Christ is the rock of faith and salvation, Peter is the rock on which the Church was started as instructed by Christ, with Christ as the cornerstone. Peter you are rock (Kepha - in aramaic) and on this rock (Kepha) I will build my church. Christ took Peter and the deciples to Cesaria Philipi (a rock) to give an backdrop of what he was doing. People do not understand the meaning here. Christ changed simons name to Peter for a reason.

If Acts 2:38 means be baptised in order to get your sins remitted, does "Christ died for our sins" in ( 1 Cor 15:3) mean Christ died in order to get our sins? When you get arrested FOR stealing, does that mean that you got arrested because you stole,(the answer is yes) or in order to get stealing? When you get baptised you get baptised because you are saved. Otherwise an unborn child, which is what you become when you get saved (Jn1:12, Gal 3:26) is obeying commands. Baptism is a command and you can't obey a command unless you are born of God. Poeople get baptised but unless your already SAVED, you are just getting wet. Amen.

Its the only plan of salvation. Its all truth. I was born and raised catholic. Realized that it was nothing but lies. I asked God to direct me to the real church as I didn't have time to visit them all. he sent me an apostolic preacher. Since then I have studied the bible over and have not found a flaw in the apostolic doctrine.I have dedicated my life to passing out the plan of salvation to anyone I meet.If you don't have bible for what you belive your spinning your wheeles and you are gona get left behind. How can you overlook baptism ? don't you want your sins washed away. There is only one way to have your sins remitted. BAPTISM.In JESUS name Wake up my bro. and sisters. we are in the very last days. Ask your pastor his plan of salvation / you may be surprised at his answer. The sinners prayer don't cut it/ Just believing don't cut it/joining church don't cut it/caling him Jehovah don't cut it/ ACTS 2:38 IS THE ONLY ANSWER. praise JESUS

Here are the keys Peter was given: ( Acts 14:27) "they rshearsed all that God had done with them, and how He had OPENED THE DOOR of faith unto the Gentiles.( 1 Cor 16:9) For a great DOOR and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. ( 2 Cor 2:12) Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a DOOR was opened unto me of the Lord. ( Col 4:3) Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a DOOR of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds. The keys were given to Peter for a chance to preach. Look at the verses. God gives us keys to DOORs or opportunities to preach or tell someone about Christ. We don't need keys to heaven, "we got's the door" ( John 10:7)! Amen.

To whom it may concern,I'm sorry that you are missing the only saving message in the word of God but if you do not obey what Jesus himself spoke to Peter and told him he was giving him the keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatsoever he bind on earth may be bound in heaven and whatsoever he loose on earth will be loosed in heaven Matt 16:18-19 if someone give me a key to open any door for safety I'm not the one to stand and debate about what I think, I will make sure to at least try it for sure and if it don't work then I will have to seek futher (but) your heart has to be sincere to get in with God. JESUS is the Name above every name under heaven Phil 2:10, how could anyone go wrong by giving it a try for themselves before being critical or speaking mean toward each other about the word of God. Read these scripture's with an open mind Acts 10;44-48, Acts 19:2-9 there is lots more but enough for now. I pray in the name of Jesus that he gives anyone and everyone the understanding that read these scriptures.

The phrase “for the remission of sins” translates the Greek 'eis aphesin ton hamartion'. The preposition eis points to a goal that is as yet unreached. Never, in any reputable translation, is this expression rendered “because of the remission of sins.”

Compare, for instance, the use of the phrase in Matthew 26:28. In that text, Jesus declared: “For this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for [eis] the remission of sins.”

Now here is an appropriate question: Does it matter whether or not one believes that the Lord shed his blood “to obtain” remission of sins, or if he died “because of” pardon already effected? Is what one believes regarding the efficacious nature of Christ’s death important?

How can one possibly hold the viewpoint that opposite constructions are equally valid? Such is a wholly illogical position. How can one conscientiously ignore inspired grammatical forms that were designed to convey precise religious ideas?

Unfortunately, this is the extreme to which some appear to be driven in their irresponsible attempts to extend Christian fellowship across the borders of modern denominationalism.

Underline the phrase “for the remission of sins” in Acts 2:38, and in your margin make this notation: See Matthew 26:28 — same purpose phrase

1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit (The Holy Spirit) are we all baptized into one Body (Body of Christ)..... The one Baptizing is [The Holy Spirit] The one Baptized [The Believer] What is he baptized into [The Body of Christ]
"For the remission of sins" means [because of the remission of sins] When you take medicine (for) a headache, is it in order (to get) a headache? Water Baptism necessary? Yes! In obedience to Christ {BECAUSE WE ARE SAVED} NOT TO BE Saved. What can wash away my sin??? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! Romans 10:9-13 2Cor 13:14 The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

On verse 38 make sure you know that any church that builds it's theology on this verse is on "sinking sand" ( Matt 7:26). Acts 2:38 is spoken to a bunch of Jews by a Jew(Simon Peter) and he is Cephas ( Jn 1:42) a "stone" and not the Rock Jesus Christ. Christ is the Rock to which Matt 16:18 refers to according to the Bible. Check the Scriptures ( Ps 62:2,1 Cor 10:4, 2 Sam 22:2, etc.)If you build your chruch on Peter, you have the wrong rock. (Deu 32:31) "For their rock is not as our Rock," Please read the Bible and check the verses. Good day.

