reverence, respecting its authority in all it teaches and also pray for an openness to have the Holy Spirit bring changes to our thinking through the input of other believers and us checking what is said by others against Scriptures.

The church is the communion of saints and as a community of faith we are to be interactive with each other as we learn together what God is teaching in His Word.

I know that you may not agree with me on this matter and we can agree to disagree on this.
  • GiGi - In Reply - 1 year ago
Yes, I agree with your prayers.

I pray today, Father, that you will cause our election to be fairly and accurately by those voting and those who handle the ballots and tabulate the votes. We ask that you prevent the counting of any votes that are from anyone who is ineligible to vote, prevent any ballots from being counted twice, changed by precinct helpers or by machines, and from anyone voting for anyone else whether under pressure, who is deceased, or whether someone received a ballot erroneously. Do not allow anyone to be intimidated from voting.

I pray for peaceful acceptance of the outcome by both parties and that people in our country will not resort to violence, rioting, destruction of property, or looting. I thank you for this country that you sovereignly caused to come into existence and the principles laid out in the constitution and bill of rights that protect the rights bestowed by You upon its citizens. Keep this country free from communism and socialism as we know how destructive these systems are to peoples' everyday lives and freedoms. I pray that You will help our citizens grow to become less racist in all sectors of the population so that love for neighbor can abound.

And most of all, bring many Americans and immigrants to salvation through the power and working of Your Holy Spirit who makes alive what is dead due to sin by regenerating many and drawing and enabling them to faith in Jesus when they hear the gospel shared either for the first time or after many times. Return prodigals who have strayed from You and restore them to faith through repentance and acceptance of the truth of the gospel once again. May they once more grow in love and adoration of You and now the joy of your salvation again and forever. We ask all this in the name of our precious Savior, Your Son, Jesus Christ.
  • Jackieboy80 - In Reply - 1 year ago
I agree . Humans like to try to figure things out through their own perspectives , their own so called intelligence .

The Bible is its own interpreter , God is not the author of confusion , we do that when we don't listen properly to His Word as whole and allow it to show us the Truth , His Truth . Not our interpretation of it based on our own perspectives and personalities and agendas . We have to put ourselves aside and just allow Him to guide us and bring us to Him at the pace that He chooses for us . We can do nothing of ourselves and we really need to believe that and understand what that really means in terms of our relationship with Him and His Son . Submission is the key but that is not something that comes easy to most of us .
  • David0921 - In Reply - 1 year ago
The Whole Bible is for us today. God's recounting of His dealings with Judea and Israel, while absolutely historically accurate, are also pictures of God's dealings with the churches and congregations throughout the Church Age. And particularly as we approach the end where God is opening up truth that has been hidden until our day as we read in the closing chapters of Daniel.

The Old Testament prophetic books, like Jeremiah, Isaiah, Hosea, Amos and others are today's newspaper.

To come to truth, requires God in His Mercy to open our Spiritual Ears to Hear as we search the scriptures, comparing spiritual things with spiritual, applying the biblical hermeneutic that God lays down in His Word. And not a hermeneutic that comes from the mind of man, which unfortunately has been the practice in the churches throughout the majority of the Church Age.
  • Jackieboy80 - In Reply - 1 year ago
I think so too . This explains why so many things from the Old Testament are also in the new . Have a look at Deuteronomy Ch 21 , how many things from it appear in the new Testament almost word for exact word .

The Bible is a whole and should be studied as such . Those that neglect the Old are missing out on increasing their faith enormously . When you find a pattern between the Old and New it's like finding a pearl of great price , a real treasure , all the more precious because you ( by the Will of God ) found it yourself , He Himself intervened in your studies and showed you something . No better feeling than that !

    (Acts Part 60):

Acts 28:4 - And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

The word vengeance is HE DIKE, pronounced Hay-Dikay. It is the word for justice in Greek. It means the justice. HE DIKE is the name of the goddess of justice, the goddess of right and wrong.

So, what they're saying is HE DIKE is judging him, because the philosophy of the day, just like it is in our day unfortunately, is that bad things happen to bad people. You have to do something wrong to deserve such bad things. "A God of love would not allow you to suffer." And good things happen to good people!

Acts 28:7 - In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island. This is the governor of the island. His name is Publius. PUBLIUS means popular, and that is a title. I guess he named himself that. "Mr. popular!"

