Here is some thinking outloud, it seems interesting. A captive is someont that is capture no fault of theirs. and a prisoner is something they have done to be in prison. Part of the verse say proclaim (maybe teach them) and the captives go free and the other part of the verse seems more involved -Open the door for them for them to go free. Matt 5:25 seems to say to me that if you are a prisoner, satan has put you there from being under Law instead of Grace. I don't know here but captive seems to be like something someone did to you like maybe unfaithful husband ruined your marragie and now you seem captive to hurt or unforgiveness. So maybe when we pray for people we should ask God if they are a prisoner or captive? prisoner or captive , satan did it and needs to be dealt with through God's power that is released through us. But just wanted to give the person some truth and keep them free.

all of the disciples said the same, but Jesus' comments were directed to Peter. Why ??
  • Ted Grant on Isaiah 53 - 12 years ago
Bits of this chapter were used by the New Testament writers when composing their stories. They had been told the Old Testament predicted the coming King and so they searched the Holy Books for anything, no matter how weak, that would fit. It's not predicting, it's composing. Besides, verse 7 says "he opened not his mouth". That doesn't fit, so we'll ignore it?
  • Randy on Revelation 22:12 - 12 years ago
How can people read this verse and still believe a person goes to heaven or even hell when they die? And 1Thes. 4:16 goes supports this.
  • Ted Grant on Numbers 31 - 12 years ago
We are supposed to believe the baby boys killed deserved to die, because they would mislead the Chosen People when they grew up. Hmmm. I'm not sure this is a good reason for killing baby boys. Also the baby girls were kept, not for sinful purposes, but as slaves. Again, I am not convinced. The God Lovers will have to try harder. Besides, God said Do Not Kill, but here He commands that extermination of the Midianites. I'm having trouble reconciling these conflicting instructions. Maybe it's the Devil in me that is blinding me from the truth? Perhaps, but who made the Devil? and who made me? It's all very confusing.
  • Tim Webb on Psalms 66 - 12 years ago
For Mike above; you are clearly in the fires of affliction.
Do you truly believe in God? Because if you do, then you must know that this life is only the beginning, and not the end. This is why Christians rejoice always, because they know that they will meet their loved ones again in paradise, assuming that they were the Lord's too. All tears will be wiped away, and in His presence is fullness of joy.
"The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord". We are told to worship the Creator, and not the blessings He has given us; in this case, your parents and your wife.
But if your sole interest is in this transient world, then truly, things are unendurable. Perhaps God is calling you to look upon the end of all things; an end which can only ever be fully satisfying if spent in His presence.
Remember, where your heart is, there is your treasure also.
But once you ask the Lord Jesus to enter your life and your heart, then He has said that He will hear you, and grant you your request.
"Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you".
God bless, and keep, and strengthen you. "All things work together for good to them that love God".

  • Rene gavito on Genesis 4:17 - 12 years ago

  • Mike on Psalms 66 - 12 years ago
I enjoy reading the bible, but I find it hard to believe in a God that has taken both my parents at a young age and now he is taking my wife from me, she has ALS and has 3 to 5 years to live according to the Doctors. How can I worship and love a God that has taken all my family from me? What have I done to earn his wrath and what can I do about it? I prayed constantly when my mom was dying from cancer and it did no good, same with my dad. The pain of watching my wife slowly dying each day is more than I can bear and no amount of praying has lightened the load.
  • Richard on Genesis 9:27 - 12 years ago
Are you kidding me? Are not the so called Jews of the Tribe of Ashkenaz which is of Japheth? Or am I reading the Scriptures wrong? The 12 tribes - Judah being one - is of Shem. Two different lineages.
  • Steve wells-Pastor on Wisdom of Solomon 1 - 12 years ago
This first chapter sounds like a continuation of Proverbs. From the description of the apocrypha and the history of it, It is very clear to me that these books of the Bible should never have been removed! Every time i learn new spiritual information God always asks me Do you believe it? We have a clear choice to believe or not. The question is, do you believe the apocrypha should have been left alone and remain a part of the Bible and be taught and preached by Pastors? I, for one, promise God and you that I will study the apocrypha and will preach it and the entire Bible!
  • Grant on Romans 8:29 - 12 years ago
Remember, what was the image of Jesus at this foreknowegde? He was like his Father, a spirit in the heavens. The holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, will be like Jesus, a spirit. Heb. 3:1
  • Sam on 1 John 1 - 12 years ago
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.( GAL. 6:7 ) It was the same Apostle that wrote this thru the inspiration of GOD(2TIMOTHY3:16)

