Jesus here assured his disciples that they would receive the power of the holy spirit in order for them to continue the preaching work. That same spirit is needed today in order to preach the good news. We should ask God for holy spirit when we pray.

    Yes!
  • Ricardo on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
The Holy Spirit is Jesus. In Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said in the NAME. These 3 TITLES have a NAME. Lets look at the scriptures for the NAME. In John 5:23 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

In this chapter we learn that David prophesied that another would take the office of apostleship after Judas. It is amazing how the apostles used the scriptures (old testament) to direct their steps and thereby fulfill the word that was written by the prophets.

Amen Irene. Acts 2:38. And today the pastor said the same about Acts, that it is the beginning the church.
  • Irene123 on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
To Nisa n Acts - Yes, Acts is an 'extension', but more than that - it is the very beginning of the Church of the Lord JESUS Christ. His last instructions to His disciples were chapt. 1, then Peter preached the very 1st sermon in ch.2. In Acts 2:38 Peter gave, in this sermon, the one and only way we are to be saved. Notice v.37 - "what shall we do"? V. 38 was Peter's answer, from God.

In verse 24 they prayed to God as Jesus had done when it came to choosing a new apostle. We want to pray to God before making any major decisions.
  • Bud on Acts 12 - 8 years ago
I am in disagreement with Richard, it is true that the James killed by Herold was the brother on John the son of Zebedee, but the other James was not the brother of Jesus ( Mark 3: 18) he was son of Alphaeus. Jesus brother James did not become a follower until after Jesus death. ( Acts 1: 14)
  • Irene123 on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
To 'magnocrat' on Acts ch. 1 - We are not to know who the other women in the upper room were. remember - this is GOD'S word, He dictated it. To accept just what it says without frantically searching for 'unknowns' is - FAITH.
  • Sonja on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
there is only 1 God. he is the 1st and the last the beginning and the end. Beside him there is no other. part of getting into heaven is repenting of your sin, being baptized in the NAME of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues. ( this is not just for certain people it is for everyone) Acts 2:38 - Acts 2:39

the book of acts is a tremendous book showing the great power the holy spirit endows us as believers and yielding to God gives us to be witnesses to the great commision Jesus has given us.
  • George V on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
The book of acts reveals Christs expectations of the apostles and in so doing us .
Sadly today I recall the words stated that many , in fact most don't know God . Superficially we know but not as the apostles and Moses did . Seems that prayer and fasting are lacking and as those apostles who came together to seek out gods instruction for them we must do the same .
  • David on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
The Holy Ghost (Spirit) is the third part of the Trinity; Father, Son, Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit will dwell in your heart if you will let Him. He is your Comforter for always. Just like God's Love and forgiveness are offered free so too is your Comforter. In the world today we need all that God is offering as we are drawing closer to The Second Coming of Christ so we must be ready to meet Christ

The Holy Ghost is a spirit that is combined in the Father(God) and his son Jesus which is also spirits And God is not a man he can't not lie. Amen
  • Carmen Redding on Acts 1 - 8 years ago
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was sent to fill those whom God chose to use to carry out his divine plans. In the New Testament Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to dwell in those who believed. In Acts, the He is described as our Father's gift to us. He teaches, convicts, comforts, intercedes and gives us power to become like Jesus.

An answer to Billspiro's question concerning v.28 "For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together." The carcase has to be Jesus Christ because Jesus said we are to eat of His body and drink of His blood. This must be a symbolic figure of the burnt offering that Christ makes for us on the Cross. Rev 1:5 . We are caught up to meet Him the clouds before the Wrath of God is released upon the earth. In other words, this passage is marking the coming of our Lord. "...Immediately After the Tribulation...the sun shall be darkened... v29 ..."And they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds...And HE shall gather HIS Elect..." So the Lord is in the Clouds and we are gathered to meet Him there. See Acts 1:11, we are told the Christ will return in the clouds. The next time Christ is mentioned coming in the clouds is Rev. 1:7, which parallels Matthew 24:30. We will be with HIM there b c we are the ones to accepted HIS Carcase as a sacrifice.
  • Jatinder Kumar Ahooja on Acts 1 - 9 years ago
Did David foresee the Lord always before his face? how come David saw the Lord because the Bible says that no one has ever seen the Lord?
