However, we don't lie or deceive one another for the sake of peace. The truth hurts sometimes but it promotes spiritual growth providing that the Christ spirit is in the person.
BELEIVERS SHUNNING OTHER BELEIVERS.
To shun is to deliberately avoid something or someone. In the Bible, the word shun is applied to evil. Job 1:8, Job 28:28, Proverbs 3:7-8Proverbs 14:16. So, shunning evil is good.
There is scripture that promotes excommunication. Matthew 18:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 3:14. but do we do it for harm or Good? What's the intent?
In any case, it would seem that extreme forms of shunning, such as considering someone "dead," utterly ignoring him, or refusing to acknowledge his existence, go beyond what Scripture commands.
After all, Jesus said that, when someone is put out of the church, he should be treated as "a pagan or a tax collector" Matthew 18:17. In other words, treat an intractable offender as an unsaved person.
How are we to treat the unsaved? With love and grace.
The "pagans and tax collectors" need to be evangelized. We are to love even our enemies ( Matthew 5:44).
The goal of excommunication and any form of shunning is restoration ( Galatians 6:1).
The purpose of any type of discipline is to prompt repentance and, ultimately, to reunite our fallen brother or sister with the church body. Being officially ostracized from the church, the sinner might be brought to repentance.
When the man in the Corinthian church later realized that he had sinned against God, he repented and came back to the church for forgiveness and reinstatement. Fellowship with the Corinthian believers was restored ( 2 Corinthians 2:6-11).
Isn't it hateful to ignore or shun other believers?
To avoid them, you have to know who they are. You can't avoid somebody if you don't know who they are. This idea of identifying and avoiding shows up in
1 Corinthians 5:11;
2 Thessalonians 3:6,
2 Thessalonians 3:14;
2 Timothy 3:5;
2 John 1:10.
In other words, Christians, and shepherds in particular, should be discerning and alert to behavior and teaching that dishonors Christ and destroys people - and not treat it in a casual or harmless way.
And then in 1 Timothy 5:19-20, Paul went beyond just "avoid them" to "rebuke them publicly." So, speaking of elders who persist in error, he said, "Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. As for those who persist in sin" - and that can be sin of false doctrine or sin of evil behavior, anyone who does not accept correction - "rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.."
And then Paul went on and actually named destructive false teachers:
"Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me" 2 Timothy 4:10.
You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes" 2 Timothy 1:15.
"By rejecting this [faith and a good conscience], some have made shipwreck of their faith, among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander" 1 Timothy 1:19-20.
"Their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus" ( 2 Timothy 2:17).
Paul names at least six false teachers that the church should watch out for.
So, I infer from Jesus and Paul and Luke and John that false teaching and destructive behavior are present dangers in this fallen world for the church. And all of us - especially shepherds, pastors - should be alert and discerning to identify and, in appropriate ways, expose. In order to protect the flock, we should expose them and minimize the spread of the gangrene (as Paul calls it).

Proverbs 16:9 shows that man makes plans but the Lord orders his steps. Our best attempts at determining what is right even as Christians can't possibly take into account the bad things that happen and just how the Lord will use those things for our good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes ( Romans 8:28). Time and again the Lord has shown in scripture as well as today that martyrs ultimately serve a greater purpose; it such as Jim Elliot martyred with his friends in the jungle and the efforts of his wife and others afterwards with the resulting fruit of their efforts in converts.
Dying to self may or may not demand a complete change in trajectory as to our vocation or living situation. God makes it clear that those married to unbelievers are not to depart unless forced by the other person. We are also to work heartily unto the Lord ( Col. 3:23-24) and in fact; if we don't work we don't eat ( 2 Thessalonians 3:10). Luke 10:7 shows how the workman is worthy of his hire at least in terms of ministry but Paul supplemented support through tentmaking as to not be a burden to others. Obviously; as with the woman caught in adultery ( John 8:1-11) there had to be an end to sin therefore a radical change in lifestyle and by default cutting off many social ties. Whether we can be a witness or former associates post conversion are a detriment is based on several factors in individual situations. Clearly any criminal sources of income have to be ended; and we should make restitution whenever possible for those we have offended (see Ephesians 4:28; implied in doing good with what is earned).
