The Church was indeed "added to" in Acts 2:41-47. There is a reference to a sinning Church member who refuses to repent & change his behaviour: that he be removed from the Church, that he might come to his senses & be restored or else that God destroys him so that his spirit might yet be saved ( 1 Corinthians 5:1-5). And then in Acts 5:1-11 there is the sad account of Ananias & Sapphira, where because of sin, the Lord had dealt severely with them.

COMMENTS BY Alex on Rev 1, Rev 5 and Rev 7 Comments about the book of revelation not having anything to say about water baptism, only the blood of the Lamb. Unto him that has loved us and has washed us from our sins in his own Blood . Rev 5 Thou has redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred. ppl and nation and has made us unto out God kings priests that we shall reign on this earth. No mention of water baptism the only mention of water is FOUNTAINS OF LIVING WATER WHICH IS THE H.G. as john said when Jesus SPEAK OF WATER IT WAS THE SPIRIT FOR THE H.G WAS NOT YET GIVEN B/C THAT CHRIST WAS NOT YET GLORIFIED. Rev 7 Who are these and whence come they, these are they that have come out of great tribulation and have made their robes white in the Blood of the LAMB . Many places in Rev. speak of the lamb of God AND HIS BLOOD but none of water baptism, No wonder John the baptise said he must increase but i must decrease .Jesus said among them born of a woman there are none greater then JOHN but he that is least in the Kingdom is greater then JOHN ,who is greater then John? ITS simply the H.G. OUR NEW BORN INNERMAN THE Child of PROMISE THAT IS LEAST IN THE KINGDOM SIMPLY B/C HE IS BORN IN THE KINGDOM A BABE THAT IS IN US,OUR NEW HEART AND NEW SPIRIT IS THE H.G . The babes and the sucklings are the least in the Kingdom but they are BABY GODS born in US via his seed etc. Jesus said he that is least among you shall be great thats the H.G. the Child of Promise resulting from his good seed the living word sown in our hearts. They are greater then any human including John. They are the children of PROMISE, THE MULTIPLICATION OF CHRIST via his good seed the word the fruit of his good seed resulting from our hearing and understanding the bridegoom's voice. To whom the WORD came it made them Gods via a heavenly birth . When Isaiah saw the Kingdom coming he said unto us a Child is born . Jesus said unless ya receive the Kingdom as a lil CHILD etc. The PROMISE CHILD TH H.G.

the forces of evil, not only attach the ones that promote Christ, from a stand point of sinners attacking Christians, but also Christians attacking Christians. It is seemingly so much more terrible now than when I was a child in the world. We now see Christians that are turning against God, and going back into the world, and for what? there was nothing out there for us before we were saved. We as Christians, need to come together and pray for each other, remember where we came from, remember the agapa love that god has shown us, remember the commandments, and as Jesus bought to our attention the first two are the most important. This is found in another discussion I was reading. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."

    - Matthew 22:35-40

We all need to remember that none of us are without sin, and not made perfect. So we need to pray for one another, and remember that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and should treat each other accordingly with the love that God has granted us. May you be blessed today and throughout your life.

Remember the apostles were not yet filled with the Holy Spirit. They were just ordinary men who had been prepared for the coming of the Spirit of God on Pentecost. Their idea about adding a twelfth apostle was stupid. They were just thinking as normal people think. They did not have the mind of Christ at that time. Shortly before that, Peter had even denied three times that he was a follower of Jesus Christ! Thomas had even said he thought the other apostles were crazy for thinking Jesus had risen from the dead! These were just simple, uneducated common men... but then came the Holy Ghost...

So to answer you question: No, it was wrong.

    Judas betrayal of Jesus foretold

Psalms 41:9 - Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

    Wesley's Notes for Psalms 41:9

Yea - These words were literally fulfilled in David,

and yet the Holy Ghost looked farther in them, even to Christ and Judas Iscariot, in whom they received a fuller accomplishment. Lift up - A phrase implying injury, joined with insolency and contempt; taken from an unruly horse, which kicks at him that owns and feeds him.
  • Chris - In Reply on Acts 2 - 4 years ago
As Jesus chose twelve men to be His disciples, later apostles, the remaining eleven after Judas committed suicide, felt the need to restore their number to the original design. I don't think there was any compulsion for them to do this - it was just something they believed was necessary. Also, they may have remembered the Lord's Plan of sending them out "two by two" ( Mark 6:7), which would have made it awkward if they, after Jesus' ascension, would try & follow that rule. And the two nominations, Barsabas & Matthias had to be witnesses to Jesus' resurrection, & no doubt they were also among those that closely followed the Lord in His ministry & learned of what the Kingdom of Heaven required.

