Deuteronomy Chapter 26 Discussion

There is Syrian, as in:

Syro-Lebanese and Syro-Aramaic.

If you find the dormant volcanoes, the former shore lines along the hill and mountain sides, you will see the land mass has changed from when Noah's Ark arrived and struck land and from when Abram aka Abraham was born.

That is why there was a king Tidal of nations. Tide or tidal are related to the ocean and sea tides.

You may not have thought when Jacob or Abraham "went down" that they did not enter into a hole in the ground. They went to a safer place than where the volcanic eruptions and vents were causing famines. Yet, in the Moses' era, the volcanic activity affected Egypt and left the land Jacob's children and other were to live in alone, except for some few local hot spots in the group of volcanoes. Besides the people who dwelled the land and the land itself changing. God had the people with Moses and Nun's son, Joshua safely passing through the SAFEST PARTS of the land.

Anyone who was listening to Moses and Joshua, obeying the directions could have been spared from the natural disasters.

If Jacob was a syrian so was Issac and Abraham and Terah They were uncircumcised but Abraham received the Promise and became the father of the circumcision and the uncircumcision Jew and Gentile a like. Thus th new covenant comes on the Gentiles thru Abraham the father of the circumcision and the uncircumcision th Gentiles.Thats y Jesus spoke of Naaman the syrian a leper being healed b/f any of the Jews.God always had the Gentiles in mind. Solomon made intercession for the Gentiles approx a 1000 yrs b/f Christ when he didicated his new temple. All of Christ disciples were Jews but they ALL had to be bornagain.Jesus only refers to the H.G. as the Promise not any human.Only a New Creature.GBU

Matthew Henry Commentary also: "as their father was called a Syrian, they might be called Egyptians so that their possession of Canaan being so long discontinued they could not pretend any tenant-right to it."

Matthew Henry may shed light upon verse 5. "A Syrian ready to perish was my father, v. 5. Jacob is here called an Aramite, or Syrian, because he lived twenty years in Padan-Aram his wives were of that country, and his children were all born there, except Benjamin and perhaps the confessor means not Jacob himself, but that son of Jacob who was the father of his tribe."

The commentary of Matthew Henry for Deuteronomy 26 mentions that types of produce were separated by placing leaves between layers of first-fruits. "fruits, wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates, some of each sort must be put in the same basket, with leaves between them,"

2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there. I don't see leaves in this verse?

V. 10 Father, thank You for all Your blessings, provision a c sustenance. May I never forget the rich bounty You bestow.

Verse 2~The Israelites were to give the first fruits to Jehovah God. This would help them to remember to put God first and give him their best.

(16-19); "..Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways..and the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people.." Avouch - attest, authenticate, certify, testify (to), vouch (for), witness. It has become a strong custom to turn the things from old time into symbolic meanings to relate to ourselves today; but the Israelites were going on factual events.

Israel does not belong to Syria. The Jewish PEOPLE are Syrians. They may have come from a Hebrew Abraham,and Abraham's wife was not from Syria,she was a Chaldean from Babylon, but Issac's wife Rebecca was Syrian. That makes Jacob half Syrian,and all of Jacob's boys came from four Syrian women.-Gen.29-31. Rachael was Syrian. God gave the land to Abraham a Chaldean not Syria.

It is written, "And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A SYRIAN ready to perish was my FATHER, and he went down into EGYPT, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a NATION, great, mighty, and populous" ( Deuteronomy 26:5). On the other hand it is also written, "And God said unto him, Thy name is JACOB: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but ISRAEL shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a NATION and a company of NATIONS shall be of thee, and KINGS shall come out of thy loins" ( Genesis 35:10-11). Those are the writings about SYRIAN becoming a NATION and ISRAEL becoming NATION AND A COMPANY OF NATIONS where KINGS came out.

So Israel really belongs to Syria??? I thought that Abraham came from Babylon and, while being promised a ''land", had not inherited it yet, was a 'wandering Babylonian'. Also on 'Wesley's Notes - I have heard of Chaldea and Mesopotamia. - I have never heard that they were a 'part' of Syria. Rather it was the other way around. Syria was a part of them.

When Israel took the first and put it in a basket on leaves what is the significance of the leaves?
