Bible Questions Page 638

    Hello!

This is your friendly Atheist dropping in to ask a few questions... I had a revelation today and needed the Bible for a reference. Specifically Genesis. The "Creation" story.

Now, as a "free" thinker, you should all be able to wrap your heads around the idea that Genesis looks to be written out of order. Seriously. The universe, the stars, and the Sun would all have had to be "made" before the Earth its self. We know for a fact that the Sun gives us our light source and that with out it it would be very very dark, (and cold). Believing that the earth was created before the Sun is just plain gullibility. Not only that, but plant life was supposedly made before the creation of the Sun. Seriously? I'm also not seeing any references to the "creation" of the atmosphere, oxygen/air, or the magnetic poles, the massive molten core of the Earth, nor any mention of elements and other "specifics" that science has answered.

Please, take a step back and look at this logically, from a scientific view. Analyze and use what we know as basic fact to see the flaws in this, and that it was written by man to gain power over an ignorant people in a time when most people were uneducated and believed just about anything that gave them answers.

    To lolol3456's

If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?

Please remember that the Bible, the inspired word of God came, through many characters, all with their own personalities and ways of expressing the reality of God. These personal encounters with God are meant as a guide to cultivate our own relationship with the Creator.
We need to check our personal experience with the scriptures to be sure that we are on the wright track and that we don't do some of the extreme things that we read about or see in the news. Keep reading your bible and asking questions, usually the answer is near the question. God will personally give you the answers if you're sincere.

    Good luck and God Bless

Has anyone ever heard of the word fideism? according to Merriam-Webster FIDEISM. : reliance on faith rather than reason in pursuit of religious truth. — fi·de·ist -ˌdā-ist noun. — fi·de·is·tic ˌfē-(ˌ)dā-ˈis-tik ... To hate my mother or my father or anyone else is in my opinion a Jim Jones hypocrisy - where people are lead like blind sheep to mass slaughters and suicides - to contort or interpret this to mean anything other than the acceptance of unsound reasoning. To "know thy self" the great Imhotep proclaimed is where one learns all things as self being the building of that temple towards The Creator. If you "hate" yourself, your mother etc..you tear away the foundation of understanding and forgiveness which is even contrary to Christian theology. No matter how you slice it, if according to your own Bible Matthew 5:37 says," But let your Yes be Yes and your No, ' No. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one".

  • Mike on 1 John 1 - 14 years ago
(Bane's) To make sure I am able to answer your question the best I can. Could you answer a question for me. You have refered to an orthodox enviroment, Baptist Church friends, and ten other friends which are wondering also about baptism in the Holy Spirit. What church are you going to, or under which religous group were you converted? This will help me understand your question much better.
    God Bless Mike

Heaven is the spiritual realm all around us, Gen.22:11 "And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said here am I."
There are many accounts of angelic encounters throughout the scriptures, angels seen by mortal men, when these angels are not visible to the human eye that doesn't mean that they have vanished, but that they are only visible in the spiritual realm.
Rev. 1:10 John says " I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day,and heard behind me a great voice,as of a trumpet"
John goes on to say the amazing things that he saw while in the Spirit. Not only does the spiritual realm of Heaven contain the angels, it also is presently home to the demons and the devil.
Job 1: 6 & 7 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence cometh thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, form coming to and fro in the earth (natural realm) and from walking up and down in it.
Rev 12:8&9 "... neither was their place found any more in heaven(spiritual realm) (9) And the great dragon was cast out that old serpent called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth (natural realm) and his angels with him."
This is a bit scary to me, to think that Satan and his angels will be in a visible form, and maybe they are here now, some people do some pretty unimaginable things, but here is where hope lies
Rev. 21:1 "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."
The new heaven and the new earth will be one just like it was in the garden of Eden. How wonderful it will be, Amen. Let us not "bite" at each other lest we be devoured and let our comments be for the growth of the body of Christ our Saviour. The scribes and the pharisees were religious, let us not be like that.
Religion is man made, we are God made.

