These men were giving time for the others to share the word of God and finally, they came together to greet and encourage all, each other which caused the continuance of the good and true news of Jesus Christ our savior, which before Jesus ascended to his Father, he commanded to the apostles to spread the salvation plan( Acts 2:38) to all that would hear. and there were those filled with the power of the Holy Ghost in the upper room, with the evidence of speaking in another tongue and to preach this to all and not stop spreading the good news, even to this day. Amen.

In reponse to Ms.Jackson's question; What is tounges? In short it is God's way of letting us know that we have been filled with his spirit, u say well; I recieved the Holy Ghost when I believed. Well not so.. Remember in Ac19 Paul asked the diciples of John if they had recieved the Holy Ghost? They said we have not even heard of the HG. Then what happened? They rec the HG and spoke in tounges,AC2 and the HG fell and they spoke in tounges, Act10 Cornelieus and his family rec the HG and spoke with tounges, U see, God never meant for us to have a salvation we had to guess about. He took the most unruly member of the body and used it to let us know that hey! God dwells in this vessel! Paul stated that I speak in tounges more than all of u, and forbid not to speak in tounges. Jesus commanded us to be born of water and spirit jn 3:3/3:5 Spirit bap is one of these ingrediants. So I'll ask have u recieved the HG since u beleived?

Yes, Kebede it is the only truth, it is the only way, In fact we r admonished that whatsoever we do that all be done in the name Jesus. We r also told that neither is their salvation in any other name! What ch#8 proves is that over and over again in the book of Acts, it was never done any other way. ck out ac 10,19,anywhere where baptisim was done, it was only done one way. It is a fullfillment of Mt 28:19 not a contradiction.

The word of God came wrapped in flesh and laid in a manger. The world had no place for Him then and no place for Him now;but, thanks be to God He resides in men's hearts through the power of the Holy Ghost. Obey Acts 2:37,38.

Oh, Praise God! How majestic to think that the God of Glory would come to earth in form of man. His own arm brought salvation according to Acts 2:37,38.
  • James on Acts 2 - 12 years ago
Here we go again. some people can't crearly understand the bible, its plain to see. Baptizing is for the washing away of your sins, not the forgiveness of sins.Repentence is the aking of forgiveness of your sins. You need to study acts 2;38 more mr @ carlton le grand. you can argue with the word, but it,s allready written, and forever settled in heaven. Your opinion want change one sentence to make you right.
  • James on Acts 2 - 12 years ago
baptizing is not for forgiveness of sins, if you coould understand correctly, repentence is asking for forgiveness of sins. batizing is for the washing away of sin. It is plainly written in acts 2;38. The man who was given the keys to the kingdom told us exactly how to be saved in this very verse. seriously had hard can that be to understand? people don't want to line up with the word of God, so they look for easier ways to get to heaven. Sorry only one way will work. His name is JESUS. @ carlton le grand, talking to you and anybody else who wants to change the word of God to satisfy their selves.

The way of Salvaion and to escape the destruction of this world system is found in Acts 2:37,38. The message delivered on the day of Pentecost is still the way in 2012. Have you obeyed? If not make haste. Don't let the doctrines of man deceive you; for there is no other name given than that of Jesus Christ. The Name whereby you must be saved not father, son, and HOLY GHOST. Jesus is the family name. He came in His Father's Name which is the excellent Name He received by inheritance. All honor to His Name.

I frequently wonder, especially when confronted by "fundamentalist" (i.e., conservative) commentators who explicitly endorse capitalism as a God-given good, why I have never heard any of them respond to the obvious celebration of what can only be called "socialism" in verses 44-45. The KJV translation is very nearly paraphrased by Karl Marx's "from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs," although subsequent translations have softened this a little. I'm certainly not a fan of communism (especially how it has played out in real life), but this passage would certainly seem to mute the endorsement of free-market capitalism as the economic translation of Christianity.

Sounds like those Apostolics are carring the day on this one. I say amen! To the one who attends a trinitarian church. just ask God to reveal himself to u. jUST ASK him about the bap in Jesus Name, Just pray about these scripture settings and the new birth of water and spirit.
  • Ann johnson on Revelation 16 - 13 years ago
Do not be seduced by this modern day father, son,Holy Ghost doctrine by water baptism. To be saved, you must follow the instructions given when the Church was set up on the Day of Pentecost. Peter had the keys and he used them in Acts 2:37,38. Repent, be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ,EVERYONE of YOU and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost...which has the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. Praise God for his wonderful plan of salvation. No where in the Bible is anyone ever baptized in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. THE NAME IS JESUS. Obey.