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people-
    HEBREWS 10:26-30

WITH THIS YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS UNSCRIPTURAL AND HERESY TO CONCLUDE THAT ONCE SAVED, YOU ARE FOREVER SAVED.

Philippians 2:12 Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

NOTE: DON'T LIVE AND SWIM IN SIN WITH THE MINDSET OF YOUR FUTURE SIN ARE ALREADY FORGIVEN YOU.
  • Jonathan on John 3:5 - 12 years ago
I am not a religious man. Whilst I was Baptized a Christian by my parents, I find religion baffling! Those words, written so long ago, are taken in so many different contexts. Surely it is right over wrong that matters, not semantics? Act like a Christian, help your fellow man. Or maybe is it easier to blog?
  • Therese on Matthew 24 - 12 years ago
EEEks... Up until NOW,I was told that Matt: 24 vs. 40 said. that ONE men in the field and ONE women at the grinder mill would be left TAKEN and the other would be left BEHIND. The word BEHIND is in NO TRANSLATION of any scriptural analysis, no matter what bible you check. How can people teaching others the WORD, just ADD stuff at a whim. I read on in this chapter and there is NO MENTION that those that are LEFT, will suffer some kind of tribulation. The BOTTOM LINE until the last verse simply seems to tell those LEFT to be on their guard because they don't know the day or the hour of THEIR OWN DEATH. Seems like it just warning us ALL to BE PREPARED. Who is ADDING to scripture. I thought scripture says that NOTHING should be added??? No fair to confuse.