Acts 28:8 - And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

The phrase "bloody flux" is the word DUSENTERIA I the Greek and is where we get our word dysentery from.
  • Jesse - In Reply - 1 year ago
    (Acts Part 59):

Acts 28:2 - And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

So, it says in Verse 2, and the barbarous people, literally the barbarians, so all of a sudden you think of tribe people with spears. But the word barbarian is actually a word that is made up from the Greek language.

A barbarian to a Greek person is anybody that does not know Greek. Anybody that does not know Greek, they are barbarians because when they talk it sounds like they are saying "bar-bar."

In other words, nothing! So, to a Greek, a Hellenist, they would call non-Greek speaking people barbarians. That had nothing to do with their education or way of life. It was just a barbarous people.

Acts 28:3 - And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and basically what the Greek is saying is that he would go along and he would pick up all these sticks until it became a bundle, and he would put the bundle on the fire.

When Paul gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat and fastened on his hand.

This viper is called ECHINDA, which means a small venomous snake. So, this viper came out of the heat. Some speculate that knowing what an ECHINDA looks like, that it looked like a stick.

With the cold weather going on, he was just "stiff," and Paul was picking up sticks. He can't see that well and he lays it in the fire. And of course, the heat woke it up. It would wake me up too!

    (Acts Part 58):

Acts 27:17 - Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

    Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship;

Now it is interesting because BO ETHEO is the Greek word for helps, and in social life, that's what it means. It means to cry out for help. If you were in trouble and you cried out for help, it would be BO ETHEO. But when it is applied to ships, it means ropes.

So, when they put "helps" around the ship, it's the same word for ropes in nautical or navigational terms. And what they tried to do is put the ropes around the ship, underneath, and up above to try and hold the ship together so they wouldn't lose their cargo. That's the first thing they do when they're caught out in these storms.

And so, they used helps undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, they strake sail, and so were driven.

Acts 27:22 - And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

And now I exhort, or encourage you, to be of good cheer:

Yea right! What is this guy teaching, positive thinking? We been out there, it will be two weeks, in 150 to 160 miles per hour wind speeds, the ship is about torn apart and everybody thinks they're not going to live, and Paul says, "Cheer up!"

The word good cheer means have courage. Well, that is a nice pep talk to keep everybody in a good frame of mind, but it's not going to work! But he says, be of courage for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

Factual statement! Nobody onboard this ship is going to lose their life. We'll lose the ship but not loss of life.

    (Acts Part 57):

Acts 26:24 - And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

"Beside thyself" is the Greek word maniac! Festus said, "Paul, you are a maniac," right in the middle of his testimony!

Acts 26:28 - Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuades me to be a Christian.

You've probably heard debates about this as to whether it's a question, "Are you trying to make me a Christian?" Or he's stopping him, saying, "You almost got me." Well, the word almost is not even "almost" close. In the Greek, it is literally OLIGOS which means a few or little. And it is associated not with time, but with words. So, Agrippa says to Paul, "With a few words, you are persuading me to be a Christian."

Acts 26:29 - And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

I would to God is an Optative Mood, which means it's a wish. I wish to God that not only you, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, that is, a little, and altogether such as I am, except for these chains.

Acts 27:14 - But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

The term "tempestuous" is where we get our word typhoon from. It is equivalent to our hurricane. It's called a typhonic wind. This was 150 to 160 miles an hour. EUROCLYDON actually means a north-easterner, the wind coming through.

They started sailing over and as soon as they got away, all of a sudden, this storm came up and they actually shipwrecked on Malta. And at that time, the storm will have raged for 14 days. So, you can imagine the scene they are up against.

They thought that because there was a soft wind and clear weather, that it was a sign that it was like approval for them. But as soon as they took off, all of a sudden, the winds came up. And the storm came up. A typhoon!

    Biblical Greek Perspective

    (Acts Part 56):

Acts 25:21 - But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.

But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, and Augustus is the name for the emperor. In fact, it is the Latin term for emperor.

Augustus, and in fact, the Greek word is SEVO. It means somebody who you show reverence towards. But Augustus is the Latin word for emperor.

I commanded him to be kept until I might send him to Caesar.

Acts 25:22 - Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.

Then king Agrippa said to Festus, I would also hear the man myself.

In the Greek text, it is the Imperfect Tense, and it shows that I have been continuously in the past wanting to hear the same guy. I've heard about him.

Acts 26:2 - I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:

Paul says, I think myself happy, and right then and there you know that that's not what Paul said. The word happy is the word MAKARIOS. It is the same word used in the Sermon on the Mount for blessed is the one. It's the word for blessed or blessing.