As to our affections being set on things above ( Colossians 3:3-10) it is an ongoing process. As an onion each layer of self is peeled away.
Promises for believers "practical" considerations.
And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: ( Deuteronomy 28:13).
Some things in our Christian walk may seem like worldly wisdom; but when we live in a society that is decaying much like the Roman Empire did we see how God contrasts the rewards of those with a work ethic compared to those who don't. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 states that if we don't work we don't eat; and amazingly enough Lenin who started Communist rule in Russia had the same ethic along with some early labor leaders in this country. The verse I have quoted could certainly apply to those who do NOT subject themselves to "usury" which God's people were told not to do or do to each other (see Nehemiah 5:7-10; Leviticus 25:36). That process; of course leads to bondage for extended payment well beyond that borrowed; and has many people in slavery in the world today.
When push comes to shove; when we ask God to provide income He will provide what is necessary in His timing if we are physically and mentally up to the work. To save money should of course be for our families and future inheritance as well as to meet our own needs; but also the principle of saving a little at a time is beneficial if we need to help those in our midst; particularly in the Body of Christ.
There are many other admonitions in scripture for husbands; wives and children to follow; as well as single people and widows.
If we call ourselves "Christian" and are lacking in any of these disciplines and we find God blessing someone who is not a believer because they are following some of these principles we should not be surprised. God is impartial and blesses those He wishes to bless; curses those likewise according to His will. (see Luke 16:9-13 as to how to use "unrighteous mammon"
GOD be praised and magnified as we go about HIS work and to do so diligently. We wait for HIS coming; but we work and declare the salvation of the LORD, and pray for strength to "...not be weary in well doing."
May I faithfully execute the will of my LORD and SAVIOR to go and make disciples. Praying also for the leadership of our country and for the lost and harden hearts to be saved and to have the mind of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
GOD to shine HIS face on all who are on this forum; and to bless us gloriously. May our testimony in CHRIST show the peace of the LORD and cause others to thirst for the same.
GOD bless all the Saints to love HIS word and to trust and obey HIM.
Jesus Himself teaches this in Matthew 24:13 when He says, "But the one who has endured unto the end, this one will be saved." Endurance is a major characteristic being developed in each believer through the maturation process. It is only through endurance that the gospel is preached, and it is only through the development of endurance that a believer is able to hold steady through the tribulations and hardships of life to reach the end when all believers will reign with Christ. Paul, in encouraging the Thessalonians concerning the patient waiting for the coming of Christ, writes in 2 Thessalonians 3:5, "Now may the Lord guide your hearts into the love of God, and into the endurance of Christ." Enduring circumstances is a fundamental characteristic of the person who is saved.
Chapter 21 of Luke presents the hardships that will come upon those who belong to Christ in the last days. In our study text, Luke 21:19, Jesus commands His followers to gain their souls through the endurance of these hardships. This statement is parallel to one found in Matthew 24:13, "But the one having endured unto the end shall be saved." Both of these gospel writers present the teaching of Jesus as saying that the one who belongs to Christ will endure unto the end. Patient endurance, according to Jesus, is a characteristic of the one who is saved; it is not the work ethic of the believer.
