To insight 777, that is definitely one way to see it. However, I believe it was God 's way of showing Melzar as well as Daniel that Daniel was speaking the truth. Pulse doesn 't sound to good to me. Neither does it sound to nourishing. He would have a deficiency in any nutrients not found in the pulse. Yet Daniel was healthier! I think this was purely God 's doing. I don 't think that castration was a part of it. Also, fatter does not necessarily mean no flesh missing. I do not consider myself fat yet I have no flesh missing. I am not meaning to contradict or argue and if you think I am, I apologize.

This bible verse contains the mystery of standing for godliness and sanctity, "but Daniel " this means someother youths were there who obliged the offer and went on to be defiled. Daniel didn 't just make the decision from his lips, he settled it in His heart, he thought about it, just like joseph who thought how he would do a wicked thing against his master aNd sin against God. He carefully weighed the consequences of the offer been laid on the table. It was a clear strategy by the devil to rid the young lads daniel and the other fellows of the glory they had attained in the training, because they were said to have been trained in wisdom sciences etc. Imagine the devil giving you a ticket to defile your estate. Daniel had to boldly tell the eunuch, " I am not going to defile myself ". He chose to say NO, we must ask for the grace to walk away from sin and defilement, because Sin stinks and sinks destinies. Peace

A brother in Christ referred the book of Daniel in a conversation among other things but I will share with my famy. It 's seems to be a great book to share with saints and nonbelievers to realize one of Gods many promises that God keeps through of trust and faith he shall keeps. God never change nor does he ever abandon us.

It is important to understand the role of Eunuchs in history. Eunuchs were often close to the royal families as advisors even as military advisors. When young men were defeated in war and chosen to be taken to the court of the King as advisors, first they were castrated. This helped assure the king that no matter how smart they were, they could not overthrow the king and set up a dynasty of their own. Also it was a symbol of complete submission to the king. Daniel was chosen for his intelligence, the king wanted to know everything about his defeated enemy. He also wanted to know scientific secrets. The kings meat and wine are the kings laws and beliefs. The law was in place that all slaves that were to be accepted into the kings court must be made a eunuch. That is the reason why an eunuch was placed over Daniel and his friends to instruct them of the kings law and to carry out that law. Daniel was blessed by God and was able to convince the master Eunuch and the King that he could be a servant of the king without this punishment. It seems that the fact that Daniel followed religious laws and not carnal laws of government put the king at ease that Daniel would never try to take over his government or harm him. Therefore the flesh of Daniel and his friends was fatter, meaning no flesh was missing, than the other slaves that had been taken to the kings court.

The history of Eunuchs in this time frame is interesting. When young men were defeated in war and chosen to be taken to the court of the king as advisors first they were castrated. This helped assure the king that no matter how smart they were, they could not overthrow the king and set up a dynasty of their own. Daniel was chosen for his intelligence, the king wanted to know all that Daniel knew. The kings meat and wine are his laws and beliefs. The law in place was that Daniel should be made an eunuch. That is why a eunuch was placed to instruct him, to carry out the law. Daniel was blessed by God and was able to convince the king that he could be a servant of the king without this punishment. Therefore his flesh was fatter, meaning no flesh was missing, than other servants of his kind.

Contrary to popular belief that The Lord is not interested in helping us with "earthly " wisdom, this verse shows that He is more than willing to help every student in any sphere of learning or academic venture to succeed! Coupled with James 1 5, this should bring joy and relief to students everywhere!

In my understanding Daniel was very committed to prayer. His actions and even his very thoughts he wanted to be pleasing to God. Also Daniel was born to a Royal Family.

Daniel chapter 1 :10 brings to light kind of authority a king wades during Daniel's era, hence the eunuch's fears. The entire chapter reveals the awesomeness God to make impossible situation possible

  • Rev. Eze Sunday Obioma on Daniel 1 - 11 years ago
Daniel had this understanding, that saying yes to God meant saying no to devil and his associates. He stood his ground and rejected the king's meat. This wise decision attracted God's favor upon his life and his friend's.
  • Mduduzi on Daniel 1 - 11 years ago
Be decisive, stand your ground and who you are and what you want. Daniel and his friends never douted God. They knew a will of God. They were not tempted to do or eat whatever is not in their line of belief. I think we in Christ should stand firm and word of God as a lamp to our path
  • Weda Brenda on Daniel 1 - 11 years ago

In Daniel chapter 1 Daniel has a right stand in the word of God in his heart that anything can defile his faith and even his soul he will tend not to compromise with it. As christian we must have a good foundation from the word of God by studying your Bible.
  • Kathleen on Daniel 1:9 - 11 years ago

Daniel and his friends knew God before they were brought to Babylon. They were taught the precept of the Word of God and they had the Word in their heart not their heads, no wonder when they got to the strange land, faraway from their homes and prying eyes of their parents and teachers they still held to their faith in God.They were not moved away because of the grandeur of the palace.Their God did not fail them.Parents should teach their children in the ways of the Lord, when they grow old they will not depart from it.
  • Valentina on Daniel 1 - 11 years ago
Good thoughts Dave. I think a dcenet rule of thumb is to do a 4-6 week book series followed by a 4-6 week topical series. Of course, we can create a hybrid like Marriage and Family from an Ephesian Perspective. I probably would leave the Ephesian part off of the series title but maybe not. We have four kinds of listeners in the congregation, those who listen primarily with their heart, mind, soul, or strength (or for inspiration, information, reflection, or application respectively). While every sermon perhaps should aim to develop content that hits all of these listener preferences, it may be easier to focus an entire series on one of these every four months or to preach a four week series with a different primary target (ie, heart, mind, etc) each week.
  • DAVID O. JACOB on Daniel 1:8 - 11 years ago
WELL DANIEL DETERMINED NOT TO DEFILE HIMSELF BASE ON HOW HE SAW HIMSELF IN GOD SIGHT. HE SAW HIMSELF AS HOLY SEED AND WHEN HE GOT TO THE STRANGE LAND HE KEPT HIMSELF FROM ANYTHING THAT DEFILED. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS AROUND US TODAY THAT DEFILE WHICH A GOOD CHRISTIAN MUST KEEP HIMSELF FROM. THOSE THINGS MAY SEEM INNOCENT BUT THEY POSSESS WHAT CAN DEFILE AND SEPARATE MEN FROM GOD.