As well, the twelve were appointed by the Lord to minister to the Jews only ( Matthew 10:5,6), & we know that they did not leave aside an opportunity to minister to others (e.g. Acts chapter 10: Cornelius) as the Lord directed them. Whereas, the apostle Paul was specially called & commissioned to be a minister to the Gentiles primarily, but also to many others ( Acts 9:15,16) who would cross his path & before those he would one day have to stand.

There is a Psalm the speaks of Jesus being betrayed by a friend. It was a prophesy that was fulfilled by Judas.

The disciples just filled his vacancy, is all. Paul was chosen by Jesus to minister to the Gentiles.
  • Chris - In Reply on Acts 2 - 4 years ago
I suppose the Holy Spirit can do that, but one should discern whether it is indeed of the Spirit or of the flesh. We can be truly joyous in our spirits as ministered by the Holy Spirit when we are caught up in the wonder & praise of our God & that may be reflected in different ways. For me, it has always been a quiet joy & satisfaction in my heart when being moved by the reading of God's Word or singing His praises (especially the old hymns, such as "The Old Rugged Cross"). Oftentimes, I actually find a tear developing as I recall what Grace has been afforded me to free me from the bondage & penalty of my sin. But to laugh aloud (or, uncontrollably as we sometimes see/hear about) is something that I've never been led to do, nor could I give judgement on those who do it.

    Wesley's Notes for 2 Peter 3:10

3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief - Suddenly, unexpectedly. In which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise - Surprisingly expressed by the very sound of the original word. The elements shall melt with fervent heat - The elements seem to mean, the sun, moon, and stars; not the four, commonly so called; for air and water cannot melt, and the earth is mentioned immediately after. The earth and all the works - Whether of nature or art. That are therein shall be burned up - And has not God already abundantly provided for this? 1. By the stores of subterranean fire which are so frequently bursting out at Aetna, Vesuvius, Hecla, and many other burning mountains. 2. By the ethereal (vulgarly called electrical) fire, diffused through the whole globe; which, if the secret chain that now binds it up were loosed, would immediately dissolve the whole frame of nature. 3. By comets, one of which, if it touch the earth in its course toward the sun, must needs strike it into that abyss of fire; if in its return from the sun, when it is heated, as a great man computes, two thousand times hotter than a red - hot cannonball, it must destroy all vegetables and animals long before their contact, and soon after burn it up.

    People's Bible Notes for 2 Peter 3:10

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come. This expression usually, but not always, refers to the second advent. Such is the meaning here. As a thief in the night. When people are not expecting it. Compare 1Th 5:2 Mt 24:43. In which the heavens shall pass away. See Lu 21:33. The elements shall melt. The material of which they are composed. The earth also and the works that are therein, shall be burnt up. The earth and all man's creations. That the world shall come to an end seems to be written in its very constitution. A slight change in the constitution of the atmosphere, or the decomposition of its water would wrap it in flame.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to find you a Church - In Reply on Galatians 5 - 4 years ago
This is a subject everyone tries to prove this day or that day.

The Bible also says, don't forsake gathering together. It didn't instruct a certain day.

In my evangelical experiences, it is more important to attend a Church that actually opens the Bible and teaches the scriptures.

I do not believe a Church that expounds on marriage counseling, parenting, being an active citizen in projects: not growing their lambs up into full grown sheep; to follow the Shepherd who is Jesus Christ. We have such a short time to help our children know who Christ is: before they have a public school try to beat it out of them. Parents are pastors too. Deuteronomy 11:19. The first churches were in homes.

The Bible is supposed to change lives; put life into the perspective of our Saviors Life and Ministry. Acts 2:42-47

Our lives will default back to simplicity if we turn off the tv and actually talk to each other. Refuse cell phones to teens till they can pay for it themselves and for the monthly service. It's not cruel. It teaches responsibility, good credit rating, budgeting time, balancing time to earn money, do their "jobs" to pay their bills. Life skills 101.

I have a hated sermon called: don't end up on the Dr Phil show. My Dad always told me "I'm doing this for your own good". Forcing me to learn car maintenance 101. I miss him so much. I taught it to my son and he was 21 when he bought his first house. He taught his 7 yr old to fix a leaking toilet last week.