Does Eschatology matter? Many people who believe in the pre-tribulation rapture think its not a Salvation issue. But is that true? You be the judge! In ( 2 Thessalonians 3:4) We are told that the antichrist exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Then in ( 2 Cor 11:13-15) v14 Tells us "And no marvel; for Satan himself is (transformed) into an angel of light. The word (transformed) is #3345; it means to transfigure or disguise. So Satan will be disguised as an angel of light, or as Jesus Christ. (Do you think those who expect Jesus Christ to rapture them (before) the tribulation will be deceived by this disguise? I would say there's a really good chance according to Scripture that they will be deceived) ( 2 Thessalonians 2:3) Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a (falling) away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition. (This verse tells us to not be deceived by any means, for that day shall not come, (What day?) V1 Tells us what day? "the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him". That day shall not come, except there come a (falling) away first. The word (falling) is #646; it means defection from truth, ["apostasy"] forsake, divorce, (writing of) divorcement. The (apostasy) is a writing of divorcement, so it would have to be speaking of True Believers in Jesus Christ who will fall away and receive a writing of divorcement before that day, which is "the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him. That divorcement would be for worshipping another god! I've been told by someone on this site that Eschatology doesn't matter. According to Scripture it would seem that it is very, very important. I pray this post gets shown for all to see this truth. So that all who see this can be the judge of whether it matters? TRUTH MATTERS! Blessings.
There is something to be said for wisdom that comes from above in guiding our decisions; if anything simply trusting the Word of God on certain things like guidance on money ( Proverbs 10:2 on "ill gotten gains"; Proverbs 20:21 warns of a quickly received inheritance that is spent rapidly and or unwisely reminding us of the story of the son who squandered his inheritance in Luke 15.)
Similar things can be said for other basic issues in life such as behaviors that enhance or disrupt marriages and other family relations; as well as the general counsel not to trust in themselves. Proverbs 3:5-6 warns us about not leaning on our own understanding.
The difficulty comes in the seemingly mundane actions that the saved and unsaved perform every day. At least we USED to assume a standard indicative of verses like 2 Thessalonians 3:10 which interestingly enough was apparently repeated by Lenin (an avid atheist) but for some odd reason is missing from the far left today. Go figure. When we look at work; assuming that we are not a total criminal for a living (not to be the case as much today in society); we can certainly see how those who are highly skilled; making a "name for themselves" in the world as well as very rich can be much more likely to be caught up in their own accomplishments and status. What would be considered a disaster for them (i.e. having to do manual labor because of mental decline or their company folding) would be to many a cause of rejoicing who are struggling to survive. Such perspective of individuals inevitably squews (however you spell it) our viewpoint. Our natural affections are self centered as well as many of our personal dislikes. The Spirit must be renewing the inner man daily and those who are saved have access to this sanctification. There is ALWAYS contention between the Spirit and the flesh; it may lie dormant but sin is always present as long as we are in these mortal bodies ( Romans 7:24).
We see; as in my study in Psalms that David realized that there needed to be a continuing relationship with the Lord. We must understand as Peter learned the hard way that our own fortitude is not to be trusted. He somehow; along with the other disciples put Christ's frequent warnings about the upcoming crucifixion; as well as the prophecy about his own denial of Christ which was to occur the night of the trial before Pilate 3 times in the back of his mind. He knew better; or so he thought as he was always backed up (such as when he began to sink walking on the water). Christ had avoided assassination attempts 9 or 10 times already for the 3 1/2 years he had been with him along with the others. Things were to change real quick. The hour of darkness had come; and Peter had to be broken to later be restored (2nd part of the prophecy). Once the Resurrection occurred; then Christ could hallenge Peter 3 times if he truly loved Him; as he was to be taken where he didn't want to go (in other words a Word about his death). Paul also had a word of knowledge about his trip to Jerusalem where he eventually; perhaps much later than he first thought was led to his own martyrdom. He took it with faith knowing heaven was a much better place (Phillipians 1:21).
Wisdom also can be seen in something like finances. ( Luke 16:10). The trust of God in us relates to where our heart is now.
Money itself is neither good or bad (and today truly is worthless; just waiting for the official statement there if you get my drift).
Truly we must as the coin says trust God as He has allowed us to still prosper somewhat as compared to much of the world. As long as there is some financial system or commodity of value; a long term gain is always best in low risk and slow accumulation of resources rather than high risk deals. Of course we need to have enough wisdom to keep a work ethic to provide for ourselves ( 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10).