Acts2:38 is part of what the church is built upon. In Matt.16:18-Jesus told Peter upon him He was going to build His church. Eph2:20-tells us that the church is built upon the foundation of the prophets and apostles. So whatever the apostles wrote in the Bible Jesus is backing it up, because He's the chief corner stone. I was born again by reading and believing Acts2:38. I repented, got baptized:fully immerged in the water in Jesus' name, not the titles Father, Son, and HolyGhost, and I sought the Lord for the HolyGhost and one night He gave it to me with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gave me the utterance. The HolyGhost is the Spirit of Christ and without it we are none of His Rom.8:9.

Concerning tongues. They are for a sign. Look at verse 22. ( 1 Cor 1:22) Says that the Jews! require a sign. Now go back and read Acts chapters 2,10,19 and see that Jews were present everytime tongues are spoken. Tongues are languages unknown to the speaker but known to the hearer in order for God to get His message across. Check this verse ( Acts 2:8) And how hear we every man in our own TONGUE, wherein we were born? Now look up at verse 6. ",because that every man heard them speak in his own language." According to the Bible this is Biblical tongues, not jibber jabber. Check out the Hindu's for further insight into this movement. Good day.

Matthew 28:19 Jesus was no glorify yet at this time. For that reason His Name was not to be proclaimed yet.
Peter and the others did not understand the meaning of the power of His Name until they received Power when they received the Holy Ghost. Acts 1:5,7,8. Then; it was for them to proclaim His Name unto the world. Acts 2:38
  • Thy word is truth on Acts 2 - 11 years ago
Acts 2:38 has been used by the Devil to send millions to hell. Notice who is being spoken to in this chapter vs 5 "Jews", verse 14 "men of Judea," vs 22 "men of Israel," vs 36 " the house of Israel,". These are Jews who require a sign ( 1 Cor 1:22) and tongues are for a sign ( 1 Cor 14:22) to sign seeking Jews ( Matt 12:39). You do not need tongues to be saved. Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles ( Rom 11:13,15:16, Acts 9:15). We listen to Paul who wrote by the Holy Spirit that salvation is by "grace through faith" ( Eph 2:8-9). Peter was speaking to Jews who require a sign and there were sign seeking Jews in Chapters ( 2, 10, 19). The Gentiles are saved by believing the Gospel found in ( 1 Cor 15:1-4). Hope this will help but I doubt it. ( 1 Cor 14:38)!!!!!
  • Graham on John 3 - 11 years ago
verse 16 is one of the most misunderstood verses in Christianity today. We need to go back to verse 5 and remember that Jesus clearly told Nicodemus that he must be born of the water and spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven. In chapter 4 Jesus hints of the coming holy spirit while talking to the Samaritan woman. Other chapters in John also talk of the coming holy spirit which would arrive after Jesus was glorified. I don't believe we are saved by just believing because Jesus told Nicodemus that you must be born of the water and spirit. We find the arrival of the Holy Spirit in chapter 2 of Acts. The first message of salvation of the church age is Acts 2:38 repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I believe John 3:16 is referring to a trust and belief in Jesus which leads to obedience of faith and not a salvation of just simply believing in Jesus.

In perfect harmony as one in Jesus we all would be able to relate to what our past follower's experience back then if we continue whole-hearted to this scripture but we are the solution and to the problem

Praise the Lord everyone, I thank God for the True Apostolic doctrine and for receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost with the Evidence of Speaking in Tongues which still happens today. God pricked my Heart and I felt the Power that came with a mortal body shaking{quickening}by the Holy Ghost. Obeying Repentance from ALL Sin and Wrong Doing, and to be Baptized in the Father(JESUS),the son(JESUS),and the Holy Ghost(JESUS) Simplified = JESUS Name the ONLY Saving Name and DOING the first two, ANYONE can then Receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost Which Is the only way anyone can live righteously enough to receive ETERNAL LIFE, Praise the Lord

This scripture is the core chapter, pretty much, of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. An amazing experience they had and that we still have today. I got the holy ghost when I was 4 years old. I've been in church all my life and I've had Acts 2:38 down and memorized. That verse changed my life. Knowing that people in the bible could be filled with God's spirit is something so supernatural to me. And also knowing that it can still happen to people today. Anybody! I love being Apostolic Pentecostal because it has changed my life. I don't know how I could live without this chapter and my church family. The Holy Ghost is the best thing that has ever happened to me and each time I get it I never feel better! Thank you Jesus! :)

Wearing of clothes does not commend us to God. The Holy Spirit is given when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and then we are baptized by fire in the Holy Spirit. John baptized with water, but Jesus told John ye will be baptized with fire. Have faith in God, for we are saved by grace, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, not of works less any one should boast.

I have a question, my soon to be twelve year old daughter who has been blessed by the gift of speaking in tounges went to church Friday night and spoke in tounges she was so excited ! The next day she was getting ready for her dad to pick her up and put on a pair of jeans . When she walked into the living room , her grandfather saw her and said, You won't have the holy ghost no more if you wear jeans! Is this true?