Kids just want some of your time, you know? The rewards far outweigh the laundry waiting 1 day. They're so smart if you pour yourself into them. Kinda like Jesus did with his disciples.

My first solo street ministry ended with me telling a group of drunks they were going to hell. Later I was Dejected! The Lord said: are you done doing it your way? I was hearing him in my spirit! I said, Yes Sir!! My life has been sad. I met Jesus. It's been the best since then.

    God bless you brother Adam

Thank you for you reply. To respond to your comments:

You ask where in the Bible does it say Jesus Christ is the name of the Father. The answer is: (directly) Isaiah 9:6 - He (Christ) shall be called the Father /// (indirectly) Acts 2:38 - Jesus Christ said to baptize in the name of the Father; the apostles baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

You quote 1John5:7. With all due respect, if you look it up, you will find that that verse was not in the Bible originally. The apostle John did not write it. Rather it was an addition by someone else around the year 1500.

You quote John 10:30, John 1:1, John 1:14: The spirit in Jesus is God. So of course Jesus can say that the Father and I are one. When a man says "I know", is it the body that knows? No, it is the spirit in the man that knows. Jesus Christ and God are one Spirit. /// The Word which was with God and became flesh is the Christ (a Spirit). Not the baby born in Bethlehem, but the Spirit inside that body.

You ask if Jesus prayed to Himself: That is absurd. The body called Jesus prayed to His Father whose Spirit was dwelling in Jesus just like it dwells in all sons and daughters of God.

You speak about Christians believing literally what the Bible says: This is NOT true. Think about things like female Christians cutting off their hair. Christians taking the Lord's Supper in the morning. Taking leavened bread instead of unleavened. Using juice instead of wine. Think about Christians not doing footwashing. Think about Christians saying it is okay to be gay. Saying it is okay for a woman to be a preacher. God have mercy upon us all.

Lastly, you ask about my motive: That is probably the hardest of your comments to respond to... To see if someone will be able to accept it.

The Great Commission of Matthew 28:19 is one of the greatest commands in the Bible. Jesus told his disciples to "GO". We are to go therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the HolyGhost. Baptism is essential. If it were not, Jesus would not have given us this command. We Must baptize by immersion, the way they did it in biblical times, in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and HolyGhost. Father, Son, and HolyGhost are not a single name. So what is the name of the Father, and what is the name of the Son, and what is the name of the HolyGhost. Jesus said in St. John 17:6 that He manifested the name of the Father to the world. Colossians clearly tells us that all of Godhead rest in Jesus( Colossians 2:9). Therefore, we are to be baptized in the Name of Jesus. None of the apostles baptized using the titles Father, Son, and HolyGhost. They understood the Great Commission that He gave them. Jesus is the Name of the Father, Son, and the HolyGhost. He is the Father in creation. All things were made by Him(John1:3). He is the Son in redemption; for without the shedding of blood, there would be no remission of sin. God is a Spirit. The invisible God became visible in flesh(John1:14; Isaiah 40:3; 1Timothy3:16; Revelation 1:13; Colossians 2:9, etc) Jesus is the HolyGhost that fell on believers in the upper room ( Acts 2:4). No one in biblical times was baptized any other way--except in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This Great Commission is going all over the world. Jesus is the Messiah, He is the name of Savior of the world. Neither is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given whereby we must be saved( Acts 4:12). Therefore, we must adhere to the words of the Great Commission given by our Savior and go into the world baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the HolyGhost. Teaching them to observe all things, and lo I am with you even unto the end of the world

read about "the Spiritual Man" by Watchman Nee: its weighty, but thoroughly explains the inner workings of the flesh, our souls and the spirit (which is made alive) upon being born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit.

The Godhead is made up of 3 distinct persons. We are born of flesh and soul. When we receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, our spirits are made alive to God.

The Holy Spirit tells us about Jesus. JN chapters 16-17

That's why it's paramount to build up our inner most selves on reading the Bible. Why not begin reading in the New Testament?

I did a study just in the Gospels about the dynamics between Jesus, the Father, the Holy Spirit; the Apostles; and you can see how the Body of Christ is to operate as a unit...one Body. It keeps you focused.

The Old Testament can be accessed to see the prophesies that have been fulfilled, or the few that are being fulfilled now.

We are to be involved in EQUIPPING the Saints of God for the Lord to have available; disciples to work in this End Time Harvest.

We are to be His Body that sees, hears, teaches and preaches what we have learned; TO THOSE THAT ARE PERISHING !