1 Corinthians 1:17. Here's a verse where the emphasis is often placed on whether Paul baptized or not, when thw focus should be on the division amongst believers. Here's the key text. 1 Corinthians 1:11-13..
....IS CHRIST DIVIDED? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
NO! Christ is not divided.
Notice vs 17.
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, LEST THE CROSS OF CHRIST SHOULD BE MADE OF NONE EFFECT.
There's power in preaching the cross UNITES BELIEVERS and it is not in man's intellect. It's not in joining another's belief system! It's the baptism of the Holyspirit that puts you into the body of Christ where you become children of God. And the Spirit causes you to love your brother. But it divides unbelievers and believers. Vs18. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31.
Also 1 Corinthians 2:1-5.
I'm at odds with heresies and I respond to those who undermine the truth. But I don't hate them.
Here's verses I try to keep in mind when it seems to be tares, apostates or contentious brothern present.
2 Thessalonians 3:14-15.
2 John 1:10-11.
Galatians 1:8-10.
Titus 3:9-11.
The thing is it's discernment not partiality. You don't know them by their works, You know them by their fruit. And it certainly seems that certain doctrine is sown to the flesh and produces corruption and is at odds with the truth.
Therefore they're are fruitless.
We also sometimes walk in the flesh "trying to put on politeness" and say something polite by telling these tares they have something to offer, But scripture says otherwise.
You can politely rebuke them with scripture. But any carnal establishment or person will say you're contentious.
Brenda remember Mary and Martha....Martha was troubled with much working and serving but Mary only wanted to sit at feet and hear his words....And Martha asked the lord to speak to my sister Mary to come and help me...I SERVE ALONE.
......But Jesus answered Martha saying you are troubled with many things but MARY HAS CHOSEN THAT GOOD PART THAT SHALL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER....The good part is to sit at his feet and hear his Words of the Kingdom.... Luke 10 :40
.....Jesus said to labor not for the meat that parishes but for that BREAD that endured unto everlasting life that the SON of man shall give unto you.
......Remember God furnished a table in the Wilderness....Take no though for your life what ye shall eat or drink .. Your father knows what you have need of b/f you even ask him...If he feeds the birds he will feed you....Trush in him for your everything.
It seems that there were those in Thessalonica who were refusing to work, assuming that since "Jesus would return at any minute", they didn't need to. Paul dispels the nonsense as laziness and reminds them of their previous policy when he was present. No work, no food.
God created man on the sixth day with two basic purposes by which he would fulfill his primary purpose to glorify God as a bearer of the Divine Image: working and multiplying. Perhaps multiplying could be left off in the New Testament Age based on Paul's teaching concerning singleness ( 1 Cor 7:7), and based on the fact that there seems to be no reproduction in eternity ( Mt 22:30). But working will be a part of our eternal existence. It is what we were made for, not only in this life but also in the next.
Each man and woman has been given a deposit of talent, energy, and resources. God will return and demand an account for our usage. Furthermore, he has promised that throughout our lives we are to live by the principle of stewardship and faithfulness, and we will be added increase as we prove capable. To refuse to work is an affront to the Creator and should not be rewarded or tolerated in the church.
The Gospel, unlike the Old Covenant, is not about rules, per se. It is about the grace of God that transforms a heart into a lover of God and his Kingdom and righteousness. But the apostles did sometimes give "rules" when necessary, and only those which accorded with grace and the Gospel. In this case, the problem of laziness was so prevalent, it had to be addressed as a rule.
There are certainly instances when a Christian is unable to work, whether because of a depressed economy, or a disability. But it is often the case that what is called inability is really an excuse for unwillingness. At nearly all costs, a human, an image-bearer of God, should make themselves useful and add value to their society.