What i get out of it is the more you seek the wisdom of God, the more knowledge he allow's you to recieve. And this fact is for anyone who think's that the world is billion's of year's old,it's not!If you read the word of God(Bible)He (GOD) say's that the world is about six thousand year's old. Were coming upon the seventh, according to the word of God.Another thing is,Jesus is God( Isaiah 9:6), Deuteronomy 6:4, John 10:30, 1 Timothy 3:16, Ephesians 4:4-6,ect. it states in the Bible about 2,800 times that there is only ONE God!Jesus is the saviour and there is only one( Isaiah 43:11),and again in Luke 1:47...God my saviour..It seem's pretty straight forward to me,"My sheep hear my voice",are you hearing the word of God? Don't let man's interpetation miss lead you"sheep in wolves clothing",this once saved, alway's saved stuff.Even Paul said"I die daily",so what do you think he's talking about?Do youself a favor, and repent,be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sin's( Acts 2:38,39)that's the"KEYS" to heaven,Jesus gave them to Peter and taght him how to start the"church".Any other way is a thief and a robber, only the straight and the narrow way lead's to salvation. All the baptizum's in the Bible( Acts 8,10,12,18,22...)are in the NAME of The Lord Jesus Christ, not in the title's father, son, and the Holy Ghost.Stop and pray...in the name of Jesus to lead you down the right path!Has anyone ever prayed father, son, and Holy Spirit for a healing and recieved one? There is NO power in the title's!All you do,in word and or deed, do in the NAME of Jesus Christ, that's what God's word instruct's us to do!Do you speak in toung's?Jesus' mother did,and so did the first 120 that gladly recieved the Holy Spirit,in the upper room where Jesus told them to wait for the promise of the Father,Who showed up?Jesus did!!!Not the first part of a three-som,or the second,or the third,it was ALL JESUS and even Thomas said after he doughted,"My Lord and My God!There wasn't 2 Spirit's standing there!Just Jesus, and if you don't believe this salvation message, then you will die in your sin's,according to the "WORD of GOD",you have 2 ear's to hear with,listen...God is calling you.............................

Verbatim response to Mike's comment on 9/12/2011, 10:13am... ("how can a criminal steal and GOD almighty will sacrifice is only son for the criminal.)

Although the criminal knows death is the punishment, he doesnot want to die. God the just merciful, loving and just judge knows, and out of his love for the criminal, he sacrifices his son, to save the criminal's life provided the criminal belives in God' son, hence John 3:17. GOD'S LOVE IS NO WHERE ALLUDED TO THAN IN John 3:16 .

Once the criminal finds the deal too good to resist, HE HAS NO TIME TO UNDERSTAND, BUT TAKES THE DEAL STARIGHT AWAY, BEFORE THE CRAZE JUDGE CHANGES HIS MIND, AND GETS ANOTHER CHANCE TO LIVE. Mike if you were the criminal would you drop such a deal questioning God's ways and wisdom? By the way have you embraced God's love through Christ?

    HOW DOES IT WORK?

The criminal simply believes in the son of God as the propitiation for his crime- 1 John 2:2, confess the crime (or loads the crime on Christ to pay the penality), repents (deliberate decision not to commit the crime again) and gets baptised (symbol of renewal unto salvation Mark 16:16) and receives the Spirit of God ( Acts 2:38) to enable him to steal no more, and live an abundant life. The criminal is obliged to find the book ( bible) about the God of love and his son the epitome of the same, and reads it daily to develop the relationship with that God through his son.

The criminal finds a congregation (Church) of forgiven criminals ( saved, born again or believers) and fellowships, as he reaches out to others to embrace the pardon and live again.

Mike it is not easy to understand (as the song goes, " it wasnot easy, but was worthwhile) once you are not the criminal whose life lies at the noose of the hungman's mercy after the "verdit by the gavel" went, "guilty condemend to crucify!!!!!!!", otherwise, to a criminal the deal is too good to querry God's wisdom.