    1 Corinthians Chapter 3

1 And I, brethren, could NOT speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

2 I have fed you with MILK and not with MEAT: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it; NEITHER NOW are ye able.

3 For ye are yet CARNAL: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

    John 4:34

JESUS saith unto them, My MEAT is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

I'm seeing comments about the rapture for Acts 2:41 but I don't see anything about the church being taken up there. Rather I see about the Jewish believers in Jerusalem selling all they had and putting it all together for them to share with all as they have need. More than likely they, too, believed that Christ was returning very very soon, which he did not. Later we see Paul taking up collections from the jews that were scattered around Europe, to send to the poor believers in Jerusalem. In other words the original selling of their goods had been used up. Not sure how one would get the rapture from this. Just asking.

There is only way to heaven you must obey Acts 2:38! Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism. We must be baptized in Jesus name not sprinkled water on. We must be baptized in Jesus name. The name of the father is Jesus, the name of the son is Jesus the name of the Holyghost is Jesus and the Bible says these three are one. In Revelation John saw one one the throne.

When you prayed the prayer of faith, to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior: you were sealed with the Holy Spirit THEN.

    1 Corinthians 3:16

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

    1 Corinthians 6:19

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

    Ephesians 4:30

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

    Ephesians 1:13

(Jesus) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

    1 Corinthians 12:3

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 1:5 - For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Read all of 1 Corinthians 12, to understand the gift of speaking in tongues. If it's a gift you desire, then ask the Holy Spirit for that gift. Always covet discerning of spirits. A very useful gift.

    1 Corinthians 14: 1, 2, 4

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh Not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

GOOGLE the gifts so you'll know what each one of them is for.

The Holy Spirit is your Teacher. Always ask Him to help you understand what you are reading. You now have the Mind of Christ. He will instruct you through the Holy Spirits ministry to believers. Be still & quiet till he replies. You're going to fall deeply in love with the Spirit of Jesus.

    Hi Rich,

My pastor said that the most important thing to bear in mind is that scripture interprets scripture and that the context is important too. He said that the scripture's that I showed him are often misunderstood, and don't mean what I think they mean. He said that salvation cannot be lost, just like God's promises cannot be broken. I think the fact that I have not been baptised yet and that I am the only Christian in my family is also adding to my uncertainty. It says in

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

I think the fact that nobody from my church believes that that the spiritual gifts like speaking in tongues are for all Christians, and that those gifts were only for Jesus disciples. The church that I went to previously had a number of people that speak in tongues, so because I disagree with that, I just feel unsure if he is wrong about these scriptures too.

Also, I am sure that I have read that we can no longer sin once we have been saved, yet I have used curse words a few times and taken the name of the Lord are God in vain since becoming a Christian mostly in my head, but also out loud on a few occasions.
  • Adam - In Reply on Revelation 12 - 4 years ago
    Hi Claire,

I think the reason some say baptism is encouraged, but not 'required' is verses like John 3:16.

However, in my opinion, that's only part of the picture; there's so many other verses to consider like Acts 2:38.

You already read the scriptures, you already want to do it, and you absolutely should. So, please do it, despite the pastors opinion. Since churches that normally would do this probably do this on a limited basis during the virus, if you don't want to wait any longer, all you need is another person, such as a pastor or minister, to baptize you. You could get permission to be baptized with a church's facilities on another day, or you could do it in a lake, pool, or hot-tub or any number of places that are just as valid. The key is that you know what it symbolizes and its helpful to read the scriptures beforehand so you know exactly what it means.

May God bless you and congratulations on your decision!

Why don't we take a break, studying and expound on the BOOK OF JOEL ?8

It's one you have to read slow with the Commentary. Bible verses related to Dreams And Visions:

    .......................................................

Joel 2:28 - And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Acts 2:17 - And it shall come to pass IN THE LAST DAYS, SAITH GOD, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

    ..........................................................

Numbers 12:6 - And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

Proverbs 29:18 - Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Daniel 1:17 - As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his SECRET unto his SERVANTS the prophets.

1 John 4:1 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

    ...........................................

    >> Top 2 verses say almost the same thing except in Acts it says Thus saith GOD. So if a prophet speaks Thus Saith The Lord; that had better of been from God and not the pizza you ate at 3am. God speaks to us by the Holy Spirit (which is the Spirit of Jesus).

He speaks and then we repeat; word for word. Write it down and date it.

I've found that the Book of Daniel goes forward and skips backward again. We have to hear the Holy Spirit teach that Book.