Brenda, I think this Scripture indeed means that if one is able bodied and can work to earn what is needed to supply of one's own needs, then that person should be expected to work. And if a person will not work, then he/she should not be given sustenance because he/she is able to earn their own living but refuses to do so, thus resorting to handouts, which is stealing from the labors of others, in my opinion.
2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. Luke 16:20
As we know some are born blind, crippled, deaf, some never talk. This don't say its ok to draw a check and complain about conditions. Most anyone can find a way to do good and let our light shine.
A young man (lived homeless on the streets) who's dad was worth millions, got in contact with his son (a few yrs before he died) offered him his half if he would come home and do right - the young man refused.

Mat 22:39 I here so many question and concerns of are we to love our neighbor/enemies: As always search scripture. one who fallows CHRIST and tries to be a good neighbor you love as you love all Christian brothers who fallow the doctrine of CHRIST. The 1st and greatest commandment is to love GOD with all your heart and soul and if you do you would be a good neighbor. Is upon the head of any head of house to protect you family with your life if need be. Would you let a neighbor walk in your home and abuse 1 of your family? I hope you said no.
Paul wrote: Rom 12:18 Many look over "If it is possible" sometimes it just is not possible to get along and you don't ever let someone run over you. If you have a neighbor that does not love GOD and commits egregious acts against you; he cannot be of GOD but of Satan, 2 John 1:7. Do you love Satan? I hope you said no. Anyone that does not fallow the doctrine of CHRIST we are to not so much as wish them a good day 2 John 1:10. We love our enemies only after they have turned from their sins against you and accept doctrine of CHRIST, 2 John 1:9, not until. CHRIST tells us Math. 10:14 if they do not accept doctrine to turn from them, wiping even their dirt off. If they sin against you and repent and ask for forgiveness then you forgive but if they don't then have nothing to do with them until they do.
Leviticus 19:15-:18 GOD tells us what being a good neighbor is. If he is self-professed Christian (brother) and he breaks these rules then scripture tells us to set him aside until he repents and ask for forgiveness. If he doesn't then vengeance is the Lords. You will be blessed while he has to watch; perhaps he eventually comes to senses an wants the good life you have. But if you are unlucky to get an evil neighbor you best be on guard, Christians are not 2nd class citizens where we allow to be stepped on.
Diane by no means do you put up with abuse of any kind. You are a child of GOD, a Christian; not a 2nd class citizen and Christians should never let anyone walk on them. In Mathew 18:15-:20 you admonish them showing them the error of their way and if they don't ask for forgiveness and repent than rebuke them and set them aside ( Romans 16:17). That means don't hang out with them, putting yourself through any chance for abuse, don't hate them but be pleasant like it doesn't bother you, live your life as a Christian who will be blessed. When they see how good your life is, then they will want it too. These people you are talking about do not sound like Christians to me, if they were they would not abuse. Therefore you do not put up with them but put them aside until/if they have a change of heart. Yes love your enemies if they have turned from their ways and accepted CHRIST. Talk to them and tell them how you feel if that does no good then live in peace and harmony knowing their sin is not on you. 2 Thessalonians 3:6-:14 Luke 17:3,4. Someone has to ask for forgiveness to receive it. When that happens they must repent and have a complete change of heart, making a commitment to never do it again. You are under no obligation to forgive one that does not come to you and ask. But for your own health, in your own heart it is better that you do and move on, because it will turn to hate and bitterness where the devil will sneak in.
Thank you Dgjot, I share similar sentiments to you. Yet, I'm comforted knowing that whatever evil there may be around me or of the plans & devices of wicked men against me, the Lord truly is in full knowledge & control over the situation. We should not be unduly weighed down in mind & spirit of 'what could happen'. Rather, our hearts must be raised above what we see or don't see on Earth and raised to see the Lord of Heaven who promises us His Care: 2 Thessalonians 3:2,3; Psalm 18:2-6; Psalm 32:5-7;
Psalm 125:1; Proverbs 18:10, are a few verses that should encourage all of us.
