The history of the Bible is, to me, like Eze. ch. 37; searching out the history makes it come alive for me.
  • Irene123 on Acts 17 - 7 years ago
Dionysius the Areopagite was a judge of the Areopagus (Mars Hill) from where Paul preached, vs. 22-34. I looked up 'Dionysius', 'Areopagite', 'Areopagus' to find all this out. I love the history of the Bible. To know the history, for me, draws the characters so much closer. They're not just 'dry dust' from the past.
  • Irene123 on 1 John 4 - 7 years ago
    V. 1 - " ..... but 'try' the spirits whether they are of God .... "; It took me years to understand the meaning of this. How does one 'try' someone's spirit? By the word of God, check what they've told you about scripture to see if it's in the Bible - Jn. 5:39; Acts 17:11. We are to do this with pastors also. A TRUE pastor will encourage you to check what he tells you.
  • Irene123 on Acts 17 - 7 years ago
God bless Ar (from comments pg. 1 on 12/21/14) if he's still with us ...........; what a beautiful testimony.
  • Irene123 on Matthew 27 - 7 years ago
To Bruce, one month ago; I didn't say 'centurions' ..........; I'm not upset by your 'correction', I just know what I said. And come to that - 'centurions, priests, and Pharisees - have NOTHING to do with - salvation. So a mistaken word in such a place isn't hurting anybody. And - they can simply read it for themselves - which they ought to do anyway - Acts 17:11.
  • Irene123 on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
To Brianna - I really liked that - don't believe everything one hears about God and His Word, but search it out - Jn. 5:39; Acts 17:11. Something else interesting here: Jesus wasn't talking about the N.T. scriptures because they weren't written then; He referred to the O.T. Jesus and salvation are all thru the Old; that's what the old was all about.
  • Irene123 on Psalms 126 - 7 years ago
To Marsalis Allen - First of all, God Bless you for your honesty, not to us, but to yourself, and the Lord Jesus knows and He will help put desire in your heart to read his word - if you ask him. And ask Him in His name - Jesus; Jn. 14:13; Ps. 119:11; Acts 17:11; Jn. 5:39. All this is for whenever you feel like looking into His Word: You WILL be blessed of Him for it.

JUST GO FEED THE CHILDREN OF GOD!! Winning souls for Jesus Christ?? Why don't you go save a child, so there is soul left to save?? Mark 9:37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. MARK MY WORDS"!! Now get unfold yer hands, get up off your knees and WALK, straight out that door!!For you are wasting time... As it is written... Acts 17:24 "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things " What are you waiting for?? AN EN'GRAVED' INVITATION!!
  • Irene123 on Genesis 2 - 8 years ago
To Jusdfy on Gen. 2 - Why the apple? That's man's "adding to" od's word. It's not to do with anything important at all concerning salvation, but it 'can' cause a person to believe other 'add ons' (or detractions) from His word. THAT'S why there is Acts 17:11. God didn't say what the 'fruit' was - just for this reason - so we wouldn't worship it. People will worship anything.

    Amen!
  • Richard on Psalms 23 - 8 years ago
The first verse really says all I need. He is my shepherd. His is the bread that sustains my spirit and my mortal flesh. His rod and staff are a resting place that gives the comfort of direction and protection against all that would do harm. It is fulfillment of all promises and a statement of love. In His name and by His Son( Acts 17:31).
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Repentance is to wholeheartedly turn from our own sinful ways, the ways of the world, as the LORD brings our sin to light and we are no longer ignorant of our sin. The ways of the world are broadly sinful as the devil is the god of this world wide system, or web: JESUS commands obedience as God has stopped winking at our disobedience. One must repent to be in CHRIST JESUS and be saved from the wrath to come upon the whole world. Be blessed in Christ Jesus according to His will. Amen. Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Certainly private interpretation is wrong if it goes public without the noble study of the Bereans in Acts 17:11 "Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Certainly our understanding might be wrong, but it can also be understood with God 's knowledge, if we truly believe God will answer our knock. "Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find knock, and it will be opened to you. To Joe above, How does the Catholic Church, Protestant churches, or anyone for that matter, square themselves with 2 Peter 1:20? Answer: Acts 17: 11 above, but they have to be honest with themselves and not their traditional doctrines of men. After all if we understand private interpretation is wrong than why do we have one Bible and one God and have hundreds of conflicting teaching and practices if we are all following God 's Understanding Roams 16:16.

Evangelist Chatauna, you are correct according to Scripture because Acts 17:30,31 says, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at but now commadeth all men every where to repent: v31 Because he has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. We all know that man is Jesus Christ. God bless us all and also in the understanding of his Word. Praise God always through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!

For those who can receive it, I see a much deeper meaning wrt bounds of habitation we now live as a people without borders . The reference is surely about our three spatial dimensions and time, from which we groan to escape, once we know Yeshua Messiah in His fullness. Be blessed!!!
  • Lilian on Acts 17 - 9 years ago
More people couldnt accept God 's word they are simply not fixing their eyes to Jesus. That 's why Jesus using Paul to convey his message to the people to believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. Since people are practicing and believing the Idolatries showing their ignorance, They worship other God that made of woods which cannot speak. Jesus wants us to believe in him only and God is a jealous God and will vanish the works of the defeated enemy who dis obeyed his commandments. You need to invite the Holy Spirit Jesus to come into your life. He will help us to understand his words as his words is our heavenly manna that gives us life. His blood that shed for us is his love and mercy to all of us. Jesus loves you only believe in him
