What Paul makes constant reference to is "Grace."
Unmerited favor in the sight of God is what God's
relationship with us is. Eph.2:8;"For by grace are
ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves
it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man
should boast. The "gift" we received from the hand
of the "Almighty" was paid for by the "Blood" of
our "Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." To try and
qualify so "blessed" a salvation by doing "stuff"
is an insult to the shedding of His "Blood." There
is NOTHING we can do to repay the debt. Only by
allowing Him to order our lives every day do we show we love Him. He said we would keep His Word
if we loved Him.Phil.2:13, also tells us that God
gives us the "will" and "ability" to please Him.
Phil.2:13,comes through the "Word" not man made
"incantations."

What Paul was telling the Church in ch.2&3 is that
"religious" activity amounts to no more than the
"curl in a pigs tail" when it comes to pleasing God. Doing "things," and faith in the doing of
those "things," in order to "appease" God is catering to the religious "flesh," and a rebuke
to the Spirit of Christ. We don't do to please God. When we please God the "doing" is His. Phil.
2:13, For it is God which worketh in you both the
will(desire to do)and to do(and the ability)of His
good pleasure. When we please God we will do!

I agree with "KP." If "fleshly perfection" is the
gateway to heaven,then the gates of heaven will be
closed to everyone. Years ago I asked my Pastor(a
conditional salvation believer)"Pastor our Church
believes in order to make it to Heaven we must live a 'good' life, right?" To which he agreed. I
then asked him(in essence)"Pastor, given that 'good' and 'bad' are subjective terms, where do we
draw the line between JUST 'good enough' to go to
Heaven and JUST 'bad enough' to go to hell." He had no answer. I then responded by saying, "there
is a line between 'good' and 'bad' it's called the
'Blood line.' It's the 'Blood of JESUS' Pastor."

God preserved this bloodline through many things that could have ended it. This shows that God has a plan set in stone. We can work against it, fight it, or try and stop it, but all we do will fail, and God's plan will be carried out. And when it comes to God, Heaven, and eternity, failing is the last thing we should want. See you there.