But the Greek word MAKARIOS for blessing has nothing to do with human happiness. It literally means to experience the fullness of something. So, a blessed or happy person is someone who's satisfied. They're filled.

Acts 26:18 - To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

We have one of those little phrases again. It's by faith "into me." That is how it literally reads.

Thanks Jackieboy80 for your clarification. We don't know why some postings take a little longer to show up; maybe this Site's verification engine is also inclined to take short breaks from its 'heavy' workload. And since MotherMac was seeking other people's views on the matter of "the mind of the Spirit", I'm sure your understanding has given both her & others another way of reading that portion of Scripture. So please be at peace: you were not being contentious in any way. Blessings.

AND WITHOUT A PARABLE SPOKE HE NOT

Luke 8:10 "And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand."

Mark 4:9-12 "And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them."

Mark 4:33,34 "And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples."

Matthew 13:33,34 "All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

Daniel 12:4 "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased."

Daniel 12:8,9 "And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end."

In the Bible, a PARABLE is an earthly story with a Spiritual meaning. Christ, God Himself, is the author of the entire Bible and He declares that "without a parable spoke He not".

Is not then every historical account in the Bible not only a literal account but also a HISTORICAL PARABLE teaching some aspect of the Gospel? ceremonial Law, lamb of God, book of Ruth, etc.?

    Mind of the Spirit___

I appreciate both of you for your reply to my question on Romans 8/27.

"And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will ofGod."

You definitely proved that the "TRINITY" exists and are One.

    The Spirit is a person.

Your information helped to clarify the scripture in

1 Cor. 2:16 that speaks about the

    "Mind of Christ."

"For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

    And the scripture in

    Ephesians 4:23 that speaks about

    "Your Mind"

"And be renewed in the spirit of your mind."

I close by saying that God is a Spirit. We worship him in spirit and in truth.

    Amen: Thank you!

Hi Chris , I enjoyed your reply to Mothermac and I wanted you to know , that my reply to her was composed and submitted by me , one minute after I composed and submitted my response to Tdianne .

My response to Mothermac was not in anyway made as a response to your response to her , as I composed it and submitted it almost 24 hours ago but it's only just appeared on the site .

Don't know why it didn't come up at the same time as my response to Tdianne did , both posts were made within one minute of each other . Not that it matters except that , I don't want you or anyone else to think that I was being contentious and deliberately posting a response which is a bit different to yours , in order to be contentious .

I guess it's all to do with what time of day it is wherever we are when we post . I don't imagine that the moderators on this site work 24 hours a day and I'm not in the U.S.A. at the moment , I'm working in northern Europe .

Hello MotherMac. As you have read Romans chapter 8, the whole speaks of the life filled & led of the Holy Spirit. And then we come to Romans 8:26,27 which teaches us that the Holy Spirit helps God's children in their infirmities; and this I feel refers specifically to how we should pray to the Father when we are ignorant of the facts of the problem (whether of ourselves, of others & of matters of the world). So when we earnestly come before the LORD in prayer, with heavy hearts over some matter deeply affecting us, the Spirit of God enables us to pray, intercedes for us & takes our maybe disjointed uninformed prayers, conveying it intelligently before the Father's Throne.

This thought then leads me to verse 27, of the vital inseparable relationship between the Father & His Spirit Whom He has sent out into the world & especially into the lives of His children. It is God "Who searches the hearts" and it is God "Who knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit". To those who believe that God's Spirit is just a force of God would have to concede that the Spirit of God is not a mere force from God but a very real Being (Person) of God Whom God has sent forth to accomplish His Will on the Earth. His Spirit has a 'Mind', which means He holds & expresses the very same mental attributes & Will of God to fulfil God's Purposes. The Spirit is truly God in us ( John 14:16,17) & God working before others.

This can be confusing as we can somewhat understand Jesus, God's Son as walking on Earth & living a sinless life, perfectly performing the Father's Will. But when we speak of the Holy Spirit Who can't be seen, having a Mind (v27), or demonstrating intelligence ( 1 Corinthians 2:10,11); having feelings ( Ephesians 4:30); or having a Will ( 1 Corinthians 12:11), & many other Works, then our understanding of this is quite tested. Even as Jesus holds all the attributes of the Father ( Revelation 2:23, "He which searcheth the hearts & reins"), the Spirit's Mind fully aligns with God.