We can indeed be bold, going forth in the Name of the Lord. Until we go out in faith, facing the enemy & his followers head on with the Love & Grace of the Lord, we will never fully know or experience the Lord's Arm of Salvation. This is not the time to live in fear, but to wisely use the time the Lord gives us to stand bodly for Him & exude His Righteousness amongst a people who have no knowledge or desire for it. There may be evil intent from some, but "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day", even as the Lord opened up the way (the Red Sea) for His children to pass over ( Exodus 14:13,14). The Lord has all of Heaven's resources ready to come to our aid - only faith can take hold of them & release them, that we might all stand in awe of the Lord of Glory.
And yes, we need to exercise great care when seeing God's Work before us. Many saw it in that day but accused Jesus of working by the power of Satan. There's no hope for those who continually refuse God or acknowledge His Mercy shown to them & others. We should not be hasty in condemning a work we may know very little about - maybe doing so to our hurt.
Hello Jernej. In 1 Timothy 6:10 we read, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Earning money or having money with us is not wrong, but when our lives are so focussed & engrossed in making more money, desiring to satisfy our lusts by it, & not using it for worthy means, then it shows that we have an imbalanced regard of money. When we spend our time & energies in acquiring more of it, it's very likely that both money & our plans will direct us into greater evil; as Paul said to Timothy, some have coveted (or, lusted) after it so much that they have even turned away from the faith - because money (or, anything that consumes our passions more than serving the Lord), will certainly present very real dangers to our love & faithfulness to Christ.
If some have that burden from the Lord to go out & continually preach the Gospel (as the apostles did), then yes, they will have to trust their well-being to the Lord Who called them, & the Lord will not disappoint. But for many, they don't receive that calling, but are to be lights, mouths, & hands for the Master where they're at, also having a family & home to maintain - and for that one has to work as Paul commanded ( 2 Thessalonians 3:10). "Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called." 1 Corinthians 7:20; though spoken in respect to relationships, the Truth can be applied to anything that God has appointed for us to do & have in life, even the love & care for our families & also to those in need that He brings in our life's path.
Christians must forsake wealth. Yes and no. What Luke 14:33 says in simple wordords is that we must put away anything that becomes obstacle in our way to Heaven. That maybe wealth, a person, my own plans for life, my desires etc. IF THEY ARE OBSTACLES, IF NEEDED.
Christians cannot work for money Not right. See Thessalonians 3:11-12, Acts 20:33-35, 2 Thessalonians 3:10 etc.
Christians do Not pay taxes. Not right. See Romans 13:6-7
Christians travel and trust in God for daily food. Not right. Where do you get that travel? Birds fly all the time because this is how they find food, they just not sit on a branch expecting for food to drop from heaven. the same with people, they must go and find a job and work (and God will help them), they should not sit on their bench expecting God rains money from above. Yes trust that God that will not let us down to meet our material needs.
Christians live together 24/7. Ye and no. That was the case in the Jewish christian church, BUT it was not in the gentile churches in Thessalonika, Berea, Corinth, Ephesus...
Christians give to the needy in secret. Thats right
Women can be leaders in the church . Not quite. The Ancient church did not allow women to teach or preach. See 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34-35. And if somebody argues that Paul was oldfashioned like the whole world at that time, well as far as i am concerned i wouldn't dare disagree to apostle Paul.
If you are a Christian you own nothing in this world. Not right. So far in the history of Christianity there have been the medieval gospels of poverty and nowadays gospels of prosperity. They are both wrong. The Christian is a normal balanced person. We live just like aill the other people but without sin and not forgetting that our citizeshipis is in Heaven.
Christians are nonviolent Thats right
Christians forgive as much as they can. Thats right. Even our enemies with the power and grace of God
"Christians must forsake all wealth"; this is a true statement on a heart-level. We must all hold all that we have very loosely; all we have is from the Lord, and when He asks us to lay it down - we must obey. However, we always must look at the totality of Scripture.