    God bless

This verse in the bible leaves me to question not so much is the WORD of God is true and fact, but more so of the interpretation of this verse. I say the same that in the scriptures salt has been used as a seasoning and preservation. So, how is it that in this verse that Lot's wife turned into a physcial pillar of salt? Or is that scripture meant in different translations that Lot's wife because of her looking back into the city of Sodom that she was preserved in her memory of what she was missing or loosing? I believe something happened to Lot's wife BUT did she actually turned into a HARD CONCRETE PILLAR STATUE or was she perserved as salt in her mind that she was consumed and turned back to look upon what she was going to miss as she departed the city of Sodom?
  • Levi on Revelation 22 - 14 years ago
It says at the end, "Amen." Does that mean the books/bible is a big prayer?
  • Mike Carrell on Matthew 17:27 - 14 years ago
It is part of a parable. After his disciples have been called and leave behind their old nets they will go fishing for people using the net of the good news! The temple tax was supposed to be used to keep His Father's house clean. Jesus tells Peter to go to the lake and cast a line. Peter is to go to the lake, instruct the convert in the good news and take him up from the waters in baptism. What is the 'weighty' thing drawn from the mouth of the newly baptized? The translaters of the Greek of course assume it is a coin since one sheckle, 'the weighty thing,' would mean that Jesus is offering the temple tax for both Peter and Himself; but the thing that is 'weighty' is the praise and thanksgiving that comes forth of the mouth of the newly baptized. The cleansing of the temple that Christ desires is for gratitude and thanksgiving to be given to his Father!
  • A sister in Christ on 2 Thessalonians 2 - 14 years ago
Does it really matter if it's not called 'Rapture'? 1Thessalonians cahpter 4:16 clearly states, "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." Wherefore comfort ye one another with these words." The bible does not tell us to haggle over exact words, but tells us to be ready and to draw people with love and not to alienate with debate. Wouldn't it be better to focus on leading the lost souls to Jesus than to be what we consider the most knowledgeble? The greatest of these is Love!

  • Ansophie on Genesis 1 - 14 years ago
The earth in Gen 1: 1-2 has a Spiritual meaning. The earth is our mind of understanding. There was light, meaning understanding. If this is not Spiritual, then why did God made the light on the first day, but only created the sun on the 3rd day? There is a few verses in the bible, that proves that the earth is a person/mind of person. Please see Isa 1:2, Rev 12:16, Isa 66:8, Luke 8:4-15, Hab 2:14, Eze 43:2 You will see that Jesus explains the parable of the seed which is sowed, but Jesus shows us that earth is our mind of understanding. We should serve God in Spirit and in truth. The Bible is a Spiritual book.

What does Matthew Henry mean by saying that the Almighty is able to chnge the Ethipian Skin?? Is Mr Henry advocating that black skin is the result of sin? Were the Jews white people? God used the anologyof the Ethiopian's sking to illustrate that there are many among us who will never change unless they are forced to by God's Judgeent; and then they are just reformers who will go back to doing the same thing after the punishment wears off. They will never truly repent! Skin colour My Henry has nothing to do with sin!!

Yes of course a woman can sing and praise God Almighty. Many women in fact are more intelligent than most men. However, that is not what Pual is saying. How can it be any clearer?Heaven and earth shall pass, but not His word.Women are not to allowed to teach or to usurp authority over the man.Any other way would contradict the scriptures. And we all know The Lord would never do that...

I think I understand this better after reading the commentary. The lesson I got from this is that God does not need our help to accomplish His purpose. I believe God could have accomplished Jacob getting the proper blessing without Rebekah getting involved and over anxious. Just a thought. What do you think?

  • Anna Mageo on Jeremiah 48:11 - 14 years ago
We are dull and unchanged. As we Christians we can be this way at times. Why? Because we are not poured out into the lives of others on a regular basis... Therefore we grow stale and distasteful. We need the fresh wine of the Spirit.. but first we must empty ourselves of careless, selfish indifferance
  • Richard on Esther 3 - 14 years ago
The Life style of the Jews is quite recommending. It was so glare that you could identify them by the life style etc.

This cannot be said of the Christian today? why have we compromise so much that we there is no different in simple moral issues.
  • NotYou on Genesis 5 - 14 years ago
@Myth Buster - Save it for another site. Also, do you really believe events occurred exactly as they happened in secular historical accounts? Weird you can put so much faith in a scientific book, that requires a good measure of deductive reasoning on topics with little evidence, and have so little faith in the Bible. You've busted nothing.
  • Richard L on John 1 - 14 years ago
Jesus Is God? What a ridiculous yet common false witnessing. "if you have seen me, you have seen the father." Were we all not created in the likeness of God? How many times must Jesus say "OUR father" until you finally get it? His story is not one of becoming God or the rebirth of God. It is about forfeiting his own will and living out the will of God, which he asks us all to do as well? Perhaps you bible thumpers need a reference. In John 20-16 he tells Mary to tell his brothers "I ascend unto my father, and your father; and to my god, and your god>" He didnt just say it, he told her to repeat it verbatim. Think about it. Thats what Jesus would do.

