The Bereans studied the scriptures and searched them out for themselves. They did not just take Peter and Paul 's word for it. Acts 17:11. They studied daily to be sure they were being taught the truth. Oh that we would be more like the Bereans! Read Jeremiah chapter 10 , we 're not supposed to be putting up Christmas trees either. This is a pagan tradition that was done hundreds of years before Christ was ever born and had nothing to do with Christ or his birth. God calls it a custom of the HEATHEN. He calls it VAIN, and God says it is not in this custom to do ANY good. The Word tells us not to do it. That 's good enough for me. Easter is not even in the original translation. It is Passover. the word Easter they believe originates from Eastre or Astarte and Ashteroth which is a false goddess of fertility that dies every winter awakens every spring and is celebrated with rabbits and eggs as signs of her fertility. We are called by God to come out from among the heathen and be separate and holy. Will God bless our disobedience? I think not! If we His people do not humble ourselves, turn from OUR wicked ways and cry out to God, how can we expect him to heal our land?
This gospel being preached in Acts 2 is that of the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the same gospel that John the Baptist preached. Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. The kingdom was still being offered to the Jews because of Jesus ' prayer to THE FATHER, a member of the Godhead Rom 1:20, Col 2:9, Acts 17:29, in Lk 23.34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. In Acts 7 Jesus is standing at the right hand of the FATHER. I don 't see how you don 't see the Godhead in the Scripture. Jesus is standing because He was ready to come back if they would have received his message as a nation. That 's what He said would happen. Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. They rejected the message and God went to the Gentiles through the apostle Paul. The Gospel for today is found in 1 Cor 15:1-4 and no water baptism or tongues are mentioned. Acts 2:38 is cursed for today Gal 1:8-9. Why? It 's not for us today.
As I read this chapter this morning and came to verse 23 and then reading through verse 32 to the end, I realized that my country Greece, today, is the same as the first and only time Paul visited Athens. INDIFFERENT. It brought me great sorrow that God honored this country by spreading the Gospel through Paul in this country , and yet today they have turned from the real Jesus and God to other gods worshipping the Mother of Jesus, Many Old Saints, like Paul, Peter and new ones as well , and other religions . Today, Greece is a Christian country in name only , as many other European countries are, but God didn 't forget us and there is a 0.5 reborn Christians in this country who listen and teach the gospel and the True Word of God and spread it with the help of the Holy Ghost . I pray that soon the light will come again onto this country and people. I pray to my Lord to touch them this Christmas and say AMEN and please join me with an AMEN , for Greece and FOR YOUR OWN COUNTRIES as well. God is always good.
We the Christians today should turn the world upside down for Jesus Christ We have this power and authority already invested in us by the power of God and the work done on Calvary. Not by violence and hostility but by great influence through the power of Intercessory prayers. The Kingdom of God should influence the world. AMEN
act 17 30 What i understand is that in the days of ignorance of man God overlook our errors. But when we come to knowlege of truth, we must repent radically, or face appropraite judgment.

I think these men wanted to be sure that paul was not bringing to them a religion that was out of scripture. for surely in those days just like today a lot of people were into religion rather than seek CHRIST the author and finisher of faith. All they wanted was a truthful and substantail suport of this truth.
As much as this verse tells us that God has overlooked our wrongs before Christ was revealed to us, even unto people where the gospel is yet to reach He is doing the same.Even unto young kids who are not into understanding because of young age the same applies .The onus is unto the saved to spread the gospel .Otherwise the blood of these ignorant people will be on our hands by failing to heed the Great Commission of Christ .
I feel that the Lord is trying to use Paul to let people know that He is right beside us and though it is His desire to see us all saved,He will not force Himself on us.God is the perfect gentleman. He will not make us live for Him,we have to love Him because of who He is . Not Some idol, that can neither save nor teach.God is right here if we want Him.He don 't need us , We need Him.
though he be not far from everyone of us. nigh thee as you read this GOD is right next to you seek his face. seek the kingdom of GOD and his righteousness. sanctify yourself and the GOD of peace will sanctify you holy.
I think the men during time of Acts people did not know the word of the Lord as it were being taught by Paul whom God had sent they were more eager to learn about the word of the Lord then the men of Thessalonica did so they were eager to learn more by asking Paul questions of the part of words meaning wanted to have the proof other what he were teaching I guess some did some research for themselves. That I can not get a clear learning about the Lords word I also get eagle enough to ask or do some research of my own. Good to be eager about the Lords word.