Joseph of Arimathea was wealthy, and with it, he provided a temporary tomb for our Savior.
A woman named "Lydia', ( Acts 16), was a 'seller of purple", and obviously a woman successful at her trade, who ministered to the needs of God's saints with her substance.
There was another woman, named Dorcas ( Acts 9), who used her worldly goods to make provision for the widows.
Acts 2 speaks to us of Cornelius, who was pious and God-fearing, who, out of his wealth, gave alms to the people.
It's not a question if we have wealth; the question is: Does wealth have us? Do we look at our blessings as only 'on loan' to us from God, with hearts that are ready to let Him direct how we use it for His glory?
The above examples did, in their hearts, 'forsake all', for when opportunity to give it away came - they all did so. It's never 'things' that are the problem; it's the place that we give them in our hearts.
Your comment that, "Christians cannot work for money" is also not correct; Paul the apostle himself would differ with you. I refer you to 2 Thessalonians 3:8-12. Paul himself labored in his trade to provide for himself and those who ministered with him! You'll also see that Paul says if a person does not work - he shouldn't get to eat!!
Furthermore, in 1 Timothy 5:8, Paul warned that if any provide not for his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel!
Praise the Lord that God has designed the Bible to be a good commentary on itself, if we but compare Scripture with Scripture.
Hi Mary Beth, I've seen people discussing addiction on here before. This is common struggle many people have, but I think many people are embarassed, or maybe prideful to share that, so that's one possible explanation for not seeing it more. You can do an advanced search for the discussion pages and maybe find some.
Some post for different reasons and aren't necessarily looking for help. Some look only for validation and have no intention on breaking addiction or strongholds. Maybe fewer people want solutions. These verses seem relevent: Galatians 6:1, 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15, Ephesians 5:11. When compassion turns into condoning or supporting someone harming themself I think its wrong to condone self harm and evil. Our bodies are on loan from God and God's holy temple and we are to treat it with respect and dignity. And if I try the Galations 6:1 approach to gently restore someone, but they have no interest in letting go the stronghold, then I think Ephesians 5:11 applies. If we entangle ourselves with evil we can only cause further harm to ourselves and others around us. We can still lovingly pray for someone, but not put ourselves in a situation where we are supporting someone's self-harm and violation of God's commandments. Not sure what info you're looking for exactly or what specific addiction you have in mind, but that's just an opinion. God bless...
Part 3.
How should Christian treat one another?
We are to be at peace with one another, forgive one another, have mercy on one another.
Just a few references.
1 Thessalonians 4:9
Ephesians 4:32
Galatians 5:26
Galatians 6:2
Matthew 7:12
1 John 4:7
However, we don't lie or deceive one another for the sake of peace. The truth hurts sometimes but it promotes spiritual growth providing that the Christ spirit is in the person.
BELEIVERS SHUNNING OTHER BELEIVERS.
To shun is to deliberately avoid something or someone. In the Bible, the word shun is applied to evil. Job 1:8, Job 28:28, Proverbs 3:7-8 Proverbs 14:16.
See part 4.
To avoid them, you have to know who they are. You can't avoid somebody if you don't know who they are. This idea of identifying and avoiding shows up in
1 Corinthians 5:11;
2 Thessalonians 3:6,
2 Thessalonians 3:14;
2 Timothy 3:5;
AVOID, REBUKE, AND CALL OUT.
God bless

Blessings to you in Christ!
Of course we need to have enough wisdom to keep a work ethic to provide for ourselves ( 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10).
....IS CHRIST DIVIDED? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
Read on through
1 Corinthians 1:18-31.
1 Peter 3:14-17.
God bless.

If a man is to lazy to get out and work and take care of his family, he should not eat the food he didn't earn.??

God bless u
Amen
God bless!
