The promise of the Holy Ghost is now fulfilled. Right from the Day of Pentecost, it is being showered on us today. We must "repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

Baptism is "for the remission of sins" Acts 2:38
  • Arley3 on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Romans 7:23 tells us about the law of sin. Romans 10:9-13 tells us how to be delivered (saved) from this law of sin. When you heart desires sin but your mind tells you sin is wrong, call on the name of Jesus. Ask for the experience of Acts 2. This is the deliverance. Acts 2:16

Jesus said"I am the way, truth and light, no man come unto the father except through Him. John 14:6. Not saved threw baptism, but it is a command of God. Matt. 3:15, 28:19, John 3:26. Baptism is like a wedding rings, you put the rings on to show you belong to someone, baptism is showing you belongs to that Church, belief in The Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, you belong to The family of God

The disciples of Christ were well familiar with baptism. They had a 12 to 1 ratio over John the Baptist in John 4:1, 2. So they followed Jesus Christ instructions. Full of the Holy Ghost they knew the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost was one Lord with one name, " Jesus Christ !" The only method of baptism by the church in the bible. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind for salvation.

"..The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thy foes thy footstool." "But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." The Spirit in the Saint; Jesus standing at God's right hand!

Calling upon the name of the of the Lord is definitely a part of our salvation further study and prayer is necessary for a more complete understanding of what is required. Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. Titus 3;5 He saved us by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost the same Acts 2:4 Holy Ghost.Jesus loves us all don't reject His promise

  • Cristina Scheeler on Acts 2 - 8 years ago
When Peter said, Repent, be baptized, then the gift of the Holy Spirit will come. What he is saying is, Repent, stop turn around from your sin, turn to Jesus. At that point, you are saved. Then be baptized, as an act of confession to the Church, on what you did. Baptizing has nothing to do with salvation. And at the point of repenting, is when the Holy Spirit comes into your heart.
  • Redeemed on Isaiah 9 - 8 years ago
9:6 is the best verse to describe the singular name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost in Matthew 28:19 which leads us to Acts 2:38, Acts 8:12, Acts 10:47-48, Acts 19:1-5. Jesus is the Father of creation the Son of Redemption and the Holy Ghost of regeneration the one Lord of Deut 6:4 that Saul thought he was doing service to but said who art thou Lord, I am Jesus, Saul knew as a Jew there was only1

Amen to Acts 16;30-31 also please pay attention to everything Jesus and his Apostles taught on believing EX: Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved v17 signs that follow believers speaking with new tongues as mentioned in Acts 2:4 they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spake in other tongues that were new to them. Believers should receive the Holy Ghost John 7:39

Acts 2:38, "And Peter said to them, 'Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
The reason they were baptizing "in the name of Jesus" is not because it was a formula, but because the phrase, "in the name of" means "in the authority of.

Jenny; Acts is amazing. One reads of the very beginning of Jesus' church here, ch. 2. To actually read of this beginning of 2,000 yrs, ago - and it's TRUTH, not 'conjecture', Jn. 17:17 - " ... thy Word is truth." Peter opened this truth to all peoples when he used the 'keys' Jesus gave him in Acts 2:38. Key 1, Repent; key 2, be baptized; key 3, in the name of Jesus Christ ..... "; H.G. was free.
  • Landon Lavigne on Revelation 4 - 8 years ago
Jesus loves us all and died for us and rose from the dead. He is almighty God robed in flesh. I obeyed Acts 2:38 and received the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of Speaking in Tongues like on the day Of Pentecost.
  • Irene123 - 8 years ago
RachelPerez - I can't imagine why satan would attack you for simply believing that Jesus is the son. Everyone, almost, believes that, but that belief alone doesn't save us. It's when we get close to 'seeing' what salvation is all about that satan attacks. He wants no one saved. I believed in Acts 2:38 for 47 yrs., smoked, drank alcohol, but I wasn't saved. Not until I repented, did Acts 2:38.
  • Irene123 on Deuteronomy 11 - 8 years ago
Obedience to God's Word. It's so very simple. Nothing to 'think' about. The Word of God is so very plain. Acts 2:37 - 38. " ..... what shall we do?" Then Peter's answer. Jesus said, in Matt. 6:33, preparing people for the day of Pentecost in Acts Ch. 2 - "Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God (salvation), and all these things shall be added unto you." the things of this life , food, raiment, shelter.

There is no greater love than this 'laying down of our life' for our friends and family. Because then, and only then, as we are truly walking with Him in His (not our) truth, will He hear our prayers for them, Jn. 9:31 " ..... but him that doeth the WILL OF GOD". When we follow Acts 2:38 - we are doing the will of God - Peter said so, and Jesus (God) gave him the 'keys' to open the way.
  • Irene123 on John 15 - 8 years ago
    V. 13 - " ... that a man (woman) lay down his life for his friends". To 'lay down' our life is to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the gift (Free) of the Holy Ghost, Acts 2:38. This is the only way our life for ourselves can be seen to be dead to our friends. Because the H. G. will effect a VISIBLE change they can see of new life.
  • Irene123 on Isaiah 45 - 8 years ago
satan didn't 'send' anything to earth, much less tares. The tares are sinners who follow satan in their evil, sinful ways. They REJECT Jesus after having been told of Him and His plan of salvation - Acts 2:38. Just like everyone in Genesis who rejected God through Noah's preaching. Jesus tells us PLAINLY what the tares are. Read your Bible with prayer to Jesus to open your eyes.
  • Irene123 - 8 years ago
cont. - Death came, as God told Adam it would, when the Word of God was violated." This is the very pre-plan God has reproduced for us - only in this age of Grace. I just realized this comparison as I read the foregoing part from the book, "Bible Doctrines - foundation of the church". Death comes to us as we violate the Word of God by not turning to Him in repentance - Acts 2:38.

LU2677 - In my post 3 mos. ago - I DID say God and Jesus are ONE and the same. Your problem is with Acts 2:38 vs. Matt. 28:19. There is no 'versus'; the 2 scriptures agree with one another; just as Peter in Acts 2:38 agreed with Jesus in Matt. 28:19. Peter preached exactly what Jesus said: " ... baptizing them in the NAME ... "

Jesus loves us! Just got through watching the Columbine shooting of the most precious true Christian little girl. She lived Jesus and touched millions of Souls for Jesus! " I will not be ashamed " was the Title of the movie! I then looked up today's bible verse and it started with " I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ!! Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:38, Acts 19:1-6, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 5:32, 1 Corinthians 14:2,22,39 John 21:15 Jesus loves y'all ! The Landon Lavigne Family

Hello Irene123, you are correct on one of your favorite verse of the Bible Acts 2:38. Notice the Scriptures in Acts 2:38, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." It said the Holy Ghost which is also the Holy Spirit of God the same Spirit of God and same function.
  • Irene123 on John 8 - 8 years ago
Levell - Lk. 23:47 - even the centurion, who helped crucify Jesus, said, " ... certainly this was a righteous man." Jesus' words, that he did nothing of Himself referred to His flesh man; but as His Father taught Him, He (Jesus) did those things. It's the same with us; when we have God's spirit in us ( Acts 2:38) it's HIS spirit that does the works, speaks the words of wisdom from His word.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 3 - 8 years ago
Christine - God bless you for your questions. He knew before you asked them - that you wanted to know these things. But the answers to THESE won't save you. Salvation is the most important 'question - Acts 2:37, " men and brethren, what shall we do?" then Peter answered them in the next verse .....; in the name of Jesus Christ, just as in Matt.28:19, ".....Baptizing them in the NAME of .....