  • Judy Hoover on Matthew 13 - 14 years ago
No one knows the year, day or hour when Christ will return. If YOU live for Christ, live each as if it is your last. Meaning clean your house of sin(I.E. YOUR HEART). Jesus said "He'll come as a thief in the night!" I pray for anyone that feels Jesus has abandoned you. Jesus promise is to never leave or forsake us. He never said there wouldn't be trials & tribulation. If our Lord & Saviour suffered. Why wouldn't we, as his follower's? Take a second look & see if you were the one who left.
  • Judy Hoover on Matthew 12 - 14 years ago
Verse 12:38-40 Jesus is saying only unbelievers or the wicked in nature seek signs or miracles for verification. Christ is not a magician that performs on command. HE IS THE TRUE LIVING GOD, LORD & SAVIOUR, REDEEMER & THE ONLY NAME YOU CAN PRAY TO! The signs of Christ have been here since the beginning of the universe & before! Our Lord is supernatural, that means he's not limited inany way! He used Jonas & OTHeR WelL known biblical figures. To show the Pharisee's of his Father's signs through the old testament. Jesus was telling the Pharisee's his sign would be defeating DEATH & THE GRAVE! For 3 days Jesus died a physical death. He even ministered to those down in Hell. After 3 days Jesus rose with all power! HALLELUJAH! Jesus rose in the spirit, when you've been embalmed that it you're dead. THe stone had not been moved from the tomb. The guards were there all night. We're limited beings, I thank Jesus That I serve an unlimited GOD! For centuries people have been trying to dispute the word of God. Why don't have faith? You know why? You need a visual or physical sign. Jesus is a spirit, he's like the wind. You can't see it, but, you sure can feel it. Find out what Jesus is about & who he is. Don't be so quick to deny salvation! I'd rather live my life serving Christ & finding at the end he doesn't exist. Then to live a life NOT seving Christ & find out he DOES EXIST!!!!

  • Gerald Wilson on Luke 19:23 - 14 years ago
The debate seems to be about usury. Why Jesus would mention something with favor that the Bible speaks against. But if we take a deeper look, we understand it is not the usury, but the greed that motivated usury. In the case Jesus spake of, we find it was not greed, but respect of the Nobleman that would have motivated the servant to the act of usury. I myself think that all usury is not wrong, only that which is deceitful, begotten by extortion. One more thought, if usury is wrong, and both parties make an agreement that involves usury, then both are guilty, the lender, and the borrower. So in closing, I feel that as the secrets of the heart are known of God, the reason you lend for usury must be taken into consideration when judgment is passed. Let God do the judging, and let Him teach each individual. Another question I might ask, We know that in Business usury is a part of the gain. So is all Businesses wrong? Thanks for hearing me out. I'll close this book, and maybe the thoughts will help someone sort out their thoughts. God Bless us all with His understanding on this subject. Pastor Gerald

why would god do this to the people.. did he fear that they may actually reach him with a tower?

"...he that hath seen me hath seen the Father..."
    ( John 14:9)

We recently went to New York City. Before we left, I had "googled" everything I needed to know. I had used Google maps to go everywhere we were to go. I had gotten reviews, and saw personal pictures of where we would be going. Every aspect of the trip had been covered. (places we were to go, modes of transportation, places we were to stay, where we would eat, time schedules, weather temperatures...)

Because I had "googled" everything and virtually walked and seen all we were to do, when we actually did it, the virtual was so close to being reality. There were a few variables that the virtual could not convey: encounters with people (whether good or bad), mechanical breakdowns, delays which alter the abstract schedule, and the human factor of leaving something out and having to improvise on foot; but, overall, the virtual was a copy of the real. You could almost overlay the one over the other and have a perfect match.

Jesus said, "...he that hath seen me, hath seen the Father."

Much like "virtual" seeing to "reality" seeing, God has given unto us His Spirit to see things now, and things yet to be seen.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. ( I Corinthians 2:9-12)

Have you "googled" the Lord today, the date for the trip is impending?
  • Thomas on Genesis 11 - 14 years ago
I'm curious, if God knows the end from the beginning why did he see fit to destroy all flesh except that of Noah and his clan. Wouldn't he have seen the corruption coming when he made Adam and all that came after? Why didn't he just destroy them then and there?