Another part of the question another time once by the grace of God. We love you Mike and pray for you. (SELW)
  • Kostas on Acts 2:38 - 13 years ago
Only those translations that are saying "remission" of sins are correct to the original Greek which is the word "Aphesis". Remission & forgiveness are not the same. But above all, The Name Of The Lord JESUS Christ must be spoken, & both the baptizer & the one receiving the baptism must be qualified for it. The one must be an apostolic minister or anyone who has already been baptized in the Name of the Lord, & the one who goes through the baptism, to be taught prior to it, the importance & the revelation of the Name, & have full faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Below is a good article:

    THE BIG
    MISTAKE
This message is no doubt one of the most important messages you will ever read. It concerns a
commandment that was given by our Lord Jesus Christ, which is being carried out incorrectly by
nearly every church that is professing Christianity. This statement is true, even though the
command is plain and easy to understand. I am referring to the clear teaching of water baptism.
The various religions of this world baptize people with water 635 different ways. In the realm of
nominal Christianity, people are baptized primarily one way; this way omits the use of any name
at all. Thus, Satan with his crafty devices has seen to it that almost everyone who has been
    baptized has been baptized wrong!
In the denominations of nominal Christianity, the Scripture verse of Matthew 28:19 is misused in
a very clever way. Matthew 28:19 reads as follows: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” We must bear
in mind that when this command was given, no actual baptism was happening at the time. A
command was given, and God intended that it be carried out, not just repeated. Countless
thousands of ministers repeat the exact words of the command without ever doing what the
command says to do. Jesus specifically ordered that we are to be baptized in the NAME
(singular) of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost! In order to find out what that name
is, we simply look in the Bible at incidents of water baptism after Calvary as administered by the
apostles of Jesus Christ. We will find that there is not one incident ever where anyone was
actually baptized using the words, “Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” It was always done in the
saving name of Jesus, which fulfills the command to use the singular name. When we say the
words, “I baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,” we are in full obedience of Matthew
28:19. Jesus said, “I am come in my Father’s name….” ( John 5:43). The angel of the Lord said
to Joseph regarding Mary, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins” ( Matthew 1:21). In John 16:7, Jesus said He would
send the Holy Ghost. It all happens in the name of Jesus!
We will now look at actual events of baptism to see exactly how it was done by the Apostles of
Jesus Christ. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, we will begin with chapter 2 where many
people who were listening to Peter were convicted of their sins and were looking for the remedy
to the problem. In Acts 2:37-39 we read as follows: “Now when they heard this, they were
pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the Apostles, Men and brethren,
what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as
the Lord our God shall call.” As we can see, the titles Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not even
alluded to by Peter as he answered their question, because the Apostles understood full-well that
Jesus commanded his saving name to be used to fulfill Matthew 28:19. Were the Apostles
correct in this matter? In Acts 2:41 we read the following: “Then they that gladly received his
word were baptized and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
Another example of an actual baptism is found in Acts 8:14-16 as follows: “Now when the
apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent
unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might
receive the Holy Ghost: (for as yet he was fallen on none of them: only they were baptized in the
    name of the Lord Jesus.)
Yet another example showing how the singular name of the Lord Jesus Christ was being used in
water baptism is found in Acts 10:47-48, which tells us, “Can any man forbid water, that these
should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded
them to be baptized in the name of the Lord….” In this example, we must also note that water
baptism was not simply suggested, but it was commanded! This is consistent with the very words
of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, when he commanded in Mark 16:15-16, “….Go ye into all
the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
One question that frequently arises regarding water baptism is whether or not a person should be
rebaptized if they had not previously been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. In Acts 19:3-5
that question is answered, and the matter is settled. The Apostle Paul met with some people who
had been disciples of John the Baptist and were baptized by him. We know that when John
baptized, no name was used, but it was simply done unto repentance, opening the way for people
to receive Jesus, the Lamb of God. After Jesus shed his blood on the cross, the saving name was
required in baptism. Even those who had received the valid baptism of John needed to be
rebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. That is why we read of this in Acts 19:3-5 as follows:
“And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that
they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they
heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
At this point I must also point out that the word baptize, comes from a Greek word that means to
make fully whelmed, which means to put completely under the water. It was the Roman Catholic
religion that started baptizing by sprinkling and pouring during the time of the building of St.
Peter’s Basilica. Because they charged money for baptizing, they began to baptize infants,
    because they needed the money.
We must also remember that the Bible tells us that we are not to be baptized into a church, but
rather into Christ! Romans 6:3-4 tells us in no uncertain terms the following: “Know ye not, that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are
buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the
glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
When we consider the subject of water baptism, it is essential that we remember that it is in the
Gospel! In I Corinthians 15:1-4, the Gospel is clearly defined as the death, burial, and
resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Thus, our repentance is the death of our old sinful self; baptism
with water in the name of our Saviour, Jesus, is our burial; and receiving the Holy Ghost is our
first resurrection unto a new life. The resurrection of all people at Judgment Day is the final
resurrection from the earthly graves. We cannot ignore any part of the Gospel, or we have
    ignored the whole Gospel.
So much more could be said about this subject, and we can learn so much by reading our Bibles
rather than reading catechisms and other church books, which contain doctrines of men. The
points we must remember are: 1. Baptism is commanded. 2. Baptism must be by immersion. 3.
Baptism must be done using the name of Jesus. 4. Baptism must be done once the Gospel is
understood. Babies are not to be baptized.
It is a sad fact that nearly everyone that has been baptized in these last days has accomplished
nothing more than getting wet. It is a problem that can be easily corrected. Acts 4:12 will meet
all of humanity on Judgment Day, and it should be heeded now, while there is still a little time.
That powerful verse still echoes down the corridor of time with these words, “Neither is there
salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we
    must be saved.”