Acts 17 31 agrees with John 5 22. Trinitarians, what bible are u reading? The son, subject to his father, the son, appointed by his father, the son, brought back to life by his father, will do his fathers will. And when the appointed time is over, he the son, will return the crown of his kingdom to his father.1 Corn.15 24 27
I Think that God were saying that all man is of one blood and can live anywhere on the earth I discussed this chapter with a christian lady and she was saying that it meant that man cant live on the moon or mars that is why it says earth that is her way of thinking
Jesus is God. There is more evidence for this than you are sitting there reading this. ( 1 Tim 3:16) "And without controversy great is the mystery of goldiness:GOD was manifest in the flesh," This passage is speaking of Jesus who is GOD in the flesh. ( Phil 2:6) Who being in the form of GOD, thought it not robbery to be EQUAL WITH GOD: See ( John 1:1) In the beginning was the WORD, and the Word was with GOD, and the WORD WAS GOD!!! verse 14 " And the WORD was made FLESH, and dwelt among us, Woooo can't beat that. Jesus is GOD my friend. The name of the Lord is the name of the Godhead(Trinity) ( Acts 17:29, Rom 1:20, Col 2:9). These verses are left out of the new perversions. The Father is called Lord ( Jude 5), the Son is called Lord ( Phil 2:11), and the Holy Ghost is called Lord ( 2 Cor 3:17). The Godhead is one GOD manifested in three persons. You say explain that, I can't, its a MYSTERY ( 1 Tim 3:16)!
2 cor 4:4, col 1:15 informs us that Christ Jesus is the image of God. This suggest that man was made to have his being in christ ( acts 17:28,29). Eph 2:10" for we are his workmanship, created in christ Jesus for good works...). It is only in Jesus Christ that man can discover himself and appreciate the life In God.
Interesting scripture. So, Adam had the ability to procreate all the races. I wonder what Adam an Eve looked like. Out of that one blood, all the nations appeared. That's pretty cool to think about.
Acts 17:24 is a surprising verse for all. It says that God does not dwell in temples made with hands. So the temples(church) where we worship God's presence is not there! Yes, it is true because God dwells in us as our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and it is not made with human hands.
(This is my response to Rob farner's comment dated 8/16/2013 at 11:10am on Acts Chapter 17 about verse 30):.. They shall not be held responsible IF they shall abide to the commandment of God for repentance.
The verse Acts 17:29 remind us not to think that in man made stone, silver, gold, etc.. That on that creation has a Godhead, this is idolatry, even when we bow or serve to the gaven images... We commit sins according to the books of EXODUS 20:4-6...
Actually, the verse does not imply homosexuality. The original text refers to "two persons" in one bed and emphasizes the point that the rapture could occur at any moment, whether we're awake or sleeping, some taken and some not. While I believe a homosexual could become a Christian, I certainly do not believe that this is a justification of that life style. Why would Jesus mention the destruction of Sodom only a few passages before and then justify homosexuality; Luke 17:29 " But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all." There is simply no reference to sexuality in the verse. But don't take my word for it, take the verse in the context of the entire bible and Be like the Christians from Berea in Acts 17:11. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
This comment is fro Actavius; I want to help you with as much as possible according to scripture please read Leviticus 19:28 which discourages this practice. God is the same yesterday and forever, ask the Holy Spirit help you understand His word. I recently commented on this subject, and encouraged all who have made this mistake to not allow the Devil to trip you into thinking just because you made this mistake in your past to keep you from giving your life over to Jesus because you did not know what God's word said about it. This is a forgivable sin, and God winks at our ignorance when we are void of the truth. But you see that's why its important to read your Bible; and ask God to lead you to a Church that teaches the whole truth about God's word. There are some out there. Read ( Psalm 32:8-9) and also read ( Acts 17:24-30) ( Ephesians 4:11-14) and finally ( I Corinthians 6:17-20) and you will find out that your body belongs to God, and if he wanted you to have a tattoo he would have given you a birth mark (Smile) Love You with the Love Christ Jesus!! You shall Know the Truth, and the Truth Shall Make You Free!! Amen!
As Belivers we must live a life of constant repentance. We are no longer ignorant and God calls us to repent. We sin, not knowing it, through our thoughts, deeds, opinions and the way we speak. We therefore have to constantly repent, that is the life of a Believer...you repent in order to be given yet another chance...
Out of all these definitions on Revelation 1:1, you got every word correct. No one sees the truth because they have a problem with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ being our precious God and Creator. There is one verse that sticks out in my mind, who did Paul preach? Jesus. Read Acts 17:23. This is just one of many.
In John 15:5 the bible says He is the vine and we are the branches, in other words what the vine has the branch has in it two meanings I have received the nature of God in me. I have Eternal life which is the Zoe life just as the bible says we have become partakers of Divine nature. 2 Corinthians 3:21-23 says, Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours; whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come; all are yours. And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God´s. We are Joint Heirs with Christ.
@Bethany and Bill,
On verse 29, the 3 distinct persons of the godhead ( Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9) do always act as one in unison, they never act separate from the other persons in the godhead. 3 in 1 person ( I John 5:7-8).
The "WORD" says as the deer must have water to live; so we must have GOD, THE FATHER, to live. Acts 17:28, For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.
I came to read this chapter after finding a mention online how God winked at us in verse 30. I have never read or heard this, but it is awesome. Just to know that at the time we are called by Him and surrender ourselves, He gives us a wink about our past ignorance. Is that not our awesome God whom we serve! So, let's just give Him a wink back and then do as He commands us to repent! If God will give me a wink, I don't think He would mind my giving Him a wink back. I love you Yahweh!
Like Mom said, we are all equal!
On verse 29, the 3 distinct persons of the godhead ( Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9) do always act as one in unison, they never act separate from the other persons in the godhead. 3 in 1 person ( I John 5:7-8).