  • Mark on John 3:5 - 12 years ago
All men and women of God should pray before opening the word of God and surrender to his will, no mater what we find it to be. The prayer should be for God to remove all the wordly motivation that we would all have otherwise have (like wanting a verse to mean something before we even study it or so we can argue with someone). I don't see how anyone that has prayed that prayer could possibly see this verse to be about water baptism. The entire chapter is talking about the difference between being born physically and being born spiritually. Why would this verse suddenly be about anything else? Water and of spirit; one has to be physical birth and the other spiritual birth. After all, it's not "born of spirit and of spirit". Water is simply the physical birth. Remember, this was written in an ancient language (not even exactly the same as today's Greek).
  • Joe on Psalms 55 - 12 years ago
    Elizabeth,
The meaning of “burden” in this verse can be many things based on the situation of the reader. It can be material like you were asking about, but it can also be physical or spiritual. What’s your burden? What ails you? What’s your worries? Your troubles? Is your heart heavy for the problems of a friend, relative, or your own? Are there problems dealing with family or people at work? What’s your issues or burdens? The point is that if you have them and you’re troubled, the Psalmist reminds us to cast them on the LORD. Here’s two versus similar to Psalm 55:22 that might help you decide what “burden” means to you. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” 1 Peter 5:7 “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Before God create us and the world he is a father to Jesus.. Being a parent you want your child to love and respect you. Why bite the hand that provides and feeds you?
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 Corinthians 9:9 - 12 years ago
Ministers perform the most important duty of giving the eternal Word of God to a lost world. How could they hear except He sends a preacher? Thank God for the man of God and when we see Jesus it will be worth it all.
  • Ben on Leviticus 19:28 - 12 years ago
I find it hard to believe that people who have free will and the ability to live their lives accordingly are subject to judgement from others. First of all did or did not Noah get found drunk and naked from under a tree? Yet he was still graciously remarked by God as a lead by exanple man in human flesh and noted what he was used for, as well as the fact he was found drunk which is a sin.. We are human we make mistakes and if i decide to bite my nails or peel away a scab i am suddenly an evil sinner who is satanic? So speaking of the dead, if i have a cross tattoo on me representing my love for the ALIVE ALIMIGHTY, im a patethic sinner who has self esteem issues? What about people who are burned/marked by other people? You judge without knowing or knowing which is a self esteem issue for yourself and also hypocritical. Worry about yourself and your own. Quit trying to make things happen according to your own beliefs. Thats why we are in war
  • George Hartwell on Mark 16 - 12 years ago
Comment about verse 16. Does this mean that anyone who does not believe in the Christian God will be damned and sent to hell, or does it mean that anyone who does not believe in any God at all will be damned and sent to hell? If it is the former, then this is really bad news for all the otherwise good people around the world who have been indoctrinated into a religion other than the Christian one. And what about all of the good people around the world who are Atheists who simply cannot accept religious beliefs? Of course, these Atheists do not believe in the supernatural, but do Christians believe that they will be damned to hell?
  • George Hartwell on Genesis 38 - 12 years ago
Comment on verse 9. When I look up the word Onanism in my dictionary, I find that, in the definition of the word, there is a reference back to Genesis 38:9, but there are two definitions given to describe what Onan did to displease the LORD so much that the LORD slew him. Does this mean that Onan actually did both of these things, one after the other, or are biblical scholars unsure of which thing he did? Either way, it does seem a very draconian punishment. Has anyone any thoughts on this, please? Thanks in advance.
  • Larry Taylor on 1 Thessalonians 4 - 12 years ago
How did this teaching of the apostle Paul ever come to be called the Rapture? The answer lies in the word translated "shall be caught up" (Greek harpagésómetha). In Latin, this word is rapere, from which "rapture" is derived. Free of any arcane or mysterious interpretation, it simply means "to be caught up," "snatched," or "seized."

The trouble begins when people confuse this meaning with another definition of rapture that has nothing to do with the biblical concept: "a state or experience of being carried away by overwhelming emotion; a mystical experience in which the spirit is exalted to a knowledge of divine things." When people blur these meanings, a picture develops of a strange, otherworldly experience preached by fire-breathing preachers to compel sinners to repent before God's wrath burns them to cinders.
  • Joe on John 2 - 12 years ago
    T Bennett,
It is by no means disrespectful. In fact the opposite is true. First, “What have I to do with thee?” Is like saying what do you want me to do? Second, when Jesus refers to Mary as “Woman” the Greek translation does not denote any disrespect. In John 19:26 while Jesus was on the cross he was deeply concerned about her sadness and grief, yet again he refers to Mary as “Woman”. He loves her as he does all of us. There was certainly no disrespect.
  • KJB on Acts 2 - 12 years ago
"Chaz could I share some Bible(KJB) with you? Acts 2:38 couldn't save a tadpole. The theif died under the N.T. Check the Bible not your pentecostal preacher. ( John 19:33) But when they came to Jesus, and saw that He was DEAD ALREADY, thy brake not His legs: Jesus died before the theif my friend. You say so what. Ok. ( Heb 9:17) For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. See he died under the N.T. Uh oh. Now look at the context of John 3. Water baptism isn't even mentioned. The first birth is always water ( Gen 1:20, Pr 5:16-18, Isa 48:1). Nothing like a King James Bible to clear up false doctrine. Check ( Acts 2:38). It is a bunch of Jews (verses 5,14,22,36) in the chapter that require a sign ( 1Cor 1:22). And if you get arrested for stealing, is it in order to get stealing, or because you had already stolen. Pray about that and see what you think. Amen."
