Discuss 1 Samuel 26

Concerning Saul's "obsession" with killing David.

It began with envy after David slew Goliath; "Saul hath slain his thousands, David hath slain his ten thousands."

Later, God gave Saul an evil spirit. I Samuel 16:14-23

This is a repeat of the previous chapter. Didn't Saul see his wrong at the cave where David hid? David said the same things in that chapter as to this one. How did Saul go back to wanting to kill him? I got a headache from this confusion.

The Ahimelek of 1 Samuel 26:6, the Hittite, was very likely one of David's warriors; a foreigner, one of many, who attached themselves to David, & particularly after David was made king. Others were Uriah the Hittite ( 2 Samuel 11); Ittai the Gittite ( 2 Samuel 15:19); plus the Cherethites & Pelethites; & those mentioned in 1 Chronicles 27:27-31. These recognized David's authority of kingship & were pleased to be subservient to him & come under the true God.

And the Ahimelek of 1 Samuel chapter 21, was a priest, whom King Saul accused of being in collaboration with his enemy David, and thus had him killed by Doeg. Ahimelek is the same one (called Abimelech in 1 Chronicles 18:16) & thought to be a scribal error.

Do we know anything about this Ahimelek other than a different Ahimelek that Doek killed?

Personal Understanding will get you oh so far. But the Spirit. Can get you unlimited knowledge, by God's will. Saying that Jesus speaks in metaphors. Is clear when Jesus says in 1 Samuel 26:12 . is that not a metaphor. When it says "deep sleep".

This helps a lot.

I enjoyed how Saul acknowledges David

Verses 9-11~David had deep respect for Jehovah God and this helped him to have respect for Saul even though he treated him bad.

"My soul, wait thou only upon God for my expectation is from him." Psalms 62:5 "And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?" 1 Samuel 26:1 By God's grace we are kept from sinning, and our feet walking straight and even through this world, according to our integrity that is in us. So what then must be said about all those who have no qualms with sinning and following the crowds to evil and of ourselves as well when we went astray? The days are turning into a fiery oven to try our souls, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Now comes the time when we will be put to the test concerning our love and faithfulness toward the Lord Jesus, and our reflecting His love and grace toward those who betray us and do us wrong. "Watch, Stay Awake! and Pray that you may be able to escape these things that are coming on the earth, and to stand before the Son of man."

Well, in vs.9 this ch.,David did not harm Saul because he was the annointed one,Saul did have an obsession,but I think father was still using him till the time comes he will pay for his sins,father has the master plans,all the blue prints and lay outs :),there is no coincidence about what is going on,hence the sin he commits when he speaks to Samuel in the afterlife,through a seance type deal

What a great obsession Saul had to kill David. As many time he tried, as many times he failed. You cannot harm God's anointed.

Its always good to leave God to deal with your enemies. Do not struggle with the annointed of the Lord.