@ Cariton Le Grand:The topic/controversy discussed is water literally in the brook or in a river. Water baptism is for the remission or forgiveness of sin is not the writings of the Apostles. No verses in the bible to support these declaration. About the five verses you have shared even one verse did not declared water baptism is for the forgiveness of sin. The verses was not talking about water baptism is for the forgiveness of sins. In John 3:5, you cannot read the word baptism, but the word used is born again. For you the word baptism is synonymous to born again in meaning. Also, where is your verse that the Apostles are doing/performing the baptism of Spirit. Literally there are verses to read for the forgiveness of sins is our true faith to our Lord Jesus Christ. supporting verses Mat. 9:2 & Acts 10:43. While baptism of water is for the forgiveness of sins is no verses in the bible to support these arguments.

WILLIE GRANT'S PRAY AND ASK GOD WHERE TO GO AND HOW SHALL YOU HANDLE THIS MATTER, BECAUSE WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS STAY IN THE WILL OF GOD, AND IF THE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO HERE ABOUT THIS GOSPEL YOU MUST MOVE ON BEFORE YOU BE WON WITH THEIR DOCUMENTATION BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PLAN OF SALVATION FROM GOD HIMSELF. WHICH WE KNOW THE DEATH, BURIEL AND THE RESURRECTION IS REPENTANCE, BAPTISM IN JESUS NAME AND RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST WITH EVIVDENCE OF SPEAKING WITH OTHER TONGUES AS THE SPIRIT GIVES THE UTTERANCE. ACTS 2:38-40, ACTS 19: 1-6

When a person who has faith in God's word and trully understand the meaning of Baptism thru obedience to his word, and accept the process of salvation in his life, says in v-21 (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) God is happy to see the heart of man/woman with a good conscience toward God. Baptism in Jesus name( Acts 2:38)is our submission to the will of God,Holy Spirit baptism( Acts 2:1-4)is the confirmation that God accepted our submission & as children of God, heirs to his kingdom. See Romans 8:9,14-17, Ephesians 1:13 ( 1 Pet 3:21).

Did you know that: Born again( John 3:1-7)is the only way to enter into the Kingdom of God,Jesus requires born in water and born in spirit( John 3:5)born in water means baptism, baptism in Jesus name, born in spirit means Holy Spirit baptism.two baptism needed in order to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 28:19 was the instruction given by Jesus... Acts 2:38 was the commission in action by the diciples He chose!!
  • Nathan on Acts 10 - 13 years ago
I think the point is being missed here. The glory of this chapter is the fact this is where the Gentiles (everyone not a Jew) received the baptism of the Holy Ghost ( Acts 2:1-4). So, how did they know that the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Gentiles? Notice verse 46 "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God."
There was physical evidence that the Spirit of the Almight God had baptized the house of Cornelius! But don't forget that the Holy Ghost is just one part... the following verses tells us the rest... "Then answered Peter,47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." According to Acts 2:38.

  • Truly forgiven on Acts 2 - 13 years ago
Its funny to me how the trinity people believe baptism is works. He was talking to a church of baptised holy ghost filled people. They will jump from this book to that book and miss it. Thats why the bible says having a form of godliness but denying the power within. No man can come unto jesus unless the spirit draws him. Jesus gives the revelation not there trinity preacher. Its sad theyll never know the touch of the holy ghost. I asked one guy tell me the name of the Holy ghost he said holy ghost. If they dont get the revelation of jesus of baptism wow im just thankful he showed me. Judgement day will seperate I believe in the one true god Jesus
